Wall Street Stocks Rally Further On Trade And Tax Deal Optimism

As a result of optimism that the US would reach trade agreements ahead of a self-imposed deadline the following week and extend tax cuts, Wall Street stocks surged to new records on Monday.

After canceling a tax that had affected US tech companies, which had caused US President Donald Trump to halt discussions, Canada announced on Sunday that it would resume trade negotiations with the United States.

As the July 9 deadline for tariff reprieve approaches, there was more reason to believe that other governments would strike deals with Trump to avoid his steep levies.

Investors are confident that trade agreements will be reached, geopolitical tensions will be easing, and a significant economic slump will be avoided, according to investment analyst Dan Coatsworth of AJ&nbsp, Bell.

The big question is whether investors are correct or just being overly complacent, he continued.

Officials from Japan and India have stayed in Washington to continue their discussions, boosting hopes for agreements with two of the world’s largest economies.

On Monday, the S&amp, P 500, and Nasdaq Composite all increased to record levels on Wall Street.

Most Asian stocks were also boosted by the optimism of trade, but the main indices in Europe fell.

According to Patrick O’Hare, an analyst for Briefing.com, Wall Street’s “positive disposition follows the weekend update that the Senate passed a procedural vote that will set up its version of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” for a full Senate vote tonight.”

Trump’s signature tax-cutting bill, which costs $4.5 trillion, strengthens border security, and extends tax cuts from his first term.

By pressing for the package to be passed by July 4th, the Republican president has called out swinging lawmakers.

Concerns about the impact on the economy are present, though the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects that over the course of ten years, the measure would add nearly $3.3 trillion to US deficits.

Data showing a further decrease in Chinese factory activity in June following a China-US trade truce on Monday did not cause much major change.

Investors will be monitoring data this week, and a crucial US employment report will be looked over for signs of interest-rate growth.

According to FOREX.com analyst Fawad Razaqzada, this could be the “make-or-break moment” for the July rate cut expectations.

According to the CME’s FedWatch tool, only one in five investors can currently tell when the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its July meeting.

But they anticipate that it will be cut twice or three later this year.

Investors are also starting to increase their bets on rate cuts as a result of Trump’s suggestion that he could choose Jerome Powell as his successor in a few months.

At around 1530 GMT, important figures were revealed.

‘I Now Earn More Alone Than I Did With Psquare,’ Peter Okoye Replies Brother, Jude

Psquare, the now-defunct musical duo, has announced that Peter Okoye, one-half of their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, now earns more as a solo artist than he did during his time with the group.

In response to a statement made by Jude on Friday, Peter, aka Mr. P, made the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

I now make more money as a solo artist than I did when I split up with Psquare, plus the alleged manager.

I’m referring to both shows and endorsements. What’s the point of sharing with people who have defrauded, betrayed, and continue to discriminate against you? Peter wrote.

Peter added that the move gave him “peace of mind” and that his solo career was “more rewarding and profitable, both financially and personally.”

He said, “I have stopped being nice and being mature while getting disrespected.”

Jude Okoye
Jude Okoye faces charges of laundering ₦1.38 billion, $1 million and £34, 537.59.

He claimed that Jude’s arrest and detention resulted from his accusations that he had been vilified by EFCC officials.

You told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials, “These are the exact same words.” And you ultimately ended up in prison. You must of course create a different narrative.

In his Monday post, Peter reaffirmed that the family had not yet responded to the most pressing inquiry.

Despite being in court, he said, “We are in! Una refuses to respond to the question, “Una thief abi una no thief?”

Peter, Paul Okoye, and Jude

Jude Okoye’s Instagram statement on Friday, in which Peter, singer Cynthia Morgan, and others formerly under his management were accused of betrayal and ingratitude, was directly addressed by Peter in his post.

When I was shouldering them with my platform, they were powerful, powerful, and successful until they became hungry, abandoned, and left. They abandoned the wagon and went into debt, and now, according to Jude, they are pointing fingers at the same person they left, “Jude wrote.

The music producer accused his accusers of fabricating allegations that led to his imprisonment, challenging them, and alleging that they were paying for his detention.

They are unable to specifically address the crimes committed against them, the circumstances, or the location. They made up lies, tied money laundering and fraud to my name, and they surprised me by locking me up for two months, according to the Psquare ex-manager.

The singer Cynthia Morgan, a former Northside signee, claimed in early June that Peter Okoye once distanced himself from her struggles, making up for the renewed conflict.

