Women’s Six Nations

Wales (7) 12

Tries: Scoble, Williams Con: Bevan

England (26) 67

England may have fielded a different team but the Red Roses still dominated as they ran in 11 tries against Wales in front of a record crowd of over 21, 000.

England head coach John Mitchell made 13 changes to his starting XV, including world player of the year Ellie Kildunne who celebrated her 50th cap with a hat-trick.

Wales got off to a dream start with Jenni Scoble crossing to light up the Principality Stadium.

But after the first 10 minutes England showed their class, scoring through every facet of play as they remain on course for a seventh consecutive Six Nations title and a fourth consecutive Grand Slam.

There were poignant tries for debutant Abi Burton, who fought back from an induced coma in 2022, and Wales-born Meg Jones, who was playing her first Red Roses game since her parents passed away.

England skipper Zoe Aldcroft and number eight Maddie Feaunati were the only players retained from the win over Italy last weekend, with Feaunati bagging two tries of her own.

The hosts had not tasted victory over England since 2015, but backed by the biggest ever crowd for a Wales women’s team event in Wales (21, 186), they got off to a bright start.

They asserted early pressure, going through the phases and stretching the defence. Carys Cox had a sniff of the tryline on her wing, but was well marshalled by Kildunne.

Wales kept asking questions but their attack was thwarted by a superb Sadia Kabeya turnover. It should have been an easy clearance for Zoe Harrison, but she knocked on behind her own line and gifted Wales a 5m scrum.

It proved costly as Georgia Evans picked up from the base and drove to within inches of the line, with Scoble quick to recycle and crash over.

True to form, England did not take long to respond. Abby Dow, returning after breaking her hand, put a kick through which put the covering Lisa Neumann under pressure. Feaunati took the line-out ball before handing off Abbie Fleming and charging to the line.

The second try fell to Cardiff-born Jones, who scooped up a loose ball in the midfield before beating three defenders on her way to score.

Sarah Bern was in shortly after, England had overthrown the line-out but managed to retain possession and nice hands from Feaunati put the prop in under the posts.

Lynn made half-time changes, bringing on Donna Rose and Kelsey Jones in the front row in a bid to compete more in the physical battle.

And the team talk looked to have inspired as Wales once again started the half brightly, but England gave a lesson on how to be clinical as the tries came raining down in Cardiff.

The pick was the first from Kildunne, who latched on to a looping ball out wide from Harrison to cross in the corner.

She was back in on the opposite corner five minutes later before dotting down for her hat-trick. She left the field to rapturous applause before being deservedly named player of the match.

A chance then fell to Wales who showed the fight and passion that Lynn had asked for all week. Despite being shoved off their own scrum, the ball came out to Cox who managed to offload to Kate Williams, crossing to give the home crowd something to cheer.

The final 10 minutes became the Abi show, with Dow and Burton both crossing for two tries apiece as Wales looked in danger of a record loss to their rivals.

Wales head coach Sean Lynn said: “We have to remember we’re playing against the best team in the world.

” We have to get better, every game we’ve got to be getting better. We’ve got France, Ireland and Italy left, and we’ve got to keep getting better and better. Simple.

“I was asking them ‘ how hard are they willing to fight for each other ‘ and they certainly showed they could today”.

England head coach John Mitchell said: “We didn’t start particularly well, but we grew into the second half and built some good pressure.

” I’m really glad the way we responded to what Wales did to us.

Wales: Joyce-Butchers, Neumann, H Jones (capt), Powell, Cox, George, Bevan, G Pyrs, Phillips, Scoble, Fleming, Crabb, Williams, Lewis, Evans.

Rapper Young Scooter has died

Rapper Young Scooter has died aged 39 with police confirming his death was caused by injuries he sustained fleeing officers. The Atlanta-born rapper, whose real name isorn Kenneth Edward Bailey, died after trying to flee from police on his birthday on Friday.

Atlanta Police have explained the incident unfolded in the southeast of the city when officers responded to a 911 call reporting “a dispute with shots fired, and a female being dragged back into the residence”.

Police arriving at the scene said a man opened the door on the cops, but abruptly closed it. Two men then attempted to escape from the premises, it is reported.

