Sinners has been a huge success with critics and audiences alike, and fans will be grateful to know that the box office hit is about to land on streaming services after releasing in cinemas just last month. A collaboration between writer-director Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan, Sinners sees the Creed star playing both twin brothers Smoke and Stack in a thrilling new film.

The plot follows their return to their Mississippi hometown to begin fresh, but when they encounter a band of vampires traveling, things start to get spooky.

Since its release in cinemas at the beginning of April, Sinners has dominated at the box office alongside Marvel’s latest release Thunderbolts and the sixth instalment in the Final Destination franchise.

Anyone who didn’t have time to make a trip to the theater will now be able to watch it as it wraps up its nearly two-month-long theatrical run, according to reports that it will be available on streaming services like Prime Video and Apple TV on June 3.

The movie received a phenomenal 99% on the critics’ website Rotten Tomatoes after its initial launch. It has dropped just two points over the past few months, but it has impressed website users with a 96% overall score.

One Google reviewer who rated the film five stars heaped on the praise: “Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is a cinematic triumph that blends gripping storytelling with raw emotion, and at the heart of it all is a powerhouse performance by Michael B. Jordan that will be remembered for years to come.”

While another particularly impressed with Jordan’s performance added: “What a beauty! Michael B. Jordan delivers a career-high performance in his double role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Miles Caton as Sammie, the blues guitarist, steals every scene he’s in with a soulful, electric presence. Everyone else is great in their roles too. The film pulls you into its universe, and you become completely immersed.”

The movie even received an A on CinemaScore, marking the first horror movie in its 47-year history to achieve the score, despite critics typically rating horror movies.

Coach blames heavy tennis balls for Raducanu form

Images courtesy of Getty

The British number two’s attempts to join the elite’s of the world, according to Mark Petchey, Emma Raducanu’s coach, are impacted by heavier tennis balls, among other factors.

Iga Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, defeated Raducanu 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of the French Open on Wednesday, toppling Raducanu.

The US Open champion from 2021 is ranked 41st in the world and has only won one of her nine professional matches against top-five players.

It’s difficult on Emma from my perspective because I still believe everyone will live in 2021, Petchey, who has been coaching Raducanu since March under an “informal” arrangement.

“The games have drastically changed,” Petchey asserted.

He continued, “Emma isn’t the biggest hitter out there, and the balls are four times heavier than back in 2021,” exaggerating further to make the point that he was making an exaggeration.

You’re going to get into trouble if you can’t put the ball through the court against someone like Iga on a windy, heavy clay court day.

Former British number one Andy Murray, age 18, was trained by Petchey for 10 months in 2006 to help him reach the top 50, and Raducanu was trained during the pandemic summer of 2020.

In their coverage of Roland Garros, he is combining his coaching duties with his work as a pundit for TNT Sports.

Petchey remarked, “She needs to start closing the gap between the best players,” since I started helping Emma.

She doesn’t need me to choose between 20 and 50 in the world, and she needs to make the right choice if I don’t.

You are beginning your career now, in my opinion. Everyone is making judgments about what transpired in 2021, but in reality, I want to see you launching a career in this country where no one else will ever hear about it.

Since Nick Cavaday left as a full-time coach in January for health reasons, Raducanu has not had a full-time coach.

Are balls “four times as heavy” as those from 2021?

Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios are just two of the tennis players who have expressed concerns about the weight and speed of their balls recently.

Players are forced to adapt to various types of balls throughout the season, even for the Grand Slams, because tournaments are not required to sign their own contracts and balls from different manufacturers are far from identical.

Since 1902, Dunlop has supplied the balls for the Australian Open, while Slazenger balls have been used at Wimbledon. Wilson’s balls are currently used in the French Open and US Open.

The ATP Tour’s official ball is Dunlop, a contract that runs until 2028.

Many players believe that fluffy balls, which become more heavy and slow, cause more injuries, but the organizers are now using them to promote longer rallies.

However, there are strict rules governing the types of balls allowed in professional competitions.

A ball used in a game must weigh between 56g and 59.4g according to the International Tennis Federation’s regulations. Since 2000, the required weight range has changed from 56.7 to 58.5 grams.

The maximum change in mass allowed during play is 0. 4g, according to the same rules.

Additionally, the balls must pass a number of other tests, including durability, bounce, deformation, and how it changes shape during a game.

Man City Chief Promises ‘Swift’ Transfer Deals For Club World Cup

In the weeks leading up to the Club World Cup, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised that Pep Guardiola’s squad will continue to improve.

City endured a disappointing season in the manner of Guardiola’s standards following an unprecedented four consecutive Premier League titles.

They lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace, who had finished them a distant third in the Premier League, won just three of their ten games in the competition, and were the only ones to come away with a trophy since 2016/17.

