The beloved grandmother of the Wicked star’s beloved grandmother has passed away, according to pop icon Ariana Grande and her family. Marjorie Grande passed away at the age of 99, known affectionately as “Nonna” to Ariana and her brother Frankie.
Ariana, 31, posted a statement from her mother, Joan Grande, announcing Marjorie’s passing on her Instagram Stories this evening.
The statement signed by Ariana and her family read, “We are devastated to learn that the dear matriarch of our family has passed away.”
“Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed away peacefully in her home, where her family and close friends stayed every second.” As we grieve and celebrate her beautiful, extraordinary life, we thank you for your love, support, and respect for our privacy.
Ariana frequently shared photos of her dear grandmother on social media, and she even took her to see her film Wicked in November. The Thank U, Next star received a nod for best female actor in a supporting role at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards after answering a question about her grandmother on the red carpet.
The celebrated pop singer and actress was questioned about the first person she phoned after learning about her nomination during the star-studded event in January. Joan Grande, Arianna’s mother, was the first to learn of her.
Ariana’s refusal to call her grandmother, Nonna, first glared at the interviewer. When questioned about her grandmother’s continued presence with us, Ariana said, “Yes, my Nonna. She’s 99]years old].
