Nigeria Is Very Popular Not Only In Music — Davido

Nigerian culture is having a moment, according to Davido’s perspective.

The 32-year-old Afrobeats star noted the film, food, and fashion influence that his country is increasingly exporting to the rest of the world in a recent interview with AFP in Paris. “We’re very popular, not just in music,” the Afrobeats star said.

His response to the criticism that American artists are starting to devalue the sound of Afrobeats is: “I like it.”

The self-described citizen of the world, the Nigerian-American artist sees the continent’s future as a result of its reliance on those who remain at home rather than its influent diaspora.

He told AFP, “Everyone has the American dream.” Every child who grows up in Africa would like to travel to America. That is cool. Visitation is acceptable, but don’t leave your belongings there.

For his fellow citizens who are dealing with the worst economic crisis in a generation, those words might be difficult to swallow.

The Yoruba word for “escape” (japa) has recently become popular as slang for moving to greener, richer pastures.

Davido, who was born David Adedeji Adeleke in Atlanta, explores the tension between a growing, active Nigeria of more than 200 million people and a region that finally appears to be waking up to the so-called Giant of Africa.

He confidently tells AFP that his new album, “5ive,” will “touch every corner of the world.”

“The French people will enjoy our music.” The Caribbean people will enjoy our music. He claimed that there is music available for everyone, including Americans and Africans.

It’s similar to a complete, global album in every way.

Eight million listeners are monthly.

With more than 8 million monthly listeners, including King Charles of Great Britain, Davido is driving the global Afrobeats craze.

However, African music also includes Davido as a result.

He enthusiastically recalls that his parents were always playing music at the house, going to school, and playing music in the car. “I grew up in an African household.”

A cousin in the industry took a teenager to a studio where “for the first time, I saw someone create music… African music.”

A grey conical woollen cap and jewelry dangling over a black T-shirt, Davido said, “when I fell in love with it.”

By the age of 16, he was mixing and mastering his own tunes, drawing inspiration from Nigerian duo P-Square, who had some of their hits influenced by American influences like Michael Jackson.

Davido now sees musical influence from artists cross the Atlantic to the other.

In response to questions about critics who accuse American artists of trying to imitate the Afrobeats style, he said, “It’s a privilege for another culture to try to imitate what you’re doing.”

“We also perform hip-hop in Nigeria.” Rappers are present. There are individuals who perform R&amp and B.

Music is understood as a universal language. Therefore, I don’t think that’s a problem.

Davido has “Unavailable” and “Aye” on his list of well-known tracks.

African music’s narrative has been altered.

Davido claimed despite his worldly perspective, he still has an eye on Nigeria.

He told AFP, “We’ve been going through difficult times.” “Nigeria has a lot of talent, grace, and opportunity.

Why don’t we sing about (Nigeria’s struggles) in our music, I was asked. he recalled. That’s not the kind of music my people would really like to hear, man.

In the past, I have sung about it. But more often than not, I speak out against it in Africa.

He is aware of where at least a portion of his success has come from as he prepares to travel the world, making stops in Paris, London, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.

“African music has altered the way people perceive people as being viewed around the world.”

JoJo Siwa’s ex Kath Ebbs issues ‘attack’ warning with bombshell statement

Celebrity Big Brother star JoJo Siwa dumped her partner of seven-months, Kath Ebbs, at the wrap party of the ITV show after growing close to housemate Chris Hughes

JoJo Siwa’s ex Kath Ebbs says their character has been ‘attacked’ in fiery statement

JoJo Siwa’s ex Kath Ebbs has issued a stark warning to the Dance Moms star saying ‘attacks on my character are not something I take lightly.’ Australian actress Kath, 27, said that they were dumped by JoJo, 21, at the Celebrity Big Brother afterparty when they flew to the UK to celebrate JoJo making it to the final of the ITV show.

However, after JoJo developed an incredibly close bond with fellow housemate and former Love Island star Chris Hughes, 32, she said that she had ‘many realisations’ while being immersed in the experiment.

When the final came around after her three weeks in the house, JoJo told the media that she had a realisation that she actually wasn’t as happy as she thought she was and being on the show made her look at her life and what she wanted from the future.

