90 names on Epstein files from Donald Trump to Michael Jackson

Among the names are former director of the FBI Louis Freeh; politicians Al Gore, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump; and actors Cate Blanchett, Naomi Campbell, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bruce Willis

The much anticipated previously sealed court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein were made public and include the names of many high profile figures.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s bromance has come to a spectacular end tonight as the Tesla boss dropped what he has called a huge “bomb” about the President.

Taking to his X (Twitter) account, the richest man in the world said it was “Time to drop the really big bomb” before claiming that Donald Trump “is in the Epstein files”. Trump’s name was released as previously sealed court documents were made public last year, in which he was named as an associate of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. There is no suggestion Donald Trump knew of any crimes or participated in any criminal behaviour.

Michael Jackson, Prince Andrew and Leonardo DiCaprio are some of the big names on there along with politicians Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. The people named in the records include many of Epstein’s accusers, members of his staff who told their stories to tabloid newspapers, people who served as witnesses at Maxwell’s trial, people who were mentioned in passing during depositions but aren’t accused of anything salacious, and people who investigated Epstein, including prosecutors, a journalist and a police detective.

When the plan to release documents was announced, it prompted rumours of a list of “clients” or “co-conspirators.” In fact, the judge who made the call wrote that she was ordering the records released because much of the information within them is already public.

Among the names are former director of the FBI Louis Freeh; politicians Al Gore, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump; and actors Cate Blanchett, Naomi Campbell, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bruce Willis. Also mentioned are the late physicist Stephen Hawking and magician David Copperfield.

Jeffrey Epstein was a billionaire known for associating with celebrities, politicians, billionaires and academic stars. He was initially arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2005 after he was accused of paying a 14-year-old girl for sex.

Dozens of other underage girls described similar sexual abuse, but prosecutors ultimately allowed the financier to plead guilty in 2008 to a charge involving a single victim. He served 13 months in a jail work-release program.

Some famous acquaintances abandoned Epstein after his conviction, including former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, but many did not. Epstein continued to mingle with the rich and famous for another decade, often through philanthropic work.

The judge said a handful of names should remain blacked out in the documents because they would identify people who were sexually abused. Before the unsealing, the names were listed in court papers as variants of J Doe. Many of the names on the list are people who had been publicly identified as Epstein associates prior to this unsealing through years of coverage of the case.

Prince Andrew has strenuously denied all allegations. Buckingham Palace previously said the allegations are “categorically untrue”

Here is a list of some of the names released so far, as reported by Newsweek.

The people listed were those named as associates of Epstein’s and there is no suggestion those listed either knew about his crimes or participated in any criminal behaviour.

‘A Profound Loss To The Nation,’ Tinubu Pays Tribute To Ex-Minister Aminu

Professor Jibril Muhammad Aminu’s passing, according to President Bola Tinubu, is a “profound loss to the nation.”

The President expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and employees of the renowned academic and former public official, who passed away at the age of 85, in a statement released by the State House on Thursday.

Prof. Aminu exemplified statesmanship and pledged to help create a stronger Nigeria. We must find comfort in his legacy as we grieve. In the sands of time, he left remarkable impressions,” the statement read.

The President prayed that “Allah forgives his sins and gives him eternal rest in Aljana Firdaus,” and expressed regret for the loss to the government and the people of Adamawa State.

Aminu, a cardiologist, was one of Nigeria’s most accomplished medical professionals, according to the Presidency.

Aminu received fellowships from prestigious organizations, including the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Royal College of Physicians in London, the West African College of Physicians, and the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College.

His academic journey was equally impressive. He served at the University of Ibadan Medical School as a consultant in medicine, senior lecturer, and sub-dean of clinical studies between 1973 and 1975.

From 1975 to 1979, he served as the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Executive Secretary. Between 1979 and 1980, he relocated to the United States, where he served as a visiting professor at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He resigned from 1980 to 1985 and became the University of Maiduguri’s vice-chancellor.

He began taking significant national positions as a result of Professor Aminu’s transition into the public service. From 1989 to 1992, he served as the minister of education and the minister of petroleum and mineral resources.

