NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Use Of Unregistered, Falsified Oxytocin Injection

The publication of an unregistered product, known as the “fake registration number A4-9566,” has the attention of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The organization revealed in a post on the company’s official X handle on Monday that the product had been produced in China and distributed in Enugu.
NAFDAC officers conducted the discovery through a risk-based sampling survey.

“The product is allegedly produced by Anhui Hongye Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a company based in Bengbu, China, and distributed by Gold Vision Medicals, No. Enugu, Nigeria’s Independence Layout, 4 Range Avenue.

During the 2023 RBPMS sampling, three falsified products, namely A-tocin injection, Extocin injection, and Claxitodin injection, were discovered. According to reports, the same company produced the products, and they all bear the same fake NAFDAC Registration Number A4-9566.

The organization stated that it is important to take into account that the products identified in this alert are falsified because they are not included in the NAFDAC-registered products database.

NAFDAC issued a risk warning, stating that mothers and newborns are seriously harmed by using unregistered or fabricated oxytocin injections.

The organization warned against incorrect dosages, no active ingredients, or harmful contaminants in such products, which could result in maternal death, postpartum hemorrhage, and ineffective uterine contractions.

The organization warned that “poor-quality oxytocin may also delay or fail to stop bleeding after childbirth, making emergency interventions like blood transfusions or surgery necessary.”

NAFDAC urged consumers and healthcare professionals to remain alert and report any suspicion of a lack of authentic or fake medications to the NAFDAC office closest to them.

The development is a further development in the unregistered drug market.

Prior to now, the organization had raised concerns about the distribution of fake batches of the levonorgestrel-containing emergency contraceptive medication Postinor-2.

Reality TV star Charlotte Crosby’s youngest daughter had to be taken to hospital recently. The baby had been “throwing up all day” and “screaming”

Pixi, the 34-month-old daughter of Charlotte and her fiance Jake Ankers, was born in January. The couple’s two-year-old daughter Alba was already their own parents.

According to Jake, this week allegedly revealed that baby Pixi had been taken to a hospital. He also admitted that Alba and he weren’t doing well, but he’s since shared an update to assure fans that they are both doing well.

As reported by the Sun, last night, Jake wrote beside a photo of his youngest daughter on Instagram: “Pixi on the sofa with me tonight she’s not stopped throwing up all day and she’s just screaming I feel so sorry for her! There must be something going around as Alba was poorly last week too.”

The family took her to the hospital, he then revealed. He created. He added that he had to drag Alba out of bed to accompany us because “I’ve been awake since 02.30am yesterday morning. I’m completely drained. I have nothing left in me.”

Jake later announced that Pixi had gastroenteritis, which is described the NHS as a “common condition” that can cause diarrhoea and vomiting. It’s said to usually be caused by a bacterial or viral tummy bug.

He explained to his followers in an update that read, “We just got discharged, Pixi has gastroenteritis, and when we leave Alba, she vomits all over me and her.” Since I’ve been awake for 26 hours, I can’t even bear to think about it.

He later stated in the post, “The girls are all okay and having cuddles with Mam, we all had a little lovely lazy day together yesterday, Alba is back to her usual self, but little Pix is still in the process, but give it a few days and she will be 100% thanks for your messages, guys.”

Charlotte wrote, “Look at my beautiful Pix, she’s sooooo much better today! ” in a message she wrote herself this afternoon. She is also back to eating! which I quickly discovered as it persisted through the night!

“And she had some large feeds!” Which is amazing, but she also managed to keep it all to herself! On the other hand, I’m feeling a little worse for wear right now! And exhausted, too! Pixi was hungry all night, and Alba wanted me to stay in her bed all night. While Alba is in the nursery, I have a plan to consume 1000 calories and nap with Pixi. Never had a day like this before.

‘Liverpool’s record-breaking summer has surely made title a formality’

Getty Images

Liverpool were heavy favourites to retain the Premier League crown this season from the moment they won their 20th title at a stroll in the spring.

Arne Slot’s first season as head coach proceeded with Liverpool virtually unchallenged from Christmas onwards, sealing the formalities with four matches left and ending 10 points clear.

