Kim Jong Un watches missile test-firing from North Korea’s first destroyer

Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has stated that he has observed the missile tests conducted by a recently launched destroyer, the first of its kind, and that efforts to strengthen his navy’s nuclear attack capabilities have been accelerated.

The 5, 000-tonne destroyer, which North Korea described as having the most powerful weapons systems ever built for a navy vessel, was unveiled last week. Kim described the ship’s construction as “a breakthrough” in modernizing North Korea’s naval forces during the ceremony held on Friday at the western port of Nampo.

Kim watched the tests of the destroyer’s supersonic and strategic cruise missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, automatic weapons, and electronic jamming guns earlier this week, according to the official Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday.

Kim praised the ship’s powerful strike weapons and conventional defenses, according to the report, and assigned tasks to speed up his navy’s nuclear arsenal.

Kim stated that the destroyer would be stationed early in the year during the ship’s opening ceremony.

He predicted that his next significant step would be to strengthen his navy by purchasing a nuclear-powered submarine.

Somalia bans entry of Taiwan citizens in bid to please China: Taipei

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan claimed that China had put pressure on the East African nation to implement the measures, and that now the ban applies to all Taiwanese passport holders.

The self-ruled island’s government, claimed by China, claimed that Somalia’s civil aviation authority had last week made a statement about the new policy that went into effect on Wednesday night.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for the Somali government to revoke the notice, stating that it had been strongly protested by the country’s government’s policy to restrict Taiwanese nationals’ ability to travel freely and safely.

The ministry also cited Somalia’s reference to UN Resolution 2758, which in 1971 urged member states to appoint Beijing as the “only lawful representatives of China” as its “only legitimate representatives.”

The “misinterpretation” of the UN resolution by Somalia was “firmly rejected and condemned,” the UN resolution’s author asserting that Mogadishu had used it to “create the false impression that Taiwan was a part of the People’s Republic of China.”

The move comes as Taiwan’s ties with Somaliland, a breakaway nation that declared its independence from Somalia in 1991 but is still unrecognised by the majority of the world, are deepening.

In Mogadishu, there is resentment over the two self-governing territories’ de facto embassies opening in their respective capitals in 2020.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the decision was a legitimate step to advance Somalia’s interests and demonstrated that “Sofia firmly adheres to the one China principle.” Beijing “highly applauds” the decision, he added, and pledges to support Mogadishu’s claim to Somaliland.

He added that China opposes “any kind of official exchange” between Somaliland and Taiwan.

limited recognition

Taiwan, which is known as the Republic of China, lost its UN seat to China in 1971, the year before it was expelled from the World Health Organization.

While only 11 nations and the Vatican formally recognize Taiwan as a state, many nations, including the United States, maintain close, unofficial ties.

Taiwan is considered to be part of China’s territory, and it is not a foregone conclusion to use force to conquer it.

The travel ban in Somalia is unlikely to have a significant impact, according to Taiwan’s state news agency Focus Taiwan, pointing out that Taiwanese citizens only rarely travel there.

Why the away goals rule no longer counts in Europe

In June 2021, Uefa competitions removed away goals.

The Uefa Club Competitions Committee and the Uefa Women’s Football Committee both made recommendations, which led to the rule change.

knockout ties in Europe that end with penalties and extra time on both legs.

Aleksander Ceferin, the president of Uefa, questioned the rule’s fairness and said it discouraged home teams from attacking, especially in the first legs.

Since its introduction in 1965, the away goals rule has been a fundamental component of Uefa competitions, according to Ceferin.

The impact of the rule now contradicts its original intent because it now discourages home teams from attacking, especially in first legs, because they fear conceding a goal that would give their foes a significant advantage. The unfairness of forcing the home team to score twice when the away team does so is also criticized, especially in extra time.

Home wins decreased from 61% – in the mid-1970s – to 47% in the 2020-21 season, according to Uefa.

The average home goals per game dropped from 2.01 to 1.58, respectively.

