Streaming Platform Deezer Starts Flagging AI-Generated Music

In what it called a global first, French streaming service Deezer told AFP on Friday that it is now alerting users when they discover music that has been identified as entirely produced by artificial intelligence.

A torrent of AI-generated tracks is being uploaded daily, according to Deezer’s chief executive Alexis Lanternier’s announcement, which comes in response to repeated statements from the platform from Swedish streaming service Spotify.

Deezer reported in January that it was adding 10, 000 AI tracks per day, up from the previous month’s figure of about 18, 000 in an April statement.

According to Lanternier, the company “wants to make sure that tracks created from a quick text prompt inserted into a music generator like Suno or Udio aren’t being taken away” from artists.

Deezer’s library does not contain any AI tracks, but instead they are demonetized to prevent unfairly lowering the royalties of human musicians.

A notice stating “content generated by AI” is now displayed on albums containing tracks that Deezer claims are a streaming service’s first-ever global flagging feature.

Lanternier claimed that Deezer’s patented detection system was 99 percent capable of identifying AI provenance markers.

An audio signal is a complex collection of information, according to Wikipedia. We can identify the little sounds that only they make when AI algorithms create new songs, he said.

It is visible in the audio signal but not audible to the human ear.

Deezer is a relative savior when compared to Spotify, which has 268 million subscribers and 9.7 million worldwide, the majority of whom are in France.

With Universal Music Group, the biggest label in the world, signed a deal in January that would better reward artists and other rights holders.

However, Spotify has not yet demonetized AI content like Deezer.

Putin says Russian recession must not happen ‘under any circumstances’

Russia’s economy must not slide into recession, President Vladimir Putin said, after economists warned for months of a slowdown in growth.

Putin told attendees, including government ministers and central bankers, at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday that some specialists and experts were “pointing to the risks of stagnation and even a recession”.

“This must not be allowed to happen under any circumstances”, he said.

“We need to pursue a competent, well-thought-out budgetary, tax and monetary policy”, he added.

Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said on Thursday that the economy was on the verge of slipping into a recession, and monetary policy decisions would determine whether it falls into one or not.

In October, the Bank of Russia increased its key interest rate to the highest level since the early 2000s to curb high inflation, only to cut it by one percentage point to 20 percent earlier this month.

Moreover, economists warned for months of a slowdown in the economy, with the country posting its slowest quarterly expansion in two years during the first quarter of 2025.

However, the Kremlin said it expected the slowdown due to two years of rapid expansion as it increased military expenditure to fund its war against Ukraine.

Yet, Putin denied that the defence industry was solely driving the economy. “Yes, of course, the defence industry played its part in this regard, but so did the financial and IT industries”, he said.

He added that the economy needed “balanced growth”, calling on officials to keep a “close eye on all indicators of the health of our industries, companies and even individual enterprises”.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Friday that it was time to “cut the]interest] rate and start heating up the economy”.

German Gref, CEO of Russia’s largest lender Sberbank SBER. MM also called for faster rate cuts to incentivise companies to invest.

Growth of military industries

Putin has used the annual economic forum to highlight Russia’s economic prowess and encourage foreign investment, but Western executives shunned it since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine in 2022, leaving it to business leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The economy, hit with a slew of Western sanctions, has so far outperformed predictions. High defence spending has propelled growth and kept unemployment low despite fuelling inflation.

Large recruiting bonuses for military enlistees and death benefits for those killed in Ukraine have also put more income into the country’s poorer regions. But over the long term, inflation and a lack of foreign investments pose threats to the economy.

Economists have warned about the economy’s continuing downward pressure and the possibility that it will stagnate as a result of inadequate investment in other than the military.

Putin claimed that the expansion of military-related industries contributed to the development of modern technologies for the military.

He vowed to keep up the modernization of the military, drawing inspiration from the experiences of the conflict in Ukraine.

He declared, “We will use modern military infrastructure facilities, modernize the Russian armed forces’ combat capabilities, and equip them with the most modern technology, weapons, and equipment,” and use of new technology.

