Hallgrimsson happy with positives in Senegal draw

Inpho
Heimir Hallgrimsson, the manager of the Republic of Ireland, says he is taking the positives from Friday’s 1-1 draw with Senegal.

In the 21st minute, the excellent Kasey McAteer reacted the fastest after Yehvann Diouf saved his first header to give the Irish the lead.

Senegal, who had won 20 games before the friendly, scored from close range with nine minutes left when Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace equalized.

Hallgrimsson told RTE Sport, “I’m happy with the performance and there are a lot of positive things to take away from this.”

McAteer scored the opening goal for Leicester City in Dublin after the former Iceland manager gave his team the first start of the season.

On his first international start, Hallgrimsson praised the 23-year-old for “really good performances.”

He continued, “He showed a lot of confidence, took players on, and got the goal as a reward.”

“I’m very happy for him,” he declared.

In their final friendly before World Cup qualifying, the Irish will face Portugal, Hungary, and Armenia on Tuesday in a match against Luxembourg.

Hallgrimsson wants his team to carry that momentum into Tuesday’s friendly before their World Cup bid begins because they are currently unbeaten in three games.

We can play top teams, he said, which is the big benefit of this game.

“We disappointed that we didn’t win tonight’s game, and we occasionally made them appear like an average team.”

I’m mostly satisfied with how we handled their possession game because we made their chances score more goals, which is a top priority when you play strong opponents.

Sinner Ends Djokovic Record Bid, To Face Alcaraz In French Open Final

After losing to Lorenzo Musetti, Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic in a thrilling French Open semi-final on Friday, edging him into his first Grand Slam final.

In his first Roland Garros final, world number one Sinner defeated record-holder Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (7/3) to defeat Frenchman.

The 23-year-old Sinner praised him as the best player in the history of our sport, saying, “It’s amazing to play against him here.”

“Of course, I try not to think about this, but you can feel the tension before entering the court.”

In a dramatic fight that lasted three hours and 16 minutes, Djokovic showed his signature fighting prowess, but his hopes of a comeback were ultimately undermined by three set points that were missed late in the third set.

Next month, the 38-year-old will make an attempt to claim a 25th Grand Slam championship at Wimbledon, breaking the previous record.

Alcaraz earlier made up his mind for Sunday’s final when Musetti’s fourth set, which included a leg injury, was interrupted by Musetti.

Sinner, who hasn’t lost a set in the tournament yet, will be hoping to retaliate against Alcaraz after falling to the Spaniard in five sets in the semi-finals last year.

Alcaraz has won four of his matches against Sinner, winning the Italian Open final in May after Sinner resumed his three-month doping ban.

Let’s see what I can do, Sinner said, “Sunday will be very difficult because I know my head-to-head lately doesn’t look good against Carlos.”

In what appears to be a permanent changing of the guard, Djokovic’s exit ensures that Sinner or world number two Alcaraz will win a sixth successive major title.

The first Grand Slam final between two 2000-born men will be played.

Sinner and Alcaraz have never lost a major final.

The top two seeds will square off for the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen on Saturday in the first Grand Slam competition since the 2013 US Open, with Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff facing off in the final.

Djokovic had opportunities, but Sinner consistently came out strong in the crucial moments, including when he broke right away after failing to serve the second set.

In the final 10th game of the third, the Italian fought off three set points in total, hitting 44 winners overall.

Musetti retires with injuries

When Italian Musetti called it quits due to a thigh injury, world number two Alcaraz was already leading 4-6, 7-6 (7 / 3, 6-0, 2-0).

The 22-year-old said, “It’s never great to go through or win a match when it’s this.”

He has had a fantastic clay season. I wish him the best of luck, a quick recovery, and a quick recovery.

In two days, Alcaraz will aim to claim his fifth Grand Slam.

He said, “It’s been three very difficult weeks, and I only have one step left.” I’ve been playing great tennis this tournament, and I’ll give it all on Sunday.

Before taking a one-set lead with a break in the tenth game, Musetti saved break points in the first and seventh games.

However, Musetti’s attempted passing shot into the net gave the Spaniard the lead into the second-set breaker, giving him the advantage to reach the third set point.

Musetti briefly received treatment on his left thigh after being unable to handle the force coming from the other side of the net in the third set.

Alcaraz continued to dominate the set, where Musetti, the eighth seed, only managed five points in 22 minutes.

Alcaraz thumped a forehand into the corner to give Musetti another break, and the 23-year-old immediately swung to the net to shake his opponent’s hand.

Deported man Kilmar Abrego Garcia returned to US to face charges

A man has been returned to the United States after being mistakenly deported by the Donald Trump administration, where authorities claim he will face criminal charges.