Khaldoon acknowledged last year’s “aggressive” behavior by the club to rejuvenate their squad.

At a combined cost of more than £172 million ($232 million), City responded in January by signing Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Omar Marmoush.

Despite Guardiola’s plea to work with a smaller squad for the following season, more players are anticipated before the club world cup begins on June 14.

In his yearly end-of-season interview, Khaldoon said, “We had to act this January.”

Andreeva, a Russian teenager, enters the third round of the French Open.

“Four players (came in) in January, which gives you an idea of what’s in store for us this summer,” the player said.

We have our clear number one and two options, and we have clearly identified who exactly are the targets and where.

“And we’ll proceed with our business very clearly and quickly. And we want to make sure the new squad is ready for the Club World Cup.

Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest, Rayan Cherki of Lyon, and Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan are just a few players linked with moves to the Etihad.

During the worst of City’s difficulties, Guardiola extended his contract with the club until 2027.

Khaldoon is confident that the English team that has dominated the last ten years will soon regain its dominance.

“We’ll return,” the message. This season is now over. A new day has arrived today. He continued, “We are getting ready for the upcoming season.”

This club will do everything in its power to return to the standards that we are all capable of and know we will be.

US to revoke Chinese student visas: What’s the likely impact?

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the administration of President Donald Trump would “aggressively” revoke Chinese student visas.

The move comes at a time when Washington and Beijing are attempting to reach a trade agreement to end the world’s two largest economies’ spiraling tariff war. The Trump administration is currently trying to impose restrictions on international students attending US universities.

Rubio’s announcement is the most dramatic action a US administration has ever taken against students from any particular nation, despite China hawks in the US calling for greater oversight of the country’s students at American universities and alleging that some of them may be Beijing’s spies.

How might it affect students, American universities, US-China relations, and the US itself:

What has Rubio announced?

Rubio stated in an X-post that “the US will begin revoking visas of Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or those studying in important fields.”

What qualifies as a “critical field” is not defined by the US. However, a House of Representatives-led US congressional committee sent a letter to senior academic institutions in California and the United States in March asking for information about Chinese students enrolling in advanced science, technology, engineering, and medicine programs on their campuses.

The chairman of the congressional committee, John Moolenaar, claimed that China was putting its students in top research programs to access sensitive technology.

According to Moolenaar, “The Chinese Communist Party has established a well-documented, systematic pipeline to embed researchers in leading US institutions, giving them direct exposure to sensitive technologies with dual-use military applications,” adding that many Chinese students who have earned degrees immigrate to the US or other Western nations.

This pattern raises important questions about how much knowledge is ultimately transferred back to China once they have gained expertise in highly developed fields, he said.

Rubio did not specify what “connections” would be made between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the only significant political party in the one-party nation of China. One in every four Chinese citizens has an immediate relative in the CCP, which is equivalent to about 100 million card-carrying citizens in a nation with 400 million families.

A press release with the title “New Visa Policies Put America First, Not China” was also published by the US State Department website.

Rubio continued, “We will also change the visa requirements to improve the scrutiny of all pending applications for visas from Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China.”

Rubio made the announcement following a memo that stated the US had ordered its foreign embassies to halt scheduling visa interviews for all foreign students while the State Department plans to expand the social media screening of applicants.

What has China done to date?

Beijing has criticized the Trump administration’s action, calling it “political and discriminatory.”

Under the pretext of ideology and national rights, the US has unlawfully suspended visas for Chinese students, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning on Thursday. China has filed representations with the US and is steadfast against this.

Mao added that the US government’s decision had “seriously damaged” the rights of Chinese students and undermined Washington and Beijing’s standard cultural exchange.

Mao remarked that “the US has exposed the lies of the so-called freedom and openness that the US has always promoted” and that this is a result of its political and discriminatory behavior.

The spokesperson added that the action “further damaged the US’s own international reputation, reputation, and credibility.”

How many students study in China?

According to the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the US State Department’s annual Open Doors report, 277, 398 Chinese students enrolled in US universities between the academic year 2023 and 2024, making up 24.5 percent of the 1.13 million international students.

Only Indian students outnumbered Chinese students. According to Open Doors, India took the top spot for the first time since 2009 during the academic year 2024-2024.

Which universities have a sizable student body from China?

China accounted for 46.8% of the world’s total student population at Carnegie Mellon University as of 2023, making up the top nation of origin for international students.

More than half of the international student body, or 51.6%, are Chinese students at New York University.

China accounts for 51.6% of New York University’s international student population, making up the country’s top-one nation of origin. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the university had 14, 072 Chinese students out of 27, 247 foreign students.

According to a report from Duke University, the institute had 5, 000 international students in 2024, with China and India as its main two countries of origin.

