Autumn 2025’s most flattering colour trends, from ‘ecru’ blonde to ‘griege’ grey

Want a need look for autumn? Here’s what to ask your hair colourist for this season…

Here are the colour trends to know for A/W 2025(Image: Getty)

The moment the seasons change, wardrobes aren’t the only things getting a refresh. Just as chunky knits and boots start calling, there’s a sudden urge to switch up hair colour too. Summer sun and holidays leave strands a little faded and frazzled, and by September, the itch for something new is strong.

According to Siobhan Haug, former British Colour Technician of the year and co-owner at Haug London Haus, that’s exactly why autumn is the busiest time in the salon. “People naturally have a back-to-school mentality,” she says. “Post-summer, your hair is a bit parched and the undertone shines through. If you’re blonde then you’re more yellow, and if you’re brunette you can be more red. Everyone wants a new tone after the sun strips the hair.”

This year’s autumn/winter trends are all about clever tonal shifts and elevated shades that feel both seasonal and flattering. From luminescent blondes to rich brunettes and sophisticated greys, these are the shades to know now…

Blonde

For blondes, two techniques are taking the lead. First up is Saturn blonde, a luminous sheer tone that gives a luxurious yet wearable finish. Think Pamela Anderson or Claudia Schiffer, or Julia Garner’s chic, modern blonde. “It’s a warmer blonde that’s very shiny but still sheer, not heavy,” says Siobhan. “It’s ideal for an all-over blonde – a global colour – and it even helps to take out yellow tones if your hair feels too light.” The only catch? Saturn blonde is high-commitment, demanding regular salon visits and at-home care, but the payoff is a radiant, polished look.

The second trend is Aspect lights. This approach moves away from subtle babylights towards more prominent placements that contour the face. Siobhan describes it as “contouring with colour to accentuate the skin tone,” and the results are striking. Charlize Theron has been seen with this style, which places lighter tones exactly where they flatter most, giving a more sculpted and intentional finish. It also works perfectly on curly and coily hair using more caramel tones.

Bronde

For those who prefer the in-between, bronde continues its reign with two distinct takes. Teddy bronde is simple, soft and natural-looking – a single all-over toner on top of blonde hair for a seamless finish. “Taylor Swift is a great example,” says Siobhan, noting that Hailey Bieber has also championed a cooler teddy version. It’s understated, easy to wear, and incredibly versatile.

Then there’s Ecru bronde, which sits directly between blonde and brunette and offers more depth. It’s about clever colour layering, with the base tone chosen to suit the skin. Cool undertones lean towards mushroom shades, while warmer complexions are lifted with chocolate, beige, or even buttercream hues. It’s the perfect progression shade for anyone caught between the two camps.

Head of beauty Zoe says: “After years of all-over highlights, I was honestly exhausted with the constant upkeep and the harsh line of regrowth every few weeks. When I sat down with Siobhan, she suggested trying ecru bronde as a softer, more natural option that would blend beautifully with my base colour. The process was clever, layering tones that sat perfectly between blonde and brunette, and the result is a shade that feels modern and pretty but low-maintenance. It looks glossy, healthy and most importantly, I don’t feel like I’m battling regrowth two weeks after leaving the salon.”

Brunettes

Brunettes are turning darker, richer and cooler this season. Sombre, a soft, cool brunette, is in demand as clients look to neutralise warm, sun-faded tones left over from summer. “We do it as an all-over gloss with a cendre tone, which is half violet, half blue, to cancel out the red,” Siobhan explains. “The result is a cool dark brown, like Doja Cat or Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams.” Shiny, moody and chic, sombre is a timeless winter update.

At the bolder end of the brunette spectrum are high pigmented shades . These are saturated, vibrant hues in the red family that deliver a punch of colour. Lizzo and Serena Williams have both embraced this kind of hyper-pigment look. In the salon, the process involves a two-step application: an all-over base colour followed by a post-colour mask to lock in depth and chromatic intensity. The result is glossy, dimensional colour that commands attention.

Mitchum users issue warning to users of these deodorants after ‘burning’ reaction

After several women came forward reporting a ‘burning’ sensation after using popular deodorant Mitchum – the brand took to social media to issue an apology over the new manufacturing methods

Popular deodorant Mitchum has come under fire after users reported a ‘burning’ sensation after using the product. One user took to TikTok to ask if anyone else’s armpits had been ‘viciously attacked’ by the deodorant, and shortly after, the brand went into a huge investigation when an alarming number of people were reportedly having the same symptoms.

