Armagh through to All-Ireland quarter-finals with Dublin win

Images courtesy of Getty

In their second round-robin match at Croke Park, Armagh, the reigning All-Ireland champions, defeated Dublin 0-24 to 0-19 to advance to the quarter-finals.

After a strong second half, Armagh took the lead 0-13 to 0-9 at the break after playing for the first time at Croke Park since beating Galway in last year’s decider.

In the end, the Orchard County’s defensive prowess in the second half paid off with 17 wides.

Armagh came in strong at half-time.

Con O’Callaghan, a key player who was hurt in the win over Galway last time out, was not with Dublin, who had a strong start at Croke Park.

After the pair exchanged early scores, Cormac Costello was crucial in allowing them to move three points clear in the 17th minute.

However, they struggled to find their way in front of goal halfway through the half.

Armagh were much more clinical at the other end, scoring five points from Dublin’s kickout, despite the Dubs’ 19 shots in the opening period and only nine points from the result.

After 18 minutes, Rory Grugan’s two-pointer from Armagh restored the lead before Jarly Og Burns’ fine solo run and finish leveled the score.

As Orchard County took control of the game, Dublin went 11 minutes without scoring after Stephen Cluxton’s two strong stops denied Oisin Conaty and Andrew Murnin.

On his second start of the year, Rian O’Neill scored a super two-pointer, and Conor Turbitt scored the only other goal to give Kieran McGeeney’s side a lead for the first time.

After the break, Armagh continued to win, and O’Neill scored his second two points to increase their lead.

As Dublin were repeatedly penalized for failing to keep three players up in the first half, which allowed Grugan to score three quick frees, their own downfall persisted.

Before making amends with a fine two-pointer to bring Dublin back within five, Costello missed a two-point lead at the start of the match.

Armagh was steady thanks to Ethan Rafferty and Darragh McMullan, but Sean Bugler’s two-pointer kept the hosts from regaining their composure.

Bugler, Costello, and John Small were all guilty of bolstering Dublin’s wide count, ultimately costing taxpayers.

O’Neill scored his third two-pointer by opening the gap further with a free kick off the field as substitute Stefan Campbell scored.

Another two-pointer from Paddy Small, this time from Paddy Small, was the catalyst for Dublin’s reversal.

The scoreboard was constantly teetered as a substitute, this time Joe McElroy, failed in a desperate attempt to regain control of the game as Armagh escaped defeat.

Ukrainian drones target Russian airbases in unprecedented operation

According to officials, drone attacks on several Russian military bases are the start of peace talks with Ukraine, which are scheduled to begin in Istanbul on Monday.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Ukraine had launched drone strikes against Russian military installations in five different regions, which set off fire on several aircraft.

The regions of Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur were the site of the attacks. According to the ministry, air defenses resisted the assaults in Murmansk and Irkutsk, but only two, respectively.

The ministry claimed that several aircraft caught fire when FPV drones launched from areas close to airfields in the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions.

No injuries were reported despite the fires being extinguished. According to the ministry, some of the attackers had been detained.

According to officials, attacks targeted Olenya airbase in south Murmansk and Belaya airbase in Irkutsk, which are located about 4,300 kilometers (2,700 miles) from Ukraine and about 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) away from Ukraine.

These drones were launched from locations close to the airbases, according to local officials and witnesses on the ground. That implies that there were a number of people inside Russia involved in an elaborate operation, which was most likely carried out by the Ukrainians, according to Al Jazeera’s Dorsa Jabbari, who was based in Moscow.

According to Jabbari, this is the largest attack we’ve seen in one day at several Russian military airbases since the start of the war in February 2022, noting that Russia’s strategic air bombers have been launching attacks on Ukrainian targets over the past three years.

Meanwhile, a source from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was cited in a report from several local media outlets in Ukraine, including those obtained by state news agency Ukrinform, saying that the coordinated attacks inside Russia were “aimed at destroying enemy bombers far from the front.”

They claimed the SBU carried out the operation using smuggled drones hidden inside trucks and deep into Russia. According to the reports, at least 41 Russian heavy bombs were killed at four airbases, adding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had personally overseen the “Spiderweb” operation, which had been planned for more than a year and a half.

According to John Hendren, a reporter for Al Jazeera from Kyiv, the attack is “an audacious strike, one that Ukraine has been patiently and eagerly awaiting,” and it comes after Russian airstrikes into Ukraine have dramatically increased over the past few weeks.

A highway bridge in the neighboring Ukraine of Bryansk, Russia, was torpedoed while a passenger train traveling to Moscow was crossing it with 388 passengers and injured at least seven people.

No one has yet apologised. Russian authorities acknowledged calling the incident an “act of terrorism,” but they did not immediately accuse Ukraine.

Russia announced further expansion into the Sumy region of Ukraine in May, and open-source pro-Ukrainian maps revealed that it had taken 450 square kilometers (174 square miles) of Ukrainian land, its most rapid monthly advance in at least six months.

