Aimee Lou Wood wants to see ‘nerds fall in love’ in her new BBC show

The six-part BBC series follows an agoraphobic film enthusiast named Evie, played by Wood, who transforms her mother’s garage into a weekly cinema for her and her best friend Noa, who Nabhaan Rizwan portrays.

When actors Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis first met as students at RADA, they instantly clicked and promised to write together one day. A decade later, the pair have co-written and starred in their first romantic comedy drama series, Film Club.

The six-part BBC series follows an agoraphobic film enthusiast Evie, played by Wood, who transforms her mother’s garage into a weekly cinema for herself and her best friend Noa, portrayed by Nabhaan Rizwan.

The pair are forced to consider for the first time that they might not be just friends when Noa reveals that he has secured his ideal job on the other side of the country.

The series explores relationships, family, friendship, love, and the escapism of cinema, and also stars Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones, Liv Hill from The Serpent Queen, and Adam Long from Happy Valley. Wood, the author of the BAFTA-winning series, claims that she and her then-girlfriend, House of the Dragon’s Davis, started writing the series while lockdown was in progress.

“Ralph and I first met at RADA about ten years ago. We instantly connected and developed this strange, secret language on our first day. We agreed to collaborate on something one day. The 31-year-old Stockport-born actress explains, “Cut it to five years later and it’s lockdown.”

“During that time, it became so clear how much people needed film and TV. It was the only way to access the world beyond your own flat, to experience something bigger. Storytelling suddenly felt even more urgent. We’ve always had that need for stories. Everyone suddenly shared that obsession. People craved plot. We needed to be taken away, to escape.”

Wood, who recently received an Emmy nomination for her role in the third season of The White Lotus, reveals that she and Davis took inspiration from classic romantic comedies for their writing for the series. We lacked the vintage rom-comics. She elaborates that everything on TV felt too cool, too restrained, full of smouldering looks, sparse dialogue, and people were simply staring at each other in a seductive way.

Where was Meg Ryan, though? When Harry Met Sally, where were you? Holly Hunter, who appeared in broadcast news? We essentially desired nerds to fall in love. Instead of really cool, silent people, we wanted to see neurotic, messy people fall in love.

As part of their writing for the series, Davis, age 31, claims that they watched up to 12 movies a week during lockdown. He admits, “We got pretty geeky during lockdown, and that was our escape.”

“We just watched a lot of movies,” he said. We were once living together, but as people started to leave, going for walks, and having “velocity fun,” we were too scared. So we just stayed inside and watched 12 movies a weekend. Really, that is where everything came from.

We were originally theatre people, so we kind of kept our theatre hours in mind when writing. A vague 10-to-6. As we sat next to each other on a laptop, we would just keep laughing as we went along.

After glimpsing an early draft of the screenplay, Jones, 47, who plays Evie’s mother, reveals she was eager to join the cast. I recently finished an early draft and immediately realized, “This is so beautiful, I want to be a part of it.” I said, ‘ I’m in. Tell me when it’s taking place.

After I had first seen that draft, about a year and a half later, things actually started moving. What a gift, to be honest. It is so exquisitely written and stunning.

Suz, a passionately devoted and fashionable single mother played by Jones, claims that her portrayal of her engages in some serious pretense. She wants her girls to do well, and Sebastian wants everything to be nice.

“But with that narrative comes the pressure to present oneself well, to live a nice life, to have fun, and to appear composed.” She does all the covering up and hiding behind.

Wood mentioned her fellow cast members in her opening statement, saying that the entire experience felt unremarkable. Everyone in the building knew they were right for those areas as soon as they entered. Boom, she exaggerated. It was immediate.

Some of us were already acquainted with one another, but the filming process felt like a lifetime. That is not something that frequently occurs. You had to believe they had been doing this for eight years because there was a real sense of unity that this group of characters needed.

This woven bag that looks just like Bottega Veneta’s £2.8k Jodie bag for under £80

You can purchase the Jodie bag from Bottega Veneta for less than £80 in two different autumn-ready colors. We’ve found the best lookalike for the celeb-loved woven Jodie bag.

When you think of well-known handbags, you typically think of ones that have endured for a long time and have remained faithful to time, like Dior’s saddle bag, a quilted Chanel bag, or Louis Vuitton’s monogrammed tote. Despite only being released in early 2020, Bottega Veneta’s Jodie is another more recent bag style that merits a spot in that line-up.