She claimed that when he explained to her that his online support at the time was not personal and only matched his hatred for Jude, she was hurt.

Legal Tussle

This most recent exchange comes as a result of Jude’s ongoing legal battle with the EFCC, which he was charged with with money laundering in February of that year.

According to court documents, Jude and his business, Northside Music Ltd, allegedly dishonestly paid over $1 million in royalties from businesses that are alleged to have paid Psquare’s music catalog, including Kobalt Music, Kobalt Music, and Mtech Limited.

According to one of the allegations, Jude used the funds to purchase an expensive property in Lagos’ Ikoyi neighborhood for about $850 million.

Another count alleges that Jude distributed the funds between various bank accounts to conceal the source of more than $1 million through a Bureau De Change.

He entered a not-guilty plea and denied all of the allegations.

In August of that year, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) confirmed that Psquare had broken up permanently. The family’s internal dispute resurfaced in August of that year.

Israel kills 85 Palestinians, bombing across Gaza amid new ceasefire push

Israeli forces have bombarded multiple areas across the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 85 Palestinians, including aid seekers and families sheltering in schools, and wounding many more in attacks that have also targeted a crowded hospital.

In the relentless attacks on Monday, 62 of the victims were in Gaza City and the north of the territory. The Israeli navy struck a port in Gaza City, where the military has stepped up its heavy strikes, killing at least 21 and wounding 30, many of them women and children.

Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said the attack was in the heart of a displacement centre near the Gaza seaport.

“This area serves as a refuge for many traumatised and displaced people, offering some relief from the oppressive heat of the tents,” he said.

Also on Monday, Israeli forces targeted the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah, where thousands of families had sought shelter.

Videos circulating online and verified by Al Jazeera showed chaos at the hospital, with people fleeing for safety as tents sheltering displaced families appeared damaged by the attack.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from the scene of the hospital attack, said the army did not issue “any warnings” before the “huge explosion”.

“The site of the attack is about 10 metres [33ft] from our broadcast point. This is not the first time the hospital’s courtyard has been attacked. At least 10 times, this facility has been squarely targeted by Israeli forces,” Abu Azzoum said. “It’s a staggering concentration of attacks on medical facilities, adding further burden on barely functioning hospitals.”

In a statement, Gaza’s Government Media Office decried the attack by Israel, calling it a “systematic crime” against the Palestinian enclave’s health system.

“Its warplanes bombed a tent for the displaced inside the walls of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, resulting in injuries at the site of the bombing, material damage, and directly threatening the lives of dozens of patients,” it said.

Israel has repeatedly targeted dozens of hospitals during its 22-month war on Gaza. Human rights groups and United Nations-backed experts have accused Israel of systematically destroying the enclave’s healthcare system.

‘It felt like earthquakes’

Also in the south, at least 15 aid seekers looking for food at aid distribution hubs run by the controversial United States- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were killed by an Israeli air strike in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, according to sources at Nasser Medical Complex. Fifty people were also wounded in the attack.

They are the latest victims in a wave of daily carnage at these sites that have killed nearly 600 Palestinians since GHF took over limited aid deliveries in Gaza in late May amid a crippling Israeli blockade.

The Israeli military acknowledged on Monday that Palestinian civilians were harmed at the aid distribution centres, saying that instructions had been issued to forces following “lessons learned” and firing incidents were under review.

This follows the Israeli news outlet, Haaretz, reporting that soldiers operating near the aid sites in Gaza have been deliberately firing upon Palestinians. According to the Haaretz report, which quoted unnamed Israeli soldiers, troops were told to fire at the crowds of Palestinians and use unnecessary lethal force against people who appeared to pose no threat.

Israeli forces are also carrying out home demolitions in Khan Younis, raising fears of a new ground invasion.

The Israeli military, meanwhile, has issued more forced evacuation threats to Palestinians in large districts in the northern Gaza Strip, where Israeli forces had operated before and left behind wide-scale destruction, forcing a new wave of displacement.

“Explosions never stopped; they bombed schools and homes. It felt like earthquakes,” said Salah, 60, a father of five children, from Gaza City. “In the news, we hear a ceasefire is near. On the ground, we see death and we hear explosions.”

Israeli tanks pushed into the eastern areas of Zeitoun suburb in Gaza City and shelled several areas in the north, while aircraft bombed at least four schools after ordering hundreds of families sheltering inside to leave, residents said.

Gaza’s health authorities said at least 10 people were killed in attacks on Zeitoun and at least 13 were killed southwest of Gaza City.

