2027: I’ll Support Fresh Southerner, Northerner Willing To Use Four Years – Okonkwo

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign spokesman Kenneth Okonkwo says he will support a new southerner or northerner who wants to run for office after a four-year single term.
In accordance with the unwritten rule of rotational presidency, he based his decision on fairness and equity for both the country’s northern and southern regions.
Everyone should unite, she said. It can be discussed in more detail. On the Sunday edition of Channels Television’s socio-political program Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, Okonkwo said, “Who is going to do four years is going to influence who I am going to support because I still believe in justice and equality.”
The lawyer, who left the Labour Party in February 2025, said he would be willing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led coalition to challenge Bola Tinubu, president in the upcoming election.
Recent developments have fueled discussions about forming a coalition, which were made even more powerful by Nasir El-Rufai’s transition from the APC to the SDP.

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, and other powerbrokers in the opposition have been seen with El-Rufai. Similar to El-Rufai, Okonkwo recently met with Atiku, who claimed that Nigeria needs to cooperate to defeat the APC.

In the upcoming election, Okonkwo called the APC government ineffective and called for the opposition to form a formidable front to defeat the incumbent.
He stated, “My game plan is straightforward. The opposition must all band together and act like one if they are serious about removing power from this weak government because that is what the APC did in 2013 and how they came to power in 2015.
I think coalition is possible. I stated as I left that I was open to discussions with any group to bolster the opposition so that we can remove this government. ”

‘Complex And Complicated’
The coalition could discuss the options for winning in the 2027 election, according to the lawyer, who described the 2027 election as complicated and complex.
Because of this gentleman’s agreement, which spans eight years in the South and eight years in the North, Okonkwo said, “2027 is one of the most complicated and complex times in Nigeria’s political history.”
It is now very difficult to change or predict what will happen when an incumbent is struggling and in the middle of his presidency.
Would you say you wanted to meet someone from the South? That would require him to serve an additional eight years, according to the North. Politicians are not very good at being trusted, and they will be scared.
Would you permit a corrupt government to continue just because you want to sacrifice Nigeria as a whole? Just because you want to finish eight years of an existing government?
When it has only been four years in the South, would you advise letting it go? You are deceiving us, according to the South. It is therefore a very complicated situation.
A free, fair primary, where every qualified candidate, whether South or North, would take part, would be the best thing to do. And whoever would emerge, whether from the South or the North, would consent to spend four years there.
It would have been divided between the North and South for four years if he [northerner] had completed it for four years before returning to the South.
If a Southerner wins, he will only spend four years completing the eight years. Then it will travel to the north for eight years, spending there.