When two or more teams are tied for first place in the league phase matches, one of the factors is the absence of goals.

Some of the most dramatic away goals in the Champions League are shown below:

  • Barcelona (agg: 1-1) – 2009 – Iniesta’s stunning final-gasp triumph at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona (agg: 1-1).
  • Tottenham (4-4) 2019 – Man City’s stoppage time VAR heartbreak

Football too expensive for working class fans – MP

An independent regulator should have a role in setting football ticket prices because top-flight matches are often too expensive for working class supporters to attend, an MP has claimed.

Labour’s Ian Byrne, who represents Liverpool West Derby, told fellow MPs: “The reality is that prices are far too high already, especially for younger fans”.

Referring to Liverpool sealing their 20th top-flight title on Sunday, Byrne said: “I witnessed thousands of working class supporters, young working class supporters, priced out of Anfield, with some tickets going for over £1, 000”.

Byrne, who was speaking during a House of Commons debate of the second reading of the Football Governance Bill, added: “We need to tackle the issue of the pricing out of working class supporters”.

Byrne told MPs he was concerned that some top-flight clubs were reducing the number of season tickets available.

An FSA spokesman said this was a covert way for clubs to charge premium prices for the biggest games.

Under the bill, an Independent Football Regulator (IFR) would be created to oversee clubs in the top five tiers of men’s football, ensure their financial sustainability, protect club heritage, and facilitate better fan engagements.

Byrne urged Culture Media and Sport Secretary Lisa Nandy to consider two amendments.

Firstly, he said he wanted the IFR to be involved in ticket pricing decisions, and to provide updates in periodic “State of Football” reports.

The aim would be to ensure fans have genuine input into their club’s ticketing policy through structured engagement.

Secondly, Byrne said the IFR should undertake a thorough review of concessionary ticket prices across the game to ensure that loyal fans of all ages are not priced out of their sport. Regular progress reports should again be provided, he said.

“We cannot allow the greed of some owners with no idea of how important]the] working class game is to the very communities that it should always serve”.

Liverpool FC said it had frozen prices for the past eight out of 10 years.

The cheapest Kop match ticket is still £39 while the most expensive remains at £45, “exactly the same as they were almost 15 years ago”, the club said.

Donald Trump’s health mystery from ‘forged’ medical report to weight loss warning

The Mirror examines Donald Trump’s health as he enters his 100th day as president and the enigmatic claims made by one of his former long-term doctors.

President Donald Trump has been in office for 100 days, and he celebrated with a rally in Michigan where he said, “You haven’t seen anything yet.” He claimed his term in office was the “most successful first 100 days of any administration in the history of our country”.

A report into Trump’s overall physical and mental health, which declared the 78-year-old “fully fit to carry out the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” was released just weeks before his first 100 days as president on April 11.

The report claimed that President Trump’s “robust” overall health had seen him lose 20 pounds since his last term in office in 2020 and that he had also lowered his cholesterol levels with the assistance of medication. The President’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, wrote in the report that the fact he keeps up an “active lifestyle” – including his “frequent victories in golf events” – will “contribute significantly” to Trump’s good continued good health.

Not for the first time has President Trump had positive health reports. Dr. Harold N. Bornstein – a previous long-time doctor of Trump – put his name to a letter recording Trump’s “astonishingly excellent” health back in 2015 but later made shocking claims about its contents.

The 78-year-old POTUS has long been criticized for keeping his health a secret. He was already 70 when he first took office. President Trump had promised to publish the results of a recent examination in August 2024 despite not making any significant health information since his second White House victory.

This is despite such information being commonly disclosed among presidents. It’s only natural for the American people to be assured that their leader has the physical and mental stamina to handle the demands of such a significant job, even though there is no law requiring a president’s health to have any restrictions on their ability to share anything.

Interestingly, despite his own notable lack of transparency, President Trump would regularly take aim at the physical fitness of presidential rival President Joe Biden, who he mockingly referred to as “Sleepy Joe”.

