‘An epic fightback’ – Blundell makes Man Utd return after giving birth

With a 3-2 victory over Brighton on Sunday, Manchester United continued their women’s super league unbeaten run with a strong performance.

With their fifth victory of the campaign, Marc Skinner’s side is now two goals away from leaders Chelsea and Manchester City, but many people couldn’t possibly overlook the most profound moment.

Right-back Hannah Blundell made a substitute debut shortly after Jess Park scored for United.

It appears to be just one of Skinner’s three adjustments made at the hour mark.

In reality, Blundell’s performance marked the start of a remarkable comeback, with her first appearance in more than a year following Romi’s birth.

She became the first United player to play after giving birth on the final day of the 2023-24 season in a 6-0 defeat to her former side Chelsea on the same day.

After her half-hour cameo, Blundell wrote on Instagram, “That felt good.”

“First minutes of the WSL after giving birth to my son Romi. Without my team-mates, physiotherapists, coaches, and of course my daughter and husband, who would have traveled a long way, we wouldn’t have arrived.

The 31-year-old replaced Canada international Jayde Riviere, who helped United hold on for a victory in a frantic finish.

It’s a fantastic story in itself, according to Skinner, to welcome back Hannah after giving birth.

“I think I’ll feel it in my own pride on the way home. She has worked extremely hard and has been anticipating it for a while.

Blundell’s return to United is a significant boost.

Blundell, who left Chelsea in 2021, started for United for the first three seasons before helping the club win their first FA Cup in May 2024.

The club made the announcement that she was expecting her first child four months later.

Blundell’s contract was in its final year when it was announced, but the club triggered a retention clause to allow her to receive maternity pay and medical care.

Prior to the start of the 2014-15 campaign, Skinner immediately became aware of the pregnancy and began recruiting defenders.

Blundell gave birth to her daughter via caesarean section on March 31 of this year.

Romi and her baby were present for her first official run on July 4th, when she arrived at Carrington.

Being told to do nothing for six weeks was a real challenge for a football player who has always been active, Blundell wrote on Instagram after returning from training.

Knowing what my body had just gone through in order to give birth to my child, I had to accept it mentally.

Being able to run again and begin getting ready to play football after three months makes me feel happy and excited. But now my little girl is the one who needs me even more.

Blundell took a different approach in September when he appeared for United’s under-21 team.

I finally stepped back on the pitch after 16 months of playing in a competitive match, according to Blundell.

“Re-applying this shirt felt good. My love for football never wavered despite the journey that has involved patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

Before making her comeback on Sunday, she made the team for Chelsea on October 3 and continued to play for Valerenga, Everton, and Atletico Madrid unassisted.

The full-back impressed her former United teammate Nikita Parris, who currently plays for the London City Lionesses.

She has worked so hard to return and join a United squad that is strong on all fronts, according to Parris, who spoke to Sky Sports.

However, you must take an opportunity when given one, as Hannah has done.

The family believes that the United team sprit has been successful. The girls really stand by one another and fight for one another in the amazing dressing room.

A United team hoping to place in the top three in the WSL, believes former Scotland captain Rachel Corsie, who believes Blundell’s return could be a boost.

Imperious Sinner triumphs in Paris to regain world number one ranking

Jannik Sinner reclaimed Carlos Alcaraz’ world number one spot after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in his first Paris Masters competition.

Sinner’s winning streak on indoor hard courts, which dates back to the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, was extended by winning 6-4 7-6 (7-4) against the Canadian.

Before the ATP Finals, which officially kick off on November 9th, the Italian placed 250 points ahead of Alcaraz in the rankings.

Sinner’s victory puts an end to his rivalry with Alcaraz, which has reached stratospheric heights, ensuring that the year-end world number one ranking will move on to the final tournament of the season.

The pair’s success continues with their differing standing on the men’s tour, where they have won the last eight Grand Slam competitions.

The gap between Alcaraz and Zverev, who are second, and third-placed German, (5, 560), is such that they are so dominant that they are superior.

Four-time major champion Sinner remarked, “We both knew what was on the line,” adding that the final was “so intense and we both knew what was going to happen.”

“I’m very happy from my side,” I said. We’ve tried to work on some things, and I’m very happy to see this sort of outcome.

Alcaraz’s 65-week reign as world number one ended with Sinner losing to the Spaniard in the US Open final in September.

He won the Paris title by conceding the fewest games since the event switched to hard courts in 2007 and reclaimed the top spot in style.

The Australian Open and Wimbledon champion was completely untroubled in his quest to win the first set despite only allowing three points in his five service matches.

Sinner was dominant in the rallies, scoring 17 of his first 25 points from the start, and he won 93% of the points on his first serve in the opener.

Auger-Aliassime raised his game, securing numerous break points in the second set before falling 4-3, but Sinner continued to fend off his opponent with opportunities.

Sinner broke through the set to take the first deuce of his career, but the players held out for a tie-break, and despite briefly displaying physical weakness, the pair eventually came out and levelled at 5-5.

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool lost to Briton Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara in the doubles final, winning 6-3, 6-4, to jointly claim their first ATP Masters 1000 title.

We are two very happy, happy boys, Patten said after winning the first five meetings this season against Cash and Glasspool. The best pair in the world right now is Julian and Lloyd.

Alfie Hewett also won the first wheelchair men’s singles title in Paris after defeating fellow Briton Gordon Reid 7-5, 7-4, and 6-0.

Edwards and O’Neil among Wolves contenders

Images courtesy of Getty

One of the first names to be considered for the Wolves manager position is Vitor Pereira, with Rob Edwards and Gary O’Neil.

Following a 10-game winless Premier League season, the team fired Pereira on Sunday.

And the Wolves’ ownership is considering names like Edwards and O’Neil, both of whom have historical ties to the club.

