Where The Broom Cupboard’s Philippa Forrester now – son’s health scare, divorce hell and new job

In the 1990s, Phillippa Forrester was a well-known face on British television, starring in programs like Robot Wars and The Broom Cupboard, but she has since experienced heartache and significant acting change.

The studio lights have been replaced by Philippa Forrester, a well-known face on British television and known for her work on the BBC’s Broom Cupboard in the 1990s.

The former children’s BBC presenter, now 57, was also known for her roles in shows like Tomorrow’s World, Barking Mad, and The Heaven and Earth Show. Her stint as the captivating pit reporter on Robot Wars also captured viewers’ hearts.

Philippa was at the center of the action throughout the first three seasons, the third and sixth seasons, interviewing contestants, showcasing the engineering marvels of the battle robots, and giving viewers a sneak peek into the mechanical mayhem. Philippa resigned from her presenting duties after the show switched to Channel 5.

She and Charlie Hamilton James, a wildlife documentarian, married in 2004 and together founded Halcyon Media, a production company specializing in wildlife documentaries. Halcyon River Diaries, which aired on BBC One in May 2010, was one of their productions.

The couple moved to Wyoming, USA, to support Charlie’s work with National Geographic after giving birth to three children. What was intended to be a temporary stay turned into a six-year stay where former TV star Philippa embraced life in the American wilderness.

Fred, the family’s eldest son, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016, a difficult time for the family. Philippa told The Telegraph, “His entire body became rigid. His head was slammed against the wall, and his eyes went into the back of his head.

My husband ran to get help after I tried to hold him, but I was unable to hold him. We were taken to a medical emergency room in a rush.

Thankfully, Fred recovered completely from surgery and ongoing monitoring. However, Philippa and James separated in the summer of 2020, causing her to re-enter the country with their three children.

She wished a bear would eat her because she was so devastated by the breakup of her marriage. She remarked, “My return to the UK was utterly depressing, in the middle of lockdowns.” A grizzly bear incident would have been wonderful, but south Gloucestershire’s wilds have provided no such luck.

Philippa described this time as particularly difficult because she had to balance raising her children and rebuilding her career. She promoted women who work for environmental causes with her book Wild Woman: Empowering Stories from Women Who Work in Nature, which honors conservation stories and personal journeys.

She has also collaborated with Crowdfunder UK to produce the Podcast on Purpose series, which highlights impactful crowdfunding campaigns and how they have impacted communities. Army Holds Route March To Deepen Unity Among Security Agencies

In order to promote interagency cooperation and enhance operational readiness among Taraba State’s security forces, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) held a Joint Route March for its own personnel and other security forces in the Jalingo metropolis on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Taraba Marshal, and Nigerian Red Cross Society all actively participated in the exercise.

The route march was intended to encourage inter-national security organizations to practice physical fitness, teamwork, and intercultural understanding.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the commander of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, stated shortly before the march that the event was one of the numerous training programs the army regularly organizes to ensure officers and soldiers’ physical and mental stamina.

He asserts that today’s route march is not just about fitness. It demonstrates our resolve, strength, and commitment to standing up for our country at all times. It serves as a reminder that our profession still values discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Let us march with pride, purpose, and mutual respect as we depart, demonstrating to the Taraba and Nigerian public that the security forces are still committed to their work.

[PHOTOS] Army Says Troops Destroyed Bandits Camp In Taraba

According to soldiers from 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), which is a continuation of Operation Lafiya Nakowa’s ongoing operations, which aims to expel hibernating bandits and terrorist elements from its purview.

On Friday, October 31st, 2025, troops conducted a clearance patrol through Tor-Tser, Kofar Ahmadu, Tornyi, Unom, Mbayongo, and Yongogba villages in Takum Local Government Area based on reliable information about bandits’ activities.

Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, stated in a press release that the operation had successfully cleared the identified areas, including nearby settlements and river lines.

According to Muhammad, soldiers in the advance discovered new intelligence in Kofar Ahmadu village, which indicated that bandits had been seen near Tati TY Farm.

Through Sabon Gida Tati, the troops contacted the criminals right away and immediately aimed combat at the area. The bandits eluded the troops’ superior firepower and made their way deep into the forest.

