Seychelles will hold a rerun of the presidential election despite the electoral authority’s announcement that its two main contenders had received less than 50% of the votes.
The Associated Press reported that opposition candidate Patrick Herminie received 48.8% of the vote, compared to the official results from Sunday, where incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan received 46.4 percent.

The electoral body did not make an announcement regarding the anticipated rerun election.
Most people voted on Saturday despite Thursday when early voting first started.
Before losing power five years ago, the United Seychelles party, led by Herminie, ruled the nation. It , was the governing party from 1977 to 2020.
With his party, the Linyon Domokratik Seselwa, Ramkalawan is attempting to stop the United Seychelles from winning the presidency. The pair are campaigning for economic recovery, social development, and environmental sustainability.
However, Ramkalawan’s party has faced more opposition in the run-up to the election.
A week before the election, activists filed a constitutional lawsuit against the government to challenge a Qatari company’s decision to lease a large portion of Assomption Island for a luxury hotel development.
The lease also included reconstruction of an airstrip to make it easier to travel internationally.
However, it was widely criticized that the agreement favors foreign interests over Seychelles’ extended welfare and sovereignty.
A growing heroin crisis also raised questions for voters. An estimated 6, 000 people out of the country’s 12, 000 people take the drug, according to independent analysts.
The Seychelles, which covers 390,000 square kilometers (150, 580 square miles), is particularly vulnerable to climate change as sea levels rise.
In the coming years, South Asian beauty will be firmly established in the world’s market for natural products and holistic treatments.

South Asian beauty looks poised to be the next movement to permeate the global industry. While Korean beauty (K-beauty) has long-dominated social media feeds and beauty shelves — with consumers vying for ‘glass skin’ and brands like Beauty of Joseon, Innisfree and CosRX on every product round-up — the global eye is shifting to India.
Until recently, South Asian beauty was nowhere to be seen in chains like Space NK, Boots and Sephora. The call for major brands to expand their colour palettes for brown-skinned consumers was a hard-won nod of recognition, but South Asian beauty founders still struggled to claim space on retail shelves. But the tides may be turning.

South Asian beauty: what is it?
South Asian beauty is largely rooted in Ayurvedic rituals and traditions. Derived from ancient Indian practices of medicine, it prioritises natural ingredients and holistic long-term practices for healthy skin and hair.
Traditional South Asian practices like hair oiling and scalp massages and active Ayurvedic ingredients like centella (aka gotu kola) and liquorice root (yashtimadhu) define the movement.
South Asian beauty brands are popular, but why?
South Asian beauty companies respond to consumer demand for traditional, restorative products that promote long-term wellness. At a time when filler-induced fatigue and pricey pharma-first solutions are losing steam, Ayurvedic remedies prioritize herbal and non-toxic substances.

On TikTok #hairoiling yields over 100k results and recipes for turmeric face masks and videos about the importance of tongue scraping are gaining traction. The mammoth beauty company Puig adding Kama Ayurveda to its impressive portfolio alongside Charlotte Tilbury and Byredo also signalled a move to raise Ayurvedic beauty’s profile in the UK.
South Asian beauty appeals to consumers who prioritize founder-led businesses because some of the biggest burgeoning brands have a distinct story and philosophy.

How does K-Beauty compare to South Asian beauty?
Like K-Beauty, South Asian beauty prioritises holistic and long-term practices for healthy skin and hair with a ritualistic nature. Innovative product lines highlighting ancient ingredients unite both practices.
The clean, holistic beauty movement that K-beauty championed has opened up a window for South Asian brands to expand internationally, most notably in the UK.

Following a dramatic overtime victory over Austria, the women’s team from Great Britain held their resolve to clinch the European Flag Football Championships.
The GB men’s team had a successful weekend in Paris, placing fourth overall and posting their best result since taking home bronze in 2017.
In the semi-finals on Saturday, GB defeated hosts France 27-21 to give them a chance to reclaim the title they previously won in Ireland two years ago.
In the other semi, Austria are ranked fourth in the world, one place ahead of GB, after defeating 2023 runners-up Spain 42-25.
They are four-time European champions, and they took the lead early in the final, going 21-6 before Emily Kemp’s second touchdown cut the lead to 21-13 at half-time.
After Kate Bruinvels’ touchdown, Grace Conway found herself in the end zone thanks to a Marta Mathews interception for the first time.
Austria scored the final score of 27-27, but GB had the opportunity to claim the victory in extra time when Allen’s superb catch set up Kemp’s fourth touchdown pass.
Crucially, Conway added an extra point with the conversion, as Austria went for a two-point conversion before Mathews patted the pass down in the end zone, causing cheery scenes among the GB players and staff.
Allen remarked, “That was such a crazy game.” “Our offense had a slow start, but our defense came out strong and stopped it,” he said. I’m very proud of the team for working so hard on this.
Before falling short in the semi-finals and the bronze medal game on Saturday, GB were already confident of achieving their sixth-place finish in Ireland.
Italy (28-22), France (34-20), and the United Kingdom are both in the top 14 spot in the men’s rankings.
Italy won the competition for the first time by defeating Austria’s 2023 runners-up 27-19 in the final.
Ranking points were also available as teams prepared for flag football’s Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, and the semi-finalists in each event have all qualified for the next year’s World Championships in Germany.
Lauren Henry said she was “sad” to miss out on a first ever women’s single sculls gold for Great Britain after being edged out by Ireland’s Fiona Murtagh in a photo finish on the final day of the Rowing at the world championships Championships in Shanghai.
Britain won eight golds, four silvers, and one bronze medal, making it its eighth overall at the championships. This is the most of any competing nation.
Only the Netherlands won four gold medals overall, only the Netherlands.
While 30-year-old Murtagh had never previously won a major regatta, Henry, 23, had won a medal in every international race she entered this year.
However, Murtagh held on as Henry reeled her in in the final 500 meters before the Briton eventually lost by 0.03 seconds after opening a massive lead with a blistering start.
It’s disappointing, but Henry said, “I’m obviously really pleased I came away with a medal.”
It’s sad to miss out on less than a centimeter because I promised to come here for the gold.
Murtagh paid tribute to “phenominal athlete” Henry, describing her shock when her name appeared as the winner.
She told Rowing at the world championships: “I dug deep and crossed the line and we were right beside each other, I really didn’t know who’d won it until I looked at the screen and saw my name. I’ve never won a major regatta. This is huge and I’m in shock.”
The British team’s director of performance, Louise Kingsley, praised the championships as a successful “start to the LA cycle” because GB rowers want to compete in Los Angeles in 2028.
