Eddy Olafeso, a presiding member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s reconciliation committee, demands that the party speak with Peter Obi, the leader of the opposition political party, and other party leaders before forming a coalition that will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Before the party’s primary in 2022, Obi, who was an aspirant under the PDP, resigned and won the election, coming in third place behind eventual winner Tinubu, who received 8, 794, 726 votes, and PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar, who received 6, 984, 520 votes.

On Wednesday, Olafeso asked on the Politics Today program on Channel 9 if the crisis-hit PDP needed to court Obi to have a chance against the APC in 2027. “Not only Peter Obi, every person in this country that can actually garner one or two votes must be spoken with.”

In 2027, the PDP leader stressed the need for a strong alliance in opposition to the ruling party.

“You have people working together to win an election, not just in this place where there are alliances.”

No one party can defeat APC alone, so don’t let us fool ourselves; it happened in Ghana not quite a long ago, and that’s exactly what we all should do at this time. We must all come together to fight, “Olafeso added.

He attributed the party’s decline in the 2023 election to the PDP leadership, which contributed to its demise.

Olafeso expressed regret over the inability of the PDP leadership to keep its party together ahead of the 2023 election by not counting Atiku and Obi’s votes.

Since their disagreement following the party’s primary in 2022, Atiku and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have struggled to reconcile.
