New ‘youthful’ £44 perfume is fragrance equivalent of ‘your favourite pair of jeans’

This popular make-up brand has just dropped a cool new perfume perfect for everyday, described as ‘the fragrance equivalent of your favourite jeans or that perfect white shirt’

Shoppers are loving this new scent(Image: Jones Road)

Jones Road is known for its easy-to-use products – including bestsellers such as its grey brow pencil and youth-enhancing Miracle Balm – and now the much-loved make-up brand has just launched a new fragrance that’s equally as cool and effortless.

Jones Road’s BKLYN parfum has just gone live today on the Jones Road website and at Liberty, priced at £44 for a 30ml bottle. Inspired by the iconic area of New York City and described as ‘a unisex scent with notes of lemon, neroli and sandalwood’, shoppers are describing it as a ‘clean and fresh’ fragrance that ‘makes you feel put together without feeling overdone’.

Speaking about the perfume, Jones Road founder and make-up artist Bobbi Brown says, “BKLYN is everything I love about the borough — it’s cool without trying, sophisticated without being stuffy, and completely authentic. It’s the fragrance equivalent of your favourite lived-in jeans or that perfect white shirt — it just works, no matter what.”

Jones Road has previously sold BKLYN in lab packaging, where it racked up hundreds of five-star reviews from shoppers:

“Lovely and fresh. Smells even better as the day goes on. Try it and you’ll smell so good!” one person wrote.

“Light and youthful scent,” another called it.

“A clean fragrance I can wear! I’m very sensitive to perfumes so this was a great find for me,” a third review reads.

Some, however, wished it lasted a little longer on this skin: “I am really liking this fragrance… It is not overpowering at all… in fact I wish it lasted a bit longer after I apply it,” reads one comment.

While you’re browsing the Jones Road website, the new Jones Road Miracle Balm Palette, £34, comes highly recommended. Available in four colourways, each palette contains three Miracle Balm shades that offer a tint, a blush and a highlight.

The portable palette has proved popular since its relaunch, securing a 4.27-star rating from over 640 online reviews. One customer remarked: “This product makes my face look younger with a glow.”

Another buyer commented: “I’m an older, dry-skinned person and these miracle balms are all I use now – I look younger while wearing [it]. The mini compacts are perfect for leaving the house etc.”

If you’re looking for other scents that are perfect for this time of year, we’ve also been really impressed with Rare Beauty’s new fragrance. Selena Gomez’s beauty brand has just launched its first ever perfume, Rare Eau De Parfum, priced at £71 for a 50ml bottle. Not expecting to particularly love it, it has become a new firm favourite.

China leads clean energy revolution, but also CO2 pollution, says report

China’s state-led investment in clean energy is now the main determining factor in how quickly the world decarbonises, according to a report by London-based think tank Ember.

“Within China there is a realisation that the old development paradigm centred on fossil fuels has run its course, and is not fit for 21st century realities,” says the report, published on Tuesday. “The government’s aim to establish an ‘ecological civilisation,’ which simultaneously delivers on economic, social and environmental goals, is the response, embedded in the Constitution since 2018.”

China produces 60 percent of global wind turbines and 80 percent of global solar panels, driving cost reductions for everyone else, Ember’s Sam Butler-Sloss told Al Jazeera.

“Since 2010, the cost of solar modules has come down over 90 percent … and China has been responsible for three quarters of the cumulative solar manufacturing in that period,” she said.

“Now, we’re at a point where solar modules are sub-10 cents per watt. Batteries are coming in at sub-$70 per kilowatt hour. And this is enough … to profoundly change the economics of energy around the world.”

China’s decisions were partly driven by economic realities, according to the report.

Its vast manufacturing industry consumes energy, much of which it imports in the form of oil and gas. China sought to remain competitive and energy-secure by becoming autonomous.

That brought a powerful added benefit. Beijing has financed a domestic market for electric technologies and invested in a growing patent gap with the rest of the world.

In 2020, it was responsible for 5 percent of global energy patent applications. That figure is now 75 percent.

In bringing about this transformation, it is becoming the hub of a global market supply chain.

“Today, in solar and batteries, China’s manufacturing capacity is greater than global demand,” said Butler-Sloss. Unlike China’s overinvestment in real estate in the last decade, which harmed parts of its financial system, she believes this bet is a winner because batteries and solar panels can be exported.

“You get some people using language, like oversupply. I think the uptake market is more dynamic and responsive, and we’re seeing that oversupply meets these emerging markets,” she said.

China yet to tackle greenhouse gas emissions

China helped ensure this uptake by investing beyond its borders.

“Chinese battery and [electric vehicle] firms have invested about $80bn in facilities in emerging markets and around the world. And this is the technology, know-how, and the finance to build up these industries … in different countries,” she said.

