What scientists have learned from the biggest ever collision of black holes

The largest-known merger of two black holes has been discovered by scientists in the United States using gravitational wave detectors.

The collision, which occurred in November 2023, was described at Glasgow, United Kingdom, this year’s International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation.

A black hole is what?

Black holes are cosmic regions of space that contain a lot of matter packed into a relatively small space.

Nothing can escape from a gravitational pull so strong that light cannot even escape because of how much mass is packed into such a tiny space.

We are unsure of what exactly is inside of black holes because no light emits from them, making them invisible.

At the conclusion of a person’s life, giant stars are said to form black holes. When fusion reactions that keep them bright and hot run out of energy, the giant stars collapse.

What time and how did you find this black hole collision?

Two detectors simultaneously observed the collision, which resulted in a gravitational wave or sudden ripple in space-time, on November 23, 2023 just before 13:00 GMT.

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and these detectors are a part of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network and are operated by the US states of Washington State and Louisiana.

Two large-scale laser interferometers serve as antennae for gravitational waves in the LIGO.

The collision’s gravitational wave, known as GW231123, was present for 0.1 seconds.

A highly sensitive laser interferometer-based large-scale physics observatory called LIGO, which is funded by the US National Science Foundation, can detect gravitational waves. The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) scientists and engineers created it.

Their collisions are invisible because black holes are completely dark, absorbing everything there is, including the light that surrounds them. Because of this, gravitational waves that cause their mergers are measured. Gravitational waves have discovered about 300 black holes.

Similar interferometers are KAGRA and Virgo, both of which are operated by the European Gravitational Observatory.

What happens when two black holes collide?

Black holes form larger black holes when they collide, which is what happened in this case.

The two black holes colliding had masses between 100 and 140 times the Sun’s total mass. More than 265 times the Sun’s mass was produced as a result of the collision.

This was much larger than the largest black hole collision, which had a mass of 140 times the Sun’s, GW190521. That collision, which occurred on May 21, 2019, was found 17 billion light years away from Earth.

What has this taught scientists, exactly?

Some black hole merger discoveries have been made as a result of the discovery.

According to Mark Hannam, a professor at Cardiff University and a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, “it increases our confidence that black holes can go through a series of successive mergers, to produce much more massive black holes.”

The previous-merger explanation is currently regarded as the most likely explanation because “we believe it’s unlikely that black holes that massive form out of dying stars.”

Will the Earth be affected by this?

No, neither the Milky Way galaxy nor the Earth will be impacted by the black hole collision.

According to Hannam, the black hole merger was the result of a collision between a few million and ten billion light years.

Since gravitational waves travel at the speed of light in a year and a light year is how far light travels in a year, the merger occurred millions of years ago.

According to Hannam, the separation of the two can also be expressed as roughly three gigaparsecs.

According to Wikipedia, “A parsec is approximately 31 trillion km, so converting the distance into kilometers produces numbers with no real names.”

FULL LIST: Drogba, Akide Named In FIFA’s Anti-Racism Players’ Voice Panel

FIFA has chosen Mercy Akide and Diridier Drogba to join the newly formed players’ voice panel.

Former World Cup winner George Weah leads the charge, while others like Brazilian Olympic stalwart Formiga are also included on the list, according to FIFA’s star-studded 16-member Players’ Voice Panel, which was set up on Friday to combat racism in the sport.

The group, which includes players from 14 different nations, will offer advice on anti-racism strategies, take part in educational initiatives, and support reforms in the sport of football.

In a statement posted on the group’s social media accounts, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that “these 16-panel members will support education at all levels of the game and encourage new ideas for lasting change.”

They will make sure measures to combat racism are both on and off the pitch, making sure there are conversations about it and taken.

Let’s be clear: racism and discrimination are crimes, not just wrong. Every racism incident, whether it occurs in a stadium or online, must be completely punished by both the football and society as a whole.

Infantino had promised to contact the Ghana international when he was racially abused on the opening day of the Premier League season against Liverpool last month.

Football promotes development and unity. Weah, the only African player to receive the Ballon d’Or and former leader of Liberia, added that it also strengthens humanity.

Because football is a way of life, I will always work hard, just like I’ve done in the past and still do. I consider myself honored to have this position.

The maximum fine now set at 5, 000, 000 Swiss francs ($6.24 million) for racist abuse committed against players, match officials, or team staff was updated at the FIFA Congress last year.

The referee also adopted a three-step anti-discrimination strategy that involves suspending the game until it stops, and, in some cases, completely abandoning the game.

‘I would rupture my Achilles again’ – Ogbene ‘wiser’ after injury

Hungary vs. Republic of Ireland in the Fifa World Cup qualifier

Date: Saturday, September 6th, 2019 Kick-off: 19:45 BST

Coverage: The BBC Sport website and app offers live text commentary.

Chedozie Ogbene, the winger for the Republic of Ireland, said that having an Achilles tendon injury that had made him “experience life in a different perspective” helped him spend nine months out of action.