According to recently released court records, Salvadoran immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 29, who had lived for nearly half of his life in Maryland before being deported in March, is accused of transporting undocumented immigrants to the US.

Abrego Garcia was reinstated to the US on Friday, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Despite a court order forbidding his removal, the indictment against him was filed on May 21 despite a court filing on May 21.

According to a report from the Department of Homeland Security, the Tennessee Highway Patrol conducted a 2022 traffic stop that suspected Abrego Garcia of human trafficking before ultimately issuing just a warning for an expired driver’s license.

A grand jury “found that over the past nine years, Abrego Garcia has played a significant role in an alien smuggling ring,” Bondi said at a press conference.

After American officials presented his government with an arrest warrant, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele agreed to have him return to the US.

In addition to the Trump plan to deport undocumented immigrants to the country’s Central American nation, Abrego Garcia was imprisoned in the country without the proper process, according to the president’s plan.

Bukele stated in a social media post that his administration cooperates with the Trump administration and would “of course” not decline requests to return a “gang member” to the US.

On Friday, June 6, at the Justice Department in Washington, DC, US Attorney General Pam Bondi addresses a press conference regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

According to Rosiland Jordan of Al Jazeera, Abrego Garcia could receive a fine of up to $2,500 and up to 10 years in federal prison if found guilty.

But “that does not address the ongoing issue of whether or not he should be deported,” she continued. That is a distinct legal issue.

Abrego Garcia will be able to contest the charges in court and in court. According to Bondi, he would be deported to El Salvador after serving his sentence.

Andrew Rossman, Abrego Garcia’s attorney, said it would now be up to the US government to ensure that he received fair treatment.

The administration simply refused to allow him to return, according to Rossman, a partner at the law firm Quinn Emanuel. “Today’s action proves what we’ve known for a long time,” Rossman said.

According to court documents, Abrego Garcia’s deportation defied an immigration judge’s 2019 order barring him from returning to El Salvador, where it was determined that he was likely to face gang persecution if he was.

Trump’s critics cited the false deportation as an example of the Republican president’s aggressive strategy of upholding deportations.

According to officials, Abrego Garcia was allegedly a member of the MS-13 gang. His attorneys have disputed his involvement in a gang and claimed that he has not been found guilty of any crime.

The executive branch and the judiciary, which have ruled against a number of Trump’s policies, have escalated in Abrego Garcia’s case.

Liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor argued that the Trump administration had no basis for what she called Abrego Garcia’s “warrantless arrest,” and that the US Supreme Court had issued an order to facilitate his return.

Chester-le-Street became Chester’s first T20 international.

England 188-6 (20 overs): Buttler 96 (59), Smith 38 (20), Shepherd 2-33

West Indies 167-9 (20 overs): Lewis 39 (23), Dawson 4-20

By 21 runs, England won.

In their first T20 international against West Indies, England defeated them by 21 runs in Chester-le-Street with four wickets and Jos Buttler’s superb 96.

Left-arm spinner Dawson, 35, skillfully turned and deceived his way 4-20 as England defended 189 in his first international appearance since November 2022.

With the game still in play, he returned to claim another three through the middle as the Windies fell from 91-2 in the 10th over to 115-6 with England’s first wicket in the powerplay.

They continued to struggle and eventually came up with a score of 167-9 after pressing on for 48 from the final 12 balls.

In his 59 balls, Buttler hit six fours and four sixes, which was close to his creative and destructive best.

In his first T20 opener, he combined with Jamie Smith, who had 38 balls in his first inning, and with Jacob Bethell, who combined for a 188-6 record despite a slow start.

After Buttler resigned following his disappointing exit from the Champions Trophy in February, Victory extends England’s winning run.

Buttler makes hints about a promising post-captaincy era.

Although Brook’s 3-0 ODI series victory served as the ideal white-ball captain, it is much more important to reclaim England’s form in the T20 format with a World Cup set for the first time in the.

Although Brook has suggested that Buttler could re-energize the team, his best performance on the field will be just as crucial as anything the Yorkshireman can do.

After taking 12 of his first 11 balls, Buttler, who claims he was exhausted by the Champions Trophy captaincy, played an outrageous reverse scoop to Andre Russell’s seam.

In the sixth over, he launched Alzarri Joseph twice over midwicket and quickly scored 78 in the powerplay, despite Ben Duckett being caught for one off a top edge in the second over, despite Ben Duckett being caught for one off a top edge.

After that, Buttler lost both his rhythm and the strike.

West Indies’ spinners dragged the score, with left-armer Gudakesh Motie only conceding 21 in his four overs. Smith hit midwicket, Brook was hit by Roston Chase for six, and Russell pinched Tom Banton for four.

With the final two centuries of Joseph’s second T20 century in hand, Buttler was unable to break into the lead with Jacob Bethell’s run-a-ball 23.