One of them, identified as Kenneth, sustained a severe leg injury while jumping over fences during the escape. Despite officers on hand giving aid and the rapper being transported to Grady Hospital, the musician was sadly pronounced dead.

Kenneth was born in Walterboro, South Carolina, and relocated to Atlanta at the age of nine. His pursuit of a rap career began in 2008 after he had facied a drug trafficking charge. He gained prominence in the Atlanta rap scene with his 2013 mixtape Street Lottery, featuring his hit single titled Colombia.

He had collaborated with a number of big artists throughout his career, including Future, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne and Migos.

The Atlanta Police Department has confirmed no officers discharged their weapons during the incident leading up to Kenneth’s death, and said his injury was self-inflicted during the escape. His exact cause of death remains under investigation.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes poured in online. Among those sending condolences was Waka Flocka Flame, who signed Kenneth to his Brick Squad Monopoly label in 2013.

He expressed his grief on social media, saying: “Street, you had me crying before my show… you the backbone… dama brada”.

Playboi Carti also paid homage to Kenneth, before fans said he was leaving a huge legacy behind. One user on Twitter/X wrote: “Seeing RIP Young Scooter don’t even feel right.”

US woman released by Taliban in Afghanistan: Former US envoy

An American woman has been freed by the Taliban in Afghanistan after she, two Britons and their Afghan translator were detained earlier this year, Washington’s former envoy to Kabul, Zalmay Khalilzad, has said.

She is the fourth US citizen released by the Taliban since January, as part of agreements brokered by Qatar.

“American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home”, Khalilzad, who has been part of a US delegation working on Taliban captive releases, wrote on X on Saturday.

Hall’s release comes just days after George Glezmann, an American detained in Afghanistan for more than two years, was released by the Taliban earlier this month, and arrived in the United States, where he reunited with his wife and was greeted by a welcoming party that included his former cellmate.

The Taliban called Glezmann’s release a “goodwill gesture” reflecting its willingness to engage with the United States “on the basis of mutual respect and interests”.

The Taliban has previously described the release of US detainees as part of its global “normalisation” effort.

The group remains an international pariah since its lightning takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021: No country has officially recognised the Taliban government, although several countries continue to operate diplomatic facilities in the country.

Afghanistan’s takeover came as the Joe Biden administration oversaw a withdrawal outlined by the first administration of US President Donald Trump.

The Republican leader negotiated with the Taliban in 2020 to end the war in Afghanistan, and he agreed to a 14-month deadline to withdraw US troops and allied forces.

The agreement was controversial for leaving out the Western-backed Afghan government, which was toppled amid the US’s chaotic exit from the country in 2021.

The Trump administration is yet to articulate a clear policy for how it will approach dealings with the Taliban government during the president’s second term.

Trump has been a regular critic&nbsp, of how the Biden administration oversaw the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Paul focused on boxing & unlikely to fight in MMA – PFL chief

Jake Paul seems unlikely to ever fight in MMA despite signing a contract with the PFL, according to the league’s Dan Hardy.

YouTuber turned boxer Paul, 28, signed a deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) in 2023 which gave him the option to fight in MMA as well as perform an “advisory” role for the MMA promotion.

Hardy, who oversees the PFL’s European events, was asked about the possibility of Paul transitioning in the near future.

“Do we ever see him in MMA? I don’t think so”, Hardy told MMA Fighting.

“He’s pretty focused on boxing.

” It’s a lot of work for him to cross over to mixed martial arts and he’s not going to fight anybody that you’ve never heard of before.

“It’s going to have to be a decent name or otherwise people won’t watch it.

” Even old guys in MMA could still handle business, I think, with Jake Paul. “

Paul has mainly fought ex-MMA fighters in boxing and last year faced 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a drab contest.

The one defeat on his record was by Tommy Fury in February 2023.

Paul has set up his own promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, as a boxer and recently called out to two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua for a fight next year.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn ridiculed the match-up and Hardy says he now sees Paul as more of a promotional tool for the PFL rather than one of their star fighters.

” I’m not seeing him making any moves in that direction, certainly from my perspective, “Hardy said.

” He called out Anthony Joshua the other day did he not? He’s certainly making things interesting for the combat sports world.