The nightly total of 472 drones launched at Ukraine by Moscow is the highest ever nightly total of the conflict, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. The Air Force reported that Russia had also launched seven missiles.

As Ukraine confirmed that it would send a delegation to Istanbul under the direction of its defense minister Rustem Umerov for talks with Russian officials on Monday, both parties sharply increased their attacks. The meeting, which was organized by US President Donald Trump, was fueled by his demand for a quick resolution of the three-year conflict.

Zelenskyy said he had defined the Ukrainian delegation’s position on the talks after previously expressing doubts about the seriousness of the Russian side’s participation in the meeting.

He claimed on social media that “a complete and unconditional ceasefire” and the return of prisoners and kidnapped children were top priorities.

Russia has stated in advance that it has come up with its own peace terms, but it has not. A Turkish suggestion for the leaders’ meeting to be held at the leaders’ level was also rejected by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

F1 Spanish GP: Piastri beats Norris as Verstappen receives late penalty

In the battle for the world championship title, teammate Lando Norris and Formula One champion Oscar Piastri won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position in a McLaren one-two.

His fifth victory of the season and McLaren’s seventh was his 2.4 seconds victory over Norris on Sunday.

Following a safety car period that triggered the main discussion point of the afternoon, when the champion was demoted from fifth to 10th place, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came out on top on Sunday, passing Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.

“It’s a nice way to get back from Monaco,” he said. A fantastic weekend, according to Piastri, who finished third last weekend in a Norris-held race from pole.

After the safety car restart, Verstappen collided with Leclerc and twice with George Russell of Mercedes, making four stops total and ending up on the slower hard tyres against rivals on softs.

The Dutch driver’s second Russell collision, which was obviously his fault, resulted in a 10-second penalty, which was added to his overall time after the race.

He and Leclerc’s altercation also sparked a post-race investigation that could lead to additional sanctions.

I attempted to turn him to the left. Fortunately, there were no consequences for the little contact, Leclerc said. Verstappen claimed that the Monegasque had struck him and should have returned the area.

Verstappen eventually let Russell pass, but he reluctantly did as his team instructed him to. Verstappen eventually let him pass.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who has seven-time world championships, passed Lewis Hulkenberg in the final lap to finish a surprising and upbeat fifth for the future Audi team.

Hamilton finished sixth for Renault-owned Alpine, Isack Hadjar came in seventh for Racing Bulls, and Pierre Gasly came in eighth for Renault-owned Alpine.

With only one car on the grid as a result of Lance Stroll’s injury-related withdrawal from Saturday’s qualifying, home hero Fernando Alonso scored his first points of the season with Aston Martin.

Verstappen took second place in the opener, while Hamilton and Leclerc moved up to fourth and fifth place to Russell’s place.

After the two Ferraris had veered off in the opposite direction, Hamilton let Leclerc pass on lap 10 of 66.

On lap 13, Norris made no attempt to challenge the quicker McLaren or pit for new tires on the following lap to regain second place from Verstappen.

After Piastri pitted, Verstappen regained control on lap 23. Norris made his first stop on lap 21 and came out ahead of the Red Bull, but Verstappen pitted him for the second time on lap 30.

On lap 47, Verstappen made a third stop, and Norris pitted for second place in the standings.

Kimi Antonelli, a rookie driver, beached his Mercedes in the gravel, bunching up the field, and causing a number of pit stops, prompting the deployment of a safety car on lap 55.

Verstappen questioned the switch to a set of hards, but was told that was the only option open, and the McLarens came in together for new tyres and double-stacking.

The Canadian Grand Prix will take place on June 15 in Montreal as the next round of the 2025 season.

Inside Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen’s wedding as dad Danny leads guests in X-rated chant

Danny Dyer left guests at Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen’s wedding in fits of laughter as he led them in a very rude West Ham chant which the footballer often faces

Danny Dyer reworded a West Ham chant to make sure he scored a winner with his speech as the father of the bride at the weekend. EastEnders star Danny walked his daughter Dani, 28, down the aisle so she could marry footballer Jarrod Bowen. White rose petals lined the aisle, with floral sculptures and candles creating a stunning backdrop which the bride and groom shared a kiss in front of.

And after Dani, wearing a designer Suzanne Neville dress, and Jarrod said ‘I do’, cheeky Danny then couldn’t resist bringing a bit of football into proceedings. With mic in hand on videos shared on social media, he can be heard urging the guests to sing and he’s married Dani Dyer ‘ to the tune of pop star Gala’s hit Freed from Desire.

They responded and also waved white napkins in the air. The usual lyrics are less family friendly – but also refer to Jarrod and Dani being an item. Despite a possible hangover today, Dani quickly changed her surname to Dyer-Bowen on Instagram, and is thrilled with how her big day went.