Liverpool’s reaction to that was to embark on the biggest summer spending spree in European football history – £415m spent on recruiting a stellar collection of talent.

The previous record was the £400m spent by Chelsea in summer 2023 – and Liverpool would have spent £35m more had a deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi not collapsed as the window closed.

If Liverpool were tipped as champions before this blockbuster outlay, surely title number 21 is now a formality?

It is early to make such a defining judgement, but it is even harder to look beyond Liverpool as champions as the window closes than it was before.

As the window closed on Monday, Liverpool had broken the previous British transfer record – potentially twice. They signed Germany international Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100m, rising to a possible £116m.

Then they blew that out of the water when ending the summer’s biggest transfer soap opera by landing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak for £125m, which the Magpies say could jump to £130m with add-ons.

Liverpool, top of the Premier League with maximum points from three games, had only one hitch on deadline day, when the Guehi move fell down because the Eagles could not find a suitable replacement.

Liverpool’s other big-money incomings were £69m striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, full-backs Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for a combined £70m, along with Italian teenage defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma for £26m plus add-ons.

It amounts to the most concerted and expensive squad strengthening by any team in recent summers, although Liverpool did deal shrewdly with big sales such as Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoiminh Kelleher and Ben Gannon-Doak, recouping £187m.

Put simply, it is a recruitment drive that looks to have blown Liverpool’s rivals out of the water, irrespective of the ambitious efforts of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Slot won the title after keeping his powder dry financially a year ago, but he will now be expected to deliver one of the major prizes, namely the Premier League or Champions League, after such unprecedented cash backing.

Chasing pack make their own striking moves

Arsenal have been the Premier League’s nearly men of late but made their intentions clear to change that narrative with spectacular splashes of their own this summer.

These included, at last, the arrival of a recognised striker in £64m Viktor Gyokores from Sporting in Portugal, plus midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £60m. Then, in a stunning coup, they snatched England international Eberechi Eze as he looked poised to complete a £60m switch from Crystal Palace to Tottenham.

The pressure on Mikel Arteta to break a barren sequence of five years without silverware is now huge. There are no excuses. He must succeed.

It was ominous, however, that Arteta took a cautious approach on Sunday against a Liverpool team who had looked vulnerable during previous wins. The result was another Anfield defeat – leaving the Gunners without a league win there since 2012.

The old doubts could have been banished with a statement result. Arsenal, instead, were too passive.

Manchester City responded powerfully to a poor campaign last time out with a stellar signing to close the window, capturing Paris St-Germain’s Champions League-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It is tough on James Trafford, who joined City despite lengthy interest from Newcastle United, in the hope of challenging Ederson, only to now be displaced by a superstar.

City also brought in Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and Rayan Cherki from Lyon – but a stuttering start to the season, with defeats by Spurs and Brighton, suggest some of the flaws that undermined them last season remain.

Manager Pep Guardiola will look to Donnarumma, a hugely significant signing, to provide some much-needed stability.

Chelsea’s revolving door has continued to spin this summer with a flurry of arrivals and departures, but Enzo Maresca still does not have a squad that look capable of challenging for the title, despite their Club World Cup victory.

Joao Pedro brings serious quality in attack after a £60m move from Brighton, while Alejandro Garnacho has a point to prove following his acrimonious £40m exit from Manchester United, but Chelsea have a top-four look rather than a title sheen.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United have been in the headlines almost every day this summer as a result of Isak’s one-man rebellion, the club’s owners finally capitulating to his wishes and lowering their long-touted £150m price tag to pack him off to Anfield.

Manager Eddie Howe has made some smart acquisitions with a new-look attack of Nick Woltemade, signed in a club record deal worth £69m from Stuttgart, and Yoane Wissa, who also had a rebellion of his own before getting a £55m move from Brentford.

These are Newcastle’s wins, along with the £40m deal to bring Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa and winger Anthony Elanga’s £55m switch from Nottingham Forest.