JoJo, who had been dating Kath for seven months before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house, called off their relationship on Friday night during the TV afterparty. Naturally, after travelling half-way across the world to celebrate their partner, Kath was left blindsided and heartbroken by JoJo’s decision to dump them on the night – and they have faced a lot of hate online since – especially due to JoJo and Chris’ incredibly close friendship.

In a statement, Kath told the Mirror: “It’s really unfortunate that my relationship with this person is being reduced to untrue allegations about what happened at a party. The public has only heard one side of the story. Attacks on my character are not something I take lightly, especially from someone I cared for deeply and shared a committed relationship with.”

It comes as JoJo landed back to her hometown of LA this week. Upon arrival, she appeared to make a cutting dig at Kath. Just days earlier, Kath went public with the news that JoJo ended their relationship at the CBB wrap party. Posting on Instagram, the Australian content creator described the moment as a “complete shock,” saying they felt “numbed out and humiliated” by the split.

While back in the US, JoJo hinted that her time in the house prompted deep self-reflection. “Can I be honest? No,” she said when asked if she was happy to be home. “I want to go back, I want to go back.”

Pressed about what she learned during her time on the show, she subtly alluded to her personal life, saying: “Probably [that I] learned more about myself… I think that I had a lot of things in my life I wasn’t happy about. And being there forced me to change that, and that’s good. I needed that.”

While JoJo was finding clarity inside the CBB house, Kath was navigating heartbreak on the outside. They later hinted on social media that JoJo’s connection with fellow housemate Chris played a role in the breakup. One commenter remarked, “Imagine watching your partner fall in love with someone else in real time,” to which Kath quietly affirmed by liking the post.

Though JoJo has yet to directly confirm romantic feelings for the Love Island alum, she’s been vocal about the tight-knit relationship they formed. “It was incredible, it was life changing, it was magical,” she said about the Celebrity Big Brother experience. “I got to meet a best friend,” she added, referencing Chris as she loaded her luggage into a car.

The pair’s close bond sparked plenty of speculation, and during a recent appearance on This Morning, Chris offered clarity. “It’s a soulmate friendship,” he explained. “It’s not your typical friendship, but it’s still a friendship. We’re friends.”

JoJo echoed the sentiment, saying, “He’s a gorgeous boy, look, he’s a great guy… it is platonic, we have a lot of fun together.” She added thoughtfully, “Life is life and I don’t know any future of anything but I’m really grateful for the dynamic that we have and the bond that we have. Whatever life does, life will do.”

Kate Middleton borrows Claudia Winkleman’s Traitors wardrobe with cashmere piece they both love

Both Claudia Winkleman and Kate Middleton are a known fan of Johnstons of Elgin, and Princess Kate’s green jumper looks like it was straight out of Claudia’s Traitors wardrobe

Royal fans were delighted when Prince William and Kate Middleton made two public appearances earlier this week, as they headed on a two-day visit to the Isles of Mull and Iona. Whilst taking the ferry across to the Isle of Iona, Princess Kate opted for a countryside-ready outfit – and it looked like she’d been taking notes from Claudia Winkleman’s iconic looks on The Traitors.

Claudia’s chic country outfits have become the star of the BBC show – which is also filmed in Scotland – and she helped make Johnstons of Elgin’s cashmere pieces a coveted wardrobe staple. Kate is also no stranger to the brand’s luxurious cashmere pieces, having previously worn several cosy jumpers from them in the past.

During her ferry ride the Princess of Wales was seen wearing a moss green V-neck jumper, and although we can’t say for sure, it looks just like Johnstons of Elgin’s Classic Cashmere V Neck in the shade olive green. The cosy jumper is priced at £425 and is made from 100% two ply cashmere, with a relaxed fit and V-neckline.

FIONNPHORT, SCOTLAND - APRIL 30: Catherine, Princess of Wales, known as the Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, returns from the island of Iona on a public ferry on April 30, 2025 in Fionnphort, Scotland. The Prince and Princess of Wales are on a two-day visit to the Isles of Mull and Iona on the 29th and 30th of April to engage with rural island communities. During their time on the islands, they will connect with local residents, highlighting the value of social bonds and underscoring the importance of safeguarding and advocating for the natural environment. Kate teamed her green jumper with a broderie anglaise blouse, tweed blazer, skinny jeans and a pair of heeled ankle boots – all of which have been worn by Claudia on The Traitors. One of Claudia’s most sought-after pieces from this year’s series was her Cashmere &amp, Wool Gun Club Shacket, which also hailed from Johnstons of Elgin.

