David Beckham wins planning victory at £6million Cotswold home with neighbours furious

The local council gives a ‘prior determination notification’ so that he can construct a barn for hay and equipment despite earlier protest from neighbours

David Beckham has won his latest battle with neighbours over plans for his rural retreat. Local planners have issued a ‘prior determination notification’ which states that he can construct a barn for hay, straw and agricultural equipment – despite opposition. One exasperated local complained: ‘Why do famous people move to the country… then make silly alterations?’ The England legend was seeking planning permission for the timber-clad structure at the £6m property in the Cotswolds.

Beckham, 50, keeps bees and chickens at his country bolthole which has a giant lake. His representatives asked planners at West Oxfordshire District Council for the right to create an “agricultural storage barn for hay/straw and agricultural equipment”. Angry villager Harriet Jones had told the council in a letter of objection.

She did not name David Beckham but made a reference to ‘famous people’ moving to the country: “This is just the latest in a long line of applications to build new structures on this land, plus a giant lake. Why do famous people move out to the country and then clutter up their land with endless buildings and make silly alterations? It makes no sense.” The plans reveal the building will have a steel frame covered in wood with a metal roof which will measure 10m by 5m. Planners will decide on the merits of the application in the coming weeks. Two years ago, David and his wife Victoria were given planning permission to transform the property near Chipping Norton, which they bought for £6m in 2016.

The pair previously got into hot water with neighbours over developments.

That included a now-withdrawn application to build a second access road into their home.

Roof space in an outbuilding was also to be turned into offices.

Documents reveal the barn has been given the go ahead.

They have also been granted planning permission to construct a kitchen garden and glasshouse so that they could grow their own fruit and vegetables.

The star has just been named as the latest guest editor of a magazine long regarded as the hunting, shooting and fishing set’s house journal.

He follows in the footsteps of the King who has twice guest-edited Country Life.

He filled the role for his 65th birthday in 2013 and his 70th in 2018.

In 2020, the Princess Royal masterminded an issue on her 70th, while the Queen, as Duchess of Cornwall, marked her 75th in 2022.

Beckham is set to be knighted in the King’s birthday honours list on Saturday.

He said he was looking forward to helping to ‘produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family’.

MTV host Ananda Lewis’ heartbreaking regret that haunted her final years

MTV host Ananda Lewis has sadly died after a long fight with breast cancer. She had a heartwrenching regret when it came to her diagnosis

MTV presenter Ananda Lewis spoke candidly about one heartbreaking regret before her death.

The iconic TV personality was best known for her stint as an MTV host during the network’s “veejay” era in the late 1990s. Sadly, on Wednesday, 11 June, it was confirmed that she had tragically passed away after a long fight with breast cancer.

Ananda revealed her ongoing struggle with stage 3 breast cancer in October 2020, two years after being diagnosed. Taking to Instagram with a video, she spoke about her diagnosis and heartbreakingly admitted to having delayed regular mammograms due to her fear of radiation exposure.

In the video, she said: “I would have probably had 3 or 4 mammograms by the time they caught [the breast cancer]. Instead, I have had to have two PET scans so far. Guess how many mammograms worth of radiation a PET scan is worth? 30! So 60 mammograms. You do the math!

“If I had done the mammograms from the time they were recommended, when I turned 40, they would have caught the tumor in my breast years before I caught it through my own breast exam, and they would have caught it at a place where the treatment of it would have been a little easier.”

She captioned the post: “This is tough for me, but if just ONE woman decides to get her mammogram after watching this, what I’m going through will be worth it.”

Women between the ages of 50 and 71, who are registered with a GP, are invited for their NHS breast screening every three years. The NHS shares that the main symptoms of breast cancer in women are:

  • Lump, or swelling, in your breast, chest or armpit
  • Change in the skin of your breast, such as dimpling (may look like orange peel) or redness (may be harder to see on black or brown skin)
  • Change in the size or shape of one or both breasts
  • Nipple discharge (if you are not pregnant or breastfeeding), which may have blood in it
  • Change in the shape or look of your nipple, such as it turning inwards (inverted nipple) or a rash on it (may look like eczema)
  • Pain in your breast or armpit, which does not go away – breast pain that comes and goes is usually not a symptom of breast cancer

In an interview with CNN in 2024, Ananda shared the devastating news that her breast cancer had advanced to stage 4 after she initially refused to undergo a mastectomy as part of her treatment. She explained that they wanted her to have a double mastectomy, but it was something she “was not ready for”.

Instead, Ananda opted to focus on making changes she had control over. The TV star said: “My plan at first was to get out the excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent. I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made. I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way.

“Looking back on that, I go, ‘You know what? Maybe I should have [had a double mastectomy]’. My lymph system really flared up. It was the first time I ever had a conversation with death because I felt like, this is how it is.”

Ananda’s sister, Lakshmi, confirmed that Ananda passed away at 11:35am at her home in Los Angeles, where she was receiving hospice care. In tribute, Lakshmi shared an emotional post on Facebook which read: “She’s free and in His heavenly arms [heart emojis]. Lord, rest her soul [prayer hands emoji].”

June 12: Gov Sani Urges Leaders To Uphold Democratic Tenets

Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani,  has urged leaders and citizens to use the occasion of the Democracy Day celebration to renew their commitment to upholding democratic values and work together for a brighter, more equitable future for the country.

