With the eighth-round stoppage of American Ramon Cardenas in Las Vegas, Japan’s Naoya Inoue climbed off the canvas to keep his status as undisputed super-bantamweight world champion.
Before referee Thomas Taylor intervened, Inoue recovered and unleashed a barrage of punches at the start of the eighth round after being knocked down for just the second time in his career in the second round.
With his 27th knockout victory, Inoue marked his first fight outside of Japan since 2021 with a record of 30-0.
Everyone is aware that Inoue enjoys brawling, she said.
When Inoue was dropped by a crushing underdog Cardenas late in the second round, he recovered, made it to the bell, and sat down.
Through a translator, Inoue continued, “I was very surprised but I was able to calmly pull myself together.”
“I thought I had a good distance in the first round, but it kind of got a little loose in the second round. I made sure I didn’t repeat that punch right away.
Inoue launched an attack, but Cardenas refused to back down, so the pair fought back in a bruising fourth round.
At the conclusion of round seven, Inoue’s strength eventually became too great, leading to Cardenas’ brutal bodyshot wounds, which were followed by four right hands to the head.
At the start of the eighth, he completed the task and sent Cardenas scurrying into the ropes with yet another punishment just before the referee intervened.
With the seventh-round stoppage of American Edward Vazquez, Mexico’s unbeaten Rafael Espinosa increased to 27-0 on the undercard.
The Golden State Warriors won Game 7 103-89 to seal their spot in the NBA playoffs, beating the Houston Rockets in the process.
The Indiana Pacers gave Cleveland, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, a 121-116 defeat in Game 1 to put them in the final game of the conference, which had just begun earlier on Sunday.
Buddy Hield, who is playing in his 11th playoff game for the Warriors, made nine 3-pointers on 11 attempts to score a game-high 33 points.
The Warriors finally defeated the second-seeded Rockets, who were coming off two dominant victories and who saw the potential of being only the 14th team to come back from 3-1 down and defeat them in the NBA playoff series, with the score of 14 of Stephen Curry’s 22 points in the fourth quarter.
“A lot of resilience,” Curry said. Everyone is “stepping up,” Everyone has praised our team’s performance, energy, and other qualities over the past two games.
We ostensibly understood that we had 48 minutes to dig in and blocked it out. Everyone made a contribution.
After the Warriors faced the Minnesota Timberwolves in a second-round matchup, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated in five games, Curry remarked, “Buddy Hield was unbelievable”.
With 33.3 seconds left in the first half, Curry made his first basket with a 3-pointer.
However, Hield was outstanding, making six 3-pointers in the first half and adding ten points in the second half to give the Warriors a 51-39 halftime lead.
Before the Rockets rallied, reducing their deficit to three, they extended the lead to as many as 15.
Houston made just six 3-pointers and trailed 70-62 heading into the fourth quarter, but Amen Thompson added 21 and grabbed nine rebounds with 21 for the Rockets.
Curry then burst out with five straight points, opening the frame. With 2:31 left, the Warriors extended their lead to 20 points with a run that included Jimmy Butler and six points.
Curry claimed that Butler’s arrival from Miami in February contributed to Golden State’s late playoff push and that he had 20 points.
It means the world to us to develop chemistry on the fly, foster trust on the go, and deliver in a manner consistent with our own, Curry said.
“Mission accomplished, step one,” reads the statement.

Pacers defeat No. 1 seed Cavaliers
Andrew Nembhard scored a team-high 23 points from five of Indiana’s 19 3-point attempts in Cleveland. The Pacers, who had six players score in double figures, added 22 points and 13 assists.
The Pacers’ 119-118 overtime victory over the Milwaukee Bucks earned them the first-round playoff victory, according to Haliburton, who had scored the game-winner.
In the first quarter, Indiana led 36-25 with 10 of Pascal Siakam’s 17 points.
A 33-point performance from Cleveland’s star Donovan Mitchell and 17 own turnovers, which totaled 22 points, provided the Pacers.
With 3: 16 minutes left in the third period, Evan Mobley’s hook shot gave Cleveland a one-point lead before the game ended.
Mobley finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but it was obvious that the Cavaliers had missed All-Star guard Darius Garland, who had a toe sprained for the third game in a row.
With a 15-4 scoring run by Indiana, they were unable to respond.
Haliburton remarked, “We overcame the storm.” We made the transition by making stops, running away, and playing Pacers basketball straight away.

