Golden Boot winner to substitute – England’s Mead on role ‘shift’

Beth Mead, an England international, has a very different style from the one she did three years ago.

Mead, who was named the tournament’s player of the year and the Golden Boot winner, was a key part in England’s 2022 success.

Her astonishing achievements were capped off by the tournament’s six goals and five assists, the most in the series.

It won numerous awards, including being named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and placing second in the Ballon d’Or and Uefa Player of the Year categories.

However, Mead, 30, has only scored once in the 6-1 Group D victory over Wales in Switzerland.

She has adapted to playing one of Sarina Wiegman’s “finishers,” a phrase the squad use to emphasize the importance of the substitutes.

Arsenal’s Mead told BBC Sport, “You have to be ready to step into the moment.”

You must be prepared to enter a position against Sweden that you might not want to or don’t typically play, and that’s what made me different.

I eventually started out as a number six in the middle of the field, and then I switched to number 10; I enjoyed the experience.

I enjoy playing on the pitch, and I enjoy doing what I can do for the team, but these are the things you need to be able to do as a player.

You must be willing to take risks and make the necessary adjustments for the team and the greater good.

With three goals in Switzerland, England’s substitutes advanced to the semi-finals.

More than any other country has scored four result-altering goals since Euro 2022, all in knockout competitions.

Along with Mead, it is up to him to keep adding squad depth to Wiegman.

When you realize you’re not starting and you’re playing well or whatever, “I think that’s what makes us stand out as a team,” she continued.

The mutual respect for one another, the willingness to work together to improve one another, and the desire to make each other feel like we can solve problems.

Poirier loses to Holloway in UFC 318 retirement fight

Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier’s first two fights may not have been the same as the first two, but their fifth-round fight ended up being their most thrilling final 15 seconds.

At UFC 318 in New Orleans on Saturday night, lightweight Holloway won by unanimous decision on the three judges’ cards, 48-47, 49-46, 49-46.

In his final mixed martial arts fight against Poirier, Louisiana native Poirier had lost the first two fights before winning.

Holloway, 33, called himself “the baddest man alive, bro.” “Din Poirier, give it up.”

Holloway almost finished Poirier (30-10), but his 36-year-old opponent persisted after a first-round knockdown from the Hawaiian.

By the fourth round, Poirier was exhausted, but he acknowledged after the fight that he was impressed by Holloway’s consistency and strength. In significant head strikes, Holloway outlanded Poirier 113-99, according to the broadcast’s final stats.

Poirier described Holloway as “I thought he was going to be in here cracking a little harder, which he was.” When he is in front of you, this guy is difficult to deal with. He looks good. He is skilled. He moves quickly. He is the champion of BMF. Max, man, is everything I have to respect. One of the good guys is him.

Holloway successfully defends the “BMF” title in his first fight since winning it at UFC 300 in April. Since it is not associated with a division and has only been used sparingly since November 2019, there is no telling what direction the belt will go.

Paulo Costa of Brazil resurrected the winning column in earlier matches by winning 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. Kopylov (14-4) has won his last two fights while Costa (15-4) is still in the middleweight title race.

Despite a late rally from Holland, which almost ended him in the third round with strikes, welterweight Daniel Rodriguez outshined Kevin Holland in the following two fights. The cards read 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, as Holland (28-14) was another betting favourite at the expense of Rodriguez (20-5).

With identical 29-28 scores, Patricio Pitbull won his first UFC fight to claim the title of lightweight champion over featherweight Dan Ige. Ige, who had lost two of his previous three fights, felt that Pitbull’s wrestling was too much for him. In a previous fight, Ige (19-10) won on the same card at UFC 314, Pittillo (32-7) last fought in April.

Timeless supermodel Eva Herzigova barely looks a day older than her Wonderbra hey day more than two decades on.

Now 51, the Czech catwalk queen famously fronted the iconic “Hello Boys” campaign, which saw the star featured on billboards across the country. Her traffic-stopping advertisement was so eye catching it was rumoured to have caused accidents due to drivers being distracted and propelled her to international fame more than 25 years ago.

