Sabrina Carpenter breaks silence on ‘pearl-clutching’ trolls outraged by her ‘sexy’ album cover

Barbara Carpenter has criticized and defended her album’s “very bold” lyrics, which “pale clutchers” have taken issue with.

Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has hit back at critics of her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend after they took issue with the provocative nature of her lyrics and album cover and accused her of ‘exploiting the male gaze.”

“It is not for the pearl clutchers. The album is not for any pearl clutchers no,” the 26-year-old singer told Gayle King on CBS Mornings. “But I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves”

Although Sabrina acknowledged that her lyrics are occasionally “extremely bold,” they aren’t always something you want to sing in front of others. She hoped that the appeal would appeal to the masses, but that was a significant component of it.

Carpenter remarked, “It’s like it’s almost TMI.”

However, when I watch a concert with a large number of young women screaming at the top of their lungs with their closest friends, I can think about how you can all sigh of relief and think, “Oh, this is just fun and and that’s all it has to be.” “

After receiving criticism for her sexually suggestive songs and album cover, Sabrina Carpenter has responded to critics.

The two-time Grammy winner has also come under fire for the simulated sex positions she demonstrates onstage while performing her song Juno on her Short n’ Sweet Tour, as well as the album cover art itself, which features Sabrina on all fours while a faceless suited figure grips her hair.

Women’s Aid in Glasgow, who called the image “regressive,” was among the critics. They wrote online that “picturing herself on all fours with a man pulling her hair and calling it “Man’s Best Friend” is not subversion. It’s a rehashed of old tropes that portray women as pets, possessions, and props, while promoting violence and control.

Fans have defended her, with some arguing that the image itself is a satirical nod to Sabrina’s polarizing past, which she has been accused of.

For those of you who may lack critical thinking skills, the cover is clearly satirical with a deeper meaning, depicting how the general public views her, believing she is just for the male gaze, is what a fan wrote on X.

However, a second fan retorted, “Satire only works when it explicitly exposes, exaggerates, or criticizes the subject matter being referenced.” The cover of Sabrina recreates sexist imagery without reversing it, making it read as compliance rather than commentary.

Controversy aside, it hasn’t stopped Sabrina from being asked to team up with pop superstar Taylor Swift, with the Shake It Off singer having revealed the pair have collaborated together on the title track of her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl.

Sharing the news on August 11, Taylor revealed that the song is the only duet on the album, which features a number of tracks titled Cancelled and Ruin the Friendship which are heavily rumoured to be about Taylor’s former BFF Blake Lively.

Lively dragged the 35-year-old pop star into her bitter legal war against her It Ends with Us director-leading man Justin Baldoni last year – who incidentally, previously directed Carpenter in the 2020 Disney+ musical drama Clouds.

The Espresso hitmaker, who had nothing but positive things to say about Justin while they were working together, couldn’t be held to account for Baldoni, who may have taken issue with him.

“No one else could have made us also feel secure enough to give the performances that we did. [Plus] our editors and our cinematographer, like, I love the way the movie was shot,” Sabrina gushed to Access Hollywood .

It appears to be very beautiful. Everything is brought to life by it. The score aside, everything is done so beautifully. He made sure to watch everything. Nothing was unattended, and I believe it is difficult to do that.

Blake previously accused the 41-year-old filmmaker of sexually harassing her on the set of his 2024 film It Ends With Us, as well as claiming he ran a retaliatory smear campaign online and in the press after she seized control of his movie.

According to Bladoni’s defense attorney Bryan Freedman, Lively’s legal team allegedly threatened to release a decade’s worth of text messages unless she complied as a bitter fallout developed both inside and outside the courtroom.

The public has already voted in his favor in the Manhattan US District Court hearing Lively and Baldoni face off against each other in March.

Beaten Fearnley caught ‘off guard’ by noisy US Open crowd

German third seed Alexander Zverev, who had more experience than Jacob Fearnley, claims he was “off guard” by a raucous US Open crowd while winning the second-round match.

Fearnley, 24, showed determination to save five match points from the three-time major finalist, but it was too late to put an end to his New York main-drawn debut, which ended in a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 loss.

The pair met at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Thursday night for a game-night session, which is notorious for its constant banter and chatter.

Fearnley, who only made his professional debut last year, said, “I hadn’t played on a court with that much noise before.

“I simply didn’t expect it, and I wasn’t angry.” I am aware of it now, and I can handle it.