Bolter: Noun, Australian informal – an outsider in a contest or race.
Perhaps it was a term picked up on a previous tour down under. For whatever reason, in the northern hemisphere at least, the concept of a bolter has become synonymous with Lions squad selection.
It refers to the inexperienced, overlooked and out of favour. Players propelled from leftfield to centre stage and on to the plane with the best of Britain and Ireland.
Back row Sam Simmonds, who had not been chosen for England in three years, was that pick when the Lions toured South Africa in 2021.
Some bolters have blossomed into Lions greats.
Jeremy Guscott and Martin Johnson had each made just one appearance for England before playing for the Lions. Jason Robinson was still learning the game after switching from rugby league.
Other gambles have not paid such dividends.
Owen Farrell

“I’d pick Owen Farrell. Who do you want in there when the going gets tough? Test-match animals.”
Back in October when he was asked by the Times who should start at fly-half for the first Test against the Wallabies, Johnny Sexton was retired from playing, working for a glass company and publicising his autobiography.
Now, intriguingly, Sexton has been signed up as a coach for the tour.
The fallout would be substantial, but head coach Andy Farrell might judge selecting his son worth it.
With little Lions Test experience among other potential 10s, three-time tourist Farrell brings an accountability and intensity few can match.
Even as a 21-year-old tour rookie in Australia in 2013, his communication and leadership were picked out as an example to the rest of the squad by captain Alun Wyn Jones.
Farrell has endured a difficult, injury-interrupted season with French club Racing 92, though he and his team have come into some welcome form recently, winning five out of seven matches since the former Saracen’s comeback from a groin problem in March.
Blair Murray

After a wretched run of 17 successive Test defeats and with no Welsh voice among Andy Farrell’s support staff, representation from The Dragons could be at an all-time low.
Wales have never supplied fewer than five players for a Lions squad. If they are to get up towards that figure again, then Blair Murray could be on the plane.
The Lions do not have huge depth at full-back.
Ireland’s Hugo Keenan will likely tour, but Scotland’s first-choice 15 Blair Kinghorn suffered a knee knock recently and would be a late arrival on tour with Toulouse destined for Top 14 play-offs.
England have shuffled between George Furbank, Freddie Steward and Marcus Smith over the past year.
Jamie Osborne

Debuts do not come much more imposing than away and at altitude against the world champion Springboks. Add playing in a position you have not started a game in for nearly two years and you understand the extent of Jamie Osborne’s Test baptism.
However, the 23-year-old scored a try, kept his place and was part of a team that shared the series spoils in South Africa.
Osborne is a slight but rangy runner, with deft hands, aerial ability, a kicking game and an understanding with the Leinster and Ireland team-mates who will make up a large touring contingent.
The clincher though could be his versatility.
Tom Jordan

Another with the ability to fill a few backline vacancies.
Jordan was playing semi-professional rugby with Ayrshire Bulls until 2021 and only made his Scotland debut in November.
He has seized the chance opened up by an injury to Sione Tuipulotu though, and was integral to Scotland’s sharp backline in the Six Nations, with clever support lines, a step and a good offloading game.
With England’s Ollie Lawrence out through injury – one of the favourites for a midfield role in Australia – Jordan could benefit from another’s misfortune once again.
George Ford

Can a bolter come with 99 Test caps already to their name?
George Ford has slipped down the England fly-half pecking order, with first Marcus Smith and then Fin Smith steering the ship.
But Ford has been in dazzling club form for Sale, playing close to the line and easing open holes for himself or runners. His one cameo in the Six Nations – a 25-minute replacement appearance against Wales – featured more sublime touches.
He has never toured with the Lions and, at 32, is unlikely to if he misses out this time.
Scott Cummings

Cummings’ injury absence attracted fewer headlines than the loss of captain Tuipulotu, but arguably was just as damaging to Scotland’s Six Nations campaign given his front-five heft and nous.
The 28-year-old second row is only just back from his broken arm, making an appearance off the bench in Glasgow’s loss to the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship (URC).
Nicky Smith

The mid-Six Nations bounce that stand-in coach Matt Sherratt coaxed out of Wales included drafting in an all-new front row.
Nicky Smith was one of those promoted and his scrummaging provided a platform for a vastly improved showing against Ireland.
Signed by Leicester last summer, he has also been key to Tigers’ push towards the Premiership play-offs under Michael Cheika.
With Ellis Genge and Andrew Porter expected to fill two of three loose-head spots, he would likely have to edge out Scotland’s Pierre Schoeman to get a squad slot.

