After suffering from side effects that caused vomiting, Amy Schumer has revealed that she quickly stopped using Ozempic to lose weight.
The 43-year-old comedian and actress has admitted to using the medication to aid in her weight loss, which is specifically designed to treat type 2 diabetes. Ozempic contains semaglutide, which mimics the hormone responsible for appetite regulation and feeling fullness. It is not intended to be taken for weight loss.
But Amy – and a string of other Hollywood stars – have used the drug for its inadvertent weight-loss properties. The Trainwreck actress, however, has revealed that because of her genetics, she was left shaking, shrivelling, and vomiting when she took the drug.
The actress claimed that because the drug allegedly reacts to a gene linked to morning sickness, she was left feeling like she was having effects similar to those experienced during her early pregnancy. The mum-of-one, who shares five-year-old son Gene with her husband Chris Fischer, 44, has also said the weight loss she did witness was wasted on the fact she was too ill to go anywhere.
Sharing her experience on The Howard Stern Show, Amy revealed: “I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy. So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy.
” But other people take it and they’re all good. God bless them. The Kinda Pregnant actress continued to make fun of the drug’s potential effects while reiterating that she was so overcome with emotion that she could hardly function.
She said:” You’re like, ‘ Wait a minute. Can we slow down? ‘ The side effects are you have a better personality. I tried it and I was vomiting and I’m in bed and my son’s like, ‘ Can you play tag? ‘ I’m like, ‘ I can’t. ‘ I was shriveling. “
She did confirm, however, she” lost 30 pounds so quick “and” looked great “- but added:” I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow, so what’s the point?
