Remain In Labour Party Even If Others Leave, Fayose Tells Otti

Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has advised Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, to remain steadfast in the Labour Party (LP), despite the wave of defections that the party is facing.

At Otti’s home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Fayose gave the counsel on Sunday.

Fayose urged the governor to resist any pressure to leave, noting that Otti’s contributions and identity within the Labour Party had developed into a standalone institution.

You are a prisoner here, my governor, don’t leave. We’re referring to Nigeria’s multi-party system’s diversity. Even if everyone leaves, people don’t leave, according to them. Keep it that way. The former governor of Ekiti claimed that you are the country’s chairman.

[2027:] I Will Consult With God Before Making Decision, Says Otti.

Otti refuted rumors that he planned to leave LP and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the claims “false, baseless, and unfounded” in April.

The governor recently stated that he will consult with God before making a decision as a result of discussions regarding a re-election bid in 2027.

Given Back Leadership

Following his visit, the Otti-led administration in Umuahia and Aba visited several important projects.

Fayose continued his praise for the Abia governor’s accomplishments during his two-year term by describing his impactful and person-focused policies, particularly in road infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and education.

“The typical Abian does such a good job for them, raising their standard of living and bringing them to civility. So what I saw made me more than impressed. Some of the community maternity health care facilities were recently renovated, while others were completely rebuilt.

“It’s quite impressive in every sector we have seen.” We can’t say less than good in two years, and I’m not given a pass for a governor who has shown such zeal for his people.

Fayose cited Port Harcourt Road in Aba as a case in point, noting that the once-impassable route had been transformed into a dual carriageway, restoring access and economic viability.

“We are now in Aba once more. In Aba, I saw more than eight roads. I was told that Port Harcourt Road has been uninhabited for 37 years. It is not maneuverable. Therefore, it has been put in place, and a dual carriageway like this is all that would be required for a business city like Aba.

He praised Otti’s introduction of smart schools and promised to spread the idea to his home state, Ekiti.

The smart school is “the one I love the most,” he says. According to Fayose, I was able to sit down and discuss these ideas with my governor (Ekiti State Governor), who will also learn from them.

According to what I’ve seen, the governor has resigned from his position of authority over the people who surround him and made their priorities the people of Abia. The governor has informed me that his table will be his place of worship. Therefore, starting is not a big deal for anyone; it is just finishing. I therefore want him to continue to perform well.

Labour Party Turmoil and Otti’s Rise

After a failed bid to become governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Otti resigned from the Labour Party (LP) in May 2022.

He defeated Okey Ahiwe, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, in the tumultuous 2023 elections. He became the first and only Labor Party governor in Nigeria after gaining a sizable following among the youth.

However, the LP has experienced internal disagreements since the upcoming 2023 general elections, which has resulted in a wave of defections. Four LP lawmakers left the ruling APC in December 2024, citing factional issues. Alfred Iliya Ajang of Plateau State followed them.

These exits have also tested the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, which have reduced LP’s strength in the House of Representatives from 34 to 26 and from eight to six in the Senate.

The party’s candidate for president in 2023, Peter Obi, has stated that he is open to alliances as long as they focus on enhancing the welfare of the citizens rather than gaining power.

Turnout low as Mexico votes in controversial judicial election

Despite a sporadic turnout and widespread confusion, the president has referred to a landmark vote to select judges in Mexico as a “success.”

In the vote on overhauling the court system on Sunday, only 13% of eligible voters cast ballots. Although President Claudia Sheinbaum claimed the election would increase democracy in Mexico, critics accused her of trying to overthrow the judiciary, and analysts warned that the election would open the door for criminals to snare influence.

About 880 federal judicial positions, including Supreme Court justices, as well as hundreds of local judges and magistrates, were the focus of Sheinbaum’s and her predecessor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s campaign for the election.

However, many voters reported having to make educated choices among a flurry of largely unknown candidates who were prohibited from publicly disclosing their political affiliations or participating in extensive campaigning.

Polling places that are “largely empty”

From Mexico City, John Holman of Al Jazeera reported that polling places were “largely empty.”

The majority of Mexicans prefer something else, he said, “on what the government planned to be a historic day.”

Sheinbaum praised the election as “a complete success” and a “democracy pioneer” in the nation.

The president claimed that Mexico is only growing more free, just, and democratic as a result of the people’s will.

Supporters of the reform claim that it is necessary to remove the corrupt justice system, but Sheinbaum’s predecessor, Lopez Obrador, has previously pushed for it.

The “Painting process”

Experts had warned that despite the sheer volume of candidates and the unfamiliarity of judicial voting, turnout would be unusually low.

Voters “would have to spend hours and hours looking through the track record and the profiles of each of the hundreds of candidates,” according to David Shirk, a professor at the University of San Diego.

Voters at the polls expressed similar opinions.

Lucia Calderon, a 63-year-old teacher at a university, said, “We are not very prepared.” “I believe more information is required.”

The process is “painstaking because there are too many candidates and positions that they’re going to fill,” according to Francisco Torres de Leon, a 62-year-old retired teacher in southern Mexico.

Analysts and human rights organizations expressed concern that powerful criminal organizations might use the elections to further ensnare the justice system.

Although there is already corruption, “there is reason to believe that elections may be more prone to organised crime than other judicial selection techniques,” according to Margaret Satterthwaite, the UN special rapporteur on the legal and independent practice of judges and lawyers.

Although no criminal record, no criminal record, and a “good reputation” were all prerequisites for candidates, some had connections to organized crime and corruption scandals.

About 20 candidates are listed by the rights group Defensorxs as “high risk,” including former Sinaloa cartel cofounder Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s lawyer Silvia Delgado.

