It’s now simpler than ever to avoid the sun damage that comes with real tanning thanks to the high-tech fake tan innovations that are available in stores.

The most recent innovation from St. Tropez, which dropped this month, has the potential to revolutionize how you self-tan your skin. The St. Tropez Sunlit Skin Self Tan Express retails for £29 full-price on Cult Beauty and Boots, but Asos is currently selling it for £21.75 during a new-season beauty sale.

The “first-of-its-kind” facial tanner is intended to do more than just give you a glow. This sleeveless beauty claims to instantly impart a pearl-like sheen with an hour-long, luminous tan before turning into a long-lasting tan. Wear it on bare skin, over make-up, or wherever you like.

You can see where you’re applying it precisely because it’s tinted, which is ideal for tantouring (yes, that’s both contouring and tanning in one). For sculpted definition that lasts for days, simply brush it across your temples, cheekbones, and jawline. Your skin stays plump and radiant thanks to the quick-dry, no-rinse formula.

You can apply the product every three days to maintain your glow as an elevated substitute for bronzing drops. St Tropez suggests pairing it with the Tantouring Brush ($20), which is designed to give you a precise, sculpted finish for the ultimate application.

Zoe’s opinion of St. Tropez Sunlit Skin Bronzing Tint + Tan is shared.

Zoe Cripps shares her thoughts on the St. Tropez Sunlit Skin Bronzing Tint + Tan.

Pros

  • quick drying
  • developing quickly
  • A useful product application precision nozzle
  • A pleasant, non-biscuity scent
  • Good for skin that is sensitive
  • features beneficial skin care ingredients like hyaluronic acid

Cons

  • A high price tag for a bottle that is quite small
  • Although the brush is meant to be used to achieve the “best” results, the price does not include it.
  • You must be very quick to blend it because it has a runny texture that drys very quickly.
  • didn’t immediately give my dry skin an even, uniform color.
  • Since it is a light tan, medium skin tones may not experience as noticeable results.

St. Tropez’s new facial tanner had my high hopes, but honestly, it’s almost the dream product with a few minor flaws. Let’s get to the good stuff: it quickly dries, develops in 1-3 hours, and has a precise nozzle, which makes application much simpler (especially for something this liquidy). I had no irritation at all because the scent is so pleasant—none of the old-fashioned biscuity fake tan smell. Additionally, hyaluronic acid is a fantastic addition to skin care products.

The drawbacks are now. The bottle is fairly small for the price, and it seems a little cheeky that the brush, which is meant to be used separately for the best results, is available. You must work at lightning speed to blend it properly, especially since the immediate tint wasn’t on my dry skin because the formula is quite runny and dries quickly. Despite that, the tan looked much better once it started to develop. My tan did appear more even after I washed my face in the morning (I stayed on it overnight).

I like to use Elf’s Bronzing Drops, £12, as a moisturiser, because they have an extremely uniform, immediate tint. However, I like this because it’s a quick-developing tan. Next time, I’ll try adding a few drops of skin serum because I believe it will help my parched skin absorb the tint more evenly.

Final opinion? Be prepared for some trial and error if you have dry skin (or aren’t the quickest at blending) or have great features with this luxe product.