’50 years of work’ – Cercene in shock 33-1 Ascot win

Media PA

The 33-year-old outsider Cercene won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in a thrilling finish.

The French-trained favorite Zarigana, the jockey who won, led the way with January in third place, but his mount rallied to win by half a length.

The trainers who have been training in Ireland since 1977, Joe Murphy, who has won the award, said, “This is 50 years of work, that’s what it is, of love and care, and it’s just a whole group of people together.”

“Heaven on Earth,” says the phrase.

Cercene failed to win the Irish 1, 000 Guineas, despite placing third overall.

“It’s unbelievable. She wanted to win, and she’s very tough. It’s magic to do this at Royal Ascot, jockey Carroll said.

Another surprise winner came on Friday in the top-level Group One match, where Shadow Of Light, who was favorite, could only finish fifth despite a 25-1 chance of winning the Commonwealth Cup.

The winner, who is known as “Flip Flop,” was ridden by Richard Kingscote from stall one for Harry Eustace, a seasoned trainer.

After winning the first Queen Anne Stakes on Tuesday with Docklands, Eustace was celebrating a top-level Group One double.

The horses have arrived in excellent condition, according to Eustace, despite being the hardest place on earth.

Trainer Charlie Appleby said the good going going made him unsuitable for the youngster and that he was third in the 2, 000 Guineas last year.

The Albany Stakes saw the end of Aidan O’Brien’s dominance of this week’s junior races with the training of Venetian Sun, trained by Karl Burke.

Horses drawn high performed well on Thursday, but Clifford Lee’s 7-1 winner also advanced from stall one on Friday, defeating O’Brien’s favorite Signora, who is now ninth in ninth place.

The best two-year filly I’ve trained, Burke said, “I think she’s very special.”

Brighton and Hove Albion’s heir Tony Bloom owns a portion of Venetian Sun, hoping that she will compete in the 1,000 Guineas in the coming year.

Ryan Moore won the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes for the sixth time with Ethical Diamond, trained by Willie Mullins.

The 3-1 favorite finished fourth last year, but this time it was without a doubt.

Shoemark excels as a King’s teen out of luck.

Warren Fentiman, a young jockey for King Charles, rode for him in his biggest performance so far.

The 17-year-old finished 16th overall in the Sandringham Stakes aboard Purple Rainbow, which was trained by William Haggas for King and Queen Camilla’s owners.

This week, the Royal couple finished third behind the field.

The 22-1 chance Never Let Go, trained by Ed Walker, was the winner for Kieran Shoemark in the Sandringham.

Shoemark was claiming his second Royal Ascot crown, after losing his position to trainers John and Thady Gosden last month.

The King Edward VII Stakes winner was steered by Rossa Ryan, who trained Ralph Beckett, by 11-8 favorite Amiloc.

Two-time defending champion Katie Boulter’s run at the Nottingham Open was ended in a dramatic loss to American McCartney Kessler at the quarter-final stage.

Against the world number 42 Boulter found herself 4-2 up in the deciding set but lost 6-3 3-6 6-4 after two hours and nine minutes.

British number two Boulter had won the past two Nottingham Open titles and was on a 12-match winning run at the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.

She played well in the first set but took just one of 11 break points, while 25-year-old Kessler converted two of her five.

In the second set Boulter wrestled back control, not conceding a single break point.

But in the decider, despite being two games away from the semi-finals, she lost four straight games to be defeated at Nottingham for the first time in three years.

Le Garrec and Hastoy to steer France A against England

Getty

Nolann Le Garrec and Antoine Hastoy will form a strong half-back partnership for the France second-string XV that takes on an England XV in Saturday’s non-capped match at Allianz Stadium.

Le Garrec, along with Maxime Lucu, has served as back-up to France’s first-choice scrum-half Antoine Dupont over the past couple of seasons, winning 10 caps at the age of 23.

Fly-half Hastoy started both last summer’s Tests against Argentina and was key to a late-season run of form that almost carried La Rochelle into the Top 14 play-offs.

The pair will play alongside each other at club level next season with Le Garrec moving to La Rochelle from Racing 92 this summer.

