Arsenal thump Atletico in Champions League, PSG and Barcelona in routs too

Atletico Madrid defeated Arsenal 4-0 in the Champions League match after a devastating second-half broadside at the Emirates Stadium.

With goals from Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli, and a brace from Viktor Gyokeres, Diego Simeone’s side were left shocked in the wake of what had been a compelling battle that had lasted for a while.

In the 57th minute, Gabriel broke the deadlock by heading in a Declan Rice free kick just before Julian Alvarez hit the crossbar.

Seven minutes later, Gyokeres scored his first goal of the night from a deflection as Arsenal ran riot, putting an end to a nine-game scoring drought for the club and nation.

Gyokeres then bundled in his second goal as Atletico was once more unable to handle a set piece.

Arsenal now has nine points in the group phase, which means they are well on their way to a knockout status. Victory extended their unbeaten streak to nine games.