The troops effectively denied the criminals a haven after discovering and destroying a major bandits’ camp at TY Farm during a period of exploitation. The location’s one Dane gun and other items were found.

Wellington’s third one-day international

England 222 (40.2 overs): Overton 68 (62), Tickner 4-64, Duffy 3-56

New Zealand 226-8 (44.4 overs): Ravindra 46 (37), Mitchell 44 (68), Overton 2-32

New Zealand won the series by two wickets and 3-0.

After falling to Australia in the third one-day international in Wellington, England were unable to recover from another somber batting error, leading the visitors to Australia by two wickets.

England’s top order again folded, bowled out for the third game in a row, and New Zealand threatened to sabotage a 220-run chase.

In a 3-8 collapse, they lost captain Mitchell Santner for 27 and Daryl Mitchell for 44, who were only needed for 35 from 87 balls as they rolled up to 187-5.

With two wickets left, 27 were still unbeaten, but Zak Foulkes and Blair Tickner’s unbroken ninth-wicket partnership, which had the potential to inspire hope for an unlikely, morale-boosting victory for England was voided.

England’s bowling effort was admirable, but this defeat was actually caused by their most recent top-order collapse, which left them 44-5.

Joe Root was out for two, Harry Brook for eight, and Ben Duckett for eight, but Jamie Overton’s 68, his first over the opening day of the series, was his only run for 200.

Seven of this XI’s players now travel to Perth to prepare for the highly anticipated series against Australia, which kicks off on November 21.

They only have one warm-up game against the England Lions, which is a three-day game, leaving little room for those battling for form before the series opener.

The main points of discussion in this game were:

England loses no gain from the matches.

England won the rain-affected T20 series 1-0, but the batting struggles across the three ODIs prevented them from building momentum on their journey across the Tasman Sea.

Following previous losses of 33-5 and 81-5, this top-order effort came after.

It was always fantastic to win in those positions. England still appear to be a team that can’t find the rhythm of 50-over cricket or the self-assurance to endure difficult circumstances.

The batters continued their insistence on being aggressive as the ball zipped around for New Zealand’s seamers after losing another game.

In the second over for five, Jamie Smith, another Ashes player in poor form, was almost bowled before duckett, the opener’s opening partner, hacked a pull in mid-on.

Jacob Bethell was yet another adulterer as he slashed a cut to the cordon while Root was being pinned by a Foulkes inswinger and Brook was tentatively slipping a ball.

Just 84 runs have been scored for England’s top four overall in the series, a new and unremarkable record for men’s ODI series of at least three games.

With these three defeats, England remain eighth in the ODI world rankings, leaving them without any form before the Ashes.

Brook Gamble’s failure to repay

In contrast, since February 2019, New Zealand has won 93% of their ODIs at home. They discovered a way to win, even when they were about to throw it away.

Tickner, who had earlier taken 4-64, and Foulkes were helped by England’s skipper Brook’s error in making a wise gamble.

With only Adil Rashid’s leg-spin, ineffective on a seamer’s pitch, and Curran’s medium pace at the death, Brook frontloaded his key pace bowlers, Jofra Archer, who bowled quickly again without reward, plus Brydon Carse and Overton.

Before New Zealand reached the winning line, Curran nicked off Mitchell but was unable to take out another.

Overton, who also took 3-32 here and scored 156 runs throughout the series, is one of the few to improve their standing.

After Jos Buttler scored for 38, Overton showed strong attacking and a capacity to hold off momentum, even after the new-ball movement had faded, making sure England’s innings was 40.2% overs.

We didn’t receive enough votes, the response?

Harry Brook, England’s skipper, described the back-end match as “an amazing game of cricket.” The young people’s effort was excellent enough to nearly defend that score, which probably wasn’t enough.

We have discussed the batting, to be precise. We didn’t score enough points to defend ourselves and give the bowlers the best chance to win the game. We’ll go back and apply the lessons we learned from this trip to future endeavors.

Mitchell Santner, captain of New Zealand, said, “The guys stepped up at different times during the chase. But thanks to England’s bowlers, they never made it easy in any games, especially on some wickets that had a little bit of a snag. Outstanding control was given by Daryl Mitchell in the middle.