Due to his current employment at Middlesbrough, Edwards might find it difficult to get a job there.

However, it is said that the former Luton head coach, who made over 100 appearances for Wolves during his playing career, is a strong candidate for the position.

As Wolves begin the selection process for a new head coach, the 42-year-old is said to have received board support.

O’Neil, 42, is also emerging as a potential surprise candidate, despite the fact that Wolves fired him in December of last year.

For Edwards, a former first-team coach at Molineux, there hasn’t been a communication with Middlesbrough.

Former England international Carrick, who is out of work and another player reportedly being considered, has not yet been contacted, and Edwards took Michael Carrick’s place at Riverside Stadium in the summer.

Wolves’ eighth top-flight victory came on Saturday against Fulham, who defeated them 3-3.

They are eight points clear of Burnley, who is 17th, at the bottom of the table.

In September, Pereira assumed control of the company and signed a new three-year contract in December 2024.

The Portuguese captioned the Instagram post, “It has been a privilege to lead the Wolverhampton Wanderers and have a special relationship with this team and its supporters.

I want to thank the club’s owners for their support, the players for their hard work and commitment over the past few months, and the entire staff for helping me feel like a member of the family.

Nuno Celebrates First Win As West Ham Boss

At the London Stadium, Newcastle defeated Newcastle 3-1 to celebrate his first victory as West Ham manager on Sunday.

After only their second Premier League victory of the year, the Hammers are now just three points clear of 17th-placed Burnley, who they face next week.

A fine early strike from Jacob Murph gave Newcastle the lead at half-time, but Lucas Paqueta equalized and an own goal from the unlucky Sven Botman gave the hosts the lead.

At the break, Howe made numerous adjustments to his off-colour side, and Newcastle won West Ham in the opening half.

On the final whistle of West Ham United’s and Newcastle United’s English Premier League game, which takes place on November 2, 2025 at the London Stadium, Portugal’s head coach Nuno Esparro Santo grinnes.

However, the visitors’ attacks were brutal, and Tomas Soucek secured all three points in the closing moments.

In late September, Nuno was fired from West Ham, leaving them with Nottingham Forest, who are also in the drop zone.

The Portuguese has to wait patiently for his first victory, though.

Just 26 seconds after Jarrod Bowen’s shot slammed off the post at the other end, Murphy fired a fizzing shot from the edge of the area to give Newcastle the lead in the fourth minute.

Six minutes later, West Ham was given a penalty by the referee, who had determined that Malick Thiaw had brought Bowen down, but the decision was overturned due to a VAR review because Thiaw had touched the ball.

When Paqueta slammed a sweet shot past Nick Pope in the 35th minute, the Hammers were deservedly level.

And just before half-time, Pope was stranded after being intercepted by Botman by a low cross from defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

At half-time, Howe substituted Emil Krafth, Nick Woltemade, and Anthony Gordon for Fabian Schar, William Osula, and Jacob Ramsey.

West Ham threatened a third goal, but Pope was immediately called into action twice at the other end as the visitors dominated possession.

With less than 20 minutes left, Hammers midfielder Freddie Potts found the net, but the goal was ruled out due to offside.

Soucek had the last laugh as Newcastle searched for an equaliser before finding an equalizer.

Sinner Wins Paris Masters, Reclaims World No. 1 Ranking

With a 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday, Jannik Sinner, the four-time Grand Slam champion, reclaimed his position at the top of the world rankings.

Also available to read: Sinner, Zverev, and Last Eight of the Paris Masters.

When the ATP rankings are updated on Monday, the 24-year-old will return to the pinnacle of men’s tennis in the wake of the current world number one Carlos Alcaraz of Spain’s crash out early in the tournament, where his maiden crown was held in Paris.

The Italian first climbed to the top of the rankings in June of last year, where he held it for 65 weeks before losing to Alcaraz in the US Open championship match in September.

After losing in a remarkable five-set final to Alcaraz earlier in the season, Sinner’s reign will taste even sweeter.

Sinner has now won five titles this year, including the Australian Open and Wimbledon, despite missing three months at the beginning of 2025 after twice testing positive for clostebol in March of last year.

However, it was his first 1, 000-level victory since Shanghai in October, with Sunday’s victory.

For ninth-seeded Canadian Auger-Aliassime, failing to pass the final setback in Paris-area prevented him from clinching a spot at the ATP Finals later this month.

However, Auger-Aliassime is the favorite to win the eighth and final spots in the season-ending competition after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the race to Turin.

The 25-year-old has experienced a renaissance in 2025 and reclaimed his place among the world’s top 10 despite being unable to add a fourth title to his list of accomplishments so far this season.

Power-Hitting

After dropping just one game in the semi-final match against third seed Alexander Zverev on Saturday, Sinner returned to where he left off by breaking Auger-Aliassime in the opening game to take the lead.

The Canadian forced Sinner to serve out the opening set, which he did in a typically effective manner, by refusing to let himself be cowed by the second seed’s power hitting from the baseline.

Both players’ only break point, which was a first set marked by impeccable serving, was converted by Sinner at the start of the match.

At the start of the second frame, Sinner forced a few break opportunities, but Auger-Aliassime made a huge first serve saver on each occasion.

As the number of winners grew, both men kept striking the ball clean.

In the seventh game, Sinner looked to have finally worn the Montreal-native down with his relentless pace and groundstrokes, but Auger-Aliassime exhibited grit to save three break points.

With the match now at 5-4, Auger-Aliassime made a sudden charge on Sinner’s serve, allowing the Canadian to force a decider to pass him by as the set rumbled toward a tie-break.

With a blistering backhand down the line on his first championship point, Sinner jumped out to win the tiebreaker with a score of 3-2 and never looked back.
