Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, says he wants Kobbie Maino to stay at the club, but he doesn’t offer any guarantees that will happen.

The England midfielder, 19, was linked with Chelsea earlier this week amid a continuing stand-off over his proposed contract extension.

Officials at United claim that since January 1, they have been concentrating on ensuring Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo’s futures. They have been able to speak with foreign clubs without charge.

That pair have now agreed extensions but Mainoo remains on his existing contract, which still has two-and-a-half years run.

Given that the teenager has a stronger position as an international and regular starter under Amorim and, before that, Erik ten Hag, sources close to him believe they are in a strong position to agree a sizable increase.

However, United acknowledges that the situation is “tight” in terms of profit and sustainability and that selling local players gives them more room to sign players in accordance with the Premier League’s financial rules, which the Old Trafford outfit is committed to.

Before Sunday’s FA Cup visit to Arsenal, Amorim stated, “Our goal is always to keep the best players and the players we build for this club.”

If Mainoo is sold, United are aware of the likely negative effects that a fan will have, and it is likely that he will stay at the club for the rest of the season.

“I really love my players”, added Amorim. “I want to keep them, especially the talented ones.

“I’m having a difficult time, but I’m really happy with Kobbie.” He is improving. “

United have been linked with a number of players during the current transfer window, including Paris St-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes, 22.

Amorim has already stated that he must sell before acting on Friday, and he has already given more details.

” I don’t remember to say clearly that I want new players, “he said.

What I said was that sometimes the players who came here with a different perspective on how to play this]3-4-3 system are different.
