Despite having a two-set lead over the world number one on Monday, Jannik Sinner managed to make it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon in an odd way as Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire.
When Dimitrov injured himself serving an ace, Sinner was losing 3-6, 5-7, and 2-2 on Centre Court because he had been suffering from a right elbow injury.
As Sinner rushed to his aid, the Bulgarian fell to the court, grabbed his pectoral muscle, and yelled out in pain.
Before going back to the court to tell Sinner he was pulling out, Dimitrov was being treated for a broken leg. The Italian wrapped him in a hug as the Bulgarian wiped away tears.

Dimitrov, 34, has suffered from injuries most of his career’s latter years, and he also missed out on Wimbledon last year when he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round.
Since he is such a talented player, Sinner said, “Honestly, I have no idea what to say.”
“I believe we saw this today, everyone.” In the past few years, he has had such bad luck. We both have amazing skills, and I also have a good friend. We also have a great off-court friendship.
Since seeing him in this position, let’s face it: If there was a chance for him to win the following round, he would deserve it. I mainly hope he has a quick recovery, though.

If the three-time Grand Slam champion recovers from a fitness issue, Sinner will now face American 10th seed Ben Shelton in the final eight.
Sinner has only advanced to the 2023 semi-finals, but he has never reached the Wimbledon final.
In a five-set epic against Carlos Alcaraz in June, he won the title at the US and Australian Opens, and he has since reached the final three Grand Slam finals.
Footballer Andy Carroll is reportedly working to save his relationship with Lou Teasdale after a series of alcohol-related arguments during a Mykonos
Andy Carroll takes drastic step to save Lou Teasdale romance after public row
Andy Carroll is reportedly working to repair his relationship with Lou Teasdale after a series of alcohol-fuelled arguments led to police involvement during a recent trip to Mykonos. The former England footballer, 36, is said to be blaming stress from his £20 million divorce from ex-wife Billi Mucklow for his behaviour.
Carroll and Teasdale, 41, began dating in 2024 after his quiet split from Billi. But last month, their relationship hit turbulence while vacationing in Greece. Carroll was reportedly questioned twice by police, once at a busy restaurant and again at a boutique hotel, over disputes with Teasdale.
A staff member at the restaurant exclusively told The Mirror at the time: “We recognised him as the footballer Andy Carroll immediately. He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.”

While police spoke to Carroll at the scene and later escorted him to a local station, no arrests were made. Another source claimed: “After the restaurant episode, there was another incident at the hotel. This time, the footballer went to the police station. We know the woman stayed somewhere else that night.”
A British tourist alleged Carroll shouted at Teasdale: “I’m done with us”, describing him as “very drunk” during the incident.
In response, the couple issued a joint statement downplaying the events: “Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there.”

“We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to ‘look after’ us. As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested, and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together.”
Following the holiday, Carroll reportedly vowed to change. Determined to prove himself, he stayed sober at Glastonbury, where the couple celebrated their anniversary at a £38,000 luxury pop-up hotel.
An insider told The Sun: “After everything that’s gone on lately, Andy wanted to make sure their first anniversary was special. Lou’s totally teetotal so he thought it would be nice for them to spend the weekend together sober. Andy adores Lou and would do anything for her.

“He wanted to prove to her that she means more to him than having a drink and to be able to make up for what happened on their holiday so he didn’t have any alcohol at Glastonbury.
“He knows she deserves better and wants to put any bad behaviour in the past to bed. Andy is convinced Lou is the one for him and is determined to get his act together and propose.”
The couple were later seen at the festival looking close and relaxed. In exclusive pictures taken by The Mirror, the pair seemed happier than ever as they strolled around Worthy Farm one year after meeting there for the first time.

Residents and host communities in Kaduna State are being warned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) not to encroach on or construct structures under transmission lines.
Additionally, the Commission issued a warning against vandalizing power infrastructure, stating that it would harm people’s lives and undermine efforts to guarantee a reliable electricity supply throughout the country.
TCN spoke with traditional rulers, security guards, youth leaders, and other key figures regarding the dangers of erecting structures under high-voltage transmission lines and the growing threat of infrastructure vandalism at a sensitization forum in Kaduna.

The TCN’s renewed community engagement strategy aimed at protecting national power assets included the awareness drive, which was in line with NEC directives.
The General Manager, Kaduna Region, Engr. made his welcome remarks. The company, which includes the installation of new transformers and the upgrading of crucial transmission facilities, is currently carrying out major power expansion projects across Kaduna State, according to Nasir Mansur-Fada.
He expressed concern, however, that transmission corridors’ ongoing vandalism and illegal construction are still preventing the company’s growth.
“Our goal is to provide an improved and uninterrupted power supply, but it is impossible to do so if vandals and encroachments constantly threaten our infrastructure.” According to Mansur-Fada, the community has a crucial role to play.
He noted that maintenance tasks frequently get hampered by construction sites built directly beneath transmission lines, which pose serious dangers to both people and equipment.
Kenneth John, the senior manager of the department’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), rebuked residents for their “no-go zones” for residential or commercial activity.
After Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign, Milan AC manager Massimiliano Allegri announces Luka Modric’s arrival in Italy.
After the US championship match, the Croatian captain, 39, announced in May that he would leave his 13-year spell with the Spanish giants.
Allegri, who replaced Sergio Conceicao as Milan manager for a second time, confirmed the news of his new club.
In his first press conference, the 57-year-old stated that Modric would arrive in August. He is a remarkable player.
Real won the Club World Cup with a 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, which set up Wednesday’s semifinal against Paris St-Germain, and Modric has made five substitute appearances there.
Since moving from Tottenham in 2012, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has won 28 titles, including six Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.
Tijjani Reijnders, Milan sold to Manchester City last month, and left-back Theo Hernandez has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
However, Allegri, who won the first four years as coach of the Rossoneri to capture the Serie A title in 2011, is optimistic that his squad will include forward Rafael Leao and goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Maignan, a France keeper, was a target of Chelsea’s interest earlier this summer, but they did not reach the £25 million valuation.
