Tinubu Reverses Fresh Appointments In NTA, Returns Salihu Dembos As DG

President Bola Tinubu has reversed the recent appointments he made to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), directing Salihu Abdullahi Dembos’ appointment as director-general and Ayo Adewuyi’s appointment as executive director of news.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesman, made this known in a statement released on Tuesday.

He claimed that Tinubu reinstated the two senior executives’ positions before they abruptly lost them due to NTA management changes.

On August 20, the president made a number of new appointments to NTA, including Stella Din’s appointment as executive director of news and Rotimi Pedro’s appointment as director-general.

Additionally, Tinubu appointed Sophia Mohammed to NTA Enterprises Limited as managing director and Karimah Bello to lead the marketing division.

Onanuga stated that Dembos, who was appointed in October 2023, will now come back to his three-year tenure.

The director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises were previously announced in the new directive.

The Tinubu-led administration has done this before with appointments.

A successful actor and director acknowledged in an important interview that he gave when he was a teenager that had a significant impact on his career that things could have been so different.

Without one choice during a crucial teen casting interview, Jamil Walker Smith’s situation might have been drastically different. When the actor and director, now 43, auditioned for a role in a show that quickly became a big hit in childhood entertainment, he was only 13 years old.

His success saw him land the part as the voice of Gerald in hit 90s animated comedy, Hey Arnold. And he later went on to star on other hit shows, such as Sister, Sister and Stargate Universe.

And talking to longtime pal and fellow voiceover actor on the show, Justin Shenkarow, Jamil revealed just how the role came about.

Jamil and Tom Borowski co-host Justin’s podcast Established in the 1990s. What was it like when you auditioned for the show, Justin quickly explained to his pal: “You know, I never found out.

Jamil replied: “What was it like? It was kinda weird. It was fun…. you know how it is. You go out for so many auditions you don’t remember any of them and then you book one and you’re just happy you’re on it.”

He continued, “I can recall that it was in Los Angeles on the Sunset Strip.” That is what I recall.

He claimed he can’t recall if there was a photo of the show at the time and that he was 13 at the time of the audition. Jamil continued, “I don’t remember,” while Justin replied that he had been shown one.

I am aware of this fact. I did it with less of a voice when I did it. Because of that, I’m probably sitting here right now because I probably would have been replaced after the first season because everyone’s voices change.

Justin later admitted to doing the same thing for his character Harold the bully while reflecting on his earlier behavior. Jamil continued, “It’s a cartoon but it’s a TV show. ” Explaining why he thinks Hey Arnold has endured the test of time. It resembles a sitcom in some way. A series is involved.

“It’s like real kids doing real things having real experiences in a cartoon world… it was about something. So I think people are hungry, starving, for something that is about something.”

He explained that the characters on the show weren’t caricatures and had a lot of people’s connections. Then Jamil said he thought Arnold’s character, who has grown up, should be a counselor and that the show might make a comeback.

He also joked that Gerald should lead the city and that they could be friends with one of their former flames to bolster the drama of the show.

‘Undercooked and overcooked’ – frazzled England humbled

In English cricket, South Africa have a habit of requiring introspection.

Three England captains in succession, Nasser Hussain, Michael Vaughan, and Andrew Strauss, have resigned following previous disappointments suffered by the Proteas’ Test team.

In a World Cup defeat two years ago, they defeated England’s 50-over team to fall into a downward spiral, and another victory at this year’s Champions Trophy marked Jos Buttler’s final white-ball victory.

This head-to-head international thrashing, which is the third in a row in the series after those two in India and Pakistan, won’t make the souls sop.

Yes, the mere seven wickets on the scorecard did not adequately illustrate how severely England were defeated. The gulf is better understood by the fans’ ironic cheers when a wicket finally fell, or by the fact that those present left before the floodlights started to appear.

However, it cannot be brushed aside while Harry Brook’s reality check at the beginning of his time as white-ball captain should not be a catalyst for significant changes.

In contrast to and in line with coach Brendon McCullum’s plea for humility, Brook said, “Many teams would make excuses but we are not one.”

The 26-year-old, who endured a first defeat in seven games at the job, instead wanted to portray the defeat as a bad day.

He said, “We have to put that behind us and move on to the next game.”

Brook never overthinks and will only use the advice he preached.

The issue is, however, how he and his fellow batters subsided.

England lost seven wickets for 21 runs in 7.1 overs to reach the all-out score of 131 after their skipper was dismissed – the Yorkshireman not at fault for the confusion that led to his run-out.

Will Jacks chipped back, Jacob Bethell edged over, and Jos Buttler wafted with his hands out of his body.

When heads are scrambled, it was the kind of meek resistance that was typically reserved for the Ashes tour’s conclusion.

It would be interesting to wonder if Brook’s mental fatigue contributed to his mid-pitch altercation, which led to his lapse.

He described this summer’s India Test series as “certainly the most tiring” he has been a part of in his program notes.

Prior to the start of Saturday night’s late-night rain-thwarted elimination at The Oval, he had three days off before a month to lead Northern Superchargers in the whirlwind of The Hundred.

