Army Initiates Conflict Resolution Talks Between Tiv, Fulani In Taraba

The Tiv and Fulani speaking tribes of the Bali local government area of Taraba State have a dialogue being held by the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army.

The meeting aims to resolve the lingering conflict between the Tiv tribe’s farming communities and the herders.

The engagement is a continuation of its non-kinetic efforts to promote stability and peace in Taraba State, address persistent communal tensions, and foster trust between residents.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sect 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), directed the engagement to take place in the Brigade Conference Room in Jalingo.

Brigadier General Uwa emphasized the crucial role of dialogue in resolving disputes and urged all parties to embrace tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. He also cautioned community leaders against starting up a conflict and said that maintaining peace is a shared responsibility.

He further reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting civil servants through non-violent means, arguing that community participation and ownership of the peace process are the only prerequisites for lasting peace.

Political figures, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other important Tiv and Fulani tribes participants were present at the meeting.

The dialogue provided a forum for discussion about the Bali LGA’s ongoing security issues, which were to be addressed in a practical and long-term manner.

Dauda Aboki, the executive chairman of the Bali Local Government Area, praised Brigadier General Uwa for his decisive leadership and reaffirmed the willingness of the local government and community leaders to collaborate closely with security forces to bring about peace in the area.

The signing of a peace pact by all participants was the engagement’s highlight.

Important resolutions were included in the agreement, including commitment to resolve disputes peacefully and legally, respect for the rule of law, and promotion of community cohesion.
