Oasis traffic chaos as Cardiff hit by road closures for band reunion gigs at Principality Stadium

Oasis will make their return on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 to perform as a group for the first time in 16 years. As with other big events in Cardiff city centre, there will be some major roads closed around the capital in the hours ahead of the concerts

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is set to host two monumental gigs this weekend, with Oasis making a much-anticipated comeback on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5, marking their first group performance in 16 years.

As Cardiff city centre braces for the influx of music fans, significant road closures will be implemented around the capital in preparation for the concerts, which open their doors at 5pm.

For the Oasis concerts, city centre roads will be shut from midday and are expected to reopen at the stroke of midnight. A Cardiff Council spokesperson earlier in June advised: “The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy for these concerts – so please plan ahead – and avoid the congestion in Cardiff by using the park and ride at the car park by the Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village – CF11 0JS.

“For up-to-date traffic information on the motorway and trunk roads, go to the Traffic Wales website, or @TrafficWalesS on Twitter and Facebook.”, reports Wales Online.

Concertgoers are being urged to meticulously plan their journey and arrive in Cardiff early. It’s also important to heed the list of prohibited items, especially the bag policy which disallows large bags, before heading into the city.

What roads will be closed?

From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will be shut due to preparations at gate five and to ensure the safety of queuing fans. A full city centre road closure will be in effect on July 4 and 5, commencing at 12noon and lasting until midnight.

Access to certain areas of the civic centre will be regulated throughout the day, with entry permitted only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks.

Roads impacted include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.

Noel Gallagher has spoken out ahead of playing live shows to Oasis fans. In the Oasis tour programme, he has been explaining why they are loved by music fans, young and old.

He said: “A new generation recognises how Oasis wasn’t manufactured. It was chaotic, and flawed, and not technically brilliant. We were rough and ready guys from a rehearsal room, and people recognised it…

“I didn’t invent anything. I had good taste in music, a cool record collection, I could write a melody simple enough to make it work, and it was 50% inspiration and 50% copying.”

Brighton have signed French defender Olivier Boscagli following his departure from PSV Eindhoven.

The 27-year-old, who can play as left-back or centre-back, has signed a five-year contract with the south-coast club.

“We’re delighted to welcome Olivier to Brighton. He has got a lot of experience with PSV and we like his versatility,” said head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

“He can play in several positions and we feel it is important to have these players in our squad. We are looking forward to working with him.

The former France Under-21 international made 204 appearances for PSV after joining from Nice in 2019.

Boscagli joins forward Charalampos Kostoulas, wingers Tommy Watson and Yoon Doyoung and defender Diego Coppola in the summer arrivals at Brighton, who finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

Loose Women’s Sunetra Sarker ‘unable to walk’ after freak accident

Loose Women panelists reacted to the news that co-star Sunetra Sarker has injured both of her ankles after she shared her experience on the ITV show this afternoon

A Loose Women panelist revealed that she’s struggling to walk after a set of accidents recently. Sunetra Sarker, 52, opened up to her colleagues earlier about injuring both of her ankles, including sharing that she had been in “agony”.

Sunetra, 52 – known for her acting roles on Casualty and Ackley Bridge – spoke about her health on the ITV show this afternoon. She was joined on the panel today by Charlene White, 45, Janet Street-Porter, 78, and Jane Moore, 63.

The actor unveiled her latest injury during a segment about “negativity bias”. Charlene teased at one point: “Whether we liked it or not, Sunetra gave us a roll call of doom when she walked in this morning. So, go on, tell everyone!”

Sunetra then revealed that she had sprained her right ankle at home two months ago. She recalled looking forward to being able to walk “properly” again weeks later before spraining her other ankle on her way to physiotherapy.

Following the introduction from Charlene, Sunetra shared with the panel and fans: “Everyone I’m meeting now as soon as they come towards me I’m like ‘get ready for the speech’. Things have been going from bad to worse!”

She continued: “Six weeks ago I sprained my ankle. It was agony. I cannot explain how this hot pain …” Charlene asked her: “How did you sprain that one?”

Sunetra said: “I had a dead leg. I was trying to put my foot in a slipper. It’s nothing showbiz. Sorry, it’s not glamorous. I just was old and I couldn’t get my foot in my slipper.”

She added on the show: “So then I’ve been ‘poor me, poor me’. Strapped up. Everyone who sees me has been like ‘oh you poor thing with your bandage on your leg’.”

Sunetra continued: “On my way to physio for said sprained ankle, six weeks after the injury, I’m thinking ‘I’m nearly gonna be able to walk again properly’. On the way, my flip-flop gets caught under the doormat.”

