US judge finds South Sudan-linked deportation flight violated court order

A federal judge in the United States has reportedly violated President Donald Trump’s administration’s injunction to deport migrants to South Sudan.

The Trump administration has been repeatedly criticized for ignoring court orders, but the announcement from US District Judge Brian Murphy on Wednesday sets up yet another judicial battle.

Judge Murphy, who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, has not yet disclosed what he will do in response to the glaring violation. That inquiry was put on hold until later.

However, he claimed that the passengers on Tuesday’s flight were not given enough time to file a deportation complaint, which was in violation of Murphy’s April 18 injunction.

A reasonable period of time had been granted to migrants who had been removed from their own country in a third-party country in order to challenge their deportations, according to Murphy’s ruling.

However, the Trump administration has repeatedly refuted claims that it will comply with policies’ arbitrary rules, instead branding judges like Murphy as “activists”.

Elainis Perez, a lawyer for Trump’s Justice Department, declined to confirm the location of the deportation flight during the court hearing on Wednesday, claiming that divulging the information raised “very serious operational and safety concerns.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also held a press conference to discuss the issue and support the deportation flight.

The passengers on board were accused of murder, armed robbery, rape, and sexual assault, according to acting ICE Director Todd Lyons.

Lyons remarked that “his country would not take him back” in the case of one immigrant. He referred to these nations as “recalcitrant.”

The removals were described as a “diplomatic and military security operation,” according to Tricia McLaughlin, a DHS spokesperson.

She claimed that eight migrants had been deported alone for safety reasons and that they are still in DHS custody despite having actually left the US.

She continued, citing security concerns, adding, “We cannot tell you where these people will ultimately end up.”

However, she did mention the possibility that their lawyers had indicated in court filings that they might be currently in South Sudan.

She continued, “We’re confirming the fact that that’s not their final destination,” adding, “I would caution you to assume that their final destination is South Sudan.”

Lawyers for the migrants claimed their clients were from Myanmar, Vietnam, and other nations in the court filings on Tuesday. They added that their clients don’t understand their removal notices because they only understand it through a translator.

They allegedly received no more than 24 hours’ notice before being deported. She claimed on Tuesday morning that she was informed that her client had been taken to South Sudan, a nation with a turbulent history and a history of human rights violations, as one lawyer attempted to locate him.

Due to the possibility that the migrants might face dangers in the nations they were deported to, Judge Murphy had previously ordered the migrants to have at least 15 days to file a grievance.

He has also ruled that the US government must keep the migrants in its custody and ensure their safety while the hearings take place.

McLaughlin, however, claimed that the “activist judge” was “trying to protect” the migrants, who she described as “some of the most barbaric, violent individuals.”

It is absurd for a district judge to try to dictate the United States of America’s foreign policy and national security, she said.

McLaughlin and the other officials also claimed that the Trump administration was seeking to relocate these people to “safe third countries.”

Because of their barbaric and monstrous crimes, she claimed, “no country on earth wanted to accept them.”

We found a country that was willing to accept custody of these vicious illegal aliens thanks to the courageous work of the State Department, ICE, and the president’s national security team.

As part of its justification for its “mass deportation,” the Trump administration has been accused of raising concerns about immigration-related crime among its citizens.

Lagos Excludes Water Sachets, PET Bottles From Single-Use Plastics Ban

The Lagos State government has made it clear that the single-use plastics (SUP) ban, which goes into effect on July 1st, 2025, does not apply to nylon carrier bags, PET bottles, or pure water sachets, which are more than 40 microns thick.

Tokunbo Wahab, the commissioner of environment and water resources in Lagos, made this disclosure available on Tuesday in a statement.

It adhered to what the government called “deliberate viral misrepresentations,” which suggested the ban was applicable to all types of SUPs.

Wahab reaffirmed that the state’s position is unchanged, noting that the ban only affects particular single-use plastic product categories.

The commissioner stated in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, that “our focus is still on styrofoam food packs, all types of polystyrene (disposable) cups, plastic straws, plastic cutlery, and all single-use carrier bags and nylons.”

The state government launched the Plastic Waste Management Fund, a collaborative effort between the government, producers, and Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs). To further its commitment, the state government set up the fund.

The fund, which will be jointly managed and used, will be used to address Lagos’ persistent problem of plastic waste, according to the commissioner. It will be funded by contributions from producers and significant importers.

Following the conclusion of an 18-month moratorium that was announced in January 2024, Wahab reiterated that the ban would start to be enforced on July 1.

The commissioner for environment and water resources explained that the policy’s stakeholders had plenty of time to adjust during this time.

He stated in a separate post on Monday that “this is about environmental responsibility.” We have followed best practices from around the world for a while. What is unacceptable elsewhere cannot be accepted in Lagos. We must invest in our future and pursue good deeds.

“We’re not here to win any points,” the statement read. The purpose of our presence is to accomplish the work. We will insist on accountability and responsibility, just like we did with the Styrofoam ban’s successful enforcement. If everyone plays their part, we could have a cleaner, healthier Lagos.