In his message to congratulate Nigerians and Kaduna State citizens in particular on the June 12 anniversary,  Governor Sani called for unity to build a society that offers a better life for all.

He noted that the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes should continue to serve as an inspiration to protect freedom and deepen the nation’s democracy.

According to him, although the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election was a dark chapter in the nation’s history, it serves as a powerful catalyst, galvanising citizens and activists alike in pursuit of a common goal—democracy.

He called on citizens to reflect on the progress made and acknowledge the challenges that still lie ahead.

According to Sani,  ” Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, we have taken significant steps forward, even as we continue to confront new hurdles.

He acknowledged that the country still faces economic and security challenges; however, he noted that such challenges are not insurmountable with unity, resilience, and determination.

Wales ready to ‘do some damage’ at World Cup of Darts

Wales’ Jonny Clayton says he and team-mate Gerwyn Price are ready to “do some damage” at the 2025 World Cup of Darts.

The international doubles tournament starts Thursday in Frankfurt, Germany, with Clayton and Price eyeing a third success for Wales.

The pair were victorious in 2020 and 2023, while England’s Luke Humphries and Michael Smith lifted the trophy in 2024.

This year, five-time winners England are represented by the top two players in the Professional Darts Corporation’s rankings – Humphries and teenage sensation Luke Littler.

But speaking to BBC Sport Wales, Clayton says second seeds Wales can cause an upset.

“All the talk is about the two Lukes, but I’m sure me and Gez can do something about that,” said Clayton.

“Gezzy is a great front runner and I think I’m a pretty good number two, so we click as a team.

Price and Clayton have both had their share of success against Humphries and Littler in 2025.

In May, Clayton beat Humphries on the way to winning the Dutch Darts Championship, while Price and Littler each won half of their match-ups in the Premier League.

But ‘The Iceman’ agrees with the favourites tag being placed upon England.

“There’s no reason why they’re not favourites,” said Price.

“But there’s a lot of good teams that are going to be there.

“Anybody can win it but they’re definitely favourites.”

As one of the top four seeds – alongside England, Scotland and Northern Ireland – Wales begin their World Cup campaign in the second round.

As a result Wales will not play until Saturday, when all 12 second-round matches take place.

From the second round through to the semi-finals, matches are best of 15 legs.

To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser.

In every round of the competition, the match-ups are played as one-off doubles matches, and Clayton believes his and Price’s rugby experiences gives them an edge.

“We go out as a team, and I think the rugby background helps,” said Clayton.

“We’ve played in team games before, and I know rugby is completely different to darts, but it is the team mentality.

“We believe in each other and you have to believe in your team-mate.”

While both Clayton and Price have Welsh aspects to their standard darts jersey, ‘The Ferret’ says there is something special about representing the country at the World Cup.

“There’s no better feeling than representing Wales,” added Clayton.

“Being a Welshman, I’m so proud when I put that jersey on.

A former Playboy bunny has opened up about her time in the infamous house and one of her biggest regrets. Kendra Wilkinson lived in the lavish mansion with Hugh Hefner, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt between 2004 and 2008, but admits there is one thing she would change.

The Girls Next Door star, now 40, confessed she wishes she changed career sooner. Now a realtor, Kendra admitted she feels as though she would have lost out on a lot of potential celebrity clients by not going into the business during her time in the mansion.

And Kendra says it’s her “only regret”. She said: “The only thing I can say I regret in my life is not starting my real estate career while I was living at the Playboy Mansion.”

Speaking to Fox News on the red carpet at the Operation Smile 25th Los Angeles Smile Fiesta, Kendra went on: “Like, I mean, I was surrounded by everyone, every celebrity, every billionaire, and what was I thinking? But I’m now in real estate, so I’m good.”

She began her current career path in June 2020 after passing the California real estate exam. Her role has been followed in a number of reality TV series, including 2021’s Kendra Sells Hollywood. The show on Discovery+ and Max followed the former model as she navigated the ups and downs of her new career in Los Angeles’ hugely competitive luxury real estate market.

She previously labelled the real estate industry as “so stressful” but declared her love for it. Speaking to PEOPLE, she said: “I want to publicly hate real estate again, but I can’t, because I love it. I love real estate. It’s a challenge every single day.”

She had previously opened up on her mental health struggles due to the mansion, saying she hit “rock bottom”. Kendra explained how she reached out to ex-husband Hank Baskett, whom she split from in 2018, and recalled feeling like she had no control over her head or her body as was in a “state of panic”.

Despite her latest comments, Kendra said at the time that Playboy had “really messed up my whole life”. Speaking in a candid interview with People in 2024, mother-of-two Kendra said of her 2023 hospitalisation: “I was dying of depression.

“I was hitting the end of my life, and I went into psychosis. I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to live anymore,” she admitted, adding that it was the “lowest place I’ve ever been in my life”.

Kendra said she has had to “face my demons” and admitted she had a lot of issues that began when she was only 15. She recalled struggling with depression before she entered the Playboy Mansion.

She explained how she “drank a lot” to cover up her misery, but that later manifested into “deep regret” when she left Hugh, who was 60 years older than her, to start a new life with Hank.