The 28-year-old was injured playing for his club at the time in Ipswich Town’s 4-3 Premier League defeat against Brentford in October of that year.

He claims that the time out helped him develop as a person and player and that he would go through it all again because the Tractor Boys were relegated from the rest of the campaign.

He said, “Knowing what I know now, if I go back nine months, I would break my Achilles once more, I am much wiser now, there was a lot of knowledge I acquired while being hurt,”

“We can defeat Hungary if we take the right steps.”

Ogbene, who has since made the switch to Sheffield United’s championship team, claimed he spent “a lot of hours getting to know my body” and watching videos to prepare him for the pre-season this summer.

You learn a lot more from watching a lot of football for nine months. When you’re completely immersed in it, the manager says you don’t really understand it, but when you’re out and watching from the side, it’s a really good education, he said.

“I spoke with Gavin Bazunu and John Egan, both of whom had previously been injured on the Achilles.” I talked to them about their experiences, so I made sure to schedule those things in my rehab. The result was a smooth and fruitful recovery.

I’m so happy it paid off because I had a wonderful pre-season and felt as strong and fit as it has ever been, so I’m excited.

As Republic of Ireland kickoff their World Cup qualifying campaign, Ogbene will be hoping to earn another 24 caps with them.

Ogbene wants to start their Group F campaign with a strong start against Hungary on Saturday in Dublin before taking on Armenia on Tuesday.

I hope everyone approaches the goal of receiving six points. The manager and I both see it in that way. I want to score six, or at least four, but I don’t want to sit here and declare that I want four, “Obene added.

“I believe we can defeat Hungary and Armenia if we follow the right course.” We want six points in terms of the guys’ training.

‘It’s crazy’ – Mbappe equals Henry’s France tally, aged 26

At the age of 26, France captain Kylian Mbappe called it “crazy” to equal Thierry Henry’s total of France goals.

The Real Madrid forward scored a brilliant solo effort in the 82nd minute to double France’s lead in Friday’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Ukraine, matching the legendary Arsenal legend’s 51 goals.

Olivier Giroud’s all-time France scoring record of 57 is now six goals behind the 26-year-old striker, who also scored for Arsenal and Chelsea.

Mbappe remarked, “I want to surpass Titi [Henry], but I want to.”

Everyone is aware of what a player like Henry means to French people, and even more so to strikers, and it’s an honor to have him as a partner. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the person who laid the ground.

At the age of 20, Henry was a member of the France squad that won the 1998 World Cup on home soil, while Mbappe was only 19 when Les Bleus won the tournament in Russia in 2018.

Both players are behind Giroud’s 137 appearances on France’s list of most-capped players, with Mbappe currently receiving 90 and Henry’s 123 caps after wrapping up his international career.

France made it to the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the goal of defending their title.

Mbappe scored a hat-trick to send Argentina to the final, but his team lost to Lionel Messi.

Mbappe is now well on the right track to surpass Giroud, who retired from international football last year after France lost to Spain in the semi-finals of the European Championship.

Mbappe continued, “The record is getting closer, but it’s not something I think about.” “I’m not sure if it’s because I believe I can defeat it, or because I believe there are more crucial things to consider.”

“I like it, but reaching this milestone so quickly is crazy.” I want to keep going and, most importantly, to win titles and games.

Michael Olise’s goal in Didier Deschamps’ side’s opening game of Group D qualifying for the US, Mexico, and Canada gave them the lead after 10 minutes in the first of their group matches.

Charlie Sheen speaks for the first time on drug-fuelled sexual encounters with men

In a new Netflix documentary, Charlie Sheen claims to have “some video evidence” of his past sexual encounters with men and that he also has ‘some video evidence’ of them.

Charlie Sheen discusses his drug-fueled sexual encounters with men.

Charlie Sheen has disclosed that he has had intimate encounters with men in his candid new book and documentary. The 60 year old actor, who received backing from former wife Denise Richards at Thursday’s Los Angeles premiere of the Netflix series aka Charlie Sheen, has been frank about his previous relationships in these projects.

In his forthcoming book and television show, the Wall Street star admitted to having sex with men in an interview where he admitted, “I flipped the menu over.” He defended both initiatives by saying, “I’m not going to run from my past, or let it own me.”

Sheen acknowledged he was using crack cocaine when these sexual encounters with men took place.

Charlie Sheen, Angus T. Jones and Jon Cryer.
Charlie was a character in the TV series 2 and a half men.

“That’s what started it,” Sheen informed the publication. “That’s where it was born, or sparked. And in whatever chunks of time that I was off the pipe, trying to navigate that, trying to come to terms with it – ‘Where did that come from? … Why did that happen?’ – and then just finally being like, ‘So what? So what?’ Some of it was weird. A lot of it was f**king fun. And life goes on”, he told People magazine.

During a Friday appearance on Good Morning America, Sheen was questioned about why he concealed these particular experiences with men.

“There was a lot of extortion involved,” she said. So I was like, “All right, let’s just pay to keep it quiet, and hope it stays there, make it go away,” he said as a justification.