Elsewhere the experienced Gael Fickou partners 21-year-old emerging star Emilien Gailleton in the centres, while 35-year-old Leinster prop Rabah Slimani, who has not played for his country in almost six years, starts in the front row.

Theo Attissogbe, who scored three tries in France’s run to the Six Nations title, starts at full-back with the uncapped duo of Alivereti Duguivalu and Mael Moustin on the wing.

Tyler Duguid, who grew up in Canada but moved to France as a teenager, is named in the second row with Mickael Guillard, one of the breakout successes of France’s Six Nations, at number eight.

France head coach Fabien Galthie is without players from Toulouse, Bordeaux-Begles, Toulon and Bayonne as they contest the Top 14 semi-finals.

France’s frontline stars are usually rested for the country’s summer tours, however, the federation has struck an agreement with their clubs to release a small number of Test regulars for the three-match series against New Zealand in July.

France A: Attissogbe; Moustin, Gailleton, Fickou, Duguivalu; Hastoy, Le Garrec; Erdocio, Barlot, Slimani, Auradou, Duguid, Fishcher, Tixeront, Guillard.

Ed Sheeran played as Gordon Ramsay ‘collapsed like a wimp’ while wife Tana gave birth

Gordon Ramsay fainted in the delivery room when his son Oscar was born, despite his wife Tana banning him from being present at the births of their first four children

TV chef Gordon Ramsay fainted during the birth of his son as Ed Sheeran’s tunes serenaded the delivery room. The 58-year-old culinary star, who had previously been absent from the birthing room for his older children Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 25, and Tilly, 23, due to wife Tana Ramsay’s wishes, was present for the arrival of their fifth child, Oscar.

However, the Kitchen Nightmares icon’s elation quickly turned to alarm when he passed out while cradling new-born Oscar, with Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ playing in the background.

On the Smartless podcast, Gordon revealed: “Let’s make one thing absolutely clear, my wife didn’t want me in there. First of all, she said, ‘I want my mum and your mum in there, you’re not going to see me in that state, that side of the curtain, get out of there.’

“That was her decision and I had to respect that decision. When I did final arrive in the theatre for our fifth baby I f****** collapsed like a wimp! I blacked out holding Oscar in the air.”

Gordon has been sharing some intense moments from the delivery room, recounting, “He was coming through the sun roof so there was a lot of commotion going on. They said, ‘What do you want to listen to?’ So I said, ‘Can you play Ed Sheeran?’

“So they started playing Ed, they turned up the volume, I can hear all these noises, all of a sudden I see two more doctors dive in, I look to the floor and there was blood everywhere. They popped him out and then they came straight over to me and I went, ‘Woah, woah, s***.’ I sat back and I collapsed like a f****** idiot.”

The celebrity chef and his wife Tana are basking in the joys of parenthood once more with their little ones Oscar and Jesse James, who joined the family in 2023.

Gordon, a three Michelin star culinary maestro, is keen on instilling strong work values in his children, ensuring they understand the importance of hard graft rather than relying on their privileged background.

Proud of his older children’s diverse career choices, Gordon does admit to a twinge of disappointment that his daughter Tilly, aspiring to be a chef, opted for training at Ireland’s Ballymaloe Cookery School instead of one of his own kitchens.

Gordon emphasised the importance of balance in life, saying, “Balance is critical. Every time we were filming throughout the US the kids would come with us and then we were take them out of school two weeks early, and they put them back two weeks late, so we would do the filming schedules around the shooting schedules.

“It’s a lot easier now, we had four amazing kids and then Tana and I has this crazy idea to go back for more. So there’s quite a big gap. Megan, she’s our eldest, she’s 26, she’s an incredible police officer back in London.

“Then we have the twins who are 25; Jack is a Royal Marines Commando, Holly is in to her fashion. And then there’s Matilda, who is 23, who has just come back from culinary school, would you believe, a beautiful school called Ballymaloe.

“I am a little bit miffed that she didn’t ask me to train her and she’s gone off elsewhere. She’s seen the shows, that’s the problem! You’ve got to give them the values, and instil those values, they can’t depend on mum and dad.”
