Rhodri Jones, the managing director of RL Commercial, is “quietly confident” that the Magic Weekend will play in Newcastle next season.
In the two days that St James’ Park hosted all six Super League round 10 games, more than 64, 000 tickets were sold.
After moving Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium last year, the event made its eighth appearance there.
They were disappointed that they didn’t come back last year, but now they’re delighted that they’re here, Jones said, adding that they want them to do the same.
We are in close communication with Newcastle United Football Club, and there will be some time where we will have to wait for a few things to arrive. However, we are quietly confident that we will be back here next year.
Jones claimed that this year’s event had attracted record attendance on Sunday and attracted its highest crowds since Covid.
He also estimated that there was a “growth opportunity” for the sport when 8 to 10 000 of the tickets sold went to addresses in the Newcastle postcode area.
