Mel C reveals having to ‘fight to be noticed’ and shares hopes for her own daughter

Mel C, a member of the ’90s supergroup that was at the forefront of the feminist movement at the time, has praised the advancements made in women’s sport.

Before the Women’s Rugby World Cup this summer, Mel C spoke sport with Natasha (Mo) Hunt, a star of England.

Mel C has praised the advancements being made in British women’s sports, saying they are “more visible and celebrated” than when they were younger.

Prior to the Women’s Rugby World Cup this summer, the singer, 51, who is best known as Sporty Spice in the Spice Girls, spoke with England rugby star Natasha (Mo) Hunt. The women’s soccer team will also take part in the Euros.

There is a lot of women’s sport happening, Mel said. You may well know that we have to fight to gain notoriety and respect, which gives people more strength to succeed.

She continued, “My daughter is 16 and it’s been really interesting to me to see how much more choices she has as a girl in sport.” Girls are now more popular than ever in sports that were once thought to be “mens.”

Women role models in all sports, including football, rugby, and other sports, are absolutely smashing it. They are more visible and celebrated than they were when I was younger. Young girls who say, “I want to be a rugby player, and I think it’s possible, is exciting to hear that. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I understand how important it is to honor the incredible accomplishments women make both in sport and in music. We must maintain that momentum.

In their reflection on their careers, shared values, and the influence of female role models, Mel and Natasha Hunt were speaking during a campaign with Volvic.

According to new YouGov research, 87%* of women believe that team sports aid in the development of life skills like teamwork, resilience, and leadership. To encourage more girls in the UK to play the game, Volvic’s Force of Nature Fund is providing grants up to £5, 000.

Mel claimed that she almost feels like she is gearing up for a sporting event because she takes performance gigs so seriously.

She stated, “I’m really focused on getting in the best possible physical condition for my performances.” I want to give the best performance possible. I consider how diligently people have worked to purchase tickets to cover expenses like transportation, lodging, and so on. Because people have really marketed themselves as being here to support me, I believe I need to be on my A game.

She continued, “The Spice Girls had some insane moments. However, it felt like I was performing for my country when Sporty Spice came to London in 2012. I was prepared to get a tattoo to commemorate the occasion and everything! It was incredible, and it was my career’s absolute highlight.

Natasha, who inspired young girls to play rugby, won her first senior cap in 2011 and is a true force of nature with her dedication and outstanding performances.

There were very few role models to look up to when I was younger, she said. I believe Sporty Spice pretty much stands out as someone we could pin our hats on and say, “I want to be that.”

Hunter Bigge, a player for the Tampa Bay Rays, was taken to the hospital after being struck by a ball traveling at 105 mph during a Major League Baseball game.

When Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles unintentionally threw the ball into the Tampa, Florida home dugout, the relief pitcher, 27, was struck on the side of the face.

Bigge had been leaning on a rail in front of the dugout while he was recuperating from a muscle strain and was not playing in the game.

Before going to the hospital to be evaluated, emergency medical staff immediately intervened to save him. He was placed in a neck brace and removed on a stretcher.

Bigge was treated for ten minutes before being stopped, but he gave the crowd a thumbs-up as he was taken away.

Bigge was speaking with the medical staff throughout the entire process, according to Rays manager Kevin Cash.

You feel a lot for Hunter and his wife, I assure you. He said, “I can’t imagine what she and he were going through.”

No one else is worse than everyone else.

Tony Mansolino, the Orioles’ interim manager, said: “It’s really frightening. It’s terrifying. We all sleep in these dugouts every night, and in many ways, you almost feel like ducks sitting there.

Rutschman, who struck the ball, was in agreement.

First-round leaderboard for the Women’s PGA Championship:

-4 J Thitikul (Tha), -3 M Lee (Aus), -2 R Takeda (Jpn), H Ryu (Kor), Y Noh (US), S Lee (Kor)

Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand shot a 68 to take the Women’s PGA Championship early on.

At the third of the five LPGA majors this year, world number two Thitikul, 22, rallied from a double bogey to win on four under par.

After a rollercoaster-style round of 69, which included seven birdies and four bogeys, Australia’s Minjee Lee was one shot further back.

Nelly Korda, the world’s number one, missed out on a round of 72 with two birdies and two bogeys.

Leona Maguire from Ireland was also on par, while Georgia Hall from England was a 73.

Thitikul, who is yet to win a major, said, “I think my putter went really well today.”

“I made putts at] seven, eight, and nine, which increase the confidence up making the turn to the back nine, but we had a lot of breeze going going and more than the back nine.”

I actually told myself to just be patient and focused on the next shot because [in the]majors you]are] going to miss anyway. How do you recover? It is more crucial.

