Lorenzo Musetti retired from his fourth set of the French Open semi-final with a broken foot. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz now advances to his second successive final.

When Italy’s Musetti, who wanted to reach his first major final, was forced to end the match early, Alcaraz, Spain’s second seed, led 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 2-0.

At the conclusion of the third set, Musetti, the eighth seed, had received treatment for a thigh issue.

“It’s never fair,” he said. Alcaraz remarked, “I want to win, but not like this.”

In two tight sets, the pair showed why they were the top clay-court players on the ATP Tour this year.

However, 22-year-old Alcaraz unleashed his devastating attacking shots to take control of the match once he levelled.
