Adam Peaty’s dad, Mark, has spoken for the first time following the news of an almighty row between the family as he addressed the swimmer’s brother being arrested
Adam Peaty’s dad has spoken out after the swimmer’s brother was arrested. James Peaty was arrested on Tuesday over allegations that he sent threats to the Olympian following the fallout over Holly Ramsay’s hen party.
Team GB star Adam, 30, was met by police officers when he returned to Manchester Airport following his stag do in Budapest. Adam is said to have allegedly received threats from his brother, sparking concern from his fiancée, Holly Ramsay, who alerted police.
It comes amidst a family fallout ahead of Adam and Holly’s wedding next month, which has seen his family excluded from the guest list. James, Adam’s older brother, had previously been asked to be a groomsman, but their relationship fell apart again in June this year.
Members of Adam’s family – including aunt Louise and his mum Caroline – have spoken out on social media about being ‘snubbed’ from Holly’s Cotswolds hen do that was attended by Victoria Beckham.
Now, Caroline’s husband Mark has spoken out after his son’s arrest.
Speaking to The Sun, Mark said: “They’re brothers, they’ve always been close, but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand, there’s been very little empathy towards Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.”
James was arrested at his home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, on Tuesday but was subsequently bailed. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on November 11, 2025, on suspicion of harassment. The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.”
Sources have claimed that Adam’s mother, Caroline, has been enabling James’ alleged behaviour and said it was “ridiculous” that police met the former Strictly Come Dancing star at the airport. They added that James had no intentions of harming his younger brother.
Over the years, the two siblings have had a strained relationship since Adam’s 2021 autobiography. He was said to have been “upset” after the sportsman documented James’ struggles with his “demons”, including drug usage and portrayed him as a “bum”.
However, they rebuilt their bond and in June this year, James was working on a building project for Adam – until their relationship soured again. Now, Adam’s sister is said to be the only relative invited to his wedding to Gordon Ramsay’s daughter.
Caroline, who spent years travelling to swimming competitions, was absent from Holly’s hen do at Soho Farmhouse. Guests included Tana Ramsay and Victoria Beckham. However, sources have claimed that Holly felt Caroline didn’t match the image she wanted for her event due to her working-class background.
A source told Daily Mail: “You only have to look at the picture to see that there is a certain ‘type’.” They added: “They all look the same, and you wonder if Caroline might have stuck out a bit. She’s a normal woman, not a celebrity. You look at Holly’s Instagram and it’s all so planned, so super-glam and very, very showy. That’s not Caroline.”
It’s claimed that Adam and Holly also informed Caroline that she would have to wear a different dress from the one she had previously chosen for the ceremony. This was something that didn’t sit right with Caroline’s sister, Louise, who accused her nephew and Holly of body-shaming Caroline.
