The Hundred men’s competition, Southampton

Southern Brave 139-5 (100 balls): Evans 53 (34); Duffy 3-26

Norther Superchargers 141-7 (100 balls): Crawley 38* (24); Overton 3-29

Northern Superchargers won by three wickets

Graham Clark hit the final ball for six to snatch a dramatic three-wicket victory for Northern Superchargers against Southern Brave in The Hundred.

Needing five for victory or four for a tie, Durham batter Clark heaved England international Tymal Mills over the boundary at mid-wicket.

In a see-sawing finale, Superchargers needed only 11 from the last 10 with five wickets left before Jofra Archer struck twice and conceded only one run from his final five balls.

Clark swept the second ball of the last set from Mills for four to leave five to get from three but when Mills followed with two dot balls the hosts still appeared favourites.

Mills opted for a slower ball again, however, and dropped to the ground when Clark clubbed it for six.

Clark, in contrast, roared in delight and finished 38 not out from 24 balls, having left the previous delivery believing it to be a wide outside off stump.

“That felt euphoric,” he told Sky sports.

McIlroy ‘shot down’ role of Ryder Cup playing captain

Getty Images

Rory McIlroy said he rejected the idea of being a playing captain at a future Ryder Cup “straight away” as he believes it “would be very difficult to do”.

The 36-year-old from Northern Ireland will again spearhead the European challenge at this year’s event which will be staged at Bethpage Black in New York on 26-28 September.

World number 12 Keegan Bradley was picked to captain the United States in July 2024 after 15-time major champion Tiger Woods turned down the role.

But after a strong run of form in 2025 including nine top-20 finishes, the 2011 US PGA champion is 10th in the American rankings for a team that will be made up of six automatic qualifiers and six wildcards.

McIlroy does not believe it is possible to combine the roles of player and captain, and speaking before the start of the BMW Championship in Maryland on Thursday, the Masters champion revealed he had turned down the chance to do so “sometime soon”.

The 2027 Ryder Cup will be held at Adare Manor in the Republic of Ireland.

“I’ve been asked to do that and I’ve turned it down. The idea of me being a playing captain sometime soon has come up and I’ve shot it down straight away,” he said.

‘He’s one of the 12 best American players right now’

There has not been a playing captain at the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer for a victorious American side in 1963.

McIlroy thinks the growth of the event in the decades since means it “would be a very difficult position to be in”.

“There’s a lot of things that people don’t see that the captain does the week of the Ryder Cup, especially now that the Ryder Cup has become so big,” he said.

“The captain isn’t going to be on the course all day, so the captain is only going to be able to play one session on Friday, one session on Saturday. Would you not rather have the flexibility to go twice if he’s playing well? There’s just a lot of different things that go into it.

“That’s why, and it’s just my opinion, I think it would be very difficult to do.”

McIlroy played with Bradley for the first two rounds of the Travelers Championship in June, a signature event on the PGA Tour that the American won by a stroke over Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley.

“I definitely think he’s one of the 12 best American players right now,” McIlroy added.

“That’s why everyone is so interested and it’s such a compelling case.

‘I think that extra week off will do me good’

McIlroy will play with world number one Scottie Scheffler at the BMW Championship, teeing off at 16:16 BST on Thursday.

The event marks McIlroy’s first action since finishing in a tie for seventh at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July, after he skipped the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis last week – the opening play-off event of the PGA Tour season.

The five-time major winner was criticised by some sections of the media for missing the event, but defended the decision given his schedule for the remainder of the year.

McIlroy, who also noted that other players “aren’t 18 years into their professional careers”, will play at the Irish Open next month before heading to the DP World India Championship in October and the Australian Open in December.

“I feel like I’m in sort of a different position to some of the guys. I’m playing nine times between now and the end of the year so I’ve still got a pretty busy stretch coming up,” he said.

“I think that extra week off will do me good with the events coming up – some big events that are important to me. Irish Open, [the BMW PGA Championship at] Wentworth, obviously the Ryder Cup, and I want to try and win my seventh Race to Dubai.

ITV This Morning fans ‘floored’ after Andi Peters confirms his age on live TV

This Morning star Andi joked he was “ancient” after he recently celebrated a birthday

This Morning viewers were left shocked after presenter Andi Peters confirmed his age during a conversation about Brooklyn Beckham.

During Tuesday’s instalment of the ITV show, Andi and co-host Emma Willis stepped in as presenters, covering for Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, who are on their summer holidays.

