Law Sacking Unmarried Pregnant Policewomen Expunged – AIG

An Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Aishatu Abubakar-Baju, says police laws and regulations mandating the dismissal of unmarried policewomen who get pregnant whilst in active service have been expunged.

Abubakar-Baju, who is the most senior female police officer in Nigeria, stated this as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show on Wednesday.

She said laws discriminating against women in the Nigeria Police Force have been deleted for inclusion.

When reminded of the case of Omolola Olajide, an unmarried police corporal in Ekiti State who was dismissed in 2021 for being pregnant, the AIG said unmarried policewomen are no longer dismissed for getting pregnant in active service.

“That Section 127 and any section of the Police Act and regulation that has gender discrimination have been expunged, looking at the Police Act of 2020 and the police reform that is currently going on”, she said.

“The IGP (Inspector General of Police) has just last year launched the Nigeria Police Gender Policy just to make sure that there is complete eradication of any form of gender discrimination.

” I can tell you that the Nigeria Police has come of age, and the IG is intentional about inclusivity and making sure that the Nigeria Police is an equal opportunity institution, “she added.

Asked to respond specifically as to whether the police no longer kick out unmarried female police officers who get pregnant, the AIG said”, Yes. “

Olajide’s dismissal in 2021 sparked outrage with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) approaching a Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the legality of Section 127 of the police regulations.

The court dismissed the suit for lacking merit, ruling that such officers were aware of the regulation before their admission into the Force.

Dangote Refinery Reportedly Boosts Crude Imports Amid Naira-For-Crude Deal With NNPCL

The Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company is reportedly importing crude oil from international suppliers as it gradually increases production at its facility.

This is in the face of ongoing fresh negotiations of the naira-for-crude agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The first deal ends on March 31, 2025.

Bloomberg reported that the 650, 000 barrels per day refinery has recently sourced crude from the United States, Angola, and Algeria, among others.

Since the beginning of the month, the Dangote refinery has reportedly received over three million barrels of American crude, in addition to shipments from Angola and Algeria.

According to analysts at Energy Aspects Ltd., crude deliveries to the Dangote refinery have averaged 450, 000 barrels per day in the past two weeks, up from an estimated 380, 000 barrels per day in January and February.

“Our satellite monitoring shows a recent draw in crude stocks at the refinery, indicating runs are likely on the rise”, said Randy Hurburun, a senior refinery analyst at the consultancy.

Once fully operational, Dangote Refinery is expected to process 650, 000 barrels of oil per day, making it Africa’s largest refinery and surpassing any single refinery in Europe.

The facility, which is expected to reach full capacity by H1 2025, has already reduced Nigeria’s crude oil surplus and cut down the country’s reliance on fuel imports.

Tanker-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg revealed that despite ramping up overseas purchases, the Dangote refinery remains heavily dependent on Nigerian crude. Last month alone, it took in over ten million barrels of local feedstock.

The NNPCL said it has supplied 48 million barrels since signing the crude supply agreement with Dangote in October.

Industry experts suggest that price competitiveness will continue to determine the refinery’s crude sourcing strategy.

“WTI will continue to be an attractive grade for the refinery because of its light-sweet nature and price competitiveness with local West African grades”, said Ronan Hodgson, an analyst at FGE.

“The Atlantic basin has many viable alternatives, but it all depends on the economics and terms on which they get it”, he said.

Porter says no foul play in Dupont injury incident

Getty Images
Ireland prop Andrew Porter has dismissed claims that he was involved in foul play that led to Antoine Dupont’s serious knee injury in France’s Six Nations win in Dublin on Saturday.

France coach Fabien Galthie described the actions of Tadhg Beirne and Porter in the incident which led to Dupont’s season-ending injury as “reprehensible” although they both avoided any sanction during the game.

Galthie reported the Ireland duo to the match’s citing commissioner but no action has been taken against them.

Dupont was attempting to steal the ball in the 28th minute and was challenged by Beirne, who then fell on to the scrum-half’s right leg as Irish prop Porter joined the ruck.