Numerous users had shared on social media their irritations from using the Mitchum 48hr Powder Fresh roll-on deodorant that were taking ‘weeks’ to heal.

One woman went as far as to say she nearly “had to call an ambulance” after how bad it had stung her. Mitchum claimed batches from eight of its products, sold across the UK, Ireland and South Africa, had all been affected by a change to the manufacturing process, leading to the reaction.

The post detailed they had gone back to their original methods, and assured users “your wellbeing means everything to us and we are actively working to remove these batches from shelves.”

Pharmaceutical professor Penny Ward, from King’s College London, told The Daily Mail: “With respect to this deodorant, the contents of the ‘new’ format includes acetyl cedrene, which has been shown to be an irritant in patch testing as well as vanillin, which can also be a skin irritant in some individuals. Generally the irritant chemicals are most likely to be those which are the added fragrances.”

The expert noted how this type of pain could be signalling an infection and added: “If one develops a reaction to a topical product, it’s a good idea to stop using it and switch to something else (after the rash has settled).”

Several batches of the following products have been affected: Mitchum Women Roll On 100ml Powder Fresh, Shower Fresh, Unscented, Pure Fresh, Flower Fresh, and Mitchum Men Roll On 100ml Ice Fresh, Clean Control, and Sport.

If you are looking to try a new deodorant, natural deodorants have been surging in popularity online, with many making the swap. One of the most popular natural deodorants are the Wild Stick Deodorant (£12). Not only do they do the job, they also come in a case with refills and have some seriously luxurious and fun scents to choose from.

‘It’s ours’ – Everton women ready to call Goodison home

To the casual observer, Everton v Tottenham is just another Women’s Super League fixture.

But history will be made on Sunday at 14:30 BST, with Everton playing their first match at Goodison Park since it became the permanent home of the women’s team.

Everton have played at Goodison Park before, most recently in November 2024, when they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Merseyside derby, but on their previous appearances at the 133-year-old stadium, they were guests of Everton men.

But following the relocation of the men’s team to the newly constructed Hill Dickinson Stadium on Liverpool’s waterfront, Goodison Park is embarking on a new era as the largest dedicated women’s stadium in England.

More succinctly, in the words of Everton defender Kenzie Weir: “It’s ours.”

Weir is more familiar with the stadium than most of her team-mates, as her dad, former Scotland international David Weir, made more than 250 appearances for the Toffees between 1999 and 2007.

There are photos of her on the pitch as a child and she “remembers the atmosphere” from his playing days. Now, it’s the stage for her and her team-mates to “showcase what we’ve got”.

“The history and the feeling you get when you go to Goodison is different to any other stadium I’ve been to,” Weir said. “There’s just pure excitement from the whole team to be able to play there.

“[The club] has put a lot of trust in the women’s team. To keep Goodison and give us Goodison, it gives us the confidence and motivation we need to carry that legacy on. There’s pressure because it’s such a big stadium and it’s such a historic stadium, but we’re really excited to showcase what we’ve got.

A ‘new era’ for Goodison Park

Goodison Park was destined for an entirely different future when Everton’s move to Bramley-Moore Dock was announced.

The club’s previous owner, Farhad Moshiri, had planned for an £82m post-demolition renovation project on the site, including housing, a care home, retail units, and a park. The centre circle, where the ashes of Everton legend Dixie Dean are scattered, would be preserved as an area of green space.

But following the Friedkin Group’s takeover in December 2024, those plans were scrapped, with a feasibility study convincing the private investment firm that the ground had a bright future in the women’s game – albeit with alterations to make to the 39,572-seater stadium.

As well as covering the upper tiers of the Main Stand, Bullens Road Stand and Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End with club branding, Everton women CEO Hannah Forshaw confirmed “minor changes” have been made to the concourse levels to “accommodate the new audience”.

The flow of fans through the ground has been altered, with the fan park open throughout the match, and the club will trial allowing alcohol in the stands after securing a licence.

With the ground still evolving, Forshaw is keen for fans to have their say in the matchday experience while also respecting the stadium’s “heritage”.

“This is not just bricks and mortar. That’s a stadium with a soul that means a lot to a lot of people,” she said. “We’ll get that open and then we’ll start to think about how best to utilise the stadium to suit the needs of the women’s game.

“We didn’t want to make any assumptions on what our fans want. We want our fans to come and tell us, and work with them to build the new era of Everton to make sure it’s fit for purpose for years to come.”

Weir has backed the club’s vocal “core group of supporters” to help the players settle into their new surroundings.