Alex appeared to be doing it without being overly anxious. It doesn’t matter because it creates a cool atmosphere.

“Tennessee is typically played in silence, but there is always constant background noise,” I just have to get used to it.

With Fearnley’s departure, Novak Djokovic faces Novak Djokovic in the third round on Friday, making him the only Briton in the men’s singles draw.

It’s easy to overlook Fearnley’s lack of experience keeping him at the highest level because his progress has been so quick over the past 15 months.

The former US college student was recently listed among the top 500 players just over a year ago.

After making a stunning ATP Tour debut, he has since moved up the rankings and reached the top 50 in June.

Fearnley has played on some of the most renowned courts in the game and has a habit of drawing famous names at the start of the Grand Slams.

However, his form has been hampered by a nervous tension that is particularly harmed his serve in recent months.

As he lost the first set, Fearnley committed 12 double errors against Zverev, including one in each of his service games.

Fearnley, who was injured in the first set due to a shoulder injury, said, “I’m able to compete even when I’m not serving very well because it’s an issue and there are some quite obvious holes in my game.”

“I’m only giving away points, so I’ll definitely fix it,” he continued.

It’s difficult to do in practice because I can make 100 consecutive serves, but it’s because of the lights, the court, and Alex being on the other side of the net, which makes it so challenging.

It’s sometimes challenging to deal with that noise that crowd. I’ll eventually figure it out.

Despite having 18 double faults against the wily Spanish veteran, he still had enough ability to escape trouble against the wily Spanish veteran despite having been knocked out by him in the first round.

Fearnley did not make the same mistakes against one of the best in the world this time.

Zverev, the first game’s winner of the Beaten 2020 final, was awarded the opening set by a single break in the first game, with Fearnley later claiming that the German had kept him “sitting there” for almost 15 minutes after the match was called.

Fearnley also struggled to start the next two sets after Zverev’s 5-1 lead in the third set, but he made some strides.

Fearnley, who was a master of groundstrokes, stomped on the ball and stunned the crowd with his explosive hitting and athleticism, but it came too late to prolong the game.

Fearnley lost to Zverev for the third time this year, and it was her second major victory in straight sets at the Australian Open.

Overall, I performed a little better [than Melbourne], I had some lapses in concentration, but I felt pretty at ease out there, according to Fearnley.

US ends tariff exemption for delivery packages valued at $800 or less

A loophole that allowed more than one billion packages to enter the US last year without paying customs duties has been closed by the US.

The US’s Friday-day loophole closure is expected to be followed by a six-month transition period to a new tariff regime.

Prior to the cost change, more than 30 nations, including Australia, Germany, Japan, and Mexico, have temporarily or permanently suspended package shipments to the US.

Postal unions around the world claim that before resuming shipments to the US, more details must be provided.

DHL, a global logistics company, announced that it would not send business parcels to the US until “unresolved” questions are resolved regarding “how and by whom customs duties will be collected in the future” and “how the data transmission to the US Customs and Border Protection will be carried out.”

Starting August 29th, a White House fact sheet that was released on July 30 stated that tariff rates for small packages will be determined in one of two ways.

Depending on the country of origin, the first option offers a flat rate of $80 to $200 per item. The second choice is based on the package’s value and the “reciprocal” tariff rate that the White House has for each country.

After the first six months, all small packages will be subject to a 10% to 40% tariff in the majority of nations.

Although negotiations are ongoing with key trade partners Mexico and China, the White House set its “reciprocal” tariff rates for the majority of its trade partners in July.

The “de minimis exemption,” which allows people to avoid paying import tax on small items, is a policy that President Donald Trump’s administration believes is necessary to lower the US trade deficit. It also states that it will help to stop the flow of narcotics across borders.

De minimis exemption has been in place since the 1930s, but it was a significant factor in the US economy after it was increased from $200 to $800 in 2015. By allowing retailers to ship directly to the customer, the import tax exemption helped open the door for less than $800 in e-commerce.

According to US customs data, the number of packages passing the US border has increased by tenfold over the past ten years, from 129 million to 1.36 billion.

US police say Minneapolis church shooter ‘idolised’ mass murderers

Authorities in the US city of Minneapolis said a 23-year-old man who opened fire on two young school students and injured more than a dozen others in a Catholic church was “filled with hatred” and “obsessed” with killing children.

