Sheff Wed show ‘togetherness’ amid protests at owner

Although the relationship between Sheffield Wednesday supporters and Dejphon Chansiri’s owner may be strained, Henrik Pedersen’s team produced a Carabao Cup upset against Leeds on Tuesday, giving them a sense of pride.

Following a summer of unrest, which included the club paying wages on time for a third consecutive month and facing sanctions from the EFL, Wednesday fans have been venting their dissatisfaction with the Thai businessman.

During the opening match of the championship against Leicester on Wednesday, there were ostensible protests against Chansiri, and that trend continued into the Leeds game as thousands of supporters decided to abstain.

Instead, many people opted to watch the action at watch-a-longs in bars and clubs, where a young Wednesday side put on a show full of guts and desire.

The Owls faced Leeds, where they faced a side with four 20-year-olds, five teenagers, and an average age of 21 as a result of their difficult summer, which saw them start the season with just 12 senior players.

However, Sheffield Wednesday won 3-0 on penalties after drawing 1-1 against their Premier League rivals, showing no signs of a class division.

After the game, Pedersen addressed Sky Sports, “Really, really proud.” I’m just proud of how they managed to stay together.

Nobody could see how much they had stepped up in a game like this, and how much we respect our boys.

The fans were also able to feel the togetherness for ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who covered the game for BBC Radio 5 live.

He said, “There’s an incredible story going on at the club right now.”

Many supporters chose to stay away from the stadium and instead sided with those who did.

They finally decided against the club’s management and owner.

Fans are concerned that Chansiri’s sale of the Owls will not occur soon, despite the fact that Owls fans are hoping for it.

In response, they have begun protesting ownership in public and vocal terms.

A banner emblazoned in their opening Championship game against Leicester was displayed, and fans recently staged a mock funeral procession with a coffin, which they claimed represented “the death of the football club.”

On their website, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust urged fans to boycott the game and instead donate the tickets to Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.

Before the kick-off, BBC Radio 5 live commentator Alistair Bruce-Ball said, “I can’t imagine many Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds games that have ever been played in a Hillsborough stadium like this.”

“It was because I didn’t go to this game,” the protester said.

“I’m pretty sure that the home support may far outnumber the Leeds fans, who are about 3, 000 of them.”

Many fans have been “torn” by the protest, according to Rob Staton, a reporter for BBC Radio Sheffield.

Fans can’t attend the away games if they don’t come, he said, and that’s where the bigger protests are taking place, he continued.

Terry Wogan’s son furiously hits out as family home has ‘no interest’ on market

Mark, the youngest son of Sir Terry Wogan’s son, has criticised Chancellor Rachel Reeves, alleging that she is “killing off the housing market” because he can’t sell his parents’ £3.75 million mansion.

The former family home of beloved broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has gone on the market after the death of his wife, Lady Helen, in November 2024. However, the sprawling mansion hasn’t been viewed by anyone since it went up for sale.

Sir Terry and Lady Helen, who bought the seven-bedroom Edwardian property in 1975, raised their children there during Terry’s long tenure on BBC Radio 2’s Wake Up to Wogan, which ran from 1993 to 2009.

The 6, 500-square-foot residence in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, has five reception rooms, a utility room, a pantry, ensuite bedrooms, and stunning views of Windsor Castle. It is currently listed for £3.75 million. A swimming pool and tennis court are also located in the landscaped gardens, and Paddington Station is only a 30-minute walk away thanks to fast rail connections.

The kitchen was essential because we are a close family, according to Terry’s son Mark, 51, who reflected on the home and its memories. The cook was excellent. Growing up in a family was a big part of eating and talking around a table.

In the summertime, he continued, “We’d also have some lovely long lunches on the terrace with views of my mother’s beloved garden. It has beauty to it. We’re going to miss the house a lot. However, it will make a great place for a family to live.

Despite the incredible home being for sale, Wogan’s mansion hasn’t even had one viewer since listing, much to the detriment of his son Mark and his siblings.

Mark attributed “killing off the housing market” to Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her tax plans in an interview about the state of the property market.

Mark, the youngest son of Sir Terry Wogan’s late father, opened up about the family’s struggle to sell their childhood home following his mother’s passing in 2024 during an interview with Mike Graham on Plank of the Week on TalkTV.

“You make a fascinating claim that Rachel Reeves is abusing the housing market,” you say. He claimed that she already had it killed.

You’d think someone would come round, even just out of interest, and say, “Oh, I’d quite like to go round and see Terry Wogan’s house,” Mark claimed.