Although the exact pattern of Claudia’s jacket is now sold out (it was filmed last year, after all), you can still grab her cashmere shacket in a similar grey and charcoal check, or in a beige herringbone print. If you want to copy Kate’s green jumper but your budget won’t quite stretch to the £425 Classic Cashmere V Neck, we found some other more affordable picks.

This Estheme Cashmere Jumper V-Neck Linen In Khaki Green is £115 from Elizabeth Rose and comes in a deep green shade similar to Kate’s. Elsewhere, this Lewis Lambswool V Neck Jumper from Schoffel is £120, and whilst it’s technically from the men’s section, it’s perfect for getting that laid back, relaxed look that Claudia has.

For something extra affordable, the Khaki V-Neck Stretch Jumper from Roman Originals is just £25. Whilst it’s not made from cashmere, it has a soft touch finish and a slouchy “boyfriend fit” that makes it a winner.

I have never spoken to McDonald – Bancroft

Getty Images

Batter Cameron Bancroft says he is still motivated to earn a recall to Australia’s Test side but has never spoken to head coach Andrew McDonald.

Opener Bancroft, 32, played the last of his 10 Tests against England in 2019.

He was dropped after four failures at the start of that summer’s Ashes series, having been recalled following his nine-month ban for his role in Australia’s ball-tampering scandal the previous year.

Asked if he believes the scandal is a factor in McDonald’s thinking, Bancroft told the BBC’s Stumped podcast: “I would like to think not.

“I have just been outside of that environment.

“The coaches have been focused on the team and the players involved.

McDonald became Australia coach in April 2022 in place of Justin Langer.

Under McDonald’s leadership, Australia won the 2023 World Cup, retained the Ashes in England in 2023 and won last winter’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Bancroft said he has spoken to Australia’s selectors – head selector George Bailey chairs meetings – in that time.

The Western Australian was the leading top-order batter across the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Sheffield Shield seasons when David Warner and Usman Khawaja were secure as Australia’s openers and then Steve Smith was promoted following Warner’s retirement.

With Smith moved back down to number four at the start of the last Australian summer an vacancy became available but Bancroft had a poor run of form and was overlooked for Nathan McSweeney and then 19-year-old Sam Konstas.

“Timing wasn’t great,” Bancroft said.

“Also the reality is form comes and goes, runs come and go. That’s just cricket.

“I have never spoken to Andrew McDonald.

“He has never spoken to me either. Understandably his focus is with the Australia team and that absolutely makes sense.”

Bancroft is currently captaining Gloucestershire in the County Championship and began the season with 163 against Glamorgan.

Konstas impressed with 60 on his Test debut against India in December but was overlooked for Australia’s most recent Test series in Sri Lanka, leaving doubt around who will partner Khawaja when Australia play South Africa in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June.

“Of course that [an Australia recall] is something that motivates me,” Bancroft said.

“I just try and go about my business and enjoy playing wherever I am, giving 100% to each ball and moment.

Shibutanis to return after seven years

American ice dance brother and sister Alex and Maia Shibutani are set to return to competitive figure skating, ending a seven-year hiatus during which Maia was diagnosed with cancer.

They took a break after winning bronze at the 2018 Winter Olympics, before Maia had surgery to remove a tumour from her kidney.

The pair, known as the Shib Sibs, have written four childrens ‘ books in their time away from the sport, but return with an eye on the 2026 Games in Milan and Cortina.

“These past seven years have challenged and inspired us in ways we never expected”, 30-year-old Maia said.

Aged 20 and 16, the Shibutanis won bronze at the 2011 World Championships, making them the youngest ice dancers in almost 50 years to win a world medal.

They also won silver in 2016 and bronze in 2017 and are two-time US champions.

They won bronze medals in the ice dance and the team event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, making history as the first athletes of Asian descent – their parents are Japanese – and only non-white team to earn an Olympic ice dance medal.

“Our experiences and the new skills we’ve developed during our time away from competition have brought us different perspectives and created some exciting new possibilities”, said 34-year-old Alex.

“We don’t take any of this for granted. We’re really enjoying the process and look forward to performing and competing together again”.

Justin Dillion, US figure skating’s senior director of athlete high performance, said it was “incredibly exciting”.

“They are strong ambassadors for the sport, both on and off the ice”, he said.
