Freakier Friday: Lindsay Lohan ageless as she steals the show at sequel’s London premiere

Over 20 years after the first production, the London premiere of Freakier Friday saw the addition of famous faces.

The London premiere of Freakier Friday featured the stars in style on Thursday evening. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan were back together and ready for a new beginning more than 20 years after the critically acclaimed first film.

On Friday, August 8, the sequel to the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday will be released in theaters. It has a four-way switch, which makes it bigger and freakier this time.

Lindsay Lohan, who plays Tess Coleman once more, ends up switching bodies with her daughter, who will soon be her step-granddaughter, while Jamie, who plays her once more, ends up playing her.

The show’s biggest stars gathered in London for the fist sneak peek as fans awaited the most recent release. In Leicester Square, the heart of the English capital’s cinema district, celebrities from Hollywood rolled up the red carpet.

Lindsay paired her fitted dress with her striking all-red attire with the purple carpet. The likes of Chad Michael Murray were also seen strutting his stuff in a casual black suit, and both of them looked stunning as they posed for the cameras.

A beloved telly star left diners and workers gobsmacked after making an unexpected appearance at a Liverpool eatery yesterday. Staff at Papillon on Hope Street couldn’t believe their eyes when James Nesbitt strolled through the doors.

The Irish actor has starred in numerous popular programmes throughout his illustrious career including Cold Feet, Bloodlands and The Missing.

He had travelled to Merseyside this week to collect a fellowship from Sir Paul McCartney at a Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) graduation ceremony on Tuesday (July 29) but managed to squeeze in a visit to the restaurant for his lunch the following day.

James happily snapped photos with employees and fellow diners, reports the Liverpool Echo. He and two companions enjoyed a gambas pil pil, buttermilk barbecue chicken tenders and a pepperoni pizza, accompanied by two bottles of Viognier and a bottle of premium Ripasso.

The total bill was about £140. Leigh Elliott, a 33-year-old West Derby resident who works as Papillon’s social media manager, described James’ experience as “fabulous.” He was wonderful and friendly to the guests.

He continued to speak to people who recognized him throughout his absence. He claimed that the food and wine were outstanding. Even though he was purchasing premium wine, he liked the atmosphere and expressed his appreciation for the reasonableness of the prices.

“He was shocked by the quality of the bill. One of the chefs claimed to have previously been here, so it might have been his second time. We were undoubtedly surprised to see him because he had just arrived as a walk-in. This wasn’t a scheduled visit.

On Tuesday, James praised the LIPA students’ efforts, receiving awards along with James Bond filmmaker Sir Sam Mendes, performer Adrian Lester, and indie band The Wombats, who were LIPA members.

James remarked during the ceremony at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, “I’m so honored to accept this award from LIPA. When I went to a group of students a few months ago to speak with them, I was immediately struck by how incredible of a place to learn, with inspiring instructors and stunning facilities that clearly foster creativity, innovation, passion, authenticity, collaboration, and joy.

I had the honor of seeing a brief excerpt from a fresh take on Oklahoma after my talk. It was genuinely remarkable, breathtaking, and courageous in some ways.

During James’ visit, LIPA pupils’ parents also had dinner at Papillon. We had two customers, with two daughters who had just graduated from LIPA, Leigh said. She was previously enthralled by the fact that he had spoken to them. He spoke to them once more when he entered. Simply put, he appeared very nice.

Over the past few months, Papillon, a well-known establishment on one of Liverpool’s most iconic streets, has attracted more attention.

This surge in popularity is due to the restaurant being featured in several scenes of the hit BBC crime drama This City Is Ours, starring James Nelson-Joyce as Michael Kavanagh and Hannah Onslow and Diana Williams.

Owner of Papillon Leigh said he was delighted: “It’s brilliant. Numerous people have contacted The City Is Ours to request a seat in the seat where Michael and Diana sat since the movie was released. They are visiting it for the first time, despite knowing it is on their doorstep.

“We have received a lot of publicity. Recently, Pepsi collaborated with an influential person. Because they ordered one while they were here, we’ve received much more burger orders.

On Tuesday, Go Live Theatre’s CEO and accessibility advocate Sita McIntosh were two of those honored by Sir Paul: director Gay Linvill, known for directing episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

China flooding kills dozens, including 31 trapped at elderly care home

Authorities claim that dozens of elderly residents were trapped in a care facility in a suburb of Beijing as a result of torrential rains and flooding that have swept northern China.

The Taishitun Town Elderly Care Center in the Miyun district, one of the hardest hit areas of Beijing this week, was the site of 31 fatalities, according to officials on Thursday.

The Communist Party secretary for Miyun, Yu Weiguo, expressed his condolences and said it was a “bitter lesson,” noting that the senior center had been in the town’s center for a while and was safe.

According to Yu, “This demonstrated that our contingency plan had shortcomings and that our understanding of extreme weather was insufficient.”