No one has seen it, though. Not a single person, not even one. That demonstrates how illiterate the economy is. He continued, “I’ll show you around,” calling the property “a steal.”

In January 2016, Children In Need host Wogan passed away from cancer at the age of 77. His wife Helen passed away nine years later, leaving behind a £5 million estate.

Each of her five grandchildren will be able to inherit £100,000 trusts when they turn 25. The three surviving children divided their wealth and belongings among them.

Vanessa, the couple’s first child, died from a heart condition shortly after her birth in 1966, putting her and her husband through a difficult marriage.

The Mirror has approached Rachel Reeves’ representatives for comment on this story.

Pafos, Bodo/Glimt join Kairat among CL debutants

After advancing through the qualifying play-offs, Pafos FC of Cyprus and Bodo/Glimt of Norway will make their Champions League debuts this year.

Pafos, which was only established 11 years ago, drew 1-1 draw with Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday to seal a 3-2 win on aggregate against them.

Bodo/Glimt also advanced to the league stage with a 6-2 overall victory over Sturm Graz, beating them 2-1 in the second leg.

The duo’s first appearances in Europe’s top-tier competition will be Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan, who stunned Celtic on penalties and Belgian champion Union Saint-Gilloise.

On July 22, Pafos defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dynamo Kyiv in the second qualifying round to advance to the play-offs.

Brazilian winger Jaja scored an 89th-minute equalizer in the Limassol return after Mirko Ivanic had given Red Star a 1-0 lead from the opening match.

The Cypriot champions, who recently signed 38-year-old former defender David Luiz from Chelsea and Arsenal, will join Apoel and Anorthosis Famagusta as the third club to play in the Champions League.

Bodo/Glimt, the four-time champions of Norway, are the first club to qualify for the national championship since Rosenborg in the 2007-08 season.

The club, which is housed at the 8, 270-seat Aspmyra Stadion, is located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. They made headlines last year when they reached the Europa League semi-finals, where they were defeated by Tottenham, who had previously been champions.

The Kazakh side is the second to qualify for the competition after Astana in 2015-16, who defeated Scottish champions Celtic in a shootout in both ties.

Chelsea traveled 3,600 miles to Almaty last year to take on Astana in the Uefa Conference League, making it one of the most challenging trips for Kairat’s European opponents.

Donald Trump ends Taylor Swift feud after Travis Kelce engagement

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s congratulations messages have been directed by President Donald Trump since the couple’s announcement on Tuesday that they are engaged.

After Taylor Swift’s engagement, Donald Trump appears to have ended their feud. After dating for two years, the American pop princess revealed on social media that Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, had proposed to her.

Fans had been making rumors about Taylor and Travis’ relationship in recent weeks, with some claiming that they had secretly tied the knot at the end of July. However, the couple confirmed the news in a joint post today, which featured a photo of Travis and the Bad Blood singer.

Captioning their post, the happy couple penned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” alongside a stick of dynamite emoji. Swift, who has 280 million Instagram followers, also posted a heart on her Instagram story with her song So High School from the anthology version of the album The Tortured Poets Department, which is said to have been written about her fiancé, playing in the background.

In one snap, Taylor is seen crying as she hugged her now fiancée. Travis gets down on one knee, surrounded by stunning flowers in a garden. Looking emotional, another snap shows the couple posing for the camera, with Travis resting his arms around Taylor’s waist while she cradles his face as they gaze lovingly at one another. Her engagement ring features one large diamond, with the gold band resting on her finger as it glistens under the sun.

Now, President Donald Trump, who has never minced his words about Taylor, appears to have decided to end their long-running feud. During a cabinet meeting, a reporter asked the president about the news. Trump replied: “Well, I wish them a lot of luck, I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

Taylor has been criticized by the former reality star over the years, and she wrote, “I HATE Taylor Swift” on Truth Social last year! after she supported Kamala Harris, a former vice president. Has anyone noticed that Taylor Swift is no longer hot since I said, “I HATE Taylor Swift” earlier this year?

He isn’t the only famous person to express a happy birthday to Travis and Taylor, though. Patrick Mahomes, Travis’ teammate, shared the news along with three love heart emojis on his Instagram story. Brittany Mahomes also shared the news, saying, “Two of the most sincere people meet and fall in love. I’m so happy for these two.

Meanwhile, the official Instagram account for Prince William and Princess Kate had “liked” Taylor and Travis’ post. But they’re not the only royals, William’s sister-in-law, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had also liked the post.

