FG To Move Five Million Homes To Clean Cooking By 2030 — Minister

The Federal Government has stated that it is pursuing a reaffirmed goal of cleaning up about 5 million homes by 2030.

At the opening ceremony of the 48th Nigeria Annual International Conference & Exhibition (NAICE) 2025 on Monday, the Minister for State, Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, delivered the ministerial address and remarks.

Building a Sustainable Energy Future: Leveraging Technology, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Policy is the theme of this year’s conference.

He argued that the achievement of the target only can be achieved by more money being invested in gas infrastructure for crucial projects like the OB3 and AKK pipelines, moving forward with national gas deliveries, and supporting modular and scalable gas projects, such as mini-LNG and CNG stations.

Through strategic public-private partnerships in the gas value chain’s logistics, retail, and logistics segments, the government is also making strides to improve last-mile access, promote local economic activity, and create jobs.

“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has put gas at the center of Nigeria’s energy strategy. His vision, which is best expressed in the phrase “From Gas to Prosperity,” is a reflection of our shared national desire to use our abundant natural gas resources to boost industrialization, create jobs, and expand access to clean, affordable energy for all Nigerians.

We have made significant progress in keeping with this vision over the past year. We have given gas availability priority to manufacturing hubs, power plants, and industrial corridors as we have expanded our gas supply for industrial use. I’ve been assured that every gas offtaker currently has the gas they need for their industrial processes, distributed cylinders across the six geopolitical zones, gave empowerment to women and youth, and promoted clean cooking.

We are also making significant advancements in the midstream and downstream sectors as part of the Decade of Gas Initiative.

Notably, we have supported the construction of virtual pipelines and gas processing facilities, ensuring gas reaches off-grid and underserved communities, supporting private sector investments in LPG and CNG infrastructure, including autogas stations, domestic cylinder manufacturing, and distribution networks, and improved coordination through the Decade of Gas Secretariat, promoting alignment and accountability across Ministries, Departments, and agencies, and advancing the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP), which advances environmental goals, secured presidential approvals to

He added that the Midstream Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) provides much-needed financial support to project promoters.

All of these efforts are based on a single, unwavering conviction: Nigerians must use gas as a means of inclusive growth, national development, and energy security, not just as an export commodity.

The Minister noted that each of the four pillars, which are identified as the focus of the conference theme, has a significant impact on Nigeria’s energy future.

He argued that the use of automated tools, digital solutions, and data-driven tools throughout the gas value chain is essential.

Emerging technologies can increase efficiency, lower emissions, and improve delivery, from reservoir monitoring to distribution analytics. He stated that the Ministry works with industry players to promote digital innovation.

He argued that maintaining the gas industry requires a strong local supply chain.

We are promoting localization of equipment manufacturing, pipe production, and other crucial components in an effort to reduce import dependence and strengthen national resilience through the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Our greatest asset is still our human resource. Through continuous training, strategic academic-industry partnerships, and deliberate youth and gender inclusion policies in the gas industry, we are committed to creating a technically sound, diverse, and future-ready workforce.

A solid regulatory and fiscal foundation has been provided by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). He noted that we are putting in place market-reflective gas pricing policies, encouraging deepwater gas development, and enforcing domestic supply obligations to boost investor confidence and sector growth, “so on the whole.”

According to Lopkobiri, collaboration is the key to achieving a sustainable energy future for Nigeria.

‘Excellent prospect’ Ngumoha stars for Liverpool – but who is he?

Liverpool’s second youngest ever player Rio Ngumoha shone again in pre-season to get fans wondering if he could be part of the first team this year.

The England Under-17 forward, who turns 17 later this month, scored and assisted in their Anfield return against Athletic Bilbao.

The Reds were playing the Basque side in two pre-season friendlies – at 17: 00 and 20: 00 BST.

It was a mostly second string XI that started the first game, with Ngumoha on the left wing – and he caught the eye as he has done all summer.

He scored in just the second minute as he ran onto a loose ball in his own half before racing forward and curling a fine effort in from 20 yards out.

Just three minutes later he nodded a Ben Doak cross down for Darwin Nunez to convert from close range.

Liverpool fans were singing his name as Curtis Jones urged them to show their appreciation.

And he caused the La Liga side all kinds of problems with his dribbling and trickery in the 4-1 win.

Doak and Harvey Elliott scored the other goals.

The 16-year-old left to a standing ovation midway through the second half.

“He is such an excellent prospect”, said ex-Reds defender Gary Gillespie on LFC TV.

“The difficult is managing expectations but it’s hard to put a lid on it”.

Ngumoha’s performance came on the back of an assist against AC Milan and goal against Yokohama F. Marinos in Asian friendlies.

He looks a fine talent, if raw, and will be hoping more first-team competitive games are on the way.

In January, Ngumoha became the youngest player to start a match, and the second youngest to play, for Liverpool – aged 16 years and 135 days old – in the 4-0 win over Accrington in the FA Cup.

But that was his only first-team appearance and he never made the bench for a Premier League game.

That could well change this season, especially with so many changes in the Liverpool front line.

The sad death of centre forward Diogo Jota in a car crash has been the main focus of Liverpool’s pre-season. There were tributes to him before and during the game at Anfield.

Winger Luis Diaz was sold to Bayern Munich and Nunez is a target for Saudi Pro League clubs.