More than 80 percent of Gaza is now an Israeli-militarised zone or under forced displacement orders, according to the United Nations.

The attacks come as Israeli officials, including Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, were due in Washington, DC for a new ceasefire push by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Key mediator Qatar has confirmed that there are serious US intentions to push for a return to negotiations, but there are complications, according to a Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman.

The spokesman said that it has become difficult to accept the continued human losses in the Gaza Strip, warning that the continued link between the humanitarian and military aspects in Gaza cannot be accepted.

The talks in the White House are also expected to cover Iran, and possible wider regional diplomatic deals.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet was expected to convene to discuss the next steps in Gaza.

On Friday, Israel’s military chief said the present ground operation was close to having achieved its goals, and on Sunday, Netanyahu claimed new opportunities had opened up for recovering the captives, 20 of whom are believed to still be alive.

Rescuers Evacuate 50,000 As Turkey Battles Wildfires

As firefighters battled a string of wildfires, rescuers in Turkey evacuated more than 50 000 people, mostly from the western province of Izmir, according to the AFAD disaster agency, on Monday.

The worst fire broke out on Sunday in Seferihisar, a forested region 50 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of Izmir, spreading quickly and causing winds of up to 120 kilometers (75 miles per hour), according to officials.

Over 50, 000 people from 41 settlements have been temporarily relocated to safe areas, according to AFAD, who claims 79 people have experienced smoke and other fire-related issues, none of which are serious.

42, 300 people were forced to leave Seferihisar, where TV footage showed massive flame raging through forested areas and causing massive black smoke-filled clouds to fall into the sky.

According to footage from the private TV network NTV, the fire destroyed around 20 evacuated homes overnight, with only the walls standing.

GREE Declares Emergency On Chios Over Wildfires

As the flames spread, residents of the seaside village of Urkmez reportedly smashed trees to make firebreaks and protect their homes on Sunday.

The wind is still blowing very strongly, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli reported to reporters on Monday afternoon.

Over the weekend, the Turkish State Meteorological Service issued a warning about strong winds.

Briefly Suspended Flights

With the aid of 106 fire trucks, 14 helicopters, and four planes, Yumakli claimed that more than 1, 000 people had been dispatched to the blaze.

Another 3, 000 people were reportedly evacuated from Manisa, 40 kilometers north of Izmir, according to AFAD.

The governor claimed that 1,500 people were forced to leave their homes in the southern Hatay region, where a fire erupted about 10 kilometers north of the city of Antakya, using four helicopters, 211 fire engines, and 540 firefighters.

According to AFAD, 850 others were forced to flee from two more wildfires in northwest Turkey.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc reported on X that one person had been detained for allegedly using gasoline to start one of the wildfires in the Izmir region.

Without providing further details, he wrote, “The suspect is alleged to have set fire to their own residence, which later set off a forest fire.”

According to the agriculture and forestry ministry, 263 fires have erupted in Turkey since Friday, of which 259 are under control while efforts are being made to contain the other four.

Turkish media reported that the Izmir airport resumed operations after temporarily suspending flights on Sunday.

According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) website, nearly 19 000 hectares of land have been destroyed in Turkey so far this year.

Experts have warned Turkey to take action to combat the problem, claiming that human-caused climate change is making wildfires and other natural disasters more frequent and more severe.

TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, who has two children with former Coronation Street cast member Ryan Thomas, has defended herself following a question about her parenting

Lucy Mecklenburgh has defended herself following a question about her approach to parenting

Reality TV star Lucy Mecklenburgh has opened up about her approach to parenting following a “negative” question on social media about her family’s lifestyle. She said that it is “really important” to the speak out about the situation.

Lucy, 33, has two children with her fiancé Ryan Thomas, 41. The couple are parents to kids Roman, five, and Lilah, three, together. Through the relationship, she is also a step-parent to Scarlett Thomas, 16, who is former Coronation Street actor Ryan’s daughter from a previous relationship.

Former the Only Way is Essex star Lucy often posts about her life on Instagram. It includes keeping fans updated on holidays and her going away, with her having occasionally posted on the platform about taking trips without her kids.

Lucy was faced with a question about her lifestyle in a Q&A on Instagram yesterday. After inviting her followers to submit questions, she revealed that one submission asked about her having previously gone away with Roman and Lilah.

The question read: “Why do you always leave your kids and go away?” Lucy responded in a post that included a photo of herself and her partner Ryan sat in a restaurant, which is thoughts to have been taken on a holiday together.

