Alexander-Arnold not to blame for goals conceded – Slot
Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool, claims that he recognizes patterns in the goals conceded by his team, but that right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold does not.
Following the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, Alexander-Arnold received a lot of negative feedback.
Amad Diallo converted a cross from the right to give United their first goal, while Lisandro Martinez put an attack down Liverpool’s right to give United their second.
According to football statisticians Opta, Liverpool’s opponents are having 44% of their touches in the left third in the attacking areas – this would be Liverpool’s right-hand side – which is the highest ratio in the Premier League.
The percentage of opposition chances from Liverpool’s right is 35.7% while it is 38.1% from the middle third and 26.2% from the Reds ‘ left.
“I do notice a pattern in the goals we concede, but I don’t notice if it’s about Trent.” Not at all”, said Slot.
“Trent has had one difficult game for us]in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield] and maybe a few that were OK to good. Mainly, he has had great games when he played for us this season”.
Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, came on as a substitute after an hour in the first leg of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final at Tottenham.
In a game that the Reds lost 1-0, the England international had a shot that was cleared off the line.
“I’m aware that there is a lot of attention on him right now, but I want to point out how well he performed when he came on against Tottenham on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup” and how our fans have responded to him. That made that game more enjoyable for me.
On Saturday (12:15 GMT), Liverpool take on Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup. Slot is expected to rotate his squad, but he is aware that his team must be prepared for the challenge of facing the League Two side.
Every team that plays against us is a special occasion, especially for a team in the lower league, according to the Dutchman.
They have been anticipating this game for a while, and they will be up for it.
Everyone is completely hyped up and ready for a Champions League final, which is “the Champions League final,” so we need to be aware of that.