When asked how he would go from one format (100 balls per side) to the other (300 balls), he said, “If feels like this will be slightly easier because it is slower.”

“I’ll have more time to think about the situation and the moving fielders.”

There won’t be enough of England-related sympathy.

The modern game entails switching formats, and South Africa encountered some challenges after arriving in Australia nine days ago, having to travel from Mackay to Brisbane to Sydney via Singapore.

England’s preparation was nonexistent, though Brook’s England and the other teams did not meet.

He declared on Monday, “I’ll never have a meeting.” The “most overrated things ever”

And while some may concur, there must be a recalculation somewhere before the format can be changed from the shortest to the longest.

That will have to have taken place on the M1 for Jacks and Joe Root, two of the five England players who arrived in Leeds on Monday after winning the Hundred final.

Only eight players were present when England trained on Sunday, which is the day their main training session begins, which is two days before any game.

Although South Africa may have been playing those 50-over matches in Australia, Temba Bavuma’s opposite number, Brook’s Temba Bavuma, may have been celebrating Liverpool’s victory at Anfield.

After this agonizing defeat, Brook remarked, “At the end, we almost used it as a practice session once we knew the game was dead.” Ladies were honeing their abilities.

48 hours earlier, they might have gained from doing so.

Because of the schedule, England won’t have time to work on their nets until Thursday’s second game.

Sonny Baker, 22, who returned the most expensive figures by an England one-day debutant, will be Brook’s most significant task.

Baker was just called in to the attack for three more runs after his first four overs ended 0-56, reinforcing Baker’s dream to win the match, which had already begun with his family joining the England huddle in the morning.

It was ineffective. Baker’s first-ball duck with the bat ended with 0-76, which is a perfect score.

Now that Baker, a man of many, is overthinking in the days ahead, Brook, a man of few words, must find a way to prevent this.

The ODIs wrap up in Southampton on Sunday following Lord’s, followed by three more T20 matches against Ireland in Dublin three days later and three more against Ireland in Dublin.

Although Brook, Root, Ben Duckett, Jofra Archer, Jofra Archer, and Brydon Carse are not playing in Ireland for the Ashes, this squad’s Ashes quintet may not be there. However, there is still barely more than a month between the final game against South Africa and the trip to New Zealand for more white-ball games that follow the Ashes.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, will take two months off to prepare for the first Test in Perth, it was announced on Tuesday morning.

England and its key men cannot afford to do the same because it is necessary to reverse their white-ball fortunes.

In Leeds, it turned out to be both overcooked and undercooked.

Indonesia’s president to go ahead with China trip despite protests

After initially cancelling because of days of extensive protests against rising inequality, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has left for China, according to his presidential spokesperson, Prasetyo Hadi, in a statement.

Kim Jong Un, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and more than 25 leaders will attend the parade in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on Wednesday to commemorate the anniversaries of Japan’s defeat in World War II.

According to his spokesman on Tuesday, Prabowo is scheduled to meet with Xi Jinping in China for lunch. On September 3, he will return home.

Rights groups claim that at least six people were killed and over 20 were missing in Indonesia as a result of widespread protests.

Following the fatal shooting of a motorcycle taxi driver who was hit by a police car during a demonstration in the capital, protests started in Jakarta last week.

A five-storey building has been set on fire near the police compound in the central Jakarta Kwitang neighborhood after protesters have attacked the police mobile brigade headquarters.

In the easternmost Papua region, Surabaya, Solo, Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Manado, Bandung, and Manokwari have also been the sites of demonstrations in other cities across the nation.

Protesters also targeted other lawmakers’ homes as well as the finance minister’s home in Indonesia.

“A thorough and truthful investigation”

President Subianto promised on Friday to look into the death of Affan Kurniawan, a driver for a gig motorcycle, and he also expressed his “deepest condolences and sympathy” for the government.

He stated in a statement that “I have ordered that the incident last night be thoroughly and transparently investigated and that the officers involved be held accountable.

The country’s government cut financial incentives for lawmakers on Sunday to address the protestors’ economic concerns.

President Subianto stated, “The parliament leadership informed me that they would revoke several policies, including the cap on the amount of money that lawmakers can receive from abroad,” without mentioning which cap.

The president, however, attacked the protests over the country’s economic problems on Sunday, saying some of the actions at rallies in recent days constituted “terrorism” and treason.

“Respectful and protected should be the right to peaceful assembly. In a speech at the presidential palace in the capital’s Jakarta, he said, “We cannot deny that there are signs of actions against the law, even against the law, which lean toward treason and terrorism.”

After several politicians’ homes were razed as anti-government protests spread throughout Indonesia, defense minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin announced at a press conference on Sunday that the country would take strong measures against “rioters and looters.” In order to improve security, the country’s armed forces were also stationed in the capital.

Rights groups claim Prabowo’s olive branch from parliament did not go far enough, despite the recent decrease in the protest rallies and the military’s deployment on Monday as a show of force.

According to Amnesty International Indonesia executive director Usman Hamid, the president’s statement was insensitive to all the complaints and aspirations the people were voicing during the demonstrations.