Eva hasn’t changed much – last year, she donned a lacy black push-up bra once more last year for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, adding a thong and a sheer coverup to dazzling effect.

When the model won a modeling competition in Prague and traveled to Paris, the fashion capital, at the age of 16, the star won. She played Marilyn Monroe in a Guess advertisement for the jeans company when she was 21 years old, and she later made an appearance in the Wonderbra campaign.

The model was accompanied by the message “Hello Boys” as she gazed down at her Wonderbra-enhanced breasts in the iconic ad. Fans adored the campaign, which according to a study by the University of Michigan Business School, managed to sell one push-up bra every 15 seconds in the United States between 1994 and 1995 despite some critics who thought it was incredibly sexist.

Eva was promoted to the same supermodel category as Kate Moss, Kate Moss, and Christy Turlington, and she eventually succeeded in pretty much everything in fashion.

In the 1990s, Eva Herzigova was one of the most well-known models.

The Czech graced the covers of numerous magazines, including Playboy and Sports Illustrated, and became Victoria’s Secret. Eva also appeared in the Girl Panic! music video, which MTV censored because it was too provocative.

The model continues to front magazine covers like W and model for brands including Givenchy, with photos on her Instagram showcasing her ageless looks.

She also shares some unusual snaps off-duty, such as those of photos of her traveling in the desert and a candid photo of her sticking her tongue out because of “silly birthday girl.”

Eva and Gregorio Marsiaj, an Italian businessman, have three children today. Eva has started a campaign for slow, ethical fashion because the family resides in Turin, Italy.

She told El Pais magazine last year: “I don’t know why brands don’t slow down and go back to doing two collections a year like they used to. Now, they all do a pre-collection, a cruise collection, a capsule collection… That involves moving large production teams and generates an enormous amount of waste.”

Lead singer Matty Healy didn’t attend the ceremony, even though George’s bandmates Ross and Adam were present. Even the newlyweds had a stroll to Hackney Town Hall.

Charli XCX and The 1975 drummer George Daniel have married, but one bandmate was nowhere to be seen on their big day. The pair looked over the moon as they posed outside Hackney Town Hall on Saturday.

Brat queen Charli looked sensational in a white mini-dress, with a heart-shaped neckline, as she held onto her bouquet of flowers while posing for pictures. Their wedding comes just days after George returned to the UK, having been in Ibiza with his bandmates, including Matty Healy, for his stag do.

Amidst reports that the couple would be splashing the cash and inviting dozens of famous faces, the Mirror can reveal that Charli and George tied the knot in front of just 20 of their closest friends and family. Shunning the huge showbiz aspect of their lives, the newly married couple even walked to Hackney Town Hall.

Lead singer Matty Healy didn’t attend the ceremony, even though George’s bandmates Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann were present. Due to their decades of writing, recording, and touring together, which may have surprised some fans.

Matty’s fiance Gabbriette Bechtel, who he starred in, was in LA for the I Know What You Did Last Summer screening. The singer was spotted arriving at the venue on Friday night wearing a leather jacket, a white top, and a red lightning bolt, with blue jeans.

Matty’s ex-girlfriend Gabbriette is scheduled to spend the night with his fiancee in LA because of contractual obligations for her debut film, according to a source close to Matty.

Matty left his car and headed into the event, where he has been since September 2023, in good spirits.

One fan wrote, “She looks so good, she looks so good. She looks so good.” Another phrase: “OMG, shut up, she looks beautiful.” A third person expressed “congratulations, Charli and George.” A fourth person remarked, “Pop royalty just got their crown.” Congratulations to George and Charli”!

Other fans speculated on why Matty wasn’t at the couple’s big day in London. “i hateeeee speculating but I wonder what George thought when Matty said he couldn’t make it to his wedding lmao if it was my best mate I’d have probably never spoken to him anymore but that’s just me,” one penned on Twitter (X).

Another argued, “Apparently that was just the official wedding, and they’re having more of a party wedding soon because there were LOADSSSS of people who weren’t there.”