The heat is cited as a contributing factor by Lee and Korda, who are attempting to compete at the Fields Ranch East course in Texas.

I just kept asking my doctor, “Can you give me another cup of water, or can you give me another?” Lee asked.

“I don’t believe there is enough]water available.” It is extremely hot.

Korda continued, “I’m still cooling down right now because it’s hot.”

Botafogo Shock PSG In Club World Cup Upset

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 1-0 Club World Cup defeat against Brazilian side Botafogo on Thursday in a hardfought battle between the reigning champions of Europe and South America.

A first-half goal from Brazilian international Igor Jesus proved the difference as Botafogo all but sealed a place in the knockout rounds in front of a 53, 699 crowd at the Pasadena Rose Bowl.

French champions PSG are widely regarded as one of the favourites for FIFA’s 32-team tournament after a dazzling season which culminated with a scintillating 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final last month.

But their hopes of securing a victory which would have seen them become the first side to reach the last 16 were stymied by a resilient performance from their opponents from Rio de Janeiro.

“A lot of people wondered, but we showed how strong Botafogo is”, goalscorer Jesus said after the win. “It was a difficult game, and we had to defend well, and we did our job and scored a goal.

” We’re really happy — we knew how important this game was. One team was the champion of the Champions League, the other team was the champion of South America, “added Jesus, who had been strongly linked with a move to English Premier League side Nottingham Forest earlier this year before opting to stay with the Brazilians to play in the Club World Cup.

” I think I made the right choice to stay in Botafogo, “Jesus quipped.

‘Intense’

PSG coach Luis Enrique said his team had expected a tough battle.

” We knew it was going to be a very difficult match — they defended very well, “the Spaniard said.

” This Club World Cup is very intense and difficult, and all the teams are highly motivated, especially when they’re playing against us. “

The PSG manager though was adamant that the European champions still had plenty of time to resurrect their campaign.

” If there’s a team that can turn it around, it’s our team, “he said”. We’ve got to analyse this and there’s things we can improve. But I think our performance was good. “

PSG picked up where they had left off in Sunday’s 4-0 Group B rout of Atletico Madrid, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia testing Botafogo goalkeeper John with an early curling effort after just two minutes.

In a scrappy first half, puncted by a number of niggling fouls, the European champions couldn’t settle into their passing game, but that early effort was as close as PSG could get.

Despite dominating possession, Botafogo’s midfield trio of Marlon Freitas, Gregore, and Allan worked tirelessly to stop Vitinha, denying the skilled PSG playmaker the opportunity to launch attacks.

Instead, Botafogo opened the scoring in the 36th minute, going over the break.

Jesus flew past PSG on goal with a perfectly weighted through ball from Jefferson Savarino.

The Botafogo striker misjudiciously headed past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before deflecting a fine ball past the covering Willian Pacho.

PSG spent a lot of time in the final third of the second half camped out, but they continued to dominate possession throughout.

The Brazilians are now firmly in the last 16, with a final group game against Atletico Madrid scheduled for Monday in Pasadena, thanks to Botafogo’s defense remaining unwavering.

Pacers beat Thunder to force NBA game seven decider

After the Indiana Pacers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-91 in game six to bring the series to a close, the winner-takes-all game seven will determine the NBA Finals.

The Pacers’ excellent attacking display, which included Obi Toppin scoring 20 points off the bench, prevented the Thunder from winning the Indianapolis Championship.

In 22 minutes of play, star player Tyrese Haliburton, who had a calf injury, passed a late fitness test before tip-off. He managed 14 points, five assists, and two steals.

We were afraid to watch those men win a championship on our home turf. We simply responded, rubbing our hands against the wall.

“There were so many different guys who chipped in. A whole team worked together. This group is really talented.

The victory means that Game 7 of the NBA Finals will return for the first time since 2016, when the Cleveland Cavaliers won the series with a 4-3 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Game seven will be played on Monday at 11:00 BST, but the Thunder will need much better play to win their first Championship since 1979.

The Thunder’s most successful player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, top scored with 21 points, but his team paid the price for missing their opening eight shots, which gave the Pacers an early eight-point lead.

“Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said, “Credit Indiana.” The victory was theirs. For the majority of the 48 minutes, they outlasted us. They staged an offensive against the game.

Results

Game one: Thunder 110-111 Pacers (Indiana lead 1-0)

Game two: Thunder 123-107 Pacers (Series tied 1-1)

Game three: Pacers 116-103 Thunder (Indiana lead 2-1)

Game four: Pacers 104-111 Thunder (Series tied 2-2)

Game five: Thunder 120-109 Pacers (Oklahoma Cit lead 3-2)

Game six: Pacers 108-91 Thunder (Series tied 3-3)