He presided over the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization in 1991 and over the OPEC Conference from 1991 to 1992 while managing the country’s oil sector.

In 1994 and 1995, he was later appointed to the National Constitutional Conference as a dissenter.

Aminu was appointed as Nigeria’s ambassador to the US in 1999. Before being elected to represent Adamawa Central in the Nigerian Senate for two terms from 2003 to 2011, he served there until 2003.

AI Must Be Localised To Work For Africa — Data Scientist

Bayo Adekanmbi, the CEO of Data Science Nigeria, has emphasized the need for Africa to create its own artificial intelligence (AI) systems that are context-specific, culturally relevant, and locally informed.

Adekanmbi, a panelist at the Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers event in Lagos on Wednesday, warned that the continent must refrain from overrelying on imported technologies and global datasets that don’t account for African realities.

“I believe that AI is more about people than technology,” the statement goes. And AI must comprehend the people’s richness, diversity of their language, culture, epistemology, and value system in order to serve them.

Because of the knowledge it will impart to humans as a set of instructions for solving everyday problems, he said.

The data scientist explained that AI must be trained on a wide range of representative data in order to function correctly because it depends primarily on pattern recognition.

For instance, if I want AI to help me predict the likelihood of a disease, I need to provide it with enough different types of training to learn the visual. And it will be able to respond when the next person has a different pattern.

However, he said, “I won’t get the results I’m looking for if I train AI with data that is biased, discriminatory, or not representative.”

Digitalizing African Languages&nbsp

The data scientist noted that despite Africa’s diversity, the majority of modern, highly developed AI models fail in African settings, particularly because there aren’t any digital African languages.

“Over 90% of the most sophisticated and complex AI models we currently use fail to understand African languages and the context. Why? More than 95% of African languages have not yet been digitalized.

There is nothing for AI to learn, therefore. If AI is unable to create context-specific, nuanced solutions to our everyday problems, he said, it cannot learn our content, whether in text, images, or pictures.

He advocated for the creation of AI systems based on African data and created by African citizens. He cited a proverb from which Nigerians draw and stressed the value of local participation.

In his absence, a man’s head cannot be barbed or shaved. She must be physically present, the center of attention, and that is not enough to make a woman look absolutely gorgeous, even with the best of logistics systems.

“So, if we want to create AI for Africa, we must be at the forefront of our attention.” He further stated that the people must collect the data, the models must be created by the people, and the finished product must have a nuanced user interface.

AI was created with the help of the people in mind and is intended to address the people’s peculiarities.

Adekanmbi further explained how mobile data from telecoms networks, in contrast to conventional demographic data, enabled the identification of community clustering patterns, and urged stakeholders to put their weight on implementing adaptive innovation.

“Digital illiteracy will always exist. What do we have that can be repurposed and modified to solve our issues, though? We can’t just say, “It’s not working.” There is still work there, even if it’s not working. Find out what is working, he said, and make it work.

He also cited promising developments in the digital landscape of Africa. “We now possess talent. Ecosystems are now forming.

The Gates Foundation in Nigeria is currently developing the speech data needed to enable AI to speak a wide range of Nigerian languages.

“What we need already exists,” he says. More opportunities and possibilities are available. And let’s use AI to solve our everyday issues, he said.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s inaugural Goalkeepers event in Lagos brought together world leaders, policymakers, and changemakers to assess progress making the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A ship called Madleen: Gaza’s first fisherwoman inspires solidarity mission

Little is known about the woman the boat’s name is named after: Madleen Kulab, the only fisherwoman in Gaza, as the Madleen sails toward Gaza in an effort to deliver life-saving aid to its residents.

Madleen Kulab, who Al Jazeera first met three years ago, had two children, was expecting her third, and lived relatively quiet life in Gaza City with her 32-year-old husband, Khader Bakr, who is also a fisherman.

Madleen, now 30, would sail fearlessly wherever she wanted to go if Israel’s gunship blockade allowed her to recover fish she could use to feed her family.

When Israel launched a rocket attack on Gaza in November 2023, Madleen’s family was in fear and heartbroken before the family was devastated.