Singer Avril Lavigne, who has previously performed on stage with Swift, also sent “huge congratulations” to the singer and Kelce in a post on her Instagram story. The Kansas City Chiefs also congratulated the couple in a post on X, formerlly known as Twitter which read: “Today is a fairytale.

“Congrats to Travis and Taylor – we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family.” The NFL’s official Instagram account also congratulated the pair twice, first sharing a video compilation of Swift attending games with the words “what a journey”, while another post showed a clip of the pair celebrating Kelce’s 2024 Super Bowl win.

Taylor’s engagement ring is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut, and Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery created her jewelry.

Travis and Taylor’s romance first emerged in July of 2023 when Travis traveled to Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium to watch a Chiefs game while Taylor’s iconic Eras Tour was rumbling. He later shared the details of his real motivations for attending the gig on his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce.

The American football player had intended to use a friendship bracelet to give Taylor his phone number, but it turns out she avoids speaking during and after performances to protect her vocal cords. He had a second chance, though, when Taylor learned of his daring move.

The following September, Travis was quizzed about his relationship with Taylor. Dodging the personal talk during an NFL + interview, he stated: “I’m not gonna talk about my personal life,” as Andrew Siciliano probed for details. However, the buzz only intensified when Taylor showed up to cheer on Travis at his 24 September game, accompanied by none other than his mum, Donna Kelce, causing a stir among media and fans.

The pair’s bond was still present in November, especially when Travis flew to Buenos Aires to attend Taylor’s 11 November Eras Tour performance. Taylor’s fans swooned when she changed the lyrics to “Karma” to nod directly to her beau’s career. “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming right home to me.

Travis openly expressed his admiration for Taylor in an honest conversation with The Wall Street Journal: “Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f*cking mind-blowing. Every day I learn.

Brazilian high court requests increased security for Bolsonaro

While former president Jair Bolsonaro is undergoing house arrest, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has asked the police to bolster security around his residence.

Moraes sent a notice to the police on Monday urging him to have full-time surveillance close to Bolsonaro’s home to check whether he was breaking the restraining orders.

After Moraes determined that the troubled former president had violated the court’s pre-emptive measures that limited his use of social media and political messaging, he was placed under house arrest earlier this month.

Police reported last week that they had discovered a draft of Bolsonaro’s asylum request on his phone. According to police, it was last edited in 2024.

Bolsonaro’s legal team claimed that the document merely provided proof that the former president was a risk of emigration.

On September 2, Bolsonaro’s trial is scheduled to begin. If Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the former president, is found guilty of plotting to overthrow his democratically elected successor as president in 2022, he could spend up to 40 years in prison.

Donald Trump’s administration has been at a loss for his former ally, who claims there is a witch-hunt against him.

Potter calls for unity after Bowen’s fan row

Images courtesy of Getty

After Jarrod Bowen apologized for trying to confront fans, West Ham manager Graham Potter acknowledged the Hammers are “in pain” but called for unity.

Following the Hammers’ 3-2 EFL Cup defeat at Molineux, the forward was held down by stewards at the final whistle, with late goals leaving them with a third-straight defeat.

Bowen had reached out to the traveling fans to salute them, only to react as something appeared to be said in the stands.

The winless Hammers were humiliated in defeat at the start of a season that was already turbulent after a late Jorgen Strand Larsen brace.

Potter once said, “We’re all in pain, so we need everyone to help. We need everyone’s support. We need to move on to the next game.”

We all suffer, we all do, and we all are suffering right now. No one is happy, I can assure you.

“I don’t know what was said or anything,” I said. Our supporters have been fantastic, but the results we’ve had hurt them, and Jarrod obviously cares about the team and the club. Simply put, it’s a discussion between those who care.

Everyone is hurting because we didn’t get the desired outcomes, which is right. Jorod has served the club well and was a fantastic captain.

Since Julen Lopetegui replaced him in January, Potter has won just five of his 22 games in charge of Molineux, adding to the pressure on him.

The Hammers travel to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday after conceding 11 goals in three defeats, including last week’s 5-1 thrashing by Chelsea.

The away supporters applauded Bowen, who had the closest contact with them before becoming angry. He apologized for his actions 45 minutes after the final whistle, though.

The England international apologized to the fans on Instagram for tonight’s reaction.

I’m a passionate person who fights every time I play on the field. However, I must set a better example to let fans know how much I adore both this club and you.