69 people were residing in the care center, of which 55 were functionally disabled. According to local media outlet Caixin, the facility was perched on low-lying ground close to a river that had flooded after the unusually heavy rains.

Torrential rains started a week ago, peaking on Monday in Beijing and the provinces that surround it.

Rainfall totaling up to 573.5mm (22.6 inches) fell in the hilly Miyun district in the northeast of the capital in just a few days. In Beijing, the average annual precipitation is around 600mm (23. 6 inches).

The largest reservoir in northern China, the Miyun Reservoir, experienced record-breaking water levels during the rains.

When the disaster struck, Yu said, the Qingshui River, a normal small stream that flows through Taishitun and enters the reservoir, was flowing at 1,500 times its normal volume.

Caixin reported that the 87-year-old mother of a Beijing resident was able to leave the elder care facility in Miyun.

The woman’s daughter cited her mother’s roommate’s inability to escape and drown, noting that she managed to climb onto the windowsill.

Taus of thousands of people have been affected.

At least 44 people have died in Beijing over the past week, according to Beijing’s deputy mayor Xia Linmao at a news conference on Thursday.

More than 24 000 homes, 242 bridges, and 756 kilometers of roads have been damaged as a result of the rain and flooding in the capital, according to Xia, citing preliminary data.

Authorities in the Hebei province that are neighboring announced an additional eight deaths on Thursday and 16 deaths overall this week.

According to authorities, Beijing and Hebei province have at least 31 missing people.

Authorities in northern Shanxi province reported on Wednesday evening that 10 people had died after a minibus carrying farm workers had sat in heavy rain.

Three days after the bus went missing, a statement from the city government stated that four people were still missing as the rescue effort progressed.

After a heavy downpour in the Miyun district, a man rides his car past debris along a flooded street.

AIG Women’s Open 2025 – first round leaderboard

-3 Chun (Kor), Rhodes (Eng), Saigo (Jpn), -2 Harry (Wal), Korda (US), M Lee (Aus), Thitikul (Tha), E Woad (Eng), + 1 Hull (Eng), Ko (NZ), + 2 Vu (US)

Lottie Woad’s first round was level-par, falling five shots short of the Japanese duo Eri Okayama and Rio Takeda’s Women’s Open lead.

After winning two events and hardly missing out on a major title in July, England’s Woad emerged as favorite at Royal Porthcawl.

The 21-year-old made lengthy birdie putts at the first and sixth holes to earn level par in her second tournament since turning professional.

Woad birdied the final four feet to make it to the 14th, and Woad birdied the final two to score a 72.

However, she struggled to maintain her momentum in her opening round, so her tournament chances were irretrievably hampered by some strong par-for-par putting and bogeys.

Woad responded, “It was a little mixed. “I’m glad I hung in there because it’s one of those rounds that could have taken my place.”

At the links course in south Wales, when short bursts of rain punctured longer periods of sunshine, the overall score was good on a cloudy day.

In her round of 67, Okayama, who is playing for the first time since 2018, made six birdies and did not drop a shot after bogeying at the first hole.

At three under par, England’s Mimi Rhodes leads the group of players in terms of lead.

She said, “I had to really pay attention to the tee shots, pick smaller targets, and never get too excited.”

I was just trying to soak up the experience and have a lot of fun while staying in the moment.

Among the field’s 144 players who made strong starts was two from Wales.

Darcey Harry, a member of Porthcawl, finished the match two under, and Lydia Hall, who made it through qualifying to secure her spot, carded a level-par 72.

Harry said, “I didn’t believe I would come off with two under par today.” Although I’m not entirely sure why; I was just incredibly anxious, it was great out there.

Lydia Ko, the reigning champion, shot a one-over-par 74, while Lilia Vu, the 2023 winner, recovered from a four-game bogeys on the front nine to post a two-over-par 74.

Why is Woad the subject of such intense attention?

PA Media
After a truly amazing month, Woad is undoubtedly the center of attention at Royal Porthcawl.

Woad, who was born in Surrey, won the Irish Open in July, and then tied for third place in the Evian Championship, which is the fourth of five women’s majors held annually.

She was unable to collect a total of close to £500, 000 in prize money from those two tournaments because she was playing as an amateur.

Before last week’s Scottish Open, which she would eventually win, she turned professional and passed the LPGA Tour eligibility test.

Following her victory at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur and placing in third place overall in the St Andrews Women’s Open last year, she was also in a tie for 10th place.

After round one, she is not out of contention, but she still needs to work to make it halfway.

rollercoaster round in Hull

Charley HullPA Media

The second-place finisher in 2023, Hull, had a topsy-turvy opening round.

The 29-year-old was three over par after three holes in a challenging opening stretch of the course when a virus forced him to withdraw from the Evian Championship earlier this month.

After the turn, she returned with five birdies in six holes to put her at two under, but four more homer bogeys prevented her from gaining momentum, so she signed for a 73 after the final birdie.

Jeeno Thitikul and Minjee Lee, Hull’s playing partners, finished tied for third.