The suspect shot 116 bullets through stained glass windows on Wednesday during the first week of classes at the Annunciation Catholic School, according to Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara on Thursday.

O’Hara stated, “It is very clear that this shooter had the intention to terrorize those innocent children.”

Because the police chief wanted to “get attention” with this “heinous attack,” the police chief also requested that the news media refrain from covering the shooter’s name. Following the shooting, the assailant committed suicide in a parking lot.

An eight-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were the victims of the attack.

Acting US Attorney Joe Thompson claimed that the assailant’s videos and writings “expressed hate against almost every group imaginable,” including Jews, Christians, and Mexicans.

The suspect “idolised” the suspect, Thompson claimed, and one group the attacker did not hate was “the most notorious school shooters and mass murderers in our country’s history.”

He claimed that the shooter was “obsessed with the idea of killing children.”

The Annunciation Church, which is a home for an elementary school and the site of a shooting the day before, is adorned with flowers and a stuffed animal.

The recent mass shooting in the US has once more sparked debates about gun restrictions and safety.

Despite efforts to increase security and identify potential perpetrators before they can act, deadly gun violence has become more prevalent in schools, churches, and other places once thought safe in the US.

Director Kash Patel stated on X earlier on Thursday that the FBI had gathered evidence that the church attack was an “act of domestic terrorism motivated by a hate-filled ideology.”

Fletcher Merkel, 8, was a boy who loved his family, fishing, cooking, and any sport he was allowed to play, according to family members. Harper Moyski, a 10-year-old girl, and her parents said in a statement that she was a young, upbeat child.

After a previously unidentified victim came forward, the number of children who were hurt in the attack was increased to 15, according to police. Additionally, three elderly people suffered injuries.

According to authorities, one child is in critical condition and one adult is in serious condition.

The shooter, who was unconnected, had recently changed her name and identified as a transgender woman, and had recently purchased all three firearms legally.

Jackiey hits back at Freddy Brazier’s drug claims with scathing rebuke

Jade Goody’s son Freddy Brazier described his addiction struggles and claimed Jackiey Budden, Jade’s mother, played a role in his alleged role.

Jade Goody’s mum Jackiey Budden has insisted she is not responsible for grandson Freddy Brazier’s cannabis use.

Jackiey, 68, has spoken out in fury after Freddy had claimed his maternal grandmother got him “hooked” on drugs when he was just 12. He had said in a podcast he does hope to have a healthy relationship with Jackiey amid Jeff’s legal battle to stop him seeing the pensioner.

But Jackie, whose daughter Jade died in 2009 of cancer, has hit back at the 20-year-old man’s comments. She said: “I’ve read all these things he’s said about me and I just can’t believe he’d say them. It just isn’t true at all – I can’t believe it.

Before he and I ever smoked together while we were traveling in Essex near Jeff’s house, Freddy said, “He had gotten into some bad crowds, but it wasn’t with me.”

Freddy bravely opened up about his addiction, revealing he was sectioned amid manic episodes. His TV presenter dad Jeff, 46, became concerned for Freddy after he was pictured smoking with Jackiey.

Jackiey, who is a native of Southwark, south London, disputes claims that she “got her grandson hooked” on cannabis, a Class B drug in the UK that is not for recreational use.

Speaking to the Mail Online in the wake of Freddy’s allegations, Jackiey added: “All I’ve ever tried to do is look out for him and give him somewhere safe to be whenever he wants to – and this has really upset me that he would do this.”

Jackiey’s daughter Jade, who died aged 27, was consumed with anxiety over how her sons Bobby and Freddy would turn out without her, it is understood. Both sons are attempting to navigate fledgling showbusiness careers but, while Bobby, 22, impressed during his three-year stint in EastEnders, concern has grown for Freddy.

Freddy is everywhere, a family friend once said to Mail Online. Heutters exactly the opposite of what he says in the next sentence. He wants to turn his life around by going to rehab the next minute and listening to his father. He changed his mind a few hours later, saying there are no issues, and he is scurrying off with ferocity once more.

But the TV personality received praise for his candid reflections in his podcast and honest posts on Instagram. In June, he told his social media fans he was going to Spain for rehab following the fallout with his father. Freddy wrote: “I’ve found a boxing club and a rehabilitation centre. Ive found someone I want to get to know and I’m happy. I got a good bunch of friends and I [want to] get out and enjoy myself.