Head coach Brian Sorensen, meanwhile, says the ground is already “starting to feel like home” and praised the club for balancing the old with the new in Goodison’s renovations.

“Every time we come there’s progress. The tunnels are rebranded, the changing rooms are super nice for the girls, the stadium is starting to take shape,” he said. “And then you have all the old quotes around the stadium. I love walking around the tunnels and seeing that.

‘It’s our job to give the fans more history’

For a time, Everton were one of the top women’s teams in the country.

They won a league title in 1998, two domestic cups in the late 2000s, and reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League in 2011, and attracted players such as Jill Scott, Fara Williams, Toni Duggan and Rachel Brown-Finnis.

Under Moshiri’s ownership, the team’s on-field results went into decline, unable to compete with the sustained success of Arsenal and emerging powerhouses Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United. Since his takeover in 2016, they’ve finished no higher than fifth in the WSL.

But there is optimism around the club that change is coming.

The Friedkin Group are no strangers to success in the women’s game, winning six trophies since 2020 as the majority owners of Roma, and brought in nine players during the transfer window, including Ornella Vignola, who scored a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield on her debut.

Forshaw can feel a change around the club, although she did caution against expecting Everton to “win the league in season one”.

“Our ambition is to be competitive, continue to attract those star players that will continue to move us up the league, hopefully get a really good cup run. We’ve got the talent to do it. The squad have got the belief,” she said.

“I get the sense there’s been a real step change in how people are viewing the women’s game at Everton and that’s radiating through the team.”

Sorensen credits the stadium move with helping to attract players to the club and sell his vision: “Goodison is a magic place and it was something I told agents and players [about]. A lot of female players are looking for that stability and support from the ownership because they buy into the project.”

As for Weir, it’s the history embedded within Goodison Park which will spur the women’s team on in their “new chapter”. Everton’s men won 24 trophies, including eight First Division titles, during their time at the stadium.

“If you look at women’s football in England in the last 20 years or so, Everton have always been one of the best. We’ve always had very good players who’ve gone on to do great things,” Weir said.

“It’s exciting for us to see this new chapter and hopefully push on this season and the next few seasons.

More than 300 South Korean workers return home after US immigration raid

A chartered flight carrying hundreds of South Korean workers arrested in a major United States immigration raid has landed in Incheon, ending a weeklong saga that rattled Seoul and cast a dark shadow over its ties with key ally Washington.

Television footage showed a Korean Air Boeing 747-8I touching down at Incheon International Airport on Friday with more than 310 passengers who had been arrested in the US state of Georgia.

The workers made up the bulk of the 475 people swept up during a raid at a Hyundai-LG battery plant construction site – the largest single-site immigration operation since US President Donald Trump resumed office and pledged to intensify crackdowns.

“Everything at Atlanta went smoothly,” a South Korean Foreign Ministry official told the AFP news agency, confirming the flight left as scheduled.

Images of workers in handcuffs and chains during the arrests caused deep outrage in South Korea, where anger has spread over what many see as a betrayal of an ally.

At the airport, protesters held placards mocking Trump in an ICE uniform and accusing Washington of luring investment only to criminalise workers. One man’s sign read: “You told us to invest, only to arrest us! Is this how you treat an ally?”

Rare political unity in South Korea

President Lee Jae-mMyung called the raid “bewildering” and warned it could deter future investment. He said Seoul was pressing Washington “to ensure that visa issuance for investment-related purposes operates normally”.

Al Jazeera’s Jack Barton, reporting from Incheon airport, said US officials had insisted “right up until the last moment that they were going to be deported and that there would be restrictions … on re-entry for at least the next five years”.

But, Barton noted, “the South Korean government was able to negotiate with the Trump administration … and they were allowed in the end to [make] a voluntary return, and … there will be no visa restrictions or re-entry restrictions.”

Barton said the raid had caused rare political unity in South Korea. “This is the only issue I’ve seen them really sort of on the same page,” he reported, with politicians from across the spectrum condemning images of workers “having their ankles and hands chained together, and then doing that sort of perp walk onto the bus”.

He added that polls showed at least 60 percent of South Koreans disapproved of the raid, warning the fallout could damage future investments.

Industry executives said the arrests would delay construction at the $4.3bn Georgia facility.

Rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly is set to return to the UK after his lawyer fought to have his bail conditions changed. Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was charged with rape and other offences over an alleged sexual assault on a woman in the country last year.

In March, he pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, one of strangulation and four counts of sexual penetration without consent. Three months later, it was revealed he faces two new sexual assault charges relating to the assault of a woman while he was on tour in Australia.