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has already taken action in response to this enforcement.

The agency seized $5 million worth of seized styrofoam packs in Epe and other locations throughout the state in a collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The federal government made a ban on single-use plastics throughout all ministries, divisions, and agencies in June 2024.

Iziaq Salako, the minister of state for environment, told journalists after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council that the 2020 National Policy on Plastic Waste Management (NPWM) wants to have some plastic categories banned from the country by January 2025.

Selena Gomez ‘hopeful’ Nicola Peltz and the Beckhams can mend their bitter feud

Singer Selena Gomez has reportedly stepped in amid her pal Nicola Peltz and her feud with her husband Brooklyn Beckham’s famous family

It was recently reported that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were keen to develop a ‘US Fab Four’ with Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham, but they’re not the only A-Listers on hand to support the pair.

Brooklyn and Nicola have taken over headlines recently amid a feud with his parents David and Victoria Beckham – and it’s now been reported that Selena Gomez has been standing by Nicola’s side.

The former Disney Channel star announced her engagement with Benny Blanco earlier this year, and sources claim Selena’s using her wedding planning to keep her friend Nicola distracted from the drama.

“Selena is always there for her friends if, and when they need anything,” an insider told DailyMail.com. “She has been messaging Nicola and trying to keep her mind off the drama.”

The source continued by saying that Selena “loves getting Nicola’s advice” on her upcoming nuptials. A second source told the publication that Selena was “hopeful” that the family can heal their rift.

The duo have been close friends since 2022, after meeting at the Academy Museum Gala. The besties became so close that they even got matching “angel” tattoos.

Sources claimed to The Mirror that Nicola and Brooklyn were “devastated” not to see his parents on a recent trip to London.

“Nicola encourages Brooklyn to see his family and is usually the reason Brooklyn does see his family. They are both devastated,” a source said, “They cannot believe that Victoria & David refused to see them privately after they travelled all the way to London specifically to try to repair the relationship.

“As parents, it’s shocking that Victoria & David are behaving this way… instead of privately discussing the issue. Victoria and David (appear to) have no interest in finding a solution that works for everyone.”

It doesn’t look like the family feud is over just yet, with David and eldest son Brooklyn failing to meet last week, despite both being in London. Brooklyn and Nicola also swerved David’s huge 50th birthday bash in London a couple of weeks ago, despite having flown over to the UK to reportedly celebrate with the England star in private. Brooklyn didn’t publicly acknowledge his father David or mother Victoria’s birthdays last month.

Earlier this year it was reported that brothers Brooklyn and Romeo were in a feud – believed to be centred around Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull. It had been suggested that Brooklyn was once romantically linked to Kim, however Hello magazine recently reported that, amid commentary on social media, Cruz wrote in a now-deleted comment that the pair “never dated”.

TMZ previously reported that sources said the issue was over Brooklyn and his wife Nicola questioning whether Kim has “the right intentions” for dating Romeo.

Ikeja, Lagos Island, Lekki Top Crime Hotspots In Lagos – Attorney-General

According to information from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS), Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki rank among the state’s top three crime hotspots.

At a ministerial press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN) made the disclosure.

According to Pedro, “Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki were the top three crime locations in Lagos State between January 2024 and May 2025,” according to LCIS statistics.

He noted that the data highlighted growing concerns about the state’s key urban centers and the concentration of criminal activity.

The Attorney-General revealed that the LCIS had 74, 962 cases and inmates across Lagos between 2018 and May 2025.

He complained about the strain being placed on the state’s correctional facilities, who disclosed that they are currently operating at a rate of 106% above their intended capacity.

He claimed that the total inmate population in May 2025 was 9 096 and that this figure “far exceeds the built capacity of the infrastructure.”

Pedro explained that the LCIS was conceived as a transformative initiative to streamline the criminal justice system and promote transparency.

It stores all criminal cases that are currently being heard in magistrates and high courts, including those that are awaiting bail or custody. Biometric data, personal data, and offence records are also included, he added.

Surging Data

Over 10,000 suspects and cases were processed through the system, with 64% of convictions secured by plea bargains, according to the data, between January 2024 and May 2025 alone.

Further, the data revealed that many suspects came from Ogun and Oyo States rather than other parts of Nigeria.

During the review period, the Directorate of Citizen Rights received 6,601 petitions related to social disorder.

443 of those cases were successfully resolved, 882 of which are still unsolved, and 285 of which were referred to other important government agencies.

Pedro also cited the Ministry’s financial support for victims.

He claimed that “on behalf of petitioners, a total of $7.3 million was recovered, with $3.3 million being awarded through court decisions.”

Sexual and Domestic Violence

The Attorney-General made the disclosure that 213 child neglect cases, as well as 272 child physical abuse cases, and 147 child sexual abuse cases, were handled.

Additionally, through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development’s collaboration, 57 children have been rescued from abusive environments and placed in government and private shelters.

The Ministry has established a Public Advisory Center to provide free legal counsel and information to Lagos residents who need help navigating government services as part of ongoing reforms in the justice system.