In 2015, ahead of his first presidential bid, President Trump produced a glowing doctor’s letter that described his health as “astonishingly excellent”, praising the businessman turned politician’s “extraordinary” strength and stamina.

Dr. Harold N. Bornstein wrote, “To Whom My Concern: I have been Mr. Donald J. Trump’s personal physician since 1980. Dr. Jacob Bornstein, my father, was his previous physician. Over the past 39 years, I am pleased to report that Mr Trump has had no significant medical problems.

“Mr Trump has had a recent complete medical examination that showed only positive results. Actually, his blood pressure, 110/65, and laboratory test results were astonishingly excellent. Over the past twelve months, he has lost at least fifteen pounds, Mr Trump takes 81 mg of aspirin daily and a low dose of a statin. His PSA test score is 0.15 (very low). His physical strength and stamina are extraordinary.”

The letter continued, “Mr. Trump has never had a hip, knee, or shoulder replacement, nor any other orthopaedic surgery,” adding that he would be “the healthiest person ever elected to the presidency.”

“His only surgery was an appendectomy at age ten. His cardiovascular health is excellent. He has never used tobacco or alcohol before. If elected, Mr Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”.

However, things suddenly changed in 2018 when Dr. Bornstein claimed that President Trump had dictated the letter’s format and that he had only five minutes to write it. Bornstein claimed to CNN, “He dictated that entire letter. I didn’t write that letter. As I went along, I just made up.”

The letter-writing process was described as an example of “black humor,” according to Manhattan-based Dr. Bornstein, who compared the series of events to “the movie Fargo” in that it “takes the truth and moves it in a different direction.” The White House did not publicly respond to Dr Bornstein’s claims that the wording had been dictated by President Trump.

Dr. Bornstein claimed in a separate interview with NBC News that Keith Schiller, President Trump’s bodyguard, and two other men had “raid” his office and seized POTUS’s medical records in February 2017. Dr Bornstein, who had been Trump’s personal physician for more than 35 years, recalled how the incident had made him feel “raped, frightened and sad”, stating: “They must have been here for 25 or 30 minutes, it created a lot of chaos”.

The aides’ only copy of President Trump’s medical records, along with them, were lab reports, according to Dr. Bornstein. Sarah Sanders, a press secretary for the White House, later claimed that this incident wasn’t a raid and that the White House Medical Unit had a right to obtain a president’s medical records.

In 2018, Dr. Ronny Jackson, who conducted President Trump’s first White House physical exam, declared he was in “excellent health”, remarking that there was “no indication” of “any cognitive issues”. Dr. Jackson told members of the press that “it’s called genetics. It’s very, very good health.” Some people simply have fantastic genes. I told the president if he had a healthier diet over the last 20 years he might live to be 200″.

The doctor did, however, claim that he would collaborate with President Trump to develop a new exercise regimen and that his diet would be improved. POTUS is known for enjoying treats over a balanced diet, with McDonald’s and ice cream being his particular favourites.

Now, an expert has expressed some concerns over President Trump’s health, remarking on his substantially leaner physique. Earlier this month, Trump looked notably slimmer in photographs snapped as he walked towards Marine One. It’s been suggested that Trump has lost an impressive 30lbs (2st) since 2022 by making healthier changes to his diet.

However, Treated.com’s clinical lead, Dr Daniel Atkinson, has warned that significant weight loss could indicate a serious health issue. Dr Atkinson told the Irish Star: “For a hypothetical person, who has taken on the office of President of the United States for a second term, at the age of 80, there might be several factors that could affect their weight.

“An almost 80-year-old with a busy schedule might be more susceptible to certain conditions that can cause weight loss. Diabetes, for instance, can trigger weight fluctuations when the condition is uncontrolled. Blood sugar can become more difficult to regulate as we age, and insulin resistance can develop with age.”

This does not suggest that President Trump has diabetes, and no public comment has been issued by the White House regarding his weight loss in recent months.
