Mbappe Sparkles Against Celta Vigo As Real Madrid Maintain Liga Dream

Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 3-2 to move within sight of La Liga’s top two teams, Kylian Mbappe, twice.

Madrid held on to a late Celta fightback to maintain the four-point lead over the Catalans ahead of the Clasico game on Sunday after the Catalans lost to Valladolid on Saturday.

Second-placed leaders Real Madrid were forced to hold on to a seventh-placed Celta side in Santiago Bernabeu, hoping to win the next season in European competition.

Los Blancos are still hopeful of beating Hansi Flick’s side in La Liga despite Los Blancos’ failed Champions League defense and Los Blancos’ failed Copa del Rey final against Barcelona last week.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side faced a string of defensive injuries before Carlo Ancelotti’s side took control with Turkish 20-year-old Arda Guler pulling the strings after riding out a first wave of Celta chances.

Rodrygo started in his place and made the most of Rodrygo’s illness when he went out with him.

In the opening moments, Guler showed that his ambition has no limits with a spectacular overhead effort that was directed wide of the intended target.

As a threat to Celta, former Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso headed just over before forcing a fine save from Thibaut Courtois.

As Madrid stifled the visitors, Aurelien Tchouameni headed over when he was in a better position at the other end.

After 33 minutes, Guler skillfully created some space in the box before brilliantly curled a strike past Vicente Guaita. Madrid opened the scoring.

At the close of a quick breakaway, Mbappe doubled Madrid’s lead after 39 minutes.

When Bellingham set Mbappe free down the right, Courtois successfully saved from Borja Iglesias and Madrid immediately moved forward.

The French superstar ruthlessly flew inside Guaita from within the area.

Mbappe scored his 24th league goal of the year just three minutes into the second half, putting him one point ahead of Robert Lewandowski, the top scorer for Barcelona.

Guler created the ball by playing in the striker with a perfectly-weighted ball, and Mbappe finished low with a left bootstroke.

After a corner was mistakenly given to Celta, it appeared as though Madrid had won the match, but Javier Rodriguez reclaimed control with a close finish.

Rodriguez was present to stop Pablo Duran’s backheeled effort on the line, but Lucas Vazquez blocked it.

The Galicians immediately had more attacking momentum when Iago Aspas was called off the bench and sent Williot Swedberg to score a superb pass to slot a second past Courtois.

The Belgian goalkeeper was heartbroken moments later when Duran’s shot slipped out of his hands and had potential to have squirmed across the line behind him if it hadn’t come to a stop on the grass.

With a win over Clasico, Barcelona would have won the title next weekend if Madrid had conceded more points.

Real Madrid-Celta Vigo: Mbappe brace keeps LaLiga title hopes alive

Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 3-1 to stay within sight of LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who they face next weekend, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice.

Madrid held onto their lead by four points going into the Sunday Clasico match after the Catalans lost to Valladolid on Saturday. They then overcame a late Celta comeback the following day to maintain the lead.

Real Madrid, the defending champions, were forced to hold on to a seventh-place Celta side in a game that would allow them to qualify for European football next season.

Los Blancos are still hopeful of beating Hansi Flick’s side in LaLiga despite Los Blancos’ Champions League defense crumbling and Los Blancos’ Copa del Rey final defeat last week.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side entered the match with a number of defensive injuries, but Arda Guler, a 20-year-old Turkish, took control after a number of Celta chances, were thrown away.

Rodrygo started playing in his place and made the most of Rodrigo’s illness.

Madrid appeared to have won the match, but Javier Rodriguez’s finish from close range after a corner gave it the impression that it was over.

Betfred Super League

Huddersfield (8) 12

Goals: Flanagan 2

Hull FC (6) 10

In a tense Magic Weekend fight between Hull and the Huddersfield Giants, the Giants won their first Super League game.

Herman Ese’ese crossed for the Giants to reduce the deficit to 8-6 at half-time following George Flanagan’s penalty and Leroy Cudjoe’s score.

On the stroke of half-time, Jacob Gagai’s try extended the lead to Liam Knight, who was sent off for a shoulder charge on Sam Hewitt.

Lewis Martin’s brilliant flying finish helped the Black and Whites reclaim two points after superb defense, but the Giants held on.

A Knight rush of blood and Clune’s return prove crucial.

After almost two months without a back, the Giants returned Adam Clune, who immediately had an immediate impact, scoring two try assists as Huddersfield won their 12th Magic Weekend.

Flanagan gave the Giants a string of first-half penalties before conceding to an edgy-looking Hull, who was able to put the Giants ahead.

After Zac Woolford and Joe Greenwood spurned more gifts, Cudjoe’s step-and-go beat Will Pryce in a one-on-one to cross under the posts.

When the Giants started to take control, John Cartwright’s side responded immediately and with little counterattacking threat.

Ese’ese’s fifth Super League try came from John Asiata’s powerful surge to the line and his incredible back-handed pass, and Cade Cust was denied another try thanks to Flanagan’s brave tackle, which kept the slender lead.

However, two madness moments dictated the outcome of the game, which saw a full-blooded first half collapse at half-time.

Sam Eseh, a Hull prop, quickly slammed Thomas Burgess in the bin after making a big tackle on Matty English, which sparked a brawl. And with the following play, they were all down to 11 when Knight was sent off for hitting Hewitt in the shoulder.

After the break, the Black and Whites effectively managed their numerical disadvantage, but Gagai was quickly punished for a loose Ese-ese pass when Clune’s brilliant cut-out pass knocked out four Hull defenders.

Davy Litten’s incredible offload off the floor and Martin’s superb one-handed flying corner turn, which came in at 12-10, were just two minutes apart.

Huddersfield: Gagai, Milne, Halsall, Swift, Rush, Clune, Wilson, Woolford, Greenwood, Hewitt, Jake Bibby, Cudjoe, and Gagai.

Golding, English, Burgess, and Jack Bibby swap.

Sin-bin: Burgess (37)

Racing 92: (8) 15

Owen Farrell’s final audition for British and Irish Lions selection ended early as England’s record point-scorer suffered a head injury in Racing 92’s 29-15 Semi-final of the Challenge Cup loss to Lyon.

Farrell is in contention for a call-up from his father and Lions head coach Andy Farrell, who will make the tour-debut on Thursday. However, the 33-year-old was substituted in the 19th minute for the latest setback in a season of injuries.

When Farrell went off injured for Racing at inside center for the first time, the semi-final was scoreless.

The former Saracens player is up for Lions selection along with fly-halves George Ford, Fin Smith, Sam Prendergast, and Finn Russell, who is currently playing in his 17th game for Racing this year.

Before Racing responded with a try from Diego Escobar, Farrell injured himself and Leo Berdeu gave Lyon the lead.

After half-time, Lyon responded with Beka Saginadze’s second try following another penalty from Berdeu, but Racing quickly responded with a try through Kleo Labarbe, as in the first half.