Howe, however, has suffered a huge loss in match-winner Isak, whose late departure also had a knock-on impact with Newcastle stumping up £55m for Wissa, after starting the bidding at £25m earlier in the summer.

Spurs suffered disappointment when a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White broke down before Arsenal snatched away Eze, but manager Thomas Frank still has strong new attacking resources in Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons, with PSG’s France striker Randal Kolo Muani, who had been on loan with Juventus, arriving before the deadline.

Kerry Katona says ‘this is why my marriage with Brian McFadden ended’ as she shares truth

Former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona has opened up about the end of her marriage with Brian McFadden after he cheated on her with a lap dancer on his stag night

Kerry Katona has opened up about the end of her marriage with Brian McFadden

Kerry Katona has shared more details about ex-husband Brian McFadden’s infidelity before the former couple tied the knot in 2022.

Atomic Kitten singer Kerry, 44, and former Westlife singer Brian, 45, were once upon a time the pop music industry’s sweetest couple when they first started dating 2000. Kerry and Brian first locked eyes with one another when they met in August 1999, during a Smash Hits roadshow when their respective bands, Atomic Kitten and Westlife, were touring together.

Immediately sparks flew and the pair quickly started dating as they felt as though they were ‘made for one another’. Just two weeks later, Uptown Girl singer Brian proposed to Kerry and asked for her hand in marriage.

In 2002, Kerry and Brian tied the knot on what was meant to be the most special day of their lives, however, there was dark secret laying above their heads – and it was all down to Brain’s infertility on his stag do.

During their marriage, Kerry and Brian welcomed two daughters Molly, 24, in 2001, and Lily-Sue, 22, two years later in 2003.

Although their marriage appeared to be going from strength to strength, when an earth-shattering revelation came to light, Kerry decided to immediately dump Brian. Kerry was left utterly heartbroken when it was revealed that Brian had cheated on her with a lapdancer at his stag do.

Brian later also cited fundamental incompatibilities, stating he woke up one day and realized he didn’t want to spend his life with Kerry and they had nothing in common.

Opening up about her first marriage split with Brian due to his infidelity, Kerry said that she was left blind-sided by his actions because she felt so in love with him. Lifting the lid on their relationship, Kerry told host Paul C Brunson on his We Need To Talk Podcast: “He doesn’t like me talking about him, but Brian’s a part of my story, only a small part.

“There’s been so much more than Brian. I’m eternally grateful… I’ll never forget walking down that aisle and thinking, this is crazy. Like four years ago, I was in a semi-independent home, and I’ve got Louis Walsh and Dane Bowers singing and London Gospel Choir. I’ve got Westlife at the altar…”

“It wasn’t love at first sight for me. It, you know, I think he was my first husband, the first time I had a child, my first proper love. It was so romantic, it was a fairytale. Brian was my very first love, I think. Proper love, yeah. Proper grown-up love,” Kerry shared.

“I say grown-up—we were 18 when we met. It was so overwhelming, and we were still only babies. Paul, I mean, it was… plus all this attention. It was madness.”

Gushing over her first love with Brain, Kerry went on: “Brian really made me laugh. He was… he’s so quick-witted and so funny, like he was. His humor is what won me over. He really loved me. We were so in love. I think he was the first proper person who genuinely cared about my well-being.

“I told him what happened to me, and he said, ‘I’m gonna take it away from all that.’ And he was my knight in shining armor. He rescued me. He was my knight in shining armor.”

However, sadly for Kerry, the fairytale wasn’t to last as Brian cheated on her with a lapdancer on the night of his stag-do.

Sharing her heartbreak with podcast host Paul, Kerry explained: “I didn’t know that Brian had cheated on his stag do before we got married. I only found out after we got married.

“The girl who we cheated on me with, with a lap dancer, he made her sign an NDA, which was stupid, really, because it’s in writing. Paid her 15 grand to keep her mouth shut, and she still went to the papers anyway.

“It was never the same after that with me and Brian. So I think even on the wedding day, Brian must have had doubts, but we were puppies, we were babies, and it was such a huge thing to do. I met Brian in 1999 and we separated in 2004, we divorced in 2007. So this is the thing people think, Paul, that I’ve just had like these things. I haven’t. I’ve gone in all wholeheartedly, and I’ve given it my all.”