Last year, China invested almost a third of the global total in renewable energy capacity – $625bn, while Europe invested $426bn and the US $409bn. Its return was triple the investment.

China’s clean energy sector – led by the “new three” industries of solar panels, batteries and electric vehicles – expanded three times faster than the rest of the economy, adding $1.9 trillion to China’s output.

The US and Europe have watched on with alarm because China’s state-subsidised industries have undercut everyone else’s.

When dedicating hundreds of billions of dollars to the rollout of solar and wind energy in his Inflation Reduction Act, Joe Biden, the former US president, marked that money strictly for investments on US soil.

Even so, said Ember’s lead on the report, Biden was still benefitting from Beijing because its investment stimulated other countries to develop.

“If China had not made these investments, then where would we be now?” said editor Richard Black. “Would we have seen the same scale of investments in any particular country or region?”

“My own personal opinion is probably that we wouldn’t have done,” Black said. “The Chinese government, in collaboration with the major companies, realised some time ago that there was going to be an enormous export market here and invested accordingly in a strategic way, bringing together deployment policies … manufacturing policies and export policies. And I’ve never really seen any other country trying to do that.”

Europe remains competitive on some metrics. For example, whereas electricity accounts for a third of China’s energy mix versus one-quarter in Europe, Europe’s electricity is cleaner, with three in 10 gigawatts coming from renewables, compared with China’s two in every 10.

And for all its investment, China has yet to show a reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions, which is, after all, the main objective of the energy transition. According to the International Energy Agency, emissions from the European Union and the US have been falling since the turn of the century.

Nottingham Forest Appoint Postecoglou As Manager

Nottingham Forest appointed Ange Postecoglou as manager on Tuesday to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked following a dispute with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno led Forest to European qualification for the first time in 30 years last season by finishing seventh in the Premier League.

But he became the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season after publicly stating that his relationship with Greek billionaire Marinakis had deteriorated.

Postecoglou himself was sacked by Tottenham in June just days after winning the Europa League.

Despite ending Spurs’ 17-year wait to win a trophy, the Australian was dismissed due to Tottenham’s worst league season since 1976/77 as they finished 17th.

However, Marinakis backed the 60-year-old to continue his record of winning trophies at Tottenham, Celtic, Yokohama Marinos and during his spell in charge of Australia.

“We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies,” said Marinakis.

“His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”

Greek-born Postecoglou will take charge of Forest, who sit 10th in the Premier League on four points after three games, for the first time in Saturday’s daunting trip to Arsenal

Marinakis is hoping he can repeat his Europa League success, with Forest among the favourites to win the competition.

But Postecoglou’s attacking style is vastly different to the cautious approach that reaped rewards for Nuno at the City Ground.

“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies,” added Marinakis.

“Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”

Relationship ‘changed’

Nuno took charge in December 2023 after Steve Cooper was sacked and went on to save the club from relegation.

Forest surpassed all expectations last season, but cracks in the relationship between Nuno and Marinakis began to show after they let slip a promising opportunity to qualify for the Champions League.

Marinakis appeared to confront Nuno on the pitch following a 2-2 draw against Leicester in May, although the club claimed that was due to the decision to let striker Taiwo Awoniyi play on following an 88th-minute injury that later required urgent abdominal surgery.

Nuno was then publicly critical of Forest’s transfer activity before the season began, saying that he was “worried” about their prospects and his squad had been left “unbalanced”.

Forest eventually brought in 13 players as new sporting director Edu Gaspar took a more hands-on role in signings.

“Following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach,” Forest said in a statement released just after midnight on Tuesday morning.

“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.”

Ozzy Osbourne’s MTV tribute by Yungblud branded ‘nail in the coffin for rock’ by star

Yungblud and Aerosmith came together at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards to pay tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne but it seems not all were impressed by the show

Ozzy Osbourne’s friend Yungblud teamed up with Aerosmith at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards for a touching tribute to the late rocker, yet it didn’t go down well with everyone. The musicians came together to perform a medley of hits by the Prince of Darkness.

The Black Sabbath frontman’s family even appeared in clips before the performance dedicated to Ozzy, who died in July aged 76. Yungblud kicked off the tribute by singing Crazy Train and Changes with Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourton guitar.

They were then joined by the Aerosmith duo Steven Tyler and Joe Perry for Mama, I’m Coming Home at the star-studded bash at New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday night.

After the performance, the quartet embraced and Yungblud shouted: “Ozzy forever man!” However, not everyone was impressed by the tribute.

