Threats and intimidation stalling top ICC prosecutor’s Israel case: Report

As the British High Court (ICC) is looking into alleged war crimes committed by Israeli officials in Gaza, new details have emerged about a number of intimidation campaigns, including threats to safety and potential sanctions.

According to the Middle East Eye (MEE) news website, top British and US government officials have been pressing The Hague court to revoke the arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant.

The most recent report came after a previous leak by a London-based online magazine in July that claimed Khan and the ICC were threatened with being “destroyed” if they tried to prosecute Israel.

In April 2024, Khan was “privately threatened” by then-British Foreign Secretary David Cameron that the country would defund and leave the ICC if it issued warrants against the Israeli leaders, which the MEE report published on Friday revealed.

According to the MEE, US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham “threatened” Khan with sanctions if he applied for the warrants to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant in May 2024.

Khan and four ICC judges have been subject to sanctions by US President Donald Trump’s administration since then.

Khan also received a security alert letting him know that the Israeli-based Mossad intelligence agency “was active in The Hague and posed a potential threat,” according to the MEE.

According to the MEE, Khan, who is currently on an indefinite leave due to sexual misconduct allegations, was also allegedly informed by his female accuser in text messages that “games were being played” and that she was being a “pawn in some game I don’t want to play.”

After the female witness’s refusal to cooperate with the ICC investigations, Khan’s alleged behavior was later ended, but a separate UN investigation is still ongoing.

Khan has vigorously refuted every claim made against him.

According to the MEE report, Khan also reportedly met with British-Israeli defense lawyer Nicholas Kaufman to talk about the Israel investigation two weeks before being forced to take a leave of absence in May 2025.

If the warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant weren’t dropped, Kaufman reportedly told Khan in a note from the meeting that “they will destroy you, and they will destroy the court.”

According to the report, some ICC attorneys have privately “expressed doubts” about the allegations against Khan following the release of the arrest warrants for Gallant and Netanyahu.

In connection with the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023 and Israel’s subsequent conflict in Gaza, the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Mohammed Deif, a leader of the Hamas, and Netanyahu. Deif was later confirmed dead in an Israeli attack.

The Israeli defendants are still wanted internationally, and ICC member states are required to make their arrests.

At least 60 Palestinians and 430 Palestinians have been killed and 148 wounded in Israel’s war against Gaza.

This Morning’s Martin Frizzell says Schofield scandal ‘helped’ amid Fiona’s Alzheimer’s

Fiona Phillips, a TV presenter, was found to have early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2022, and the pair recently opened up about how to handle the condition in a sincere new book.

Martin said the This Morning drama helped him(Image: @Schofe/Twitter)

Martin Frizell, the This Morning boss, claimed that the Phillip Schofield drama “aided” him in dealing with Fiona Phillips’ Alzheimer’s diagnosis. He recently claimed that while things were going smoothly at home, the drama at work gave him something else to focus on.

Fiona was 61-years-old when she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2022. Since then, husband Martin has been by her side caring for her.

Martin talked about how he has coped in his wife’s new memoir, Remember When: My Life With Alzheimer’s, which Martin co-wrote along with journalist friend Alison Phillips. It comes after John Torode’s wife Lisa Faulkner breaks her silence after his MasterChef sacking.

During the diagnosis, Martin was also dealing with some drama while working at This Morning. However, he said that this managed to take “his mind off Fiona at home”. In 2023, This Morning’s Phillip resigned after more than 20 years on the programme after having an affair with a younger colleague.

Co-host Holly Willoughby then resigned later after being informed by police of a plot to kill her. Martin has said that due to being busy at work, it gave him some “structure and normality”.

Speaking in the book, Martin wrote: “I was busy with work at that time. We’d had big changes at This Morning with Phillip Schofield leaving, Holly Willoughby stepping down after the pressures of a serious kidnap threat, and Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard becoming the new hosts in March 2024.

In the midst of “fall from grace,” Molly-Mae Hague claims to “can’t understand what she’s done wrong.”

Wynne Evans of Strictly Come Dancing breaks up with her fiancée weeks after making the proposal.

Being so busy actually helped me, even though it meant there was a lot to sort out to make the show the best it could be. I enjoyed going to work because it provided structure and normality rather than a break from what was happening at home.