Another candidate, from Durango, previously spent nearly six years in a US prison for drug offenses.

The party went on until the early hours after Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen became husband and wife as their guests let their hair down as the wine flowed.

The celebrations didn’t die down until very late after they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends. Saturday’s wild wedding took place at the luxury five-star Langley Hotel in Buckinghamshire, and the lavish event turned rather raucous.

Bride Dani took to Instagram to repost her guest’s memories of her big day and it looked like they had the time of their lives. Her close friend and TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou, who got hitched herself in April, shared photos enjoying the dancefloor with Dani while fellow Essex girl Ellie Pearman uploaded a cute shot of the newlyweds kissing as he carried her in his arms.

Wearing an elegant off-the-shoulder gown, Dani looks stunning. Hours later, the 28-year-old couple said “I do” in front of their loved ones, and she changed things up for the evening. At the Bridgerton-themed ceremony, where Dani’s actor father, Danny Dyer, gave her away, West Ham striker Jarrod donned a black suit and donned a black suit.

While Dani’s bridesmaids and stylists donned bright pink dresses on the day, they also posed with her in her bridesmaids’ dress. Before other guests joined Dani and her dad, Danny and Jarrod, on the dancefloor, the day’s video appeared to show them having their first dance together.

Dani captioned a video of herself getting married on her Instagram, along with “The most perfect, special day.” Although the ceremony took place outside, a specially constructed glass marquee was built in the Buckinghamshire countryside to make the most of the warm weather.

Other well-known names, besides dad Danny, are thought to have included Declan Rice, Jarrod’s former West Ham United teammate. Other famous people congratulated the newlywed couple on social media and posted their photos. Dani flew off on a £20,000 hen party to Ibiza before the big day, and she was seen dressed up in a West Ham strip while arriving for the fun trip with the printed “Mrs Bowen being”.

Maxwell retires from ODIs to focus on T20 World Cup

Glenn Maxwell, an all-around Australian player, has departed from his one-day internationals to concentrate on the T20 World Cup in the coming year.

Since making his debut in 2012, the 36-year-old has won 149 ODIs, including a T20 Word Cup in 2021, and two World Cups in 2015 and 2023.

His 201-run ODI innings against Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup, which is undoubtedly his best ODI innings ever, was his best performance since then.

Maxwell won the match with Australia on 91-7, and despite experiencing severe cramp, he hit an unbeaten 201 from 128 balls to win the match and advance to the semi-finals.

Before Australia defeated India in the final, Maxwell also scored the fastest century in World Cup history in 2023 off 40 balls against the Netherlands.

His most recent international match was at the Champions Trophy in March, when Maxwell “felt like I was letting the team down a little” due to his fitness.

He then discussed the 2027 World Cup with Australia’s chair of men’s selectors, George Bailey, and said, “I don’t think I am going to make that. It’s time to start planning for people in my position to have a crack at it and make the position their own.”

Maxwell, who is known as “The Big Show,” ends his ODI career with 3, 990 runs, an average of 33.81, four hundred and 23 half-centuries.

He has a 126.70 ODI strike rate that is second best in all time, and he has taken 77 wickets off of him.

Todd Greenberg, the head of cricket Australia, expressed his congratulations to Glenn on what has been one of the format’s most exciting and influential one-day international careers.

Glenn’s ballistic batting has “lit up the cricket world” and contributed to Australia’s continued success in the 50-over match, including his heroic contribution to the 2023 World Cup victory.

Crowds have flocked to the grounds to watch Glenn bat, just like other great players of the game, and kids have been inspired to pick up a bat after seeing him use breathtaking array of shots to put the opposition to the sword.

Maxwell played for the Punjab Kings in April, but a hand injury prevented him from playing for the rest of the IPL.

He has represented 116 T20 nations and is hoping to compete in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka between February 8 and March.

His talent and skill are outstanding, George Bailey added. His longevity, underappreciated ball-handling skills, and energy on the field are all outstanding.

2027: I Will Consult With God Before Taking Decision, Says Otti

Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, says he will consult with God before making a 2027 run-off decision.

Otti made his statement at a&nbsp, a ceremony hosted by the Isiala Ngwa People’s North and South local government areas in the state’s Isiala Ngwa.

The governor thanked the electorate for their support, but he also stated in a statement that God would have control over 2027, according to his spokesman, Njoku Ukoha.

According to the governor, “2027 will also be in the hands of God, just like 2023 was in the hands of God.”

“I thank you for making predictions, but I also thank you for this endorsement because I view it as an endorsement of what has been accomplished so far.”

“I would only say that I would consult with my God,” I said. And I’ll make my response public as time goes on. Because I know my people are waiting, as I stated earlier.

Otti argued that the potential for Aba to stimulate the state’s economic growth is the driving force behind his administration’s deliberate investment in Aba, the state’s commercial nerve center.

Because we are aware that Aba can help us develop other parts of the state, we are concentrating on Aba.

Because Aba is our main commercial hub, we have a clear place in our strategy. According to Governor Otti, “not just for Abia, but also for the South-East and South-South.”

The governor stated that his administration is operating simultaneously across the state and reiterated its commitment to inclusive governance.

He made it known that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project would finish by December.

He made clear that all affected landowners had been fully compensated and that the location of Abia Airport in Nsulu was solely based on technical merit rather than political considerations.

He added that the Abia Airport project is a lofty endeavor that aims to be a full-fledged development hub with a view to bringing long-term economic benefit to the population.

We are creating an airport city by referring to the statement “We are not just building an airport.” There will be a three- or four-star hotel there, and there will also be a base there for the Nigeria Air Force. Within the facility will be shopping centers and markets.