An exit for Nunez would mean the Reds ‘ only really strong frontline options would be Mohamed Salah, new signing Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo – giving a chance for somebody like Ngumoha to break through.

That is unless they managed to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. An initial bid of £110m has been rejected.

“I’m not trying to rush because I’m still only young”, said Ngumoha last week.

“But at the same time, I just want to show the manager what I can do and not get too complacent. I just want to do bigger and better things for me and the club”.

Ngumoha is not actually a Liverpool academy product, having only joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s youth set-up last summer.

At the time Blues legend John Terry wrote “this boy is and will be a top player”.

Builders of Boeing weapons and fighter jets go on strike

The Boeing plant in the United States that produces military equipment and weapons has had a strike involving thousands of workers.

After unsuccessful negotiations over pay increases and other terms of a new contract, the strike broke out at Boeing facilities in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, as well as Mascoutah, Illinois.

A modified four-year labor agreement, according to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, was rejected by about 3,200 local members on Sunday.

The general vice president of the union’s Midwest division, Sam Cicinelli, said in a statement, “IAM District 837 members build the aircraft and defense systems that keep our country safe.” They “deserve nothing less than a contract that protects their families and acknowledges their unmatched expertise.”

Following the workers’ rejection of a previously proposed contract, which included a 20 percent pay increase over four years and $5, 000 in ratification bonuses, the vote came after a week-long cooling-off period.

After workers turned down Boeing’s most recent offer, which did not add to the proposed wage increase, Boeing warned over the weekend that it anticipated the strike. However, the proposal eliminated a scheduling rule that would have affected how much overtime is earned by employees.

“We’re disappointed that our employees rejected an offer that featured 40 percent average wage growth and resolved their principal problem with alternative work schedules,” said senior St Louis site executive Dan Gillian, vice president and general manager of Boeing Air Dominance.

Our non-striking workforce can continue supporting our customers because we are prepared for a strike and have fully implemented our contingency plan.

More than one-third of Boeing’s revenue comes from its defense, space, and security business. However, Boeing’s CEO, Kelly Ortberg, stated last week that a strike by the machinists who manufacture the company’s commercial jetliners and weapons systems would have much less of an impact than a walkout last year by 33, 000 workers.

Ortberg claimed that this is “a lot less significant” than what we saw last fall. We’ll survive this, so to speak. The effects of the strike wouldn’t bother me too much.

The 2024 strike caused more than seven weeks of depressing conditions for Boeing’s factories in Washington state. Following the January 2014 incident involving an Alaska Airlines flight where a door plug blew off a 737 Max aircraft, Boeing was the subject of a number of federal investigations.

Boeing plane production was supposed to be limited until the Federal Aviation Administration was confident in its ability to manufacture quality controls at the company. Concerns about the safety of the 737 Max resurfaced as a result of the door-plug incident. In 2018, and 2019, 346 people were killed when two of the planes crashed less than five months apart.

Ortberg informed analysts that the business has gradually increased to a 38-per-month production cap set by the FAA and expects to ask regulators for permission to do so in the coming months.

Boeing reported last week that both its revenue and losses had decreased for the second quarter. In contrast to the loss of $ 1.44 billion during the same period last year, the company lost $ 611 million in the second quarter.

Actress Sydney Sweeney was heckled by an angered fan after she received backlash for the controversial American Eagle advert she starred in. The Euphoria star, who was also recently outed as a registered Republican, was seen arriving at the special screening of Americana at Desert 5 Spot in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Anyone But You actress, 27, ignored the backlash and posed for snaps wearing a cream bustier dress with a tulle skirt custom-made by Danielle Frankel. She had her blonde hair in light waves and added a cream headband to complete the look. However, as she was walking into the venue, one person was heard calling out her name.

They said: “Stop the ad! That is being racist!” as Sydney smoothly and hurriedly walked inside the venue. The American Eagle advert featured the star putting on a pair of blue jeans. It comes after Donald Trump’s mental state ‘clear to see’ as lawmakers urged to ‘act now’.

She stated in the advertisement that “genes are frequently determined by their parents to their offspring, including hair color, personality, and eye color.” My jeans are blue.

The voiceover then states, “Sydney Sweeney has great genes.” The word “genes” is removed from American Eagle’s billboard ads and replaced with “jeans” in the US.

Many claim that the campaign taps into the eugenics ideology, which states that increasing the presence of desirable traits, which have historically been associated with whiteness, could “improve” the human race.

Sir Francis Galton used eugenics to later support discrimination against people with disabilities and minority groups in the late 19th century. Although the ideology is now widely dissented, it laid the groundwork for how society defines beauty and value.

Not long after the advert was released, Sydney was outed as a registered Republican. While on the runway in Pennsylvania on Sunday evening, Donald Trump stopped to answer questions from reporters who were gathered there.

One informed the US president that actress Sydney is a Republican. “I’m glad you told me that,” he replied to the reporter before adding that the nugget of information certainly swayed his opinion on the American Eagle advert.

Trump was about to board Air Force One before departing from Allentown to return to Washington.

He was clearly surprised when he learned that Sydney, 27, was a registered Republican and said to reporters: “Oh, I love her ad.

“The number of Republicans in the country would surprise you. I wouldn’t have known that, but I’m glad you told me. I think Sydney Sweeney’s ad is fantastic if she’s a registered Republican.