The hand-held knotted Jodie bag quickly gained popularity with celebrities despite the company producing woven leather handbags since 1975. However, many of us are unlikely to ever be able to get our hands on because the small version costs £2840. Thankfully, there are some excellent alternatives that won’t cost a lot, like Abbott Lyon’s Vienna Mini Leather Bag, which we’ve recently looked into.

The Vienna Mini Leather Bag, which costs £79, is much more affordable than the Bottega version, and is available in two different black and burgundy options for autumn.

The bag is made of 100% cowhide leather, just like the designer one, which means it is strong and long-lasting despite its affordable price tag. Additionally, it has cotton twill on all of its sides to prevent scratching and scuffing of your belongings.

The top handle of the Vienna Mini Leather Bag has a knot detail, and it has a zip-secured closure. It measures 27 cm high, 15 cm wide at the narrowest point, and 26 cm wide at the broadest point, making it the ideal size for both day and night travel.

You can choose the charm design you want to make it truly personal, with options like initials, clovers, and hearts for an additional £10. It also comes with two dainty detachable bag charms. The Vienna Mini Leather Bag, a new addition to Abbott Lyon’s line of excellent options, has been added to the list of great choices that are available in a variety of price ranges to fit all needs.

The founder of Bobbi Brown said that no one in the company used it when the interviewer inquired about whether the brand could be held responsible for the wedding day look. It was wrong to do it, not to me.

However, she did mention that a member of Kate’s staff wrote a letter to Brown expressing “how much she appreciated the make-up,” which is currently affixed to her office.

Molly-Mae Hague turned down huge job for deeply personal reason – and it’s not Tommy

At the L’Oreal Paris show on Monday night, Molly-Mae, 26, made her catwalk debut along with Heidi Klum, Cara Delevingne, and Kendall Jenner. However, she turned down the opportunity last year for a somber reason.

Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the heartbreaking reason why she turned down the chance to walk alongside super models last year as she finally makes her debut in Paris.

The former Love Island contestant has been a L’Oreal ambassador for a year after signing a reported seven-figure deal with the make-up and skincare giant, walking down their catwalk in a silver satin gown and sparkling heels on Monday night. Molly-Mae, 26, had been asked to walk in the September 2024 Paris show but turned down the opportunity.

Spilling all in her Prime reality show Molly-Mae: Behind It All, she said: “They did ask me to walk but I said no. It’s just not my bag.” She was seen telling L’Oreal make-up artists backstage at the runway show. “These legs weren’t cut out for this.”

Kendall Jenner and other top models were glancing at each other during rehearsals when she said, “I’m looking at everyone in here and they’re absolutely impeccable.

I just felt very out of place if I had seen all the models walking down and then there was me.

Molly explained that her self-assurance has declined since having her daughter. On the show, she said, “I think having Bambi made me go on a real journey with my body.”

I wake up on days without feeling great. My hips are now much wider, and I’ve had a lot of stretch marks. Every day, there is a need to appear certain ways.

I just felt like I wouldn’t have the confidence to walk on the catwalk, despite the fact that this show is all about empowering women and empowering people of all shapes and sizes.

However, it seems as though the mother has since found her self-assurance after posing alongside Heidi Klum, Cara Delevingne, and Kendall Jenner.

Molly has been open about her confidence struggles online since giving birth to her daughter Bambi in January, 2023. In a recent video on her YouTube channel, she told fans she could hardly look in the mirror after her NTAs appearance.

She said, “Honestly, I have been feeling so low in confidence in myself this weekend, like I can’t even tell it.”

“I’ve just been having one of those days where I’m like, Whoa, I can’t look in the mirror.” Literally feeling so bad about myself.

She thanked TV presenter and singer Rochelle Humes for supporting her on the night on Monday night. In 2021, Rochell first stepped into the shoes of L’Oréal Paris as brand ambassador.

As part of a three-day takeover, the program also streamed live to Covent Garden in London. A number of famous people are anticipated to be visiting the French capital for shows during Paris Fashion Week, which runs from September 29 to October 7.

Designers including Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy will showcase their latest collections, while Victoria Beckham will present her always-anticipated show in Paris on Friday.