They emigrated to Khan Younis, Rafah, Deir el-Balah, Nuseirat, and Madleen, who was nearly nine months pregnant, with them.

When the Israeli army granted displaced people’s retreats in the north in January, they are now back in what is left of their home in Gaza City, which is severely damaged.

pride and responsibility

Madleen has three of her four children sitting next to her, one of whom is one, Safinaz, five, Safinaz, and Jamal, who she was expecting when Al Jazeera first met her, in her deteriorated living room.

She describes hearing from an Irish activist friend that the ship carrying the flag of Gaza would be named after her.

“I was moved a lot. She smiles and says, “I felt a lot of responsibility and a little pride.”

She describes the group of 12 activists, which includes French member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, as “I’m grateful to these activists who dedicated themselves, left their lives and comforts behind, and stood with Gaza despite all the risks.”

In the face of danger, this is the highest form of humanity and sacrifice.

In their deteriorating home in Gaza City, Madleen Kulab and her husband Khader Bakr [Abdelhakim Abu Riash/Al Jazeera]

Sandy, age 6, and Khader share a different couch. He poses his phone while the Palestinian flag is flying over his shoulder.

Madleen has been fishing since she was 15 years old, becoming well-known as a pro-international solidarity activist and familiar face when she departs from her father’s boat.

Madleen is a skilled cook by hand, making seasonal fish dishes that were so popular that she had a list of customers waiting to buy them from her. The dishes made with Gaza’s omnipresent sardines were particularly well-liked.

She and Khader can no longer fish because Israel destroyed their boats and a ton of fishing-related equipment during the war, but neither can she.

She claims, “We’ve lost everything; it’s been the fruit of a lifetime.”

However, she lost more than just money. Her deep ties to fishing and the sea are the center of identity. Even the simple pleasure of eating fish, which she used to “drinks 10 times per week,” is discussed.

If you can find fish anywhere, it’s too expensive right now. Many fishermen, she claims, risk their lives by only keeping a small amount of fish alive.

“Everything has changed,” he declared. In the middle of this famine that we are currently experiencing, we now crave fish.

Among the prominent figures on board The Madleen are climate activist Greta Thunberg and French member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan.

newborn in her arms, sleeping on a bare floor

Following Israeli army advice that they would be safer there, Madleen’s family first moved there after the airstrike near the family home in November 2023.

They ended up with 40 other displaced relatives in a small apartment before Madleen gave birth to her child.

“It was a difficult, brutal birth,” the mother said. No medical care or pain relief. Right after giving birth, I was forced to leave the hospital. Because of the numerous wounded, there were no beds, she claims.

Things were just as bad when she went back to the shelter. We neither the children nor me had a mattress or blanket, she said.

“My newborn baby and I had to sleep on the floor.” Physically exhausting, indeed.

Then, in an enclave where baby formula, diapers, and even the most basic food items were almost indisputable, she had to take care of four of them.

She claims that her understanding of suffering and hardship has changed as a result of the war.

Between Israel’s gunship blockade and the frequent destruction of their boats, she and Khader were struggling to make ends meet in 2022. Being a mother with young children and carrying such physically demanding tasks added to that burden.

However, things are getting worse right now.

There is no such thing as “difficult” any longer. Nothing can compare to the humiliation, suffering, and horror of this war,” she claims.

a ship with the name Madleen

Madleen kept in touch with international friends and solidarity activists she had met throughout the conflict.

She says, “I would tell them about reality.”

Through me, they understood the situation. They resembled family, ” “

She is grateful for her friends’ financial and emotional support, saying they showed her that Gaza wasn’t forgotten and that people still cared.

She is also appreciative of being remembered for the Madleen’s name, but she worries that Israeli authorities won’t allow the ship to enter Gaza, citing previous intercepted attempts.

The least of it would be to intercept the ship, they say. The possibility of a direct assault similar to the one that occurred on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara in 2010 and resulted in several fatalities is more concerning.

Regardless of what happens, Madleen believes that the mission’s true message has already been communicated.

“This is a call to the breaking of the global silence and to the attention of the entire world,” he said. This war must end right away, and the blockade must end.