Before delving into the day’s headlines, Andi introduced Alison Phillips alongside the newlywed Nick Ferrari, who confirmed that he recently got married to his long-term partner, Clare Goodwin.

The discussion soon turned to Brooklyn Beckham’s, 26, so-called feud with his family following his vow renewal to his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30.

The couple originally tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in the US back in 2022.

Their guest list included his parents, David Beckham, 50, and Victoria Beckham, 51, whom he’s now thought to be estranged from, among the guests.

However, the couple has renewed their wedding vows in a lavish ceremony, and the Beckham family appeared to be seemingly absent from the occasion.

Speaking about the ceremony, Nick said: “What’s interesting, it’s been three years, that’s not a lot of time. If they were married 10 or 20.”

Andi interjected: “Maybe they are trying to prove a point that they are having a great relationship, that they are happy with each other, and that they are under such scrutiny all the time.”

Alison chimed in: “They are only under scrutiny because they put pictures all over Instagram, all the time”, as Nick agreed.

Andi continued: “I think there is a real generational thing for people of that age. I was 55 last week, don’t you know. I’m ancient.”

The iconic presenter left Nick stunned with his age as This Morning viewers also took to social media to share their shock, as they thought Andi was “a lot younger”.

On Facebook, one person asked: “Watching This Morning. Did Andi Peters just say he was 55?! I need to know his secret. He still looks so young.”

A second stated: “He did and I was no way!”, while a third added: “He still looks the same as he did when I was younger, I’ve said that lots of times, he hasn’t aged at all, lucky.”

“He’s hardly changed at all”, added one viewer as another echoed the sentiment and wrote: “I said this a few weeks ago, he’s hardly changed in 30 years.”

Brooklyn and Nicola’s showbiz pals turn their back on them for cutting out David and Victoria

Brooklyn Beckham’s celebrity pals are said to be turning their backs on the entrepreneur as the fallout with his family intensifies following his vow renewal ceremony

Brooklyn Beckham and his family have had a huge falling out

Friends of the Beckham family have reportedly cut ties with Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz as the family feud continues. The duo renewed their vows recently, but seemingly failed to offer an invite to any of Brooklyn’s side, with 30 guests in attendance.

But now, it appears as though a number of celeb pals have offered their allegiances to Posh and Becks rather than their eldest son, 26. According to reports a number of Brooklyn’s friends have frozen him out following the highly public family fallout.

Over the years, Brooklyn’s friendships with other nepo-babies in London were apparent. Among those he classed as friends were Madonna’s son, Rocco Ritchie, and Noel Gallagher’s daughter, Anais. It comes after David Beckham ditches his iconic tiny trunks on yacht trip with Gordon Ramsay’s family.

Brooklyn was also close to the kids of Gordan Ramsay, as well as Selena Gomez. However, while some attended his first wedding to Nicola, none made the cut for wedding number two. And it appears as though none shared positive messages online, either, after the ceremony.

Instead, a source has told The Sun: “It seems like a real shutdown – Brooklyn has no contact with friends from his former life in the UK.

“Rocco, Selena, the Ramsay kids – none of them have even liked the wedding pics after Nicola posted, let alone commented to congratulate them.”

The source went on: “Things have gone very cold with his old friends – it’s like the marriage to Nicola meant he started a whole new life with new people around him.”

They added that people have reportedly “sensed a shift” in Brooklyn’s life and priorities lately, and said it is also a bad look to be so publicly involved in a feud with his famous parents.

When it comes to the couple’s decision to blank the Beckham side of the family for their recent vow renewals, a psychotherapist has claimed it was a move that was driven by “a desire for control”.

After an insider claimed the move was the final straw for David and his wife Victoria, expert Kamalyn Kaur said the young couple appeared to be seeking a fresh start. Speaking to Femail, she said: “If someone’s had a bit of hardship after their marriage, they might want to just do a little bit of a reset.

“Especially if there’s been tension, or there have been life changes or external pressure, which I think in this case, probably applies.”

She added: “Excluding family, any kind of family, from an important event can suggest a desire for control over this narrative. It’s also signifying that there’s like a conflict here, they’re saying, ‘we don’t want you to be a part of this new chapter and we are choosing to exclude you,’ so it’s almost like a form of protest or retaliation.”

And she added that while the move to exclude Brooklyn’s family and friends wasn’t necessarily healthy, it could have been seen as an “act of boundary setting”.