“And it also meant that I didn’t have any time to consider what was going to happen to Fiona.” “For both of us.” While all of this was happening, Martin explained that Fiona’s “long-term memory was functioning better than the short-term,” but she was unable to leave because she was becoming more anxious.

Martin quit This Morning a year after the This Morning scandal after first joining in 2014 as editor of Loose Women before taking over at This Morning.

In a statement last November, he said: “Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won’t be able to do both.

It’s been a privilege to lead truly outstanding presenters and producers; between us, we’ve produced around 20 000 hours of live topical television, or about 6,000 of which are awards, and the results are always positive.

Without Martin’s assistance, Martin discusses Fiona’s situation in the book, where she is now unable to “brush her teeth, take shower, and use her phone.” He claimed that his wife “wouldn’t know how to turn the kettle on right now” and that she now “sits and stares” all day.

The burgundy, leather-look finish, slingback design, and flat sole of the shoes all look very similar. Both of them have silver-tone hardware, matching buckles, and eyelet detailing on the front.

Swansea close in on West Ham defender Casey

Kaelan Casey’s loan deal with Swansea City is on the verge of completion.

The 20-year-old academy graduate from the Hammers has made two Premier League substitute appearances, but he will go on loan to seek first-team experience.

With Alan Sheehan being unsure of his options for the Championship opener against Middlesbrough on Saturday, Casey might make his Swansea debut.

Ben Cabango, the club’s captain, is doubtful for the Boro trip because of a pre-season calf injury.

Both Filip Lissah and fellow center-back Ricardo Santos are injured, as is Filip Lissah.

With under-21 players Arthur Parker and Jay Fulton occasionally playing midfield at times during the pre-season, Sheehan’s only currently fit senior centre-back is Cameron Burgess, another of Swansea’s summer recruits.

Ukrainian drone attack sparks fire at oil depot in Sochi, southwest Russia

According to local authorities, an overnight Ukrainian drone attack has sparked a fire at a Sochi oil depot, a resort in southwest Russia, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The attack took place one day after the Ukrainian military claimed to have set on fire the Ryazan oil refinery in central Russia. Since Russia started its war in February 2022, Ukraine has regularly attacked Russian oil and gas infrastructure as a response to attacks on its own soil.

Veniamin Kondratiev, the governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, wrote on the Telegram messaging app on Sunday that “Sochi suffered a drone attack by the Kyiv regime last night.”

According to Kondratiev, the drone wreckage struck an “oil tank, which caused a fire.”

Mayor of Sochi Andrei Proshunin claimed that the blaze was being put out without any injuries and that the situation was “completely under control.”

According to Rosaviatsia, Russia’s air transport regulator, air traffic was briefly suspended at the airport in Sochi but has since resumed.

In contrast to other Russian cities, air strikes on Sochi, which is 400 kilometers (250 miles) southeast of the Ukrainian border, are comparatively uncommon. However, two people were killed by Ukrainian drone strikes in the area late last month, according to local authorities.

The fire has not received any comments from Ukrainian officials.

In response to the rise in Russian attacks on its territory in recent weeks, which have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, Kyiv has warned that it will increase its air strikes against Russia.

Russia launched 76 attack drones and seven missiles at Ukraine overnight, according to Ukraine’s air force, and hit eight locations throughout the country on Telegram on Sunday. One missile and 60 of the drones were destroyed, according to Ukraine’s air defense units.

Regional governors reported that in the first 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, at least three people were killed and more than 12 were hurt in Russian attacks in the front-line regions of Zaporizhia and Kherson.

At least seven people were hurt in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv as a result of a Russian missile strike, according to the regional governor, who also destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and civilian infrastructure.

The Mykolaiv region was on the front lines at the start of the war, where artillery strikes and aerial attacks were frequent. Drones and missiles have remained a constant threat there even after Russian forces were forced back in late 2022.

No injuries or damage have been reported from Russia’s overnight launch of a short-lived missile attack on Kyiv.

If no agreement is reached by early September, Trump, the president of the United States, declared in July that he would impose “severe tariffs” on Russia. Trump promised to give Putin 10 to 12 days last week, which means he wants to see progress in peace efforts by Thursday through Saturday.

The Kremlin has so far rejected the idea of an end to the Ukrainian conflict.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, stated last week that he wanted peace, but that his demands for a “unchanged” Moscow’s military offensive had not been met.