Ryan Thomas, in a pink shirt, sat beside Lucy Mecklenburgh, in a red outfit, at a table. Over the top of the photo is a question submitted by a fan in a Q&A about Lucy going on holiday without her kids and her response is also included in the post.

Addressing the question, Lucy wrote in her response: “I know this was meant as a negative message but actually I think it’s really important to talk about. I adore my kids so much and as much as [I] get mum guilt every time I leave them I think it’s so healthy for a relationship to have a date night or short break away with your partner or friends.”

She went on to add that she also travels away for work. Lucy wrote: “I also do have to go away a lot to London or abroad to my retreats but that’s my work and actually I absolutely love what I do & love that my kids see me enjoying my job.”

Lucy co-founded the brand RWL, which hosts wellness and fitness retreats, including in Portugal. Earlier this month, she posted about having been away at a retreat in the UK, with her writing: “My favourite kind of weekend away.”

She told her followers in a video message: “Oh my god, I cannot believe this weekend has come around so quickly. So the last time I was here was October and it was one of the best weekends of my life, so I just had to do it again.”

Lucy said it included walks in the countryside, “delicious” food that is cooked for the guests, a variety of workouts, hot tub use and being surrounded by “like-minded women”. She added: “This is the ultimate girls weekend away.”

Lucy had previously posted about needing some time away. Last month, said over footage from a retreat: “I need a break and we shouldn’t feel guilty for feeling like this because when I get time to myself doing something that I love that is looking after my wellbeing, I am definitely a better mum and better at my job.”

Days earlier Lucy had revealed to fans that she had enjoyed a family holiday abroad recently too though. Lucy had gone on a Royal Caribbean Cruise with Ryan, their two kids and her stepdaughter Scarlett in April. The trip included stops in Miami, St. Kitts and the Bahamas.

She wrote in a post about the holiday that she hadn’t ever planned to go on a cruise but was already looking forward to another with her family in the future. She wrote: “Honestly, cruising with kids? Game. Changer. Non-stop fun, dreamy destinations every day, amazing food (still thinking about it), and the kids’ clubs? Unreal.” After sharing the itinerary, she told fans: “Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.”

Governments in both the UK and Europe have urged residents to assemble 72-hour emergency kits within their homes, filled with essential supplies that could sustain them for at least three days in times of crisis, our News team reports. In the UK, this message has been reinforced by the unveiling of the Prepare website by Oliver Dowden.

This portal provides practical advice for ensuring households are better equipped to deal with various emergencies such as floods, power outages or pandemics. The website has outlined what the emergency kits should ideally contain, with items including non-perishable food, water, baby supplies, first aid kit, and a battery or wind-up radio.

The UK government has acknowledged that buying all these items at once may prove challenging for some. Instead, the advice is to build up supplies gradually as and when possible, avoiding panic buying, reports the Daily Record.

Sue Cleaver
Sue has a strong opinion on all the talk of the Loose Women ‘feuds’(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock)

There’s never a dull moment on the Loose Women set, and show regular Sue Cleaver spoke exclusively to Love Sunday about the ITV programme. The Coronation Street icon said: “I love that show. It’s brilliant. I’ve known all the girls for years, so, yeah.”

When quizzed on the speculation about women at war and in-fighting, Sue replied: “They always like to say ‘catfights’, but they only say that about women, don’t they? They wouldn’t dream of saying that when it’s blokes presenting something. Actually we’re very tight. But it happens a lot when Denise [Welch] and I are on together.

“We’ve known each other for 25 years – we’re close friends and have a sort of shorthand in the way we communicate. The press will say ‘massive fallout’, but I’ve never fallen out with Denise in my life! It’s quite awful, we’ve still got so far to go that it’s depressing.”

DWP welfare cuts to result in 150,000 in poverty – despite major U-turn

Keir Starmer

In other news, our Politics team broke that around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the government’s watered-down welfare cuts, new modelling suggests. It comes after Keir Starmer offered major concessions last week after a rebellion over 120 Labour MPs threatened the government with defeat in the Commons.

In a dramatic climbdown, the Prime Minister agreed to protect all existing claimants from losing Personal Independence Payments – a key disability benefit. The changes to PIP will now only apply to new claims from November 2026.

But new modelling published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) today says an additional 150,000 individuals will be in relative poverty after housing costs by the end of 2029-30. The modelling said the estimate does not include any “potential positive impact” from extra funding to support people with disabilities and long-term health conditions into work.