Dawson enjoys his comeback.

Although Buttler has played for England’s white-ball teams for a generation, Dawson only made his 21st appearance despite making his debut nine years ago.

He has consistently been overlooked for various other options in English domestic cricket in recent years despite being the standout spinner there.

In his second of the West Indies chase, he bowled the opening over before striking in a flighted delivery that tempted Johnson Charles to advance and left him stumped.

Shai Hope was hit by Matthew Potts at mid-on for three in his T20 debut, but a stand of 58 between Evin Lewis and Roston Chase kept the visitors in the game.

The momentum was taken when they hit 24 from the 10th over bowled by Bethell, but Lewis was snagged off the final ball at midwicket.

Left-hander Sherfane Rutherford was caught at long-on for two as Dawson took the next step from Bethell’s end. England surged on as he threw one more wide in the same over to force Chase to hit long-off for 24.

Dawson finished his third over with 3-11, but two fours at the start of his fourth diminished those numbers.

Bath overpower Bristol to reach Premiership final

Gallagher Premiership play-off semi-final

Bath: (6) 34

Tries: Hill, Cokanasiga, Muir, Ojomoh Cons: Russell 4 Pens: Russell 2

Bristol: (13) 20

Bath booked a place in their second consecutive Premiership final coming from behind to win a pulsating play-off semi-final against neighbours Bristol.

The Bears took a slender first-half lead through two AJ MacGinty penalties sandwiched between an excellent try from James Dun, as two Finn Russell penalties were all Bath put on the board.

But Bath moved in front early in the second half with Ted Hill and Joe Cokanasiga tries turning the tide, before Will Muir and Max Ojomoh’s scores opened up a gap that the Bears could never overcome, despite Benhard Janse van Rensburg pulling a score back.

Bath, who finished 11 points clear at the top of the table, remain in the hunt for a treble having already won the Premiership Rugby Cup and European Challenge Cup.

The hosts secured a home semi-final with three rounds still to play and rested all of their first-choice players against Saracens a week ago, the same day Bristol’s play-off fate was confirmed.

The Bears conceded they were underdogs coming into the match yet had the upper hand in terms of head-to-heads, having won five of their past six Premiership meetings.

If there was any psychological advantage to be had, they tried to seize it early on.

Bristol stuck first through MacGinty’s penalty and as they have all season looked threatening whenever they quickly moved the ball.

Dun ran in next to the posts for a breathtaking try that began five metres out of Bath’s try-line after the hosts kicked the ball deep into Bristol territory.

Kalaveti Ravouvou won the foot race with Muir, collected the ball and made 40 metres solo, skipping through one tackle and bouncing off another.

Janse van Rensburg’s clear-out opened space for Ellis Genge to pass to Bath-born Dun to make it 10-0.

Indiscipline has been a constant issue however for the Bears and they were needlessly on the backfoot as Ravouvou tripped Ben Spencer and was sent to the sin-bin, to allow Russell to kick their first three points.

Bristol were dealt a blow when scrum-half Harry Randall left the field before half-time with a shoulder injury, potentially jeopardising his chances of featuring for England this summer.

Russell’s second penalty was matched by another from MacGinty to give the visitors a 13-6 lead at the break.

Bath’s strength in depth has been a huge mark of difference this season and they came out for the second half looking like they had a point to prove, as they won a penalty almost straight from kick-off and Hill went on to run in on the overlap to draw Bath level.

At the other end the Bath flanker sprinted back to produce a try-saving tackle to deny Ravouvou, before Tom de Glanville kicked through for Cokanasiga to collect and dive over and put Bath in the lead.

While Bath’s forwards were held out as they drove forward from a line-out, Bristol could not stop Muir scoring their third try in 14 minutes as they switched the direction of play.

And when Bristol’s replacement scrum-half Kieran Marmion was also shown yellow for an infringement at the breakdown – forcing winger Gabriel Ibitoye temporarily to move to nine – it was not long before Ojomoh stretched over for the hosts’ fourth try to push them 21 points clear.

Bath: De Glanville; Cokanasiga, Ojomoh, Redpath, Muir; Russell, Spencer (c); Obano, Dunn, Stuart, Roux, Ewels, Hill, Pepper, Barbeary.

Replacements: Annett, Van Wyk, Du Toit, Molony, Reid, Carr-Smith, Donoghue, Bayliss.

Bristol: Heward; Ravouvou, Janse sVan Rensburg, Williams, Ibitoye; MacGinty, Randall; Genge, Oghre, Kloska, Dun, Batley, Luatua, Harding (c), Mata.

Replacements: Thacker, Woolmore, Lahiff, Rubiolo, Grondola, Marmion, Byrne, Bates.

Sin bin: Ravouvou (23 mins), Marmion (57 mins)