According to the institute’s website, China accounts for half of Northwestern University’s international student population. The Northwestern University Graduate Workers wrote an open letter to universities on Thursday, urging them to reject the congressional committee’s March requests for information about Chinese students.

What kind of income do these students bring to the US?

US universities make billions of dollars from international students’ tuition costs. However, these students also benefit local economies.

According to data released by the non-profit organization NAFSA: Association of International Educators, international students studying at US colleges and universities contributed $43.8 billion to the country’s economy and supported more than 378, 000 jobs between the academic years 2023-2024.

According to a NAFSA release from November 2024, this economic activity is the organization’s highest estimate ever.

According to NAFSA data, there are 1.1 million foreign students studying in the US, which means that an international student contributes about $ 39,800 to the economy each year.

According to that calculation, the US economy that year would have been made up of more than $11 billion if there had been 277, 398 Chinese students studying there in 2023-2024.

What kind of impact have graduates from China made on the US?

International students in the US make a significant contribution to American innovation once they graduate, according to a study conducted by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) in 2022. 55% of US-based startups valued at more than a billion dollars were founded by immigrants.

More than 50, 000 Chinese PhD scientists have resided in the US since 2000, funding scientific research and founding startups that had a combined $100 billion in 2022.

According to the NFAP, they include 21 billion-dollar businesses, some of which are also known as unicorns.

Pony is one of these recognizable unicorns. AI, a technology company for autonomous driving, was founded in 2016 and is currently valued at $6.4 billion on the NASDAQ exchange. James Peng and Lou Tiancheng, both of whom received undergraduate degrees from Beijing’s Tsinghua University, founded the business. Co-founder Peng is a Stanford University PhD holder.

Andreeva, who is hoping to become the youngest woman to win a Grand Slam since her compatriot Maria Sharapova’s famous 2004 Wimbledon triumph, praised her for “keeping my calm and finding a way in the end” (p. 2).

During her run in 2024, which included a shocking quarter-final victory over Aryna Sabalenka, she was still required to complete schoolwork.

“My school is no longer where I belong.” I’ve finished. I’m done. So, we can only thank God. Andreeva remarked, “I have one problem less.”

She won a WTA 1000 title in February, earning her career-high ranking of sixth, earning her sixth straight victory, and earning another one at Indian Wells.

With Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek as the other half of the field, Andreeva has been widely anticipated for a strong Roland Garros performance.

She described her career priorities as “I would choose to win a Slam first,” not “being world number one.”

World No. 35 Krueger broke Andreeva in the opening set, but the match saw five more wins in a row.

Martin Clunes has divulged his daily trio of health-boosting habits, including one exercise he swears by.

Now edging into his mid-60s, the esteemed Doc Martin actor shared how embracing the 5:2 diet led to an incredible three-stone weight loss.

This regime involves eating normally for five days and fasting for two, but that’s not all Martin is doing to stay on top of his wellbeing.

In an exclusive chat with Woman’s Weekly, Martin confided that sticking to chia seeds, curtailing alcohol intake, and planking every day have become indispensable in preserving his health. Martin added that doing so has been a “lifeline” for his back issues.

The 63-year-old actor acknowledged the notable health perks he’s experienced thanks to these lifestyle adjustments, reports Surrey Live. It’s a sentiment echoed by health gurus who attest to the positive effects such practices can have on someone’s health.

These tiny yet mighty seeds may be bland in taste, but their capacity to jazz up meals ranging from brekkie yoghurts to fiery curries with a burst of crunch is unmatched. Their true claim to fame, however, lies in the impressive host of health benefits they harbour within.

According to Healthline, the seeds’ rich fiber and omega-3 content could be game-changers for cardiovascular health: “Given that chia seeds are high in fiber and omega-3s, consuming them may reduce your risk of heart disease.

“Soluble fiber, the kind primarily found in chia seeds, can help lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol in your blood. In turn, this can reduce your risk of heart disease.”

Moreover, Healthline highlighted another key aspect of the food, and another reason why their high fibre content might be crucial, stating that the significant levels of fibre may assist in regulating blood sugar.

Hence, due to the high fibre content of chia seeds, the superfood could potentially help in reducing the likelihood of developing diabetes.

Health benefits of planking

While planking is a part of many gym routines, many will be unaware of the long-term health benefits of this endurance exercise that actor Martin swears by.

One of the primary health benefits of planking is that it aids in building our core strength which has numerous long-term advantages. Indeed, one study seemed to support the positive impact that planking has had on Martin’s back recently.

As Healthline noted: “A 2017 study suggests a correlation between decreased core back muscle quality and ageing. The researchers emphasise the need for intervention in older adults with back pain, particularly for people who are overweight.”
