Kevin McCloud, a presenter of Grand Designs, has launched a new initiative to assist homeowners in reducing the strain of property renovations.
Kevin McCloud has landed a new role almost 30 years after first helping homeowners on Grand Designs. The presenter, 66, has fronted the property show since 1999 and now intends to further help people with their homes with his new venture.
With the launch of the “McClaming Renovation Hotline,” Kevin is helping homeowners with the launch of the annual Grand Designs Live. The concept represents a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the well-known presenter.
Callers can now hear Kevin offering advice, reassurance, and practical advice on how to deal with the stress of renovations at home. Following the findings of the live show, it was revealed that 94% of Brits find home renovations stressful. With Kevin’s new offer, they will have a choice in what support they need from him.

It includes Kevin’s favorite words of wisdom when times get tough, along with practical advice on managing partner stress and budget overruns.
One of the most significant contributions I think I have ever been able to make to the built environment was Kevin’s comment about the new idea. It is very important to support builders with this assistance and resource.
“Of course, you don’t have rely on any of the advice given, it’s only me”. The news comes days after Kevin opened up on the sale of what had been dubbed Grand Designs’ “saddest ever” property.
The home saw its owner put in years of work, gather debt and also go through the breakdown of a marriage. At the time of the first showing of the property on the Channel 4 programme, Edward Short set out to create his own seaside dream property.
Due to the emotional and financial ramifications, it quickly earned the title of the show’s “sadest ever” build.
Chesil Cliff House saw him overrun the budget by £7million. It led to the crumbling of his marriage after 12 years of construction. Edward and his wife Hazel invested their life savings into a demolish-and-rebuild property endeavour. However, as the challenges mounted, their dream purchase soon became a nightmare.
Finally, after years of unsuccessful sales, the home has exchanged owners at a much knocked down price. And Kevin said: “I know that Ed will have a lot of mixed emotions about it, he’s been wanting to sell the project for so long – he’s immensely attached to the building, it was a passion project for him, one that he didn’t intend to sell initially.
“Of course, he’s come to the realization that it needed to be sold over the years. Not least of all because it enables him, Hazel, and their two daughters to resurrect.
