Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty is set to marry glamorous influencer Holly Ramsay in just weeks, but a recent family fallout has reportedly seen his heartbroken mum banned from the wedding
From waking up at 4am every day before a full day’s work to get her son to training, to forgoing family holidays to help him achieve his dreams when money was tight, Adam Peaty’s mum has always been his biggest cheerleader. But now she’s been told she might never see her grandchildren again, as a bitter feud has seemingly torn two families apart.
The Olympian, who once spoke proudly of his humble working-class roots, is just weeks away from marrying Holly Ramsay, a glamorous influencer and daughter of an internationally famous TV chef worth £152million. Their childhoods were world’s apart, and sources close to his mum have claimed Adam’s decision to shun his family appears to relate to his idea of chasing fame.
The family fall-out has spilled onto social media this week, with Adam’s aunt publicly confronting Adam’s fiancé Holly over her apparent decision to not invite his mother to her swanky hen do at Soho Farmhouse. Holly’s mum was in attendance, and her dad Gordon Ramsay was also invited to Adam’s stag do, but Caroline, 59, was nowhere to be seen, reportedly left at home looking after her grandson George, Adam’s son from a previous relationship.

An an insider told the Daily Mail that Adam’s mum believes the six-time Olympian believes his working-class family are “not good enough” to match the Ramsay family. It’s even claimed that Caroline wasn’t invited to Holly’s hen as she “might have stuck out a bit”. The pre-wedding event was a star studded affair, with Victoria Beckham even joining in on the lavish celebrations.
Further upset reportedly came when Caroline bought a dress for the wedding, excited to see his son marry his “soul mate”, only to be told by the couple that they didn’t approve. Adam and Holly apparently offered to buy her an alternative.
It’s also claimed that millionaire Adam paid for his parents to visit Bath for a shopping trip, which unfortunately couldn’t go ahead due to the horror train stabbings in Huntingdon two weeks ago. A source claimed that, rather than rearrange the trip, “Adam went mad,” declaring that they’d “wasted his money” and he “wouldn’t be able to get a refund”.
Now, after a painful row over the upcoming nuptials, Adam is said to have banned his mum from the wedding altogether and has allegedly hinted that he wants to be estranged. And Caroline has made her heartbreak clear with desperately sad Instagram posts in recent days.
The gran-of-seven shared an image of a sad quote which reads: “Crying is a way your eyes speak when your mouth can’t explain how broken your heart is”. The post has sparked debate in the comments, with trolls seeming to attack Caroline over the details of the feud.
In response, she hit out at one commenter, saying: “You know nothing about me or my family and your comment is not appreciated. As for your comment saying I don’t want my ‘son to grow up’ is a laugh, I’m happy when my children are happy as any mother is, there was no one happier than me, when my son told me he had met his soul mate x I hope that this clarifies the situation x”.
Caroline’s sister Louise also rushed to defend the devastated mum in the comments, even claiming that Adam had called her a “cr*p mum”. She claimed in one comment: “No she was not invited to the hen night. She was never given an explanation as to why she wasn’t invited. The only good thing she got out of such a blow was the time she spent with her grandson.
“What was so incredibly cruel was that it was whilst she was returning him back to the care of his mother that she was contacted by Adam and told she was no longer welcome at the wedding. She had to keep the pain hurt and betrayal in because no way she was letting her grandson see how upset she was. Talk about sticking the knife in and twisting it.”
Elsewhere on the post, she added: “My heart breaks for Caroline. She loves her children so much and this has broken her. She does not deserve this at all. I could not stand by and let Adam and Holly do that to my sister. Do you know he called her a crap mother? After all the sacrifices she made to ensure he suceeded.” While the post itself is still up, Caroline now appears to have disabled the comments.
Adam’s aunt also claimed in another comment that Holly and Adam banned Caroline from the wedding because she did not apologise for failing to attend a recent family trip to Bath due to cancelled trains. The Olympic swimmer has also allegedly barred his mum from seeing her grandson, George.
This isn’t the first time Louise has rushed to social media to defend her sister on this matter. After Caroline didn’t make Holly’s hen-do, Louise spoke of how she’d been left “heartbroken” over what she deemed “divisive and hurtful” actions on Holly’s part. Louise also alleged that Adam had said “the most vile things a son can say to his mother”.
Now rumoured to be worth between £1million and £4million, Adam has spoken proudly in the past about the lengths his nursery manager mum went to in order for him to succeed. “My mum worked on the other side of Stoke, I trained in Derby. That is a big journey,” Adam previously told the Guardian.
“I would get up at 4am, my mum would drive me to the pool for 4.40am in Derby. She would wait for me for two hours, drive back, have some breakfast, then she would be in the house for 50 minutes, then work all day 8am to 5pm, God knows. Then come back to Derby, wait another two hours, collect me. She wouldn’t get home until 8pm or 10pm.”
But the tight family purse strings always chafed. “You do feel on the back foot if you don’t come from a rich family or a family who are already involved in sport… You’re starting off at a massive disadvantage against those kinds of people,” he once said.
“As an amateur you’re up against people with money who can afford physio or therapists, and these kids turn up with all the kit. Not everyone is equal. But if anything, it made me more determined to make the most of what I did have and give 110 percent in training.”
And taking an apparent swipe at his humble roots, he told of how he’d rage that others had more than him. He told the Guardian: “That relationship with suffering has driven me since I was a kid. I am working class – but millions of people in this country are also working class. “They live paycheck to paycheck and can’t have luxury things. I was in a larger family with two brothers and one sister, so you had to fight for what you had and because I was the youngest I always had hand-me-downs.
“But that gives you an appreciation for the things you do have. I now really respect everything I have earned, such as my house. I’ve got a roof over my head, I can feed my family and enjoy the luxuries if I need them. Now, becoming a dad, I want to be the best role model possible to George to show him that if you want something, you get it by working hard. Don’t become lazy and ever think anything will be handed to you.
“That’s my upbringing in a nutshell. I don’t want to sound too harsh on my parents because they did so much for me, and gave me so much, but there were also so many kids that had so much more and that’s spurred me on.”
A lack of cash certainly wasn’t a problem chez Ramsay, where Gordon and wife Tana raised their six-strong brood in the lap of luxury. They grew up alongside the Beckhams, splitting their time between a £6.9million mansion in Bel Air, a £7million Victorian pile in London, and a £7.5million beachfront property in an exclusive enclave of Cornwall.
Son Jack, 25, received a £10,000 Rolex from his dad on his 18th birthday, and he told Channel 4 documentary Born Famous that he wouldn’t know what to do without the trappings of wealth.
He said: “I have grown up in a bubble. I’ve never had to fight or do anything for myself. I don’t know what I’m like without everything I’ve got.” Holly joined her dad at Elton John’s exclusive Oscars viewing party in 2017 and is a regular at VIP Formula 1 events.
They grew up with a nanny in the form of Gordon’s sister Yvonne, who moved in with the eldest children were young, along with her then 10-year-old daughter, Sophie.
Speaking about the husband and wife-to-be, a source told the Daily Mail they believe that Adam has ‘changed’ after getting a taste for the finer things in life. “She’s from a celebrity world and his parents are not, and his ego and self-importance has just got bigger,” they said.
It’s believed that Adam’s sister Bethany will now be the only family member from his side to watch him tie the knot, as many of those invited were reportedly unable to afford the price of accommodation and travel. One relative said: “We were sent a ‘save the date,’ and it’s all these country houses. I’m on Universal Credit — I can’t afford that.”