Other photos also showed her holding a bag from the celebrations saying ‘ Wifey For Lifey ‘ making it clear she thinks the commitment and marriage is very much for keeps. The couple have twin daughters, Summer and Star, both one. Dani also has son Santi, four, from a previous relationship.

On her Instagram, Dani said”, The most perfect, special day, “alongside a video of herself getting married. A purpose-built glass marquee had been erected in the Buckinghamshire countryside for the event, although the ceremony itself took place outside to make the most of the sunny weather.

After the couple cut a giant white cake, a band could be seen in the background poised to begin, so everyone could get the party started with some dancing.

Around 60 people are said to have attended the ceremony, which is in keeping with the down-to-earth couple who have a small circle of close friends as well as family to invite.

Aside from dad Danny, other famous faces are thought to have included Jarrod’s former West Ham teammate Declan Rice. Other celebrities lined up on social media to praise the newly married couple and send their congratulations.

Podcaster Giovanna Fletcher, who recently had Dani on her show, said: “Whoooooooop!!! Huge congratulations!” Actor Vicky McClure said: “Huge congratulations!”

Liverpool footballer Andy Robertson said: “Congrats mate.” And former Love Island star Samira Mighty said: “Omgggggggg my beautiful babe.”

West Ham’s Instagram also commented, saying:” Congratulations to you both. “Dani later posted a video on social media of her whole day, which began with her drinking a glass of champagne for breakfast as she sang Hop Little Bunnies with her twins.

After the ceremony she and Jarrod were showered in white confetti before both Jarrod and Dani’s dad Danny gave speeches. Dani’s bridesmaids wore pink whilst her team of stylists and make-up artists wore brightly coloured dresses on the day and also posed with her in her bridesmaids dress.

The video of the day appeared to show Dani’s having a first dance with both her dad Danny and Jarrod before other guests joined them on the dancefloor. After a late night partying with a live band, guests could help themselves to take away pizzas. The boxes were specially made for the day and said ‘ D&amp, J that’s amore ‘ on them.

As reported on Sunday, Dani Dyer has been in talks with the BBC and has now verbally agreed to take part in Strictly Come Dancing this year. It will be another thing to make 2025 a year to remember for her. In February, Dani spoke about how she first met her fiancé in 2021, because he was her neighbour and took in her parcels for her.

” Jarrod was my neighbour”, Dyer told the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast as she recalled the unusual story of how they met. I’ve never really spoken about this. I moved into the house I was in with Santi and he was only a few months old.

” It was a really small, cute little neighbourhood. I loved that house. People were like ‘ oh, Jarrod Bowen lives next door ‘ but I didn’t follow football at the time, just wasn’t interested in football.

“Then he knocked on my door a couple of times because my parcels went there. I remember the first time I opened the door… you know what it’s like, slicked-back hair… and I opened the door and I didn’t know it was Jarrod Bowen and he was hot.

” Blue eyes, blonde hair, a bit of me. I was like ‘ ohh, thanks! ‘ Then there were a few times I’d see him. I used to know when he was leaving for football because I’d hear his car go and he’d reverse out and I was like, oh I can go put the bins out.

“There was once I knew I looked OK because I had a shoot that day and I remember walking back round and then I put the key in the door and he came out and I thought ‘ I know I look good today’. So then he said ‘ have you got a meter reading key? ‘ once, a meter reading key for your gas or something.

” But I did not think nothing of it and said ‘ no, no I don’t ‘ and then he was like ‘ oh I’m moving house ‘ and I was like ‘ oh good luck with everything’. “Dyer said after he moved out, Bowen messaged her on her birthday to say ‘ happy birthday ‘ and following that ‘ they never stopped speaking’.

Dad-of-three and West Ham fan Danny is thrilled his daughter Dani has ended up marrying the West Ham star, who sources say is generally a private person and family man and not a flashy footballer by modern standards.

In the lead up to the wedding, Danny said:” I have met every single boyfriend that has walked through my door – and then she brings home the West Ham captain.

“I have gone from the lying scum, and I hate them, to a man who I would not mind tonguing myself! A strong man. If he lent in I would put my lips on this geezer.

” He is just, as a father and joking aside, he took her on with a 14 month old son and that says a lot about a man I will tell you. He is amazing. I can’t wait to give her away. What a touch. But if he was to make a move on me before…

“I think I’m in love with him, slightly”. Jarrod joined West Ham in 2020 and has regularly been the best player on the pitch, including when he scored the winning goal to give West Ham their first trophy in 43 years during the 2023 Europa Conference League final.

Danny added: “Okay. He plays for West Ham. He’s one of West Ham’s hot ones. He’s the captain of West Ham. And he’s unbelievable, this guy. I mean, he comes in my house. I take his shoes off for him.

” And I give him the remote control. And I say, ‘ Mate, this is your house now’. But he’s an incredible person. I just want someone to love my daughters the way I do. I want them to worship them and look after them. Let me tell you that. I love him. “