A third pondered: “Matty probably wanted to be kind to both George and Gabi, so he decided to live in Ibiza instead of the wedding.” A kind man is all I can see here, without a doubt, and that’s all.

One sarcastically remarked, “Ouch, matty absolutely hates charli and george it’s almost like he never called her” and my best friend “on the glasto stage not even a month ago and then cried in george’s arms as the show ended, of course the evil monster gabbriette made them fight and plots on the band’s demise.”

The Mirror has contacted George and Matty’s representatives for comment.

Cork vs. Tipperary hurling final: All-Ireland

Date: Sunday, July 20th, Dublin Throw-in: 15:30

The most important prize in hurling history is being held between Cork and Tipperary on Sunday, as the two teams prepare for the most recent installment of the game.

Cork and Tipperary had their first recorded meeting in 1741 near Rathcormac, County Cork, long before the GAA as we know it.

The fixture would dominate Munster’s final day as two of the hurling’s traditional “big three” vied for provincial honors, which also included Leinster’s Kilkenny, to claim another victory in the All-Ireland championship, Cork finishing second with 30 titles, two ahead of Tipperary in third.

However, Cork have lost four finals since their previous triumph in 2005, and it has been 20 years since Liam MacCarthy last visited the Lee.

The Premier County’s hunger for success is no less raging because they have a proud record to defend having been crowned champions in every decade since the GAA’s founding in 1884, but are still not ready to climb the mountain in the 2020s. However, Tipperary’s wait is significantly shorter with their 28th triumph in the 2019 final.

Both counties have used the “back door” to their advantage since 1997’s introduction of the “back door,” which initially gave the provincial finalist winners of Munster and Leinster a second chance in the All-Ireland series before Tipperary recovered from a Munster final loss to Clare that year to advance to hurling’s biggest day before falling to The Banner once more.

The Rebels won an All-Ireland qualifier between the two in 2014, but championship meetings have since been held outside of their provincial boundaries. Tipp lost in the semi-final, which was won by the Rebels, who had lost in the process.

Some of the best games in hurling have been produced by legends of the sport. Names like Jimmy Doyle, Michael “Babs’ Keating, and Nicholas English do cross the county border, just as they do in Cork, such as Christy Ring, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, Ray Cummins, and Jimmy Barry-Murphy.

In the opposite corner, Tipperary’s McGrath brothers Noel and John will battle it out for their hands on Liam once more, while Cork’s Patrick Horgan is desperate for a first All-Ireland medal to cap an outstanding career.

Messi Double As Miami Bounce Back Against Red Bulls

With two goals, Lionel Messi rediscovered his scoring prowess as Inter Miami came out of a draw to defeat New York 5-1 on Saturday.

Miami fell to FC Cincinnati 3-0 on Wednesday, ending Messi’s hot season with a 3-0 blowout.

However, the Argentinian superstar’s best form came back as Miami dominated in Harrison, New Jersey, to end the match decisively.

After Alexander Hack bundled home a 14th-minute opener to give the hosts a commanding lead, the Red Bulls had threatened to bring about another setback.

However, Messi quickly orchestrated Inter Miami’s recovery from that setback by sending off Jordi Alba’s sublime pass in the 24th minute.

The Spaniard crossed for Telasco Segovia to score the second goal on 27 minutes before Messi and Alba combined for the second goal.

Then, Segovia snuck in his second of the night deep into stoppage time to give Miami a clear lead.

As Miami blew up in the second half, Messi took over.

The Argentine World Cup winner was headed onto the goal in the 60th minute thanks to a majestic through ball from Sergio Busquets, a former Barcelona teammate.

Before tucking away the goalkeeper Carlos Coronel’s goal, Messi took his time and coolly feinted to the wrong foot for a 4-1 lead.

Messi’s second goal came from another Barcelona old boys pairing. When Luis Suarez crossed from the left, Messi sprinted past Coronel with a thumping finish as he controlled on the edge of the six-yard box.