“They had videoed things or whatever and had stuff over me, and that’s a bad feeling, you know,” I recall.

He revealed that he decided to disclose his HIV status in 2015, saying, “I just need to be free of that and then see how the world feels if people know that stuff.” He described sharing the news as a “tremendous relief.”

When asked for the first time about discussing his experiences with men, the Platoon actor responded, “Liberating.” [To] just talk about things is f*ing liberating. It appears as though a train didn’t pass through the restaurant’s side. The sky wasn’t chock full of f***ing pianos. No one entered the room and shot me, according to People.

Sheen has since given up drugs and claims to have been completely sober for eight years. He has tried to make amends to those he hurt, and insists he doesn’t want those reading his book or watching the docu-series to feel like he’s playing the victim.

Born Carlos Irwin Estévez, Sheen is the son of Emmy winner Martin Sheen, 85. He began his acting career in small roles in his father’s films, but made a name for himself in 1983’s Red Dawn alongside Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray, and had his breakout performance in 1986’s Platoon, as a young recruit sent to fight in the Vietnam war.

In the 1987 film Wall Street, he portrayed a morally dubious stock broker, earning Michael Douglas the Academy Award for Best Actor. The actor’s behavior changed after he was fired from his job in 2011 as a wild bachelor in the hit television series Two and a Half Men due to his drug use.

Charlie and Denise
Sami and Lola Richards, both 21, and Charlie and his ex-wife Denise, both have daughters.

Today, Sheen, who is a father of five, is now leading a much quieter life. He has a 40 year old daughter, Cassandra, with his high school sweetheart Paula Profit. With his ex-wife Denise Richards, he shares daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 20. The Young Guns star also has 16 year old twins Bob and Max from his marriage to ex Brook Mueller.

He told People, “My romantic life is as unfavorable as it possibly could be, and it’s been that way for a long time.” He explained that it wasn’t even by accident that the girls [Sami and Lola] moved in, and the boys moved in when they left, and there wasn’t enough room in the car.

“Plus, I devoted a lot of time and energy to that for a long time. I needed to travel somewhere that wasn’t lonely but where I could be alone.

His Netflix debut, aka Charlie Sheen, will be premiered on September 10 and his new book, The Book of Sheen, will be released on September 9.

Tom Grennan suffers ‘greatest onstage fall in history’ during live concert

The singer attempted a jump while belting out the lyrics to his popular song Lionheart during his live performance in Birmingham. He fell and hit himself hard off the platform.

Tom Grennan gave fans in Birmingham more drama than they expected on Thursday night after suffering what he jokingly described as the “greatest onstage fall in history”.

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter was in the middle of an energetic performance when the accident happened. Grennan bounded across the stage while performing his hit track Lionheart before sprinting towards a raised platform.

However, the ambitious leap was a failure, and he soared backwards onto the ground in front of a crowded audience. The hitmaker resisted letting the tumble ruin the show despite it being obvious that they were hurt.

While performing Lionheart on stage, Tom Grennan suffered a significant fall.

He quickly returned to his feet and proceeded almost as though nothing had happened. Later, as he admitted, “Not gonna lie that really hurts,” the audience applauded him.

Later, Grennan shared video of the incident on TikTok. Before reassured fans with a follow-up message: “I’m good btw,” he wrote, “You’re just about to witness the greatest onstage fall in history.”

Fans praised the singer’s professionalism for holding on to the set despite the accident. One person wrote, “Amazing night, Tom! I’ve never stopped dancing all night; I’m hoping everything’s alright after the fall! “!

Another phrase was added, “Owned this fall!” Looked so painful, the performance was incredible, and we’ll see you next. The star was quickly urged by others to be cautious while traveling, with one caution: “Tom, you won’t get hurt on this tour.”

He then stated,
He then stated, “Not going to lie that really hurts,” before going on to finish the song.

The onstage slip comes during a big year for Grennan. Earlier this summer, he quietly became a father for the first time, welcoming daughter Dorothy – nicknamed Dottie – with wife Danniella Carraturo.

The couple kept the news private for several months before announcing it on Instagram in August. Grennan has admitted that he initially struggled to adjust to fatherhood.

“For me, it was actually kind of tough because you go, ‘the baby actually doesn’t need me at all, what this baby needs is mum,’” he explained on his BBC podcast You About? “But then mum needs me, I need to be there just supporting and doing as much as I can. You don’t want to feel jealous of the fact that the baby wants what she wants, it’s more, it’s not jealousy, it’s just, ‘I’m useless right now’.

I’m seriously third-wheeling. I can’t really do anything but be incredibly supportive of Danniella, and I can’t feed her. The Little Bit of Love singer claims that having a father has been the best gift of his life despite those initial difficulties.

When he made the announcement of Dottie’s birth, he said, “To be stepping into fatherhood at the same time as it is the greatest gift I could ever imagine.” Being a father gave me everything, but music gave me a purpose. The present and the future I can’t wait for are all in the past, building me, and guiding me.