Porter insisted that he hadn’t committed any foul play, adding that he had sent a well-wishing message on Instagram to the France captain.

“He]Galthie] can say what he wants, see how far it gets him”, said Porter.

“I knew what I did. I didn’t go out to try to injure anyone. That’s not the type of player I am”.

Porter added that the France head coach “calling for your head…… it’s a bit much”.

“He’s such a pivotal player for them that they nearly don’t want him to be touched at all.

” He]Galthie] is entitled to his opinion but I know I haven’t done anything wrong there. I sleep well at night. “

The Ireland prop attempted to draw parallels with the career-ending injury suffered by Ireland back row Dan Leavy in 2019.

Like Leavy, Dupont’s knee was caught among collapsing bodies during a Leinster game against Ulster but Porter insisted that nobody was to blame.

” It]Saturday’s incident] was a rugby incident. I can barely remember exactly what it is. I think it was in a ruck, his leg got trapped in between a ruck, when he was trying to counter it and he obviously just got trapped and went over.. but that’s rugby, that happens.

“I don’t think anyone was calling for anyone to cite when Dan Leavy did his knee a few years ago, which resulted in him having to finish his career early”.

‘ We can’t sit around and sulk ‘

Porter added that Ireland, following the hammering by France, are now determined to perform as they know they can in their concluding Six Nations game against Italy.

The championship is now out of Ireland’s hands as they must beat Italy in Rome and hope that the results of the games which follow on Saturday go their way to clinch a record third successive Six Nations title.

Second-placed England are away to Wales while leaders France have their destiny in their own hands as they face Scotland in Paris in the final match of this year’s tournament.

“We can sit around and sulk all we like but we have another job to do next Saturday. If anything it has emboldened us to go out and put out the rugby we know we can play”, he said.

‘He’s so much fun to watch’ – the rise of Kinghorn

Guinness Six Nations 2025: France v Scotland

When: Saturday, 15 March 2025 Kick-off: 20: 00 GMT Where: Stade de France, Paris

Having been part of the Toulouse side that swept all before them last season, Blair Kinghorn is now tasked with trying to halt his superstar club-mates in France colours from completing their charge to the Six Nations title.

Scotland head for Paris and their final match of the tournament hoping to derail what looks like an unstoppable French juggernaut fresh from a clinical dismantling of a previously unbeaten Ireland side.

Kinghorn won a Champions Cup and Top 14 double with Toulouse last season, a far cry from his days as one of the shining lights in a consistently under-performing Edinburgh side.

He has taken his game to another level and Scotland are now reaping the benefit.

Aside from a poor showing against Ireland – along with the rest of the Scotland team – Kinghorn has enjoyed an excellent Six Nations.

The statistics show him at the top of the charts for carries, metres carried, metres gained and offloads as well as second for line-breaks.

From makeshift 10 to star full-back

Kinghorn has always been a player blessed with incredible natural attributes and an outstanding skillset.

That all-round talent means he has been deployed in various positions along the back-line for Scotland.

Indeed, he has scored two Six Nations hat-tricks against Italy – one from the wing (in 2019), and one from fly-half (in 2023).

That decision to convert Kinghorn into a number 10 for Edinburgh and Scotland – dubbed ‘ the Blair-Switch Project ‘ – stemmed from a desire to find a suitable alternative to Finn Russell for the national team.

His adaptability meant he offered plenty in that role, but Kinghorn comes alive in the open field that only comes while playing in the back three, and it is in the more familiar role of full-back he is now thriving.

BBC Sport

“I do think having an appreciation for how difficult it is for a 10 helps you in your position as a 15”, said Scotland’s record points-scorer Chris Paterson, who at times in his own career flitted between fly-half and full-back.

“If you’ve played 10, you know what you’re looking for. Then if you drop to 15, by definition, you kind of know what the opposition 10 is looking for.

” So it allows you to be in position quicker, because you can almost read the play.