Kerry admitted that she tried to forgive Brian for his cheating ways, but in the end, the resentment became too much to bare.

“Even after all the betrayals that have happened to me in my life, I’m still really trusting. I still give people the benefit of the doubt. I still believe in good people,” Kerry explained.

Kerry explained that her paranoia about Brian cheating on her again reached an all-time high and in the end, she couldn’t move past the fact that he gave the women he cheated on her with £15,000 to keep it quiet.

“What happened with that was too much… because I loved it when Brian was on stage. Then I was like, ‘He’s ringing? He texted? What you doing? Where you going?’ That’s not who I am.

“And then I resented him for making me become that person. I was the only one of the Westlife misses who knew there was going to be lap dancers at the stag do and I told Brian, ‘Enjoy it, sweetheart,’ not to go and get a bloody blow**b when she gets 15 grand. I only got a pair of shoes for giving him a blow**b.”

She shared a series of heartfelt snaps, but one photo didn’t sit well with Cruz, 20. Wearing his signature white briefs, Cruz wasn’t thrilled his mum shared the intimate shot with her 33 million followers as he responded with a cheeky disapproving meme in the comments.

Cruz soon shared a photo of him posing in budgie smugglers on his own. Cruz was undoubtedly popular when he spread his legs wide while sat on a large, white sofa at the back of the boat during his Instagram photo of the Beckham yacht trip.

Israeli-induced starvation in Gaza kills 185 in August, 13 more in 24 hours

As the devastating effects of Israeli-induced famine in the enclave worsen, an additional 13 people, including three children, and 185 people in Gaza died “due to malnutrition” in August, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

Since last month, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed global hunger-monitoring system, declared that parts of Gaza were experiencing a full-famine, over 83 people have died, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Additionally, according to the Health Ministry, over 55, 000 pregnant and breastfeeding women and 43, 000 children under the age of five are all at risk of malnutrition. The highest rate in years was recorded in anaemia, which affected two-thirds of pregnant women, it added. The most vulnerable to malnutrition are mothers and newborns.

Since Israel’s genocidal war began on October 7, 2023, there have been 361 hunger-related deaths in the besieged enclave, including 130 children.

During the conflict, Israel has killed at least 63,557 people, and injured 160,660 in Gaza.

Nearly a quarter of the population of the Gaza Strip, or 514, 000 people, are experiencing famine, according to the IPC’s announcement on August 22. By the end of September, it anticipated a rise in the number to 641,000.

After more than 22 months of fighting, the IPC made its declaration following which Israeli forces have occupied the besieged Strip, targeted and killed Palestinians seeking food aid, and obliterated medical facilities, schools, infrastructure, and bakeries.

The global organization predicted that famine conditions would be present in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in the south by the end of this month, marking the first time the IPC has documented famine outside of Africa.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the famine as “man-made disaster, a moral indictment, and a failure of humanity itself” following the IPC’s declaration.

As an occupying force, Guterres claimed that Israel had “unequivocal obligations” under international law to ensure food and medical supplies entered Gaza.

Action has been demanded by humanitarian organizations. Israel, for its part, refuted the findings, claiming that despite the IPC’s overwhelming evidence, Gaza had no famine.

According to Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, who arrived from Deir el-Balah at noon, at least 54 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since dawn on Tuesday, including several aid seekers. As the Israeli army bombs and forcibly moves residents to the southern region of the enclave, Israeli attacks are now concentrated on Gaza City.

The brunt is said to be “civilians on the ground.” In Gaza City, according to Azzoum, there are still hundreds of thousands of families there. They stay in their homes and communities because they are aware that there are no safe places in central and southern Gaza and that they prefer to stay there.

One million Palestinians, or nearly half of Gaza’s population, once lived in Gaza City, which is now a landscape of rubble.

Leading international law experts made a landmark discovery when they officially stated that Israel’s war against Gaza complies with the legal definition of genocide.