Jane was seen laughing as Sunetra reacted: “Laughing already at my doom.” She then recalled: “So my flip flop gets caught, I trip, my left leg comes out to save my face from hitting the ground and guess what, sprained left ankle [now].”

Referencing her own character from the BBC medical drama, Sunetra continued: “So, now, Dr Zoe Hanna from Casualty is sitting in casualty for six hours being recognised by everyone [asking questions].” She then described the experience as “awful”.

Charlene noted that footwear was involved in both accidents, teasing: “We need to look at like your shoe game!” Sunetra, who had lifted up one of her crutches to show the audience moments earlier, responded: “Now it’s crutches!”

Jane went on to reveal that she had also laughed when she heard the story backstage prior to the episode being filmed. Jane said: “When she was telling me this morning, she said ‘I was on my way to physio’ and I just started laughing. I was like ‘I’m so sorry I’m laughing but it’s funny’.”

She added: “That is why I think we love … I think it’s a particularly British thing … I think we love negativity because it’s funny. It can be, obviously there’s a large section of negativity that isn’t. But mostly we tell negative stories because there’s a bit of a punchline, they can be quite self-depricating and it makes you laugh.”

Loose Women continues tomorrow from 12.30pm on ITV and ITVX.

Singer-songwriter Monica Martin has described her experience with sight loss as “disorienting and scary”. She opened up about her health just days ago and revealed at the time that she was stuck the UK as a result of the situation.

Monica, who is based in the US, shared that she had ended up in hospital after an “ocular migraine slowly turned into” her left eye “going blind”. She’s said to have been supported by actor Jameela Jamil, 39, and musician James Blake, 36, in A&E whilst in London ahead of a concert last month.

She said on Instagram last week that it had “been one of the scariest times”. Monica announced in the same post that she wouldn’t be able to open for the band Lake Street Dive at the Troubadour back in Los Angeles on June 25.

Monica, who has collaborated on music with the likes of Ben Barnes in recent years, shared a series of photos in the post, including of her sporting an eye patch. One showed her beside couple Jameela and James in a waiting room.

She wrote in her post last Wednesday: “UPDATE: NOT OPENING FOR LAKE STREET DIVE TONIGHT! So alas, I can’t open for the best people/ friends/musicians tonight for a sold out benefit at troubadour which blows a**.

” It’s now been 15 days both colorblind and a black hazy cellophane type feel on the left side and ANYWAY it’s been very disorienting and scary. Most of my little health woes are from me being clumsy as hell and snapping something: an ankle in softball, an ankle from dumb shoes, an ankle from giving a piggyback ride to a much larger person as a display of strength. My ankles are toast btw. This is why I don’t like writing captions omg long ting brev, thank you for letting me be myself. “

Monica continued in her post:” Been one of the scariest times but my best friends are taking care of me and also are hilarious and also after MUCH ADO have met an angel ophthalmologist, Dr. Shaman Dolly, god forbid you ever need to find him, London, I must let you know his name. “

The singer, who performed with James at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on June 20, added:” London show, you were all so sweet and caring to me when and I lost it and wept on stage smdh,]Jameela] came to the stage and literally turned herself into a weighted blanket and held me and told me it’s gonna be ok. No thanks to lexapro btw. “

She added: “I’m on the way to get an MRI in an uber and unsure why no one likes using their car fan in uk/eu. and I’ve gotten ct scans and bloodwork and yada yada literally 7 trips to hospitals now. Anyway. I’m incredibly lucky.

“My heart is heavy waiting on a prognosis, but my a** is heavier, and my resilience is alarming actually, and the lore disrespectfully deepens, and I’m getting the sense more people want to smash when I’m wearing my eyepatch- or, I’m pulling it off. Thank you, London”.

She then thanked pals Jameela and James for getting her “sweets and savouries”. Monica also expressed gratitude to Lake Street Dive for “being the best cuties”, adding that she was being replaced by the band Dawes. She said: “So I’m double p***ed bc I want to see this show real fuggin bad ok bye pulling up to get SCANNED”.

Jameela was among those who reacted to the post last week. Teasing over their experience, the Good Place star wrote in the comments section of her pal Monica’s post: “What a glamorous day in A and E. Snacks were 10/10 tho”.

Monica has yet to post an update on her health on her Instagram grid. Just four days ago though, she was seen sporting an eye patch whilst singing alongside Citizen Papes in a video shared on the platform by the latter artist.
