Jorginho is “recovering well” from a lung injury, according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who may start playing again this year.
The 33-year-old made his final appearance on April 12 when he was taken off in the final few minutes of Brentford’s 1-1 draw with a suspected chest injury.
Arteta said: “It got a little more complicated than expected” before Saturday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth (17:30 BST). He’s recovering well, and he’s fine.
The Italian’s injuries have been reported by sources, but Arsenal have not confirmed any details.
Arteta added that if everything turns out well in the next week or so, he might see his vice-captain playing once more this year.
Jorginho is about to leave Arsenal’s final weeks of his contract before the new year.
Since joining Chelsea in a £12 million deal in January 2023, the midfielder has made 78 appearances.
After having surgery on his hamstring, Kai Havertz is also making progress toward potentially playing once more this year.
The German international needed surgery after suffering a serious muscle tear during Arsenal’s winter training trip to Dubai in February.
He was scheduled to miss the remainder of the season, but he is recovering well and is now expected to return before the end of the season.
After falling to Paris St-Germain at home on Wednesday, Arsenal will face them in the semifinal match.
As the batting lineup for the marquee series against India and Australia later this year is in doubt, England selector Luke Wright said, “runs are the currency.”
Ollie Pope and opener Zak Crawley have been chosen for this month’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.
Jacob Bethell impressed in his first series against New Zealand but is unable to face Zimbabwe because he is in the Indian Premier League, making up for it for both men.

Sam Cook, an uncapped Essex seamer, is selected for the team’s inexperienced pace attack due to other bowlers’ injuries.
Dan Worrall, a Surrey international, might have been considered after winning the England qualifying round, but Wright claimed the selectors have not spoken with him, who had previously played three one-day internationals for Australia.
After recovering from hamstring surgery, Wright added that captain Ben Stokes could play an integral role as an all-rounder under the guidance of Wright.
We’ll need to check whether he doesn’t do too much, Wright said. He has a propensity to sway. We’ll just need to watch him a little to make sure he’s not overdoing it.
In one of England Lions’ two matches against India A at the end of May and the beginning of June, Stokes could improve his bowling.
Jofra Archer, who has recovered from a string of injuries with ease, may be in his place.
If Archer plays for the Lions, it would be his first red-ball game in more than four years, despite Archer’s current IPL status. Additionally, it would mean West Indies would have to play some white-ball matches following the Zimbabwe Test.

The rumors started when Brassic’s writer, Danny Brocklehurst, revealed that the show wouldn’t be returning after its seventh series, which is currently being filmed. After rocket fire directed at Israel and led to counterstrikes, Lebanon’s top security body has warned the Palestinian organization Hamas against using the country’s territory for purposes that might threaten national security.
Following a 14-month conflict between Israel and the armed Lebanese group Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, the Higher Defence Council issued the warning on Friday as Lebanon was under growing US pressure to disarm organizations outside state control.
The country’s authorities are also attempting to establish their authority throughout, particularly in the south, close to Israel’s border.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israel has nearly daily violated the US-brokered November 2024 truce, including three airstrikes against Beirut as a result.
Lebanon should not be a launchpad for instability, the council’s president Joseph Aoun said in a statement, or it should be drawn into pointless wars.
The phrase “the utmost measures and necessary procedures will be put to end any act that violates Lebanese sovereignty” was added.
Aoun, who previously served as army commander, has pledged to bring all weapons under the state’s control, but he has acknowledged that the US has been pressing Lebanon to do, making it “diculous” to disarm it.
The council’s secretary-general, Mohammad al-Mustafa, told reporters on Friday that while Aoun emphasized the importance of Palestinian rights, he also emphasized that Lebanese stability should not be compromised.
Hamas has a long history in Lebanon, including in camps that house tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees who have been there for a long time and for whom Lebanese security forces have lacked authority.
After Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, when Israel launched a massive bombardment campaign in Gaza, Hamas fighters in Lebanon launched rockets across the southern border into Israel in solidarity with Palestinians.
In addition to the deputy chief of Hamas, an Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have since caused several Hamas commanders to lose their lives, including the group’s deputy chief in early 2024.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to carry out deadly raids on Lebanon because of security concerns.
The Lebanese army detained Lebanese and Palestinian people accused of firing rockets at Israel on March 22 and 28 in an effort to address Israel’s and the US’s concerns, which brokered the ceasefire.
Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the attacks, despite the fact that no one has claimed responsibility for them.
A Lebanese security source confirmed to the AFP news agency that Hamas members had been detained.
Russell Brand, a British comedian and actor, was facing five rape and other sex-related charges in a London court on Friday.
Brand, 49, was charged last month after establishing himself as the husband of pop star Katy Perry with his risky comedy routines.
He is accused of two counts of rape, two of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault.
Brand made his way through the crowd of reporters and outsiders as he prepared for the first court hearing in the case.
