Assault: Ogun Govt Suspends Traditional Ruler For Six Months

Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale, the traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, has been suspended for six months by the Ogun State government for his alleged crude behavior that included an assault on an elderly man.

A senior man was given the instruction to kneel down in a video that went viral. However, it’s not clear what the man might be doing.

The state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy said the decision was made after Ganiyu Hazmat, the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, invited the traditional ruler and the victim for questioning in a statement released on Monday.

According to the Commissioner, the state government and the Egba Traditional Council operated in accordance with Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021, Section 52 (1).

He claimed that this is to address the traditional ruler’s careless words and acts of public depravity, which are being documented on social media and in other public spaces.

In the meantime, Lanre Ogunlowo, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, has launched a thorough and understated investigation into the matter as it has promised to follow strict rules of law and fundamental human rights.

The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital.

A disturbing video featuring an elderly man, Mr. Areola Abraham, was seen prostrating while being verbally abused and assaulted by Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, was circulating on social media, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

Both parties contacted the Eleweran State Criminal Investigation Department with reports, and they obtained their statements.

Regardless of the target’s identities, The Command categorically condemned all forms of assault, harassment, and violence.