According to the court documents, the star faces two new counts of sexual penetration without consent, and no plea has been entered for them.

Barrientos pleaded not guilty to all but two of the charges and remained in Western Australia as part of his bail conditions.

His lawyer had applied to have the rapper’s bail conditions changed earlier this week so that he could return to the UK, with the judge approving the bail condition amendment today.

The judge said the 18 bail conditions minimised the risk of him not showing up for his trial next year. Barrientos will be flying out of Perth on Tuesday to reside at an address in Kent, England.

He has to return to Perth no later than January 7 next year and will have to surrender his passport to the courts. He also has to keep his mobile phone, and its location services, on at all times.

“Of course, your honour,” Barrientos said, understanding the bail conditions. He is not allowed to post about the case on social media and can’t go within 500 metres of two people whose initials were read in court.

The star, who was born in Colombia and moved to London aged two with his mum and sister, began his YouTube career in 2013 before releasing his debut single Take Time in 2017.

He went onto host shows Hot Property and Don’t Scream on BBC Three and has also appeared in Soccer Aid and The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.

Barrientos’ 10-day trial is set to begin on July 20.

Olivia Attwood backed by husband Bradley Dack at major career event amid marriage fears

Former Love Island star Olivia Attwood celebrated a huge career moment last night at the launch of her clothing collection with River Island – and her husband Bradley Dack was there to support her

Olivia Attwood has been supported by husband Bradley Dack after admitting that their marriage is a ‘work in progress’.

The former Love Island star, 34, tied the knot with footballer Bradley in 2023 but their relationship has been called into question in recent weeks after she went on holiday with TOWIE star Pete Wicks where they were seen looking cosy on a yacht together.

Despite speculation that there is trouble in paradise for Olivia and Bradley after the pictures of Pete sparked huge backlash, the reality TV star has shut down the rumours but has made a candid confession in saying that her marriage with Bradley is ‘not perfect’.

While Bradley, 31, chose to skip being Olivia’s plus one at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night, he was there to support his wife on Thursday at the launch of her new clothing edit with High Street giant, River Island.

Bradley was joined by his longtime friend and Love Island star Ronnie Vince as they both showed up to see Olivia shine in her latest career move. Love Island favourite Olivia arrived at Mistress of Mayfair in a striking black-and-white houndstooth suit from her own line.

Outside, one of London’s iconic black cabs was wrapped with images from her campaign. River Island praised the collaboration as “a masterclass in power styling” delivered with “unapologetic confidence.” The range includes tailored suits and bold statement looks.

During a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Olivia set the record straight on her and Bradley’s marriage. She also addressed the infidelity in their early relationship after she found out that Brad had been unfaithful in the early days of their relationship – before the pair rekindled.

“Look, Brad and I had a rocky start. There’s no such thing as perfect, our relationships has ups and downs for sure it’s a collaborative thing, it’s a work in progress,” Olivia said.

“It’s not something I would recommended to everyone to forgive [cheating] and move on. It worked for us, I’d never gone back to an ex before, I never thought I would but Brad was the exception! In some cases, it can work. The maturity. We were like 20, 21, when me went. He was silly in the beginning, I was silly. You grow up together and learn how to behave.”

When Lorraine mentioned that due to Olivia’s fame, she can be very easily ‘photographed with someone’ and have it go viral, the presenter seemed to take it all in her stride. She said: “I don’t spend time looking at news outlets, or gossip columns. They have a job to do, I’ve got a job to do. It’s part of the job. You’d drive yourself crazy! Look at something else.”

Olivia also admitted that she understands why her husband Bradley was “upset” over her Ibiza photos with Pete. Last week, she made it clear that she and Bradley are very much together, and her connection with Pete is purely friendly and professional.

Reflecting on the controversy, Olivia said both she and Bradley are determined to work through what she calls “difficult times” caused by their busy schedules.

“Me and Brad never pretend to have a perfect relationship, we have been up, down, left, backwards, and the last six months have been really challenging for us,” she told Mail Online.

“My work and his work take precedence over everything, we have to navigate our relationship all the time. It’s the boring side of being an adult in a long-term relationship, we constantly have to work at it and that’s just the truth.”

Olivia went on to discuss her marriage as she said: “No one else really wants to say that part out loud but it is difficult at times. It’s great to post a picture on Instagram but we’re transparent people and it’s not always like that, there are ups and downs, there are things on his side which haven’t been great, there’s a mix of things.

“I have messed up and done stuff, Brad has messed up. It’s really easy to pretend you’re perfect but no-one is if you just dig a little deeper,” she confessed.