“The skillsets are quite similar as well. You spend a bit of time in the backfield as a 10, you’ll spend a bit of time kicking as a 15.

” It also helps you take pressure off the 10 you’re playing alongside, because it’s a vulnerable position and it’s an exposed position. Almost every decision feels as if it has to go through the 10.

“His physical attributes – his speed, his size, his height, his ability to dominate space in the air, to catch a ball above his head – and his skillset – his distribution, his timing on to the ball, his kicking – is excellent.

‘ They love Kinghorn in France ‘

Kinghorn’s understanding of where and when to arrive into the attacking line was evident in some of the stunning tries constructed against England and Wales.

A show reel of Kinghorn’s X-factor moments would be a long one, and since his move to link up with the galacticos of Toulouse, there is now a maturity to his game to complement the fireworks.

” Blair Kinghorn is so much fun to watch, “said Johnnie Beattie, the former Scotland number eight who now lives and works in France covering the Top 14.

” He’s class and a good character as well, which us Scots love, but they love him here in France too.

“Starting on the wing or at full-back for Toulouse, he’s been phenomenal. With the power he plays behind, the creativity, the opportunities and space he’s given on the ball, he’s been exceptional.

” He’s a wonderful athlete. This is the longest run of games we’ve seen him start for Scotland at full-back, and he’s been excellent.

Pakistan forces continue operation to free hundreds from hijacked train

Pakistani security forces said they have rescued 155 passengers from a train hijacked by separatist forces, as operations to free hundreds more continue.

The military launched a major operation on Wednesday against the separatists from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) that seized the train the previous day. About 300 hostages remain on board, officials said.

The train, which was carrying about 450 passengers, including army personnel, was attacked as it travelled through the remote southwest region of Balochistan, for which the BLA seeks independence from Islamabad.

Security forces were acting with caution, with captives surrounded by BLA fighters wearing explosive vests. At least 27 of the rebels have been killed, officials added.

The number of casualties among soldiers, passengers and rebel fighters remains unclear.

The BLA has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was open to negotiations to swap prisoners. It also threatened on Tuesday to start executing hostages unless Baloch political prisoners, activists and missing persons it said had been abducted by the military were not released within 48 hours.

So far, there has been no response from the government to the offer or the threat.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have strongly denounced the attack. Government spokesman Shahid Rind described it as “an act of terrorism”.

Balochistan’s contested terrain

BLA fighters blew up the railway track and opened fire on the train in the remote Sibi district as it travelled from Quetta, Balochistan’s capital city, to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Oil and mineral-rich Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest and least populated province. It is a hub for the country’s ethnic Baloch minority, whose members say they face discrimination from the central government.

The BLA claim that the region’s natural resources are being exploited by outsiders and have increased attacks targeting Pakistanis, as well as from other regions.

Violence has surged along the region’s western border with Afghanistan since the Taliban reclaimed power in 2021.

The BLA has carried out deadly attacks on trains and buses. In November, a separatist group carried out a suicide bombing at a train station in Quetta that killed 26 people.

In February, BLA fighters killed seven Punjabi travellers after they were ordered off a bus.

Chinese-backed infrastructure and citizens around the Arabian Sea have also been targeted.

Bill said: “I love that video, I watched that. I kept going, ‘ That’s the silliest thing. How did I miss that when it came out in the first place? ‘ It’s so crazy, and I’m going, ‘ Who is the girl with the red hair? ‘ And it was Kelis, so I just had to meet her sometime. With an almost 30-year age gap, Kelis and Bill, 72, have been hitting the headlines as fans speculate over their rumoured relationship.

Because damn! What he doing with all that”? brazenly asked one fan in the comments section. Kelis replied to the fan, although the response might not have been what they expected.

“Lol no babe, I wouldn’t bother at all”, Kelis replied in regards to the first part of the comment about her caring to address the allegations. Despite Kelis ‘ blunt response, fans wouldn’t drop it, with one asking: “Should I believe the Bill Murray rumour”? And another pressing: “Are you dating Bill Murray or not”?