The Darkness’ Dan Hawkins has since branded the tribute to Ozzy as “another nail in the coffin of rock ‘n’ roll.” The guitarist fumed on Instagram : “Another nail in the coffin of rock n roll. Cynical, nauseating and more importantly; s***.”

Seemingly referring to Yungblud, he added: “Makes me sick how people jump on this s*** to further their own careers.” He also captioned a clip from Mama, I’m Coming Home: “What a bunch of b***ends.”

The footage showed pop star Ariana Grande rocking out to the performance and appearing in awe. Speaking before the tribute, Nuno, 58, said he knew the tribute – which was introduced by Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne and his four children via video link – would be emotional.

He told People magazine on the red carpet that his “15-year-old self” couldn’t “believe” he’d be performing for Ozzy. Nuno added: “We’re gonna blow the roof off the place and I think the fans are gonna be pleased. Maybe a few tears at the end.”

Aerosmith previously paid tribute to Ozzy, who they described as their “brother in rock”, following his death. They wrote on Instagram at the time: “We’re heartbroken to hear about the passing of our brother in rock, Ozzy Osbourne. A voice that changed music forever.

“From Black Sabbath to his solo work, Ozzy redefined what it meant to be heavy. He did it all with heart, grit, and that wild spirit only he could bring. Our love goes out to Sharon, his family, his band, and the millions around the world who felt his fire.”

Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison, also shared a touching social media post following Ozzy’s death. He said: “I will never forget you – you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage.”

He shared a series of candid photos of himself chatting and smiling alongside the music icon. Yungblud wrote in an emotional caption: “I didn’t think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room.

“But as it is written with legends, they seem to know the things that we don’t. I will never forget you – you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage.

“Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough. You took us on your adventure – an adventure that started it all. I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.”

JoJo Siwa drops massive clue about marriage plans with Chris Hughes

The Celebrity Big Brother star has hinted wedding bells are in the near future for her and the former Love Islander

Jojo Siwa hints at marriage with former Love Islander Chris Hughes

Do we hear wedding bells? Maybe! Jojo Siwa has let slip a massive clue hinting at marriage plans with Chris Hughes.

The pair have been going strong since they met on Celebrity Big Brother in April and it now appears that marriage may not be too far away fro the lovebirds.

Jojo, 22, has been hinting at progressing her relationship with former Love Islander Chris, 32, for a while. Most recently, the former Dance Moms star liked a post from a wedding planner called Posh Vows. The post was about the timeline of beauty treatments a bride should get leading up to the big day, so some have wondered if Jojo liked the post to make sure she can refer back to it when the time comes for her and Chris to tie the knot.

Since they met in the Big Brother house, Jojo and Chris have both been very open about their relationship. Talking to The Sun, Jojo spoke explicitly about a potential wedding, including little details she’s already thought about: “A wedding is a two-person thing. So we would have to decide what it looks like. But I do know that I want it to have a baby-blue scheme and I need to help Chris make the playlist.

“Otherwise, it’ll be all songs I don’t know! He likes to educate me on music. He loves The 1975 and all these boy bands, but I don’t know any of them as they are British. Give me some NSYNC or Backstreet Boys!”

She added that there are some things she wants to keep quiet, despite how open the couple has been: “At the end of the day, we have a very public life, but we are still two humans who love each other very much. So as much as we love to share stuff, we always like to keep some stuff to ourselves, too.”

A lot of their relationship has been shared to the public, from social media posts of the couple on holiday and attending a friend’s wedding to Chris revealing they may have plans for a fly-on-the-wall reality show that would centre on their romance. He told PA News Agency: “It’s something we’d definitely enjoy, we love spending time together of course, and to kind of showcase that to everyone.”

Of course, this would be in keeping with how public the start of their relationship was. Meeting and getting to know each other on the TV show Celebrity Big Brother, the public were privy to most of the couple’s initial conversations and the blossoming of their friendship.

This led to a lot of controversy at the time as Jojo was at the time in a relationship with Australian actor and content creator Kath Ebbs. Kath took to social media shortly after the Love Island final to announce they were dumped at an after-party for the show after being “hurt” over Jojo’s closeness with Chris on the show.

Jojo addressed the situation on This Morning, saying it was not the plan but “one thing led to another”.

“I’ll be honest – that was not a plan. That was not an intention. That was not supposed to happen like that. Initially I was told that y’know the wrap party was something they didn’t want to attend.

“Then about an hour into the wrap party they decided they wanted to. And so I was genuinely just gonna have a conversation before and then it just led to another. They straight up asked me if I was happy and I said no. And one thing led to another and that conversation did take place there.”

Since then, Kath has started dating someone knew – an Australian footballer, Tilly Lucas-Rodd, and Jojo and Chris have gone from strength to strength.