Could the Northampton flanker’s soaraway season finish on Lions duty?
There has been no sign of opposition taming the 20-year-old’s dynamism and energy in his breakthrough campaign.
An Under-20 World Cup winner with England last summer, he has become a mainstay in Saints’ back row, offering a turnover threat at the breakdown and massive metre-making in the loose.
He scored two tries as he made his England debut off the bench in the Six Nations and another in a hugely impressive victory over Leinster in the Champions Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Back row is fiercely competitive as ever, with exiled Englishman Jack Willis, playing at French side Toulouse, also in contention.
David Ribbans

Appointed Toulon co-captain after just a year in France, David Ribbans has acclimatised fast to life in the Top 14.
There is even a banner at Stade Mayol, with his face, a St George’s cross and the slogan ‘God Save Ribbans’.
The 29-year-old second row, who won 11 England caps before moving to France, has been in fantastic form, leading with physicality.
With victory at the Miami Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri continued their dominant Formula One campaign with a hat-trick of victories with a one-two victory.
Lando Norris, a British teammate, and George Russell of Mercedes, a Mercedes driver, came in third but 37.6 seconds ahead.
After winning in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Piastri won his third race in a row on Sunday, his fourth of the previous six this season.
Max Verstappen, a four-time world champion, finished in fourth place, Alex Albon, a 19-year-old Williams, and Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes, a sixth-place finisher.
“I knew I had a good pace advantage from the beginning, and I avoided Max in turn one,” Piastri said. “The car was fantastic today,” he said.
There are some things to work on because of the difficult stint I had a little trouble with. I’m eager to continue learning, but I’m thrilled to be leading Miami.
We were the slowest team in this room two years ago, and I believe we were lapped twice. We just won by 35 seconds in this case,” he continued.

Verstappen took the inside line on lap 14, but Piastri, who was fourth overall, was too late to stop and drove the car.
The Dutchman, a two-time champion at Miami, was told by his team radio, “Brakes man, honestly, useless,” and the Red Bull driver was unable to regain control of the lead once more.
Verstappen was nowhere to be found, but Norris had already taken the lead by lap 17 when Piastri opened up a 9-second lead.
The team did a fantastic job, so I can’t fault them, said Norris, “but it’s never the best feeling] to be second.”
It’s a good feeling because we were driving up the road. Oscar handled the situation well, and Max always put up a strong fight, so it is. He said, “I paid the price for not doing a good enough job today, but I’m still happy to be second.”
Russell was pleased to be on the podium despite finishing second to his teammate Antonelli in the sprint race despite experiencing some issues.
“Really happy to receive P3, given that I personally struggled this weekend. He said, “Well done, McLaren, they were just too far down the road.”
Ferrari had yet another disappointing day, with Lewis Hamilton a distant second and Charles Leclerc seventh.
In his first season with the Italian team, Hamilton frequently expressed frustration with the race’s tactics, particularly after being told to let Leclerc pass him.
After making an aggressive overtaking attempt in the final corner, Carlos Sainz, the Williams driver, and his stewardship were subjected to a steward investigation.
Oscar Piastri, a McLaren driver from Australia, crosses the finish line on May 4, 2025 at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida, United States.
Celebrities and socialites from the Met Gala are gathered annually to raise money for the Costume Institute. What does the dress code for this year’s event mean?

For most of us, the first Monday of May isn’t that monumental. However, for celebrities and socialites, this is the biggest weekend of their year. The first Monday of May marks the annual Met Gala. With 400-650 attendees ranging from beloved film stars and record-selling singers to fashion designers and industry leaders, all of whom were invited by Anna Wintour and Vogue, the Met Gala is akin to Christmas for fashion enthusiasts.
The Met Gala is an annual haute couture fundraiser held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, specifically to support the Costume Institute. This event is celebrated as the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion gathering, attracting top figures from the film, music, and fashion industries.
1948’s inaugural Met Gala, which was originally known as the “Costume Institute Benefit,” took place. Through raising money and raising awareness, renowned fashionista Eleanor Lambert organized this charity event to benefit the Costume Institute.

Following Diana Vreeland’s appointment as a consultant for the Institute, the event later underwent a cultural transformation. Following this appointment, the charity’s benefit moved to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and introduced annual themes that reflected the Institute.
Since 1995, Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, has overseen the event, approving everything from the sponsors to the guest lists and evening attire, as well as the designers chosen to dress which celebrities.

On May 5th, the Met Gala will take over Manhattan, and this is everything you need to know. The annual event pays homage to Black dandyism, and its iconic themes are well known for it.
The ‘ Tailored for You’ dress code for this year’s gala is ‘ Tailored for You’, which is in line with the new exhibition titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” that will run through the museum from May 10 through October 26, 2025. With a particular emphasis on menswear, the theme will explore how clothing and style influence Black identities within the Atlantic diaspora.

Andrew Bolton, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s chief curator, primarily chose the dress code for this year. The book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity” by Monica L. Miller infuses it with inspiration.
This theme focuses on how tailoring and style influence the development of Black identities. The Met Gala will highlight men’swear for the first time since “Men in Skirts” in 2003, not to mention.
The dress code is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” according to the Met. A new chairman is chosen each year along with a co-chair group to promote the event, represent its theme, and control its flow, especially during red-carpet events and public appearances.
